It's Tuesday morning, I'm catching up on emails that I'm like a few months behind in answering, and I'm checking out the video of the Queen concert that went down this past weekend in Russia somewhere. The band had Adam Lambert, some homo that's apparently only famous for being gay and being on American Idol I think, standing in for Freddie and the bands performance is just terrible. Everything is played too slow, the 2 founding members Brian and Roger who took place in this farce look terrible, and yeah, it just sucks. That dude Adam Lambert can sing, but he sounds more like Tim Finn from Split Enz than the fabulous Mr. Mercury. Ugh. Oh well. Sometimes it's just sad to see a band you adore look so out of place. The smell of Desperation is deep. 14:58 and counting... My last post included a new video from The Dirty Panties, and today I have a new video from Demon Lung to talk about! :-) I shared that Dirty Panties video on the onethirtyeight.org Facebook page, and was surprised that I got those 2 negative comments about it. Oh well. I dunno how people will react to this video after seeing it, but it should be interesting, because this video is twisted! ha ha ha It's from the just released album called Pareidolia by Demon Lung, and it's for a song called Lament Code. I have no idea what the song is about, but it sounds slow and heavy ala later day Corrosion Of Conformity or even Type O Negative, I dunno. The video for the song is just nightmarish, and a great job of using CGI effects and cool puppetry to create one amazing looking video that I'm almost sure was not too expensive to make, although it sure does look like it. Kudos on a job well done on this one Demon Lung. You've certainly set the bar very high for the next Local band who does a video, that's for sure. :-) Speaking of videos, the Gashers are going to premier their new video Panic, from their upcoming Squid Hat Records release called Law Is Not Order, next Tuesday @ 11 am on Facebook, and you can click here to go to the Events Page for it and get yourself in the loop. I'm told I won't be disappointed. I doubt that I shall be. ;-) Hey! Did you see the piece that Jarret Keene did on Battle Born in last weeks Seven magazine? Click here to read it if you haven't already. It's a pretty good piece on a hard working band that definitely deserves it. And like it says at the end of that write up, there is a little bit of a 4th of July shindig going down there on Weds., and you're all invited. BBQ, Beer, Bands, and they're gonna be filming a promo video too, so get your ass down there and have some fun and get drunk and blow stuff up. The view of the strip from there is pretty sweet, so you can watch those fireworks too if you're sober enough to remember to... heh heh heh hahaha OK, just one last thing from the emails before I go. Apparently, a few weeks ago the L.A. Times posted a fluff piece by some dooshbags about the 20 Greatest L.A. Punk Rock Albums of All Time (click here to read it for yourself), and their choices were more than a bit baffling, to say the least, and just as a point of reference, I jotted down their Top 20 list and then made one of my own, and here's what I came up with. Took me all of 10 minutes to do so. I think my choices are pretty good. Of course, I'm nothing but a Homophobic, Bitter Old Poseur, so take anything I say with a huge grain of salt, because what do I know, right? ;-) L.A. Times List- Black Flag - Damaged

| So yeah, if you ignore the fact that the L.A. Times list has bands from Orange County on their list, and a few compilations from bands that were comprised of singles and live tracks, and a couple that weren't even albums, then I guess it's a good list! LOL Honorable mentions go to Slayer - Reign In Blood, Red Kross - Born Innocent, 45 Grave - Sleep In Safety, Cryptic Slaughter - Convicted, Minutemen - Double Nickels On The Dime, Christian Death - Only Theater Of Pain and everything the Screamers never recorded. :-) I can't wait to do another list for the Top 20 L.A. Punk Rock Singles of All Time - now THAT would be fun!! :-)
Everything is updated - the Peter Murphy gig is happening at the LVCS and not the Beauty Bar as I falsely reported last Friday, all sorts of shit is getting added all the time, so keep coming back. And if I don't post anything tomorrow, I'll wish you all a Happy 4th of July now! Try not to blow any appendages off it at all possible! ;-)
I think I've been quiet about it enough. I've seen the postings and comments and whatnot on Facebook, and I've been kept mum about it all, biding my time and waiting for more facts to come in and trying not to get involved in all the early Bullshit and Drama that usually comes in when stuff gets ugly, but now? Fuck that line of thinking. The LVCS should be called on their bullshit and if you support that place or anything they do you should be called on it too, and I'll tell you why.
It started with the announcement of this upcoming Jello Biafra And The Guantanamo School Of Medicine / 45 Grave gig happening there. I was a bit surprised because I knew about the LVCS saying to Local bands and National booking Agents that 'The LVCS is no longer booking Punk Rock bands and is going in a different direction', which, apparently, is as a blues bar. Yeah, guess they never heard of Fremont Street Reggae And Blues, or the Sand Dollar Blues Lounge, both of which went under because the Blues scene here in Vegas consists of 100 or so people, but whatever. The LVCS turned their back on the Bands that helped establish the venue as a legit place to play, and the Scene and Music that made it so. Big whoop. Happens all the time, right? So why the sudden about face on what was a well defined stance that was taken? Well I'll tell ya. The whole reason that the gig is even happening there is because that douche bag from that shitty as fuck band The Dickless Bastards is telling the guy who took over Roxie's job, I think his name is Ass Face, that he could book the place, get the bands to play by the rules and whatnot, and do all the things that Roxie had been doing there before, but better. Talk about a major backstabbing!! And on top of it, for Reasons which I cannot begin to fathom, Roxie gave those unethical fucks a residency there playing every Monday night to a crowd of no one, or possibly to some unsuspecting drunks who wander in there from Fremont St. Funny right? Yeah, it is. Those losers couldn't draw flies to their gigs if they were covered in shit from head to toe. Tossers. So that idiot from The Dickless Bastards sets up the Jello Biafra And The Guantanamo School Of Medicine / 45 Grave gig, in cahoots with ol Ass Face at the LVCS, who, so I hear, is the one responsible for this little bit of libelous slander right here.
