Just a bit of friendly advice: If you ever find yourself in the vicinity of Liz, the brand spanking new bass player for Unfair Fight, and she's drunk, don't ever, EVER, tell her that the new singer from Turbonegro sucks, because, as Hank found out last night, she will fucking crack you one something proper and dot you hard as fuck right in the eye! hahaha Yeah, the gig last night @ the Beauty Bar was pretty cool. Lots of Friends just chilling out and having fun. I got there just as Audacity started playing, and they were good, with Mr. Bobby Franks, Esq. summing their sound up perfectly by saying 'they're the O.C. sound from 25 years ago'. He also said they usually do an Adolescents cover, but alas, tonight, they didn't. Boooooo. I wasn't really in the mood for any more covers though, as I had just escaped from that Bonfire gig @ the House of Booooo's. Bonfire is an AC/DC cover band with a spot on Bon Scott doppelganger that, for some reason, plays the entire Back In Black album after a pretty rocking opening set of songs (Sin City - Rocker - Whole Lotta Rosie - Beating Around The Bush) I was just like YES!!! and then, they play that Back In Black shit. The name of the band is Bonfire, not Brianfire. I would of never went to the gig if I would of thought even for a second that I'd be hearing some Brian Johnson shit. Boooooo. Is there not enough Bon Scott material to fill out an entire set? Yeah, exactly. Seeing the Bon Scott dude singing like Brian Johnson was just too much for me to take so I threw my $9 beer down in disgust and left. Don't fuck with my Bon Scott man. AC/DC are a band near and dear to my heart. Don't fuck with them. :-)
So yeah, where was I? Oh yeah, Beauty Bar! lol Everyone and their Mom was telling me to check out King Tuff. I had no idea of who they were, but SOMEONE who's opinion I really trust told me that I would like them. They're real Poppy - You'll dig them she said and damned if she wasn't right. They sounded like a cross between Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and oh, I dunno, Wire? Magazine? Something like that. Jingle -Jangle guitars with a catchy Pop beat with some pretty impressive falsetto vocals thrown on top for good measure. I dug 'em. They announced that some song was about being stoned or something and I liked them even more. :-) Hank told me they were on Sub Pop, which was a bit of a shock because 1) They didn't really sound like a Sub Pop type of band and 2) I didn't even know Sub Pop was still around! LOL I went to buy a record from the merch table when King Tuff were done playing, but they were selling 'em for $20 each, and Pam told me I could get it from the Sub Pop website for $12, so that's what I'm gonna do. ;-) Yeah, after Hank got punched in the eye I figured it was as good a time as any to get the fuck out of there, so I made a beeline for the back door and stumbled my way back to my car and made my way back Home. I had to get some rest. :-)
Enjoy your weekend.
Go to this gig tonight and beg them to play properly songs like Linda Blair, Burnout, Annette's Got The Hits, Pseudo-Intellectual, Everyday There's Someone New, Cover Band, Kill Someone You Hate, Cease To Exist, Standing In Front Of A Poseur and a few more songs I can't think of right now... heh heh Redd Kross were such a great band live - you have no idea. Starwood 1980 is probably the best I ever saw the band. Them and the Adolescents just destroyed the place that night. If this gig was somewhere else and with a different era line up, I'd be right there with ya boozing it up on free rum and rocking out until I barfed, but as it is, I'm sitting this one out. Have fun though, enjoy the gig! And when you get there tell Pitt I said to Fuck Off! ;-)
I really don't think I can do it. I really can't. There was just too much fun stuff going on this past weekend for me to even compute what all happened and how fun it was! LOL From running into supposed 'mortal enemies' who just came up to me and were like 'Hey Gilby - what's up?', to making people run away from where I was at and hide from me (seriously, WTF???), the oriental Angel that fell from Heaven right into my lap @ Carl's Jr. (ask Bob about that one), and oh, the people who tip toed around me and acted like I wasn't even there, acted like they didn't even see me, that was the funniest shit of them all. Yeah. There was Music involved this weekend too, with me catching a fantastic set from D.I. @ the Aruba on Sat. night, and also that opening band Kids On Fire were fucking cool too. I think they're from Seattle, check them out. Death By Stereo were pretty sick as well, and I watched their set from the backstage area while breaking my kit down. I saw a few of the Mapes at the Aruba as well, checking out the Maxies, who everybody told me were really good. Coming all that way from Iceland, CA., they better be! ;-) Oh, and that band Trash Monsters, from CA., total ass clowns. They fucking sucked big time.
