It's Tuesday morning, I'm catching up on emails that I'm like a few months behind in answering, and I'm checking out the video of the Queen concert that went down this past weekend in Russia somewhere. The band had Adam Lambert, some homo that's apparently only famous for being gay and being on American Idol I think, standing in for Freddie and the bands performance is just terrible. Everything is played too slow, the 2 founding members Brian and Roger who took place in this farce look terrible, and yeah, it just sucks. That dude Adam Lambert can sing, but he sounds more like Tim Finn from Split Enz than the fabulous Mr. Mercury. Ugh. Oh well. Sometimes it's just sad to see a band you adore look so out of place. The smell of Desperation is deep. 14:58 and counting... My last post included a new video from The Dirty Panties, and today I have a new video from Demon Lung to talk about! :-) I shared that Dirty Panties video on the onethirtyeight.org Facebook page, and was surprised that I got those 2 negative comments about it. Oh well. I dunno how people will react to this video after seeing it, but it should be interesting, because this video is twisted! ha ha ha It's from the just released album called Pareidolia by Demon Lung, and it's for a song called Lament Code. I have no idea what the song is about, but it sounds slow and heavy ala later day Corrosion Of Conformity or even Type O Negative, I dunno. The video for the song is just nightmarish, and a great job of using CGI effects and cool puppetry to create one amazing looking video that I'm almost sure was not too expensive to make, although it sure does look like it. Kudos on a job well done on this one Demon Lung. You've certainly set the bar very high for the next Local band who does a video, that's for sure. :-) Speaking of videos, the Gashers are going to premier their new video Panic, from their upcoming Squid Hat Records release called Law Is Not Order, next Tuesday @ 11 am on Facebook, and you can click here to go to the Events Page for it and get yourself in the loop. I'm told I won't be disappointed. I doubt that I shall be. ;-) Hey! Did you see the piece that Jarret Keene did on Battle Born in last weeks Seven magazine? Click here to read it if you haven't already. It's a pretty good piece on a hard working band that definitely deserves it. And like it says at the end of that write up, there is a little bit of a 4th of July shindig going down there on Weds., and you're all invited. BBQ, Beer, Bands, and they're gonna be filming a promo video too, so get your ass down there and have some fun and get drunk and blow stuff up. The view of the strip from there is pretty sweet, so you can watch those fireworks too if you're sober enough to remember to... heh heh heh hahaha OK, just one last thing from the emails before I go. Apparently, a few weeks ago the L.A. Times posted a fluff piece by some dooshbags about the 20 Greatest L.A. Punk Rock Albums of All Time (click here to read it for yourself), and their choices were more than a bit baffling, to say the least, and just as a point of reference, I jotted down their Top 20 list and then made one of my own, and here's what I came up with. Took me all of 10 minutes to do so. I think my choices are pretty good. Of course, I'm nothing but a Homophobic, Bitter Old Poseur, so take anything I say with a huge grain of salt, because what do I know, right? ;-) L.A. Times List- Black Flag - Damaged

| So yeah, if you ignore the fact that the L.A. Times list has bands from Orange County on their list, and a few compilations from bands that were comprised of singles and live tracks, and a couple that weren't even albums, then I guess it's a good list! LOL Honorable mentions go to Slayer - Reign In Blood, Red Kross - Born Innocent, 45 Grave - Sleep In Safety, Cryptic Slaughter - Convicted, Minutemen - Double Nickels On The Dime, Christian Death - Only Theater Of Pain and everything the Screamers never recorded. :-) I can't wait to do another list for the Top 20 L.A. Punk Rock Singles of All Time - now THAT would be fun!! :-)
Everything is updated - the Peter Murphy gig is happening at the LVCS and not the Beauty Bar as I falsely reported last Friday, all sorts of shit is getting added all the time, so keep coming back. And if I don't post anything tomorrow, I'll wish you all a Happy 4th of July now! Try not to blow any appendages off it at all possible! ;-)
I really don't think I can do it. I really can't. There was just too much fun stuff going on this past weekend for me to even compute what all happened and how fun it was! LOL From running into supposed 'mortal enemies' who just came up to me and were like 'Hey Gilby - what's up?', to making people run away from where I was at and hide from me (seriously, WTF???), the oriental Angel that fell from Heaven right into my lap @ Carl's Jr. (ask Bob about that one), and oh, the people who tip toed around me and acted like I wasn't even there, acted like they didn't even see me, that was the funniest shit of them all. Yeah. There was Music involved this weekend too, with me catching a fantastic set from D.I. @ the Aruba on Sat. night, and also that opening band Kids On Fire were fucking cool too. I think they're from Seattle, check them out. Death By Stereo were pretty sick as well, and I watched their set from the backstage area while breaking my kit down. I saw a few of the Mapes at the Aruba as well, checking out the Maxies, who everybody told me were really good. Coming all that way from Iceland, CA., they better be! ;-) Oh, and that band Trash Monsters, from CA., total ass clowns. They fucking sucked big time.
