I just got done posting up all the photos I took (which you can see by clicking here
), and I was just reminded of what an Epic performance it was. It's funny that everybody and their Mom asked me about it, but not a lot of people I know went. Me, Jeff from the Bitters
, Catasco, Louie The Letch, Jack from Pigasus
& Pamela, Brent from the Underground, and that was pretty much it. The rest of the audience was made up of trendy fucks and really old Hipsters, like, people who were the Hip Young ones back in 1992. LOL It was like the Downtown Dooshbag Scene were just there because it was an event, something they heard was Cool but knew nothing about. Disgusting, but oh well. I had a blast, which is all that matters. So yeah, check the Pictures
out, and if you like the new layout, or even if you don't, you have Ashley to thank for that, because I totally stole the idea from her! LOL Ashley is a very close Friend of mine and she has her own website for her amazing photography work (www.ashleychance.com
) and I'm on there all the time checking out what she's up to and what she's shot lately. She's got 'The Eye', something that all great Photographers have, and I'm very jealous of her Talent and I try to steal from her every chance I get... hahaha Anyways, check her website out and if you need any sort of photographic work done, hit her up about it and she'll shoot it for you on the cheap. Real Photography is an Art, and she is truly an Artist. Support man, Support. :-)I was gonna do a Show Review of the Shellac gig, but I didn't do anything to remember it afterwords, like write it down or tape some notes like I usually do, because I had to skedaddle to Cali immediately afterwords, and after everything that went down there, the Shellac gig seems like eons ago and almost inconsequential. Almost I said. :-) Yeah, California was a trip. I spent my time just wandering around my old Home town and just... reminiscing. Running into Old and Dear Friends, remembering how things once were and then seeing how things are is quite humbling, to say the least. I hadn't been back to Whittier proper in 20 years... Wowsers. I can't let that happen again. I had a great time while I was there. I ate and went everywhere I could. Saw a couple of cool bands (The Backdoor Preachers and Civil Disgust). Missed out on seeing Face To Face and Walk Proud @ Alex's in Long Beach because I was having too much fun in Whittier and couldn't tear myself away from it. Sorry to mis Hermanos in Walk Proud. Why is it every time I'm out of state fucking Face To Face is playing? LOL gawd my trip was such fun. I think I'm gonna post some Pictures on here of it all... maybe.Hey! Guess what? I have a gig I'm playing this Sat.! Woo Hoo!
2 weekends in a row. This could set a bad precedent... heh heh. Aluminum Falcon
will be ripping it up with some other cool as fuck Punk bands of all shapes and sizes and you should start your Halloween festivities off that night by grubbing on some tacos and watching us play. I'll be the guy behind the sexy orange drum man sized drum set - what I'll be wearing this year is up to you to come out and see. I'll tell you one thing though - it ain't gonna be no Star Wars costume! LOL Ya know, now that I think about it, The Captain never gave me those Pictures he took of us last year playing in costume @ the LVCS. Booooooooooooooo to him.
It's Halloween, which means that it's also the end of October. I got waaaayyyy too much going on to even focus on writing down what's been going on in my head as of late. I'm on such a high right now that I don't ever wanna come down, and if things work out, maybe I won't have to. Gifts from the North are in transit and I eagerly await their delivery. Long may the Crow fly. Forever may the Wolf howl. See you on Saturday. Wear a costume.
Shellac last night was AMAZING!! You missed out big time if you weren't there. :-)
See ya Saturday! <3
Youth. Gone. MAD.