I played 2 gigs this weekend with Guilty By Association, and I think I did OK. At least that's what people told me anyways... heh. I was totally spazzing out about playing the songs right and at the right tempo, but the important people who know the bands songs said we sounded great, so I felt pretty good about it all once things were said and done. Again, don't ask me because I don't know what my status with the band is. Mike told the crowd at the Aruba that I was filling in, so whatever. At both gigs I couldn't hear shit, couldn't see shit, and was totally floundering like a fish out of water trying to play everything correctly. I did the best I could. :-) Somebody from the band Break The Cycle filmed us playing at the Double Clown Sun. night, so check it out and see for yourself what we sounded like, and you tell me - is it good?
Oh, and I bowled with the Vegascendents
this year too, and we made it to the 2nd round, which is pretty rad for a team's first year. We dragged our sorry asses to the bowling alley at 10 in the morning on Sunday, just to lose to some cool team called the Los Angelaskans, who beat us by like, a zillion pins or so. I was running on absolutely NO sleep and still drunk and stupid. That's my excuse. I can't speak for my Teammates, who went to bed early and were well rested and bowled the worst games of their lives... ha ha ha It was fun and I'm looking forward to not doing it again next year... heh heh Bowling on the other side of us were the Sharp Objects
, that band I saw on St. Patrick's Day @ Thee Parkside in San Francisco a few months ago. They had an interesting viewpoint of what went down that night with 'Her' and her drunken, pill'd out 'stupiedity', and after talking to them and hearing them tell me what they saw and heard, I love those guys even more! LOL Yeah, she was there. People saw her. Some of them told me. Some of them didn't. Whatever.Oh, and you know what else some people told me? Lots of Jokers tried telling me how "awesome" and "epic" the bands were this year, and after watching a few videos from pretty much every band that played this year on YouTube, I have to wonder what some of you out there are smoking, and how can I get some of that, because it's better than what I'm smoking, that's for sure! LOL Gawd, the bands were just terrible this year. Rancid blew, as usual. NOFX is just phoning it in at this point and should just give it up already. They were just sad. Oh, it was convenient of them to announce this past Fri. that they will be playing poolside @ the Hard Rock next month. How many of you Local suckers would of bought tickets to see NOFX @ Punk Rock Bowling if you knew they were playing the Hard Rock next month? Probably the same amount but I remain forever optimistic that it's not so. Oh, let's see... the Adicks, well, you've seen them once you've seen them a zillion times - no biggie. Adolescents? I'll see 'em the next time they play here Locally within the next few months or so and without a crowd of drunken tourists and dooshbags all around me. Punk Rock Bowling really has turned into the Viva Rockabilly weekender. It's the same shit but with different music and costumes. Dwarves played without He Who Cannot Be Named, and the video I saw of them looked pretty boring.