I played 2 gigs this weekend with Guilty By Association, and I think I did OK. At least that's what people told me anyways... heh. I was totally spazzing out about playing the songs right and at the right tempo, but the important people who know the bands songs said we sounded great, so I felt pretty good about it all once things were said and done. Again, don't ask me because I don't know what my status with the band is. Mike told the crowd at the Aruba that I was filling in, so whatever. At both gigs I couldn't hear shit, couldn't see shit, and was totally floundering like a fish out of water trying to play everything correctly. I did the best I could. :-) Somebody from the band Break The Cycle filmed us playing at the Double Clown Sun. night, so check it out and see for yourself what we sounded like, and you tell me - is it good?
Oh, and I bowled with the Vegascendents this year too, and we made it to the 2nd round, which is pretty rad for a team's first year. We dragged our sorry asses to the bowling alley at 10 in the morning on Sunday, just to lose to some cool team called the Los Angelaskans, who beat us by like, a zillion pins or so. I was running on absolutely NO sleep and still drunk and stupid. That's my excuse. I can't speak for my Teammates, who went to bed early and were well rested and bowled the worst games of their lives... ha ha ha It was fun and I'm looking forward to not doing it again next year... heh heh Bowling on the other side of us were the Sharp Objects, that band I saw on St. Patrick's Day @ Thee Parkside in San Francisco a few months ago. They had an interesting viewpoint of what went down that night with 'Her' and her drunken, pill'd out 'stupiedity', and after talking to them and hearing them tell me what they saw and heard, I love those guys even more! LOL Yeah, she was there. People saw her. Some of them told me. Some of them didn't. Whatever. Oh, and you know what else some people told me? Lots of Jokers tried telling me how "awesome" and "epic" the bands were this year, and after watching a few videos from pretty much every band that played this year on YouTube, I have to wonder what some of you out there are smoking, and how can I get some of that, because it's better than what I'm smoking, that's for sure! LOL Gawd, the bands were just terrible this year. Rancid blew, as usual. NOFX is just phoning it in at this point and should just give it up already. They were just sad. Oh, it was convenient of them to announce this past Fri. that they will be playing poolside @ the Hard Rock next month. How many of you Local suckers would of bought tickets to see NOFX @ Punk Rock Bowling if you knew they were playing the Hard Rock next month? Probably the same amount but I remain forever optimistic that it's not so. Oh, let's see... the Adicks, well, you've seen them once you've seen them a zillion times - no biggie. Adolescents? I'll see 'em the next time they play here Locally within the next few months or so and without a crowd of drunken tourists and dooshbags all around me. Punk Rock Bowling really has turned into the Viva Rockabilly weekender. It's the same shit but with different music and costumes. Dwarves played without He Who Cannot Be Named, and the video I saw of them looked pretty boring. Plus Blag is a wife stealing dick, so enough said about that band. Youth Brigade was lame. A drunk Shawn Stern is sad to watch. People were raving about the Dickies but I didn't see it. They were OK but I've seen 'em better. And to those of you bitching about the Angry Samoans, didn't you learn your lesson from the last time they played the Beauty Bar? Guess not, but whatever. Pennywise? ha ha ha ha Yeah right! New singer, old singer, they have always sucked. The Generators? Youth of Today? 7 Seconds? The Belltones? STFU with that noise. Those bands all sucked and you know it. Look, it wasn't like there wasn't some cool bands that played some great sets this weekend. Cockney Rejects - AMAZING! They were the only band I was tempted to see this year, but the thought of dealing with the sheep and herd of cattle mentality with the crowd there to see them had me staying as far away as possible. Everyone and their dead Uncle was telling me how incredible Municipal Waste was, but they were just as incredible opening up for Gwar a few months ago @ the Hard Rock cafe. I heard Dr. Know kicked ass, but I knew that when the same reunion with Kyle happened in Ventura last year. Good Riddance I heard were incredible, same with Word Salad, but everyone else? Yawn. And that whole Beard Core thing with the acoustic shows happening is a fucking