It's too late for this announcement to mean anything, but Deadhand will NOT be playing @ the Bunkhouse tonight, due to unforeseeable reasons. This sux because I was seriously planning on going down there to get my fix on from them sexy beasts in that band. They were playing with Burning Agrestic, who are a good band, but just not good enough to get me to go downtown on a Sat. night. Phooey. Now I got nothing to do. I'm not going to Club Scarlett, and I'm definitely not going to the Double Clown. But then Roxie sends me a text saying that Union 13 (from East Los) was playing tonight. I suddenly got hyped, but just as quickly it went away once I saw who they were playing with. Ugh!
Union 13
This is the flyer she sent me for the gig. No offense, but can you believe this shit? It clearly looks like Union 13 got added to an already established bill of mediocrity, which is something that Favorite's is notoriously known for; adding too many bands to one gig, and add this to the fact that that fucking place never promotes any of their gigs or events from like all 3 of their Facebook pages and you can see how I can get pissed about this shit. I love Union 13. I've got everything they've put out, well, everything up to before their original lead singer left, and I've been supporting them since their Boyle Heights / City Terrace backyard party beginnings, but despite all that, I don't love them enough to go see them at this gig. I couldn't stand through the opening bands suckiness and low energy levels, even though Fuzz So Low is pretty good, but not on a bill like this. Union 13 needs a good line up of angry Punk bands to play with, not a line up of a bunch of bands compromised of mature Musicians showing off their chops. Oh well. Better luck next time. I messaged the band on Facebook, telling them if they wanted a good gig to hit me up. I'm hoping they take me up on the offer.

Anyways, everything is updated. I just added a Gig Review from the Legendary Karl Bakla, a review for the Generators / Guilty By Association / Battle Born / The Seriouslys gig he went to a few weeks back, and you can go here to check it out. I also added some of the photos I took at the LVCS a while back, photos of CH3 and the Hard Pipe Hitters, and you can go here to check out the photos of CH3, and you can click here to see the pictures of the Hard Pipe Hitters, or you can just go to the Pictures page and seek them out yourself; either / or. I'll leave you with a video I took that night of the Tinglerz playing a damn catchy song that I don't know the name of. It's Super Bowl Sunday tomorrow and I could give a shit less. East Coast Rap Thug Mentality vs. West Coast Rap Thug Mentality. They can both suck it as far as I'm concerned.

Well, as it was previously stated in the comments section on the post before this, the Squid Hat Records showcase this weekend was fun for everyone involved! Everyone was raving about it, and they were actually turning people away at the door because it was so packed. And according to to one of the trio of Squid Hat judges, the winners have NOT been chosen yet, and