Plus Blag is a wife stealing dick, so enough said about that band. Youth Brigade
was lame. A drunk Shawn Stern is sad to watch. People were raving about the Dickies
but I didn't see it. They were OK but I've seen 'em better. And to those of you bitching about the Angry Samoans
, didn't you learn your lesson from the last time they played the Beauty Bar? Guess not, but whatever. Pennywise
? ha ha ha ha Yeah right! New singer, old singer, they have always sucked. The Generators
? Youth of Today
? 7 Seconds
? The Belltones
? STFU with that noise. Those bands all sucked and you know it. Look, it wasn't like there wasn't some cool bands that played some great sets this weekend. Cockney Rejects
- AMAZING! They were the only band I was tempted to see this year, but the thought of dealing with the sheep and herd of cattle mentality with the crowd there to see them had me staying as far away as possible. Everyone and their dead Uncle was telling me how incredible Municipal Waste
was, but they were just as incredible opening up for Gwar
a few months ago @ the Hard Rock cafe. I heard Dr. Know
kicked ass, but I knew that when the same reunion with Kyle happened in Ventura last year. Good Riddance
I heard were incredible, same with Word Salad
, but everyone else? Yawn. And that whole Beard Core thing with the acoustic shows happening is a fucking joke. Acoustic guitars are for Hippies like Jim Croce or John Denver. It's the antithesis of everything Punk is and stands for, and if you like it you're just stupid. And if you went to any of those Beauty Bar shows you're incredibly stupid as well. Matt Skiba is a joke. Tim Berry is a fucking cock smoking fag, and so is Tom Gabel, or Laura Jean Grace, or Crazy Confused Cunt, or whatever it's calling itself these days. I'm sooooooooo sick of hearing about that shit, like it's so revolutionary or original. What? Has no one ever heard of Wayne/Jayne County? Genesis P. Orridge? Yeah, didn't think so. The fact that he announces this in Rolling Stone magazine, which hasn't been relevant since they put Britney Spears on the cover the week that Joe Strummer passed away, shows you that it's all just an attention grab, like a baby that smears shit on itself, looking for someone to acknowledge it. Jan Wenner, the Publisher of Rolling Stone, is a well known Queen, so I hope his panties got all gushy and wet when he heard that Tom Gabel wanted to come out in his magazine. I hope he at least got a blow job from Laura Jean Grace for all this free publicity he gave him, her, it, whatever. It's just stupid. Who fucking cares? Seriously. Male or Female, your music still sucks. And if you think any of that Beard Core shit is relevant than you suck too. This shit has got to go. I fucking hate Hippies, I hate Beards, I hate Acoustic music. Just go die already. Go die. Gawd, I hate that I've wasted this much time and effort on Punk Rock Bowling.
I'm gonna go look at some new camera lenses on Amazon to calm myself down. LOL Yeah, Punk Rock Bowling fans, fuck off you Poseurs. Get the fuck out of here. Go back where ya came from! Gee, that sounds so cliched coming from a Native like me. :-) Everything is updated. Yada Yada Yada. I added the Pictures I took of Battle Born
@ the Bunkhouse at their CD release party, and you can click here
to check those out if you wish. Here's hoping I can get some rest this week, because I could definitely use it. I still never found a masseuse...
Shit. In all my spazzing out about Madness I forgot to mention the gheyness of the club shows for Punk Rock Bowling that were just announced last Sunday. How silly of me! Well, where to start? Hmmm... Youth Brigade reunion of all 3 original Stern Bros., ehhhh. Whatever. Last time I saw a reunion of all 3 Stern Bros. it was a drunken mess. Dr. Know reunion with Kyle - that just happened in Ventura a few months ago. Municipal Waste just friggin' played here, same with Agent Orange and the English Beat, and the rest of the bands play here all the time, like the Dwarves or the Adolescents. Good Riddance is cool, but opening up for No Use For A Name? GHEY That line up should definitely be reversed. Union 13, cool, same with the Aggrolites but again, nothing to brag about really. The club shows are just as lame as the big shows, and the scheduling of it all is terrible. You're gonna have to commit to one gig per night really, as trying to bounce from place to place is gonna be a logistical nightmare. Choose wisely and good luck. Unlike a few other jealous assholes that I know, I'm happy that a few Local bands made some of the opening spots. Congratulations to the Vermin, the Seriouslys and the Civilians for representing Vegas in all of this. No offense to you all, but I'm not gonna go see any of the gigs you're playing during PRB weekend. I'd just rather see you when you play your regular gigs here in town when there's a lot less drunken assholes and Poseurs around... heh
Hey! Do you have a beard? Do you think Punk music sounds good played through acoustic guitars? Well, if you answered 'Yes' to both of those questions, then do I have a show for you to attend - it's the Punks In Vegas 1 Year Anniversary party being held at Alternate Reality Comics on Maryland / Flamingo tomorrow night. A collection of Local Singer / Songwriters, not quite as rocking as Jim Croce, but a little more rocking than John Denver will be there pulling at your heartstrings with tales of Woe and Love Lost and being unaccepted by Society. Bring your hankies and make sure to Congratulate the bearded clan of Punks In Vegas for doing a job well done and making it for a year. May your next year be just as fruitful as this one was. Cheers! And buy some comics while you're there, you cheap bastards!