joke. Acoustic guitars are for Hippies like Jim Croce or John Denver. It's the antithesis of everything Punk is and stands for, and if you like it you're just stupid. And if you went to any of those Beauty Bar shows you're incredibly stupid as well. Matt Skiba is a joke. Tim Berry is a fucking cock smoking fag, and so is Tom Gabel, or Laura Jean Grace, or Crazy Confused Cunt, or whatever it's calling itself these days. I'm sooooooooo sick of hearing about that shit, like it's so revolutionary or original. What? Has no one ever heard of Wayne/Jayne County? Genesis P. Orridge? Yeah, didn't think so. The fact that he announces this in Rolling Stone magazine, which hasn't been relevant since they put Britney Spears on the cover the week that Joe Strummer passed away, shows you that it's all just an attention grab, like a baby that smears shit on itself, looking for someone to acknowledge it. Jan Wenner, the Publisher of Rolling Stone, is a well known Queen, so I hope his panties got all gushy and wet when he heard that Tom Gabel wanted to come out in his magazine. I hope he at least got a blow job from Laura Jean Grace for all this free publicity he gave him, her, it, whatever. It's just stupid. Who fucking cares? Seriously. Male or Female, your music still sucks. And if you think any of that Beard Core shit is relevant than you suck too. This shit has got to go. I fucking hate Hippies, I hate Beards, I hate Acoustic music. Just go die already. Go die. Gawd, I hate that I've wasted this much time and effort on Punk Rock Bowling. I'm gonna go look at some new camera lenses on Amazon to calm myself down. LOL Yeah, Punk Rock Bowling fans, fuck off you Poseurs. Get the fuck out of here. Go back where ya came from! Gee, that sounds so cliched coming from a Native like me. :-) Everything is updated. Yada Yada Yada. I added the Pictures I took of Battle Born @ the Bunkhouse at their CD release party, and you can click here to check those out if you wish. Here's hoping I can get some rest this week, because I could definitely use it. I still never found a masseuse...
OK - it's Official - This gig for Eric from the Naked City Romeos is happening on Friday! LOL I only know that because Emma from the Seriouslys made a flyer for the gig! :-) The Seriouslys, the Fremonts, and, of course, the Naked City Romeos (or, as Turbo calls it, the Bacon City Rodeo) will all be playing in celebration of Eric's 50th year on Earth. That's quite an accomplishment if ya ask me! Anyways, stop on by and bring the guy a gift or buy him some drinks and have fun with some of the cooler people in town, who will be both hanging out and playing on stage. And if you haven't already, head over to the Seriouslys Reverb Nation band page by clicking here and check out the songs and video they have posted on there. The songs sound killer. Where the Hell were they recorded at? Kudos to whoever mixed them. They're nice and LOUD! :-) And the video is pretty cool too. It's for a song called Kick Me Out that I can recall the band playing a few times that I saw them. The video seems to be more about the Double Down than the song, but whatever. It's still cool. Check it out below. There's this pretty cool thing going on Saturday afternoon in Boomer's parking lot. It's a Punk Rock Swap Meet/Garage Sale where Local Musicians and Artists will be selling used gear, band merch, art, photos, used household goods, crafts, jewelry, clothing and a bunch more stuff, so if you're looking for some deals then stop on by! There's gonna be some bands playing (.Bipolar / The Fat Dukes Of Fuck / Mechanical Death) and a food truck for all of you with the munchies. ;-) Or, if you don't wanna eat there, head over to Yayo Taco afterwords to see Local bands Dead Neon and Spun In Darkness playing with some heavy ass bands from Arizona with names like Godhunter, Inoculara and Blister Unit. The gig starts @ 6, so get there early to check out all the bands. You should definitely check out this gig rather than that shitty Angry Samoans gig going down @ the Cheyenne, that's for sure. I don't know how that band is even still around, and after that last gig of there's @ the Beauty Bar a while back, I don't know how they can even be comfortable playing here! LOL Give it up guys. Seriously. :-)
Everything is updated. Pictures of the Quitters were just added, and you can check them out by clicking right here. That Roddy Radiation (from the Specials) gig is happening tonight @ the Aruba, but I don't think that I'm going to that, but check it out if you're so inclined. It might be fun. :-) Have a great weekend. See ya around somewhere.