The panic text messages went out early on Saturday night. The Brother of the Promoter was letting everybody know that the Promoter took all the money made from the appropriately named Las Vegas Shakedown and left town with it, heading off to hide in Los Angeles with his tail firmly ensconced between his cowardly legs. The Brother of the Promoter was spreading the word that nobody was getting paid - not the Bands, not the Stage Hands, not Security, not the Staff - Nobody - and that he was officially washing his hands of all responsibility associated with the shady Shakedown festival. Like rats fleeing a sinking ship, it was every man for themselves. Bands played for free, and most of the workers simply walked off the job, and I don't blame them. I would too if I knew I wasn't going to get paid! LOL And with that chickenshit move, the Shakedown came to an anti-climactic end, and I say good riddance to bad rubbish. The lineup was terrible, but that was because quite a few bands didn't even wanna work with the Promoter, because of past experiences and stuff they had heard about him. The promotion for the festival was terrible too. Nobody knew anything about what was going on, and the gigs all definitely had a Poseur slant to them. All I saw when I was down there on Fremont Street was Rockasilly faggots walking around with their Chubby Page girlfriends. If it wasn't for Zeke, Custom Made Scare, Flexx Bronco and a few others, there wasn't a Punk band to be found anywhere. Phooey. I hope that the words 'Las Vegas' and 'Shakedown' never come together ever again, and if they do, I hope people aren't stupid enough to support it, and that bands aren't stupid enough to play it.
And what was I doing down on Fremont Street on Saturday? Why, attending the Occupy Las Vegas protest, of course! LOL I got there @ 4 pm, right when it was supposed to start, and there was nobody there. I checked the website and it said to meet in front of the big pint glass at Hennessey's, and so I grabbed a pint, ordered some grub and took a seat at a table outside of Hennessey's to watch the festivities. There were NHP bikes all lined up along the streets, film crews from Local TV stations were standing around looking stupid, and undercover police officers walked around talking into their lapels, but there was no crowd whatsoever. A few stragglers showed up, some idiot kids were walking around with anonymous Vendetta type face masks on the top of their heads, leaving their faces fully exposed, and a VW van kept driving around the area, with a poster board full of Anti-Big Business slogans and rhetoric scrawled on it, prominently affixed to the side of the van for all the world to see.
Yes, the driver of this van was wearing a Tye-dyed Grateful Dead shirt. :-)
After 15 minutes the Cops started clearing out, the TV crews started breaking their gear down, and the 4 or 5 people who bothered to show up for the Protest just kind of congregated around looking foolish while the Tourists just milled about doing whatever it is they do. I paid up my tab and took a stroll up and down Neonopolis, thinking that maybe I had missed out on it, or maybe the gathering had moved, but I found nothing. I heard someone speaking on a megaphone, but when I followed it to the source all I found was a guy selling and demonstrating toys. After about an hour I gave up and called it a day. As I was crossing the street to leave I turned around and snapped a picture of the Protestors, just for documentations sake. I don't know why nobody showed up, but after this piss poor example of how everybody talks a good game on Facebook, but nobody ever follows through with what they say, I think I'm officially done with all this silliness. This whole Occupy thing might be working in other places but here in Vegas, it's a fucking joke.
The striped pants are a nice touch, don't ya think? ;-)
Jason Campbell... broken collar bone... fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck... Is this the end of our Season? Gawd I hope not. With the Sharks craptacular start this year, Football is the only thing I got going to cheer for! LOL Bring in Pryor! hahaha
I started the 2 a day practice sessions early last week. I'm building up my endurance as well as familiarizing myself with the material... the new material that is. Songs like Ode To Darby and Oki Dog I know like the back of my hand from playing them so much back in the day. If Ena shows up it will be an almost full classic line up reunion, but if not, it's still gonna be an amazingly fun time. Youth Gone Mad @ Rookie's in La Mirada (of course) this Sat. It's a benefit for the Wolf, one of the guys responsible for turning me onto the whole Punk Rock thing when I was a wee lad, and there's no way in Hell that I would miss out on this. No way. Lots of old Friends will show up, and lots of Pictures will be taken. I can't wait. :-)
Everything is updated. New stuff added, old stuff being worked on. Shellac on Weds. @ the Beauty Bar is gonna be AMAZING! See ya there!