Band practice as of late has been killing me, but it's coming along nicely. Everything is updated, and everything is great here in Las Vegas. Ya know, I think the reason why something as lame as Punk Rock Bowling thrives here is because all these Tools and Sheep that come here by the plane full and car load are coming here for that Vegas thing, that thing of Debauchery and Drunkenness. It's kind of a cliche, but it's also very true to a certain extent. Those of us that live here get to do the Vegas thing 24-7, for 365 days a year. We're Professionals at this shit! LOL This town is our town. It is so glamorous. I bet you'd live here if you could and be one of us... ;-) Punk Rock Bowling... fuck off.
Yeah, look at what you missed out on... heh heh
I know! A new Mapes song! And it rules!! ha ha ha It's worth watching just to see Haywood J. putting his mouth around a beer can and guzzling it down with no hands involved! LOL Now that's Sexy times 12! ;-) Oh man, Friday night was sooooooooo much fun. Yeah, I know everyone and their Mom went to that Adolescents / Youth Brigade / Vermin gig @ LVCS (sheep), and I heard it was a pretty OK show (what was up with TheCore cancelling?) but the gig @ the Arts Factory had better bands and a record swap meet, with lots of crates and boxes full of colored vinyl goodness! I was in Heaven!! ha ha ha I easily blew hundreds of dollars stocking up my vinyl collection with stuff I used to have and stuff that I never had before. F-U-N. Phooey to the elitist record collecting scum dogs who wouldn't take my money for their records. I lost out on a few choice pieces of vinyl because of it, but that's OK because it was their loss. :-) All the Bands that played were cool. Vanish Twin from AZ. were easily the highlight of the night, playing some twisted Neurosis type ambient noise grind-core shit. Here's a video of them doing a song called Looking For Flames. I stopped recording at the end of the video because I thought they went into a different song. ;-) They continued playing for like 3 minutes after I stopped filming... heh.
Yeah, I was just hanging out and walking around doing my thing and observing the happenings and goings ons and whatnot. Life's Torment kicked things off with a blistering set of Noise not Music that was just broooootal as fuck. Why don't these guys just pack the places they play in with fans going ape shit over their music is beyond me, but whatever. I'm all about catching small, intimate performances with little to no one there, as opposed to big HOB corrals full of automatons and sheeple. Lame. Watching Bob play drums is a trip, because he's a lefty, but his technique is destructive and he's got a good sense of timing and fills which is cool to watch. Larry looks like he's channeling demons when he plays his guitar and screams into the microphone, and Travis acts like he's being tortured and mutilated while he shreds the bass and screams along. Life's Torment are fucking Ace and they just get better and better every time I see them. They're pretty fucking sick and you should check them out each and every time you get the chance. If you like your Punk music chainsaw fast and just as delicate, then look no further than Life's Torment. They bring it each and every time. I posted the photos I took that night already, and they're over to the left of these words. ------------------------>
Speaking of checking things out, check out this thing that Fuzz, one time bartender extraordinaire at the Legendary Cooler Lounge (R.I.P.) has going on. It's a solo project called Fuzz So Low (get it?) with Fuzz playing guitar while accompanying himself on a kick drum and set of high hats. It was pretty cool stuff and it's always fun watching Fuzz kick out the jams. Kick out the jams... get it? Oh, the puns are flying fast and furious today! :-)
Fuzz So Low played inside, and everyone else played outside. Good Greens ( a total Sublime rip off band) played inside, and Spotted Dick And The Love Stew cancelled. Again. Do those guys just sign up to play gigs and then don't play them or something? LOL Sabertooth Snatch (from AZ.) played, and they were pretty good, in a Victim's Family kind of way. I don't think they went over too well with the majority of the crowd, either because they were a bit different then what Die Laughing and Life's Torment threw down, or because everyone was inside checking out the Record Swap Meet. Either or, not a lot of people were checking out Sabertooth Snatch, which was a shame because they were pretty good. Check them out for yourself and see.