Seriously - how sick was that Nails gig last night? That band was fucking mind blowing, face melting, life affirming, and any other superlative infused adjective sentence that you can think of. Definitely a highlight of the year and if you missed out on it, well, too fucking bad for you. This shit was legendary, and brought everyone and their mother out to the gig. It would of been perfect if it wasn't for the douche bag tuff girl hardcore dancing that was going on. The room just fills up with gheyness when the stupied xHaRdCoReX kids start doing that shit. It's almost embarrassing at this point when it happens. Much like Rockasilly, I can't wait until it just dies and goes away. I don't know the names of any of the bands that were opening the gig, but one of them was some new band with Andres and Cheeze, who used to be in Weirding Way and Vulcans, and was pretty fucking brutal, in a very good way. The bass players pedal or cabinet or both blew up like 3 or 4 songs in, so it was a short but sweet set from them but man, was it fucking good. The night was filled with drama, Drama DRAMA, with both guys and girls getting into fights with each other, and the Ecophagy Records blow up with Crystal, Big Red and some other chick was pretty fun to be in the middle of. A night full of Drama and none of it had anything to do with me! LOL Such a rarity indeed! Great night @ Yayo Taco. Write up coming soon - Hank, where were you at fucker???
It figures that my car decides to take a shit AGAIN today, on the eve of the Punk Rock Weekend going on @ Area 702 skate park, kicking off tonight with the Agent Orange / 7 Outs gig I was going to go to. I went to band practice instead. Sat. I was going to go to a very Special wedding of 2 very dear friends, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen for me. Sorry. After the wedding I was heading over to the LVCS to catch Raw Power rip shit up, but it looks like I'm missing out on that too. Fucking bad timing or what? The Punk Rock weekend had Angry Samoans and CH3 on Sun., but I wasn't even planning on that. I feel sorry for CH3, because the Angry Samoans suck sooooooooo badly now that it's gotta be an embarrassment to gig with them, like it's an embarrassment to gig with certain Local bands nowadays. Funny how the 2 lamest ones to be on those bills were suddenly gone off of them, if they were ever on them at all. It's over Johnny - it's over. Deal with it.
Yeah, lots of things going on, so take advantage. New bands gigging around, Old bands playing that may never be seen in these parts ever again. This is no time to be stuck at home with a defective fuel pump, so get off your ass and see some live music. There's no better way to spend the weekend.
Hey! Through the magic of the Internet I just found out that the Apocalyptics are playing @ the Double Down tonight with the Shakes and Season Of The Nightmare. Go out and support a great band that deserves it, in a place that I wouldn't be caught dead in... heh heh
I just added a shitload of upcoming gigs to the Gig Calendar page, stuff like, oh, I dunno, Youth Brigade, Zeke, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Voodoo Glow Skulls (now moved to the Beauty Bar... UGH!), Fu Manchu, the Adicks, CH3, the Pixies, Agent Orange, Angry Samoans, D.I., that American Carnage Tour with Slayer / Anthrax / Megadeth (siiiiiiiiiick) and lots and lots of Local gigs too. Check it out and plan accordingly. Interesting things are a brewing, that's for sure. ;-)
True story... I've been sitting here listening to the 45 Grave - Black Cross 7" on repeat now for like an hour... and it's great. I listen to this shit and I remember how good we had it in L.A. "back in the days". So many gigs and different styles of bands that it was sickening. You could go to a show and see a crazy band like 45 Grave on the same bill with the Angry Samoans or Fishbone or even Bad Religion. And I'm not gonna even get into how many touring bands came through there... U.K. '82 anyone? All those glorious shows at the Olympic Auditorium? Fuck we were stupid. We bitched about how the scene sucked and this club was lame and this promoter is an asshole... blah blah blah. Pretty much like I hear people complaining about the scene here in Las Vegas. Same bitching, different plane of existence. But at least I have the sense to appreciate it now. Things are great here in Sin City... there's a ton of diverse bands out and about now... it's summer so that means that a shit load of bored kids will be starting up bands... desert shows are coming back as a force to be reckoned with... house parties as always are fun, just as long as it doesn't happen at your house of course, and that piece of shit bar The Boston is crashing and burning. Woo Hoo! Hopefully the people that read that Mercury story from last week will aid in it's quick and timely demise. And did anyone even bother to read the City Life's Local Music Issue? The Killers? The Luv-Taps? WTF? Lame. So yeah. I have no idea what's going on band wise, and all I've been doing is sitting at home listening to 45 Grave and the fucking AMAZING new album by The Dragons! Holy Jesus... this shit just rocks like fuck, and it literally blew my fucking mind. Go here to read what I thought about it. Gigs Page is updated... if anyone still cares or gives a fuck I posted the next installment of the Tour Diary, and you can go here to read about me passing out drunk in the streets of Oakland... it's late, I'm tired... I'm going to bed.