I only go to these things to laugh at the naive Idealists who think that these attention grabbing media whore ruses are actually going to change things in the U.S., and who complain about the big bad Corporations to any TV camera within view while they're sipping on their $5 double latte cappuccino from Starbucks which is, GASP! a Corporation! hahaha Fucking Hypocrites. It's also funny to hear people heckle the Protestors, telling them to get a job and shit. hee hee hee For those 2 reasons alone you should all be there, or if it's something you believe in and if it's something you constantly barrage your Friends on Facebook with, then you should definitely be there. Put up or shut up. Get a sitter. Leave work early. Cancel band practice. Act like you give a fuck, or just shut up about it, because now is the time to show what you're made of. Talk Minus Action Equals Zero. You want change you gotta work for it. It's gonna take a little bit more than just sharing something on Facebook ya know... heh heh heh See ya there! :-)
Viva la Revolution!! hahaha
2 hours. 2 fucking hours I sat inside of Yayo Taco, waiting for something, anything to happen. I was starting to get irritated at last nights Coke Bust gig @ Yayo Taco.
The reason why me, and all 5 bands who were scheduled to play, were sitting around looking stupid was because there was no P.A. available. Yeah, you read that right. Whatever dumbass promoter was responsible for the gig apparently thought that Yayo Taco was a venue and not a taco shop and thought that a P.A. would be provided. Just. Fucking. Great. So an hour after the gig was supposed to start all that the bands could come up with was 2 little ass P.A. speakers - no cables, no microphones, not even 2 stands to hold these little ass speakers up - it was pathetic, and once we heard the bands bitching about playing time and who was playing in what slot I called it a night and gave up on the gig. Sorry Coke Bust. I really wanted to see you play but apparently it wasn't meant to be. Oh well. I also really wanted to see all my Friends on Facebook who said they were gonna be there, but, in a perfect example of it, I guess it's easier to do things on Facebook than in real life, like how people keep posting all that Occupy Wall Street shit, or Occupy Vegas or whatever, and then they don't even bother to show up. Hypocrites. Phooey.
I believe it was Gandhi who said First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win in regards to peaceful protesting, and all I can say to that is that you couldn't be more wrong if you tried! LOL The Govt. is cracking down tomorrow on all that shit, with the big show down coming at sunrise with the Occupy Wall Street crew. Fuhrer Bloomberg and his Gestapo stormtroopers are taking back that park, and there ain't a thing that peaceful protesting is gonna do to stop it. Talk - Action = Zero. As the MC5 said, It's time to kick out the Jams Motherfucker!! And before you think to yourself that if you were there, you'd be right there on the front line fighting it out against the Police, just stop it, because you wouldn't. You're a Hypocrite arm chair rebel who watches what's going on from safe behind your computer screen. Just quit it. I wouldn't be there because it's not a cause that I believe in fighting for. Sorry. I support the Fight but won't fight for it, if that makes any sense. Politics. Phooey.
Zeke / Custom Made Scare @ the LVCS tomorrow - Who's going besides me??? :-)
Equinox movie... NICE!!