Amazing, isn't it? I think it pretty much speaks for itself, and Kudos to the Mapes for being labeled 'Too Cool and Disrespectful"... hahahaaha I agree with a few of the assessments on here, by the way. :-) The fact that he compiled a list is what get's me. Damn idiot. So yeah, to get back to the point, the Jello Biafra And The Guantanamo School Of Medicine gig is booked, and by some strange coincidence the 2 bands that the dooshbag is in are opening, and when it's posted on Facebook the shit hits the fan. People are just sniping away, with my comment about thinking that Jello Biafra didn't play Corporate places starting an interesting conversation. What? You didn't know that the LVCS is part of a Corporation? Oh yes it is. The LVCS is Owned and Operated by Hennessey's Inc., a company that was started by a Wall Street broker and which generates about 30 million dollars a year. It's a very Powerful Corporation. That's why it was funny to be getting that response from one of the Tools in The Dickless Bastards about 'don't let him know it is corporate', which, if meant seriously is amazingly stupied, and if meant as a joke, then it's just plain stupied. I don't think he was joking though. People were very opinionated about what was going on. Szandora bore the brunt of the e-battle on Facebook, unfortunately, because her loser 'band mates' just sat by quietly and let her do all the talking, but that factor, the whole Szandora meddling thing, which wasn't THAT big of a deal, got squashed quickly and Apologies were issued all around. Yaaaayy. But yet the gig is still going on. Booooooooooo. So for the cool factor of having your bands name on a flyer with Jello Biafra and 45 Grave, you're gonna fuck your friend over that's done all sorts of things for you by going and sucking the Corporate dick and supporting a venue that doesn't deserve it and that you shouldn't be playing at? Really? Is that fucked up or is it just me, because I'm thinking it's majorly fucked up.
I guess the real thing that gets me about all of this is the Ethics involved in it. You gotta know who your Friends are. I've softened a lot on my stance about the Double Down over the years. I still won't go there, but I got no problem playing there, if that makes any sense, but the LVCS? Fuck that place. I want nothing to do with it and if your Band plays there, then I want nothing to do with you either. If you play that place, then you're a piece of shit backstabbing motherfucker. You can justify it any way that you please; Ignorance, Apathy and Stupiedity are all acceptable excuses, but what it comes down to is a simple Right vs. Wrong thing in my book. Fuck The LVCS. Don't Play There. Don't Go There. What they've done to the Local Music Scene is a huge slap in the face, and if you can go there and support them and justify their existence and legitimacy as a venue to see gigs at, then you're just an ignorant turd. For those of you who know and love Roxie, it's a Personal thing. Fuck The LVCS. Don't Play There. Don't Go There. For everything that Roxie has done for that place, for them to try to fuck her over like they have been, and for everything that Roxie has done for YOUR bands and MY bands, it's ludicrous to even think about seeing shows there or playing there or spending any money there. Fuck that. Corporations like Hennessey's (which is the Owner of the LVCS) can only be hit where it hurts - the bottom line, which is all about dollars and cents. If you don't support the place, it goes away, and it will be nothing but a distant memory of a cool place we all used to play that went to absolute shit, much like the Sin City Saloon did, or Tramps, or The Boston. I can't wait until the LVCS is added to that list. I know that it's coming soon. Again, Fuck The LVCS. Don't Play There. Don't Go There. If you play that place, you ain't got a friend here. You're cut off at the knees. If you go to a gig there, I'll look at you with Disdain and Repugnance, just like I do to all of you that go to the Double Down. You gotta know who your Friends are, and back them up no matter what.
True story... I've been sitting here listening to the 45 Grave - Black Cross 7" on repeat now for like an hour... and it's great. I listen to this shit and I remember how good we had it in L.A. "back in the days". So many gigs and different styles of bands that it was sickening. You could go to a show and see a crazy band like 45 Grave on the same bill with the Angry Samoans or Fishbone or even Bad Religion. And I'm not gonna even get into how many touring bands came through there... U.K. '82 anyone? All those glorious shows at the Olympic Auditorium? Fuck we were stupid. We bitched about how the scene sucked and this club was lame and this promoter is an asshole... blah blah blah. Pretty much like I hear people complaining about the scene here in Las Vegas. Same bitching, different plane of existence. But at least I have the sense to appreciate it now. Things are great here in Sin City... there's a ton of diverse bands out and about now... it's summer so that means that a shit load of bored kids will be starting up bands... desert shows are coming back as a force to be reckoned with... house parties as always are fun, just as long as it doesn't happen at your house of course, and that piece of shit bar The Boston is crashing and burning. Woo Hoo! Hopefully the people that read that Mercury story from last week will aid in it's quick and timely demise. And did anyone even bother to read the City Life's Local Music Issue? The Killers? The Luv-Taps? WTF? Lame. So yeah. I have no idea what's going on band wise, and all I've been doing is sitting at home listening to 45 Grave and the fucking AMAZING new album by The Dragons! Holy Jesus... this shit just rocks like fuck, and it literally blew my fucking mind. Go here to read what I thought about it. Gigs Page is updated... if anyone still cares or gives a fuck I posted the next installment of the Tour Diary, and you can go here to read about me passing out drunk in the streets of Oakland... it's late, I'm tired... I'm going to bed.