Die Laughing. They were pretty good but their set kind of just meshed into the Life's Torment set, because they played back to back from each other and they're basically the same band but with a different bass player. How Bob pulled that one off I'll never know. ;-) The music they play is kick ass though, so it makes it worth it. Their set was short but sweet, ending with a Black Flag cover that brought Travis from Life's Torment back on stage to handle lead vocals. Check out the video and see how well they did thrashing out Gimme Gimme Gimme.
And last but not least is
So yeah, there's my little video wrap up of everything that was going on at the Arts Factory last Friday night. It was a great time and if you weren't there, then you're lame. And if you were at that gig at the LVCS instead of this one, then you're stupid - real stupid. :-)
Yeah, I realize the irony in protesting censorship of the Internet by self-censoring myself ON the Internet, but still, pretty funny stuff. It's also funny how the news about the censorship of the Internet movement was spread via the Internet as well. Oh the delicious irony! The fact that some people out there optimistically believe that they have any say in what the Government is or isn't going to do is laughable to me, although this little censorship issue apparently caused 30 Senators and Congressmen to flip-flop on their position on this, so who knows? Maybe the People can have a say in what goes on in their Government? Or maybe this is feeding the masses just enough to keep them from starving. Giving the dog a bone. Whatever. I thought it was interesting. I participated. The End.
Hey! I don't know if you saw the flyer on your way in here, but there is this pretty fun looking gig happening this Friday at the LVCS: Adolescents / Youth Brigade / The Vermin / TheCore It should be interesting, to say the least. I haven't seen either headlining band in a while, so hearing them running through their 'Greatest Hits set seems like a pretty good way to cap off a Friday night. My Friday night is going to start at the Hellpop Record Swap Meet, where I'm gonna have a grip of cash to buy records with, and if I'm not too busy drooling over some pretty colored vinyl, I might check out some of the bands that are playing, which includes Life's Torment, Die Laughing and, of course, The Mapes. <3 There's some new band playing that's composed of members of 1/2 Ast, but those guys don't like me anymore, so phooey to them. Check them out if you're there though.
Speaking of things you should check out if you're so inclined, tonight @ the Double Down Deadhand are playing some AVN kickoff party or some shit. They're playing with some shitty bands that aren't worth mentioning, bands that think that sexual gimmicks and sloppy blow jobs will allow them to 'make it', whatever that means. The sad part is that some of my Friends like them... Jeesh! hahaha Whatever, go check out Deadhand tonight - you will not be disappointed, unless they decide to play some of their shitty acoustic covers they've been doing as of late for that other 'Punk Rock' website here in town. Acoustic guitars are NOT Punk Rock. Neither are beards, for that matter. Get over it already. Seriously.
Oh, Saturday night this band called Thousand Watt Stare is playing at the Bikini Bar. I'm told they're pretty good and that I might like them, but again, they're playing with some shitty band that's not worth supporting and because of that, I'll be staying at home. Man, I wish these people in these bands would just go away. You can't talk shit about people, run away without paying what you owed them, burning all your bridges in this town and then move away and then come back after a few years and just act like everything is OK and all is forgotten and forgiven. Just because you found new people to believe your bullshit doesn't mean that you're the 'Cool Guy' that those ignorant few think you are. Well, it's either that or maybe I'm just an asshole, I dunno... heh heh Bikini Bar is a cool place, and if you got nothing better to do on Saturday then stop by and check out Thousand Watt Stare and tell me how they were. :-)
Sunday! Sunday!! Sunday!!! Old School Metal comes to the House of Boooooo's when Anthrax, Testament and Death Angel tear shit up there. I've seen all 3 of those bands many, many times before and if I'm feeling all nostalgic I may just stop by and see how well they've aged. Anthrax's new album Worship Music is pretty good, so I may go just to hear how new songs like Fight 'Em Till You Can't and The Devil You Know sound live. And, to watch Charlie Benante play drums. <3
Everything is updated. See you around.