Yeah, the Las Vegas Shakedown is a joke. They should just call it what it is, and that's Viva Las Vegas
without the car show. It's also pretty stupid that a lot of the bands are playing at other venues around town for Free, so why would you pay the ridiculously high price to see the headliner? In the case of Zeke
it's worth it, but the rest of the gigs? Fuck off. And I hate that there aren't enough Local bands on the fucking bills. How the Fremonts
got that opening slot at the Zeke
gig is beyond me (wink wink), but since it starts at 4 o'clock, I doubt that anyone of the 21 and over crowd that Zeke
fans are made of will be there. I know I won't. Enjoy playing to that empty room guys. And Flexx Bronco
again? Really? Weren't they just here like 2 months ago? LOL They're an OK band but come on. Why couldn't The People's Whiskey
play that gig in that spot? :-) Might guarantee that some Locals get there early, but that makes too much sense, so I'll just stop now. And I guess they didn't need to advertise either. Oh well. Deadbolt
is playing the Opening Night kickoff tonight, and hardly anybody knows about it. Good job there Ralph. Go cater to that Las Vegas Weekly crowd some more, and lemme know how that works out, OK? Thanx!Everything is updated. You know the drill. See you somewhere soon. :-)
Just a moment please to pause on the passing of someone to whom the word Legend is just not enough to encompass all that the Man was; Genius, Maverick, Innovator, Icon, Al Davis was all that and more. The things he did for Football were beyond Incredible. He changed the Game as we know it. His passion for all things Anti-Authority and fighting back against your oppressors was something that I definitely took to heart as a wee lad. ;-) And plus the team's logo was a Pirate. How the Fuck could you not love that??? My Dad was a Rams fan, My Uncle was a Steelers fan, but I was a Raiders fan. Always have been, always will be. Just for that one aspect of my Life I feel like I owe Al Davis a huge Thank You, because the Raiders have brought me a lot of Happiness, that's for sure. His passing hit me hard, but I choose to celebrate the Life, I do not mourn the Loss. Godspeed Al Davis. You Sir, will definitely be missed.
Good game Sunday. Even with, again, the Refs blatant biased penalty calling against the Raiders, they still held on to win. The Chargers got lucky that Tebow wasn't brought in earlier in the game, and watching the Jets collapse is one of the sweetest things about this Season. :-) I Love Football!! And I Love Hockey too!! It's Hockey Season bitches!! GO SHARKS!! FUCK THE DUCKS!! :-)
You know what else was sweet? That gig on Friday with the Tinglerz
, The People's Whiskey
, The Civilians
and the Seriouslys
at the Motor City Cafe
. Lots of friendly faces and cool people and the bands were great! Well, except for the Civilians
... heh heh heh KIDDING!!! Don't have a heart attack you punters! For some reason those guys seem to be worried about what I think about them, but I'll get into that when I do the Show Review of the gig. ;-) LOL Yeah, Sorry, but I have to. I got too much to say about the night and the bands not to, ya know? The highlight of the night for me was just standing there in amazement while The People's Whiskey
just fucking killed it. Those guys are soooooooooo fucking good. They sounded better than I have ever heard them play before and the drummer was just amazing to watch. That Dave Grohl looking motherfucker has got some skills! What a fucking gig. And the cake... oh and the cake... Superb!!! <3 hahaha I had a great time. Happy Birthday again to Christy, the coolest bartender / roller derby girl in the whole damn City! :-) Cheers!
Ya know, I never made it to Blondie or O.M.D. on Saturday, on account of a Hurricane warning I received from someone, so I stayed as far away from Mandalay Bay as humanly possible! LOL My Saturday night was fun though. I'm not a wine drinker though... phooey!
Everything's updated. New photos of Babilos, Tinglerz and Blues Storm added to the site... hahaha Blues Storm... don't ask. The Shakedown is happening this weekend and except for that Zeke / Custom Made Scare gig happening Friday at the LVCS, I could give a shit less. Seems more like a Rockabilly fest to me, which is why I'll be staying as far away as possible from that fucking farce. That Coke Bust gig is happening on Wednesday, with a bunch of bands I know nothing about, so get off your lazy ass and come down to Yayo Taco to see some kick ass in your face Punk Rock. It should be fun! See ya there! :-)
I heard it was cancelled because of the rain, and now I hear that it's still happening, so here it is - better late than never. Click on the link to see what all the fuss is all about! Occupy Las VegasApparently, the Vegas version of this little farcical play is cooperating with all Local Authority figures and those in Power to ensure that no one gets hurt or arrested, which should be the Goal of any well organized protest, right? Oh, and I think it's Kid friendly as well, so bring the young-ins out to see what the big deal is all about. It's their Future you're trying to save and if you're lucky, you'll even be on TV, which is the real goal this Occupy Las Vegas thing seems to be about but whatever. I'll be there, and so should you.Protest and Punk Rock - Occupy Las Vegas and the Misfits - it's gonna be a good night to be on the Strip. Too bad there's no real Punk Rock or Protest to speak of, but hey, it's all baby steps in the right direction, right? Right! heh heh heh
So I'm sitting at a good taco shop for lunch - not those poisonous, over-priced taco shops that Turbo eats at - and I'm reading Vegas Rocks!
magazine while eating my taco plate, and I just burst into spontaneous laughter while doing so. This magazine is sooooooooo fucking shitty! I was reading her Editorial about that stoooopid "Awards Show" she just did, with her crying about how 'it's not fixed
' and that 'every vote was counted
' and 'the best bands won
' and all that shit. Really? Do I have to be the one to say it? We all know it, right? That by 'vote', she means 'dollar', because that's what that whole things is about. Money. Paying for shit. You can buy your award, just like you have to buy your way into the category you wish to be nominated in, and just like you have to buy your table at the Awards ceremony, and just like you have to buy ad space just to even be considered for the stupid thing. For her to act and say differently just shows what an air headed idiot she really is. Fucking 80's Sunset Strip trash. I forgot to mention that I saw her when I was @ the Bikini Bar
for that Tinglerz
/ Six Shooters To The Sky
gig. She was there with her "personal assistant" and just sucked the energy out of the room. Thankfully she left just as quickly as she came, and as soon as she did things went back to normal. It's like when you're talking shit about someone, and then they walk in the room. It's a bit awkward until they leave, then it goes back to normal, ya know? LOL Sally Steele (her real name I'm sure) has a story in the back of her magazine about the night she hung out with Tommy Lee back in the day. Yeah, you and 2,843 other blond haired ho-bags Honey. ;-) It was while I was sitting there enjoying said taco plate when I got a message from a Friend with the tantalizing opening line of
"hahahaha guess who doesn't own the cheyenne saloon!!!! Guess who's getting fired from there this week
"... hahaha Needless to say, I wiped the grease and salsa and cheese off of my hands and responded immediately, wanting to know just what the Hell this was all about. And after he gave me all the details about it, I think I shit my pants just a little bit from laughing so hard. That's called Karma motherfucker! LOL Why is it every where I go I gotta hear ANOTHER story about this Mark Hornsby dude, always in the Negative or to Ridicule him, from someone who used to work with him at the many places around town he was fired from. Oh well. Guess he can just add the Cheyenne Saloon to his prestigious list of failures - that is, if he doesn't come through on what he said he was going to do, and we all know he's a man that sticks to his word when it comes to that, right? hahahahaha Fucking idiot. 48 hours - Good Luck! You'll need it! And oh yeah - the guy who actually owns the Cheyenne Saloon wants to make sure everyone knows that Mark Hornsby does NOT
own the Cheyenne Saloon, no matter what he tells you, and no matter what it says on the Facebook page... heh heh
Here's another video I just got all the info for. It's from Rule Of Thumb
, a really good Punk Rock / Hardcore / whatever trio from right here in Vegas. I recorded this a looong time ago and just forgot to upload it until recently. Sorry guys! This is a cool song called As One
, and it's from their upcoming release that they're working on as we speak. It's an onethirtyeight.org
Exclusive! hahahaha Now I sound like Steven from Punks In Vegas
! LOL But at least there's no acoustic guitars in this video! ;-)
And this is another video I uploaded recently. It's the Tinglerz
playing @ Vamp'd
like a month ago, doing a song that was called Fever
when I was in the band playing it! LOL The Tinglerz
are hugely under appreciated here in town and I have no idea why that is, but I love this song regardless. :-)
So yeah, got lots of stuff planned for this weekend, which starts tomorrow at that Misfits
gig @ the Hard Rock Cafe. Ghey, but at least Guilty By Association
is opening it. Tomorrow night it's all about Christy's Birthday Party @ the Motor City Cafe
with The People's Whiskey
/ The Seriouslys
and the Grand Debut of The Civilians
, a new band made up of a bunch of old guys playing music they love. Hopefully. It's gonna be a great night of some kick ass Local music and a Celebration Bitches! for one of the raddest chicks I know. Happy Birthday Christy! XOXO
Yes, there will be CAKE!! <3
Saturday - forget about it!! Blondie @ Mandalay bay Pool, and then after that I'm running to the House of Boooooo's to catch O.M.D.! It's gonna be 80's flashback night! hahahaha It is going to be soooooooo much FUN!! Now if only the girls I am interested in weren't wasting their time on junky dooshbag scenester fucks, then I could share this awesomeness with someone! Oh well. Just call me Han Solo! Never take sand to the beach, right? Maybe I'll get lucky. Stranger things have happened. ;-)
Everything is updated. New Stuff added, yada yada yada. The Raiders WILL beat the Texans this Sunday - I'm gonna stick my neck out right now and say that! hahahaha And Thank Gawd Hockey Season is here! GO SHARKS!! FUCK THE DUCKS! hahahaha And so it begins! hahahahhaha Have a great weekend - I know I will. :-)
Did I ever post this?? I don't think so, but if I did, Sorry. It's a video I took of the Naked City Romeo
's performing Rock 'N Roll's For Kids
, off of their fantastic debut CD release. I recorded it @ Artifice a while ago. If you missed the Music Review
I did on it, you can click here
to check it out for yourself. It's at the bottom of the page. This video is a little dark, so too bad if you can't see everything too clear. It's Punk Rock. It's supposed to be a bit dark.
I watch this video all the time when I need a good laugh. The singer Bobbie is just the funniest guy to watch perform. This is Pentagram playing some song that I'm never going to know the Title of at the Cheyenne Saloon a while back. This was the gig that the infamous stickering 'Vandalism' incident went down at. No, I haven't heard anything back about that in case you were wondering. I do know what some of you are up to though... heh heh
Yeah, I'm just cleaning up and clearing out a bunch of shit that either slipped through the cracks or I just plain forgot about. Did you see all the Pictures
I posted of that Deadhand
/ Smooth Sailing
gig @ Yayo Taco a while back? Well, if you didn't, you can click here
or click on the photos to the right of these words here. Either or, I don't care. And check out the pix I took of Six Shooters To The Sky
@ the Bikini Bar. They came out pretty sweet. My Family is in town, so I'm doing that whole Touristy thing with them, and because of that I'll be at that stupid Misfits
gig @ the Hard Rock Cafe on Thursday... Boooooooooo. And yeah, I know - I'm a Hypocrite, but in my Defense, at least I admit it! LOL
See ya there! There's all sorts of stuff happening this weekend, so check out the Gig Calendar
page to see what's what. Me? I'm gonna be in 80's Heaven on Saturday - Blondie
and then O.M.D.
!!! Like, ohmygawd!! Ya know? Totally!! hahaha
You ever wanted to breathe in soooo much that you'd break your lungs? Break your heart? Break everything? Smashing the glass sky with your fist and dancing around naked and wet while the shards rained down upon you? You ever see the Birth of a Star? Yeah, it was that kind of weekend for me - how was yours? ;-)
I didn't make it to any of the gigs I said I was going to, because it took me a while to come back to the land of the living. Recovery takes longer when you're older. ;-) I'm not even gonna comment on the absurdity of the officiating in the Raiders / Patriots game. You know things are out of hand when even Brady himself said afterwords that he thought there was no reason to flag Seymour like they did. Whatever. No, what I'm going to do is grab some water, take some aspirin and go lay down again. Everything's updated... blah blah blah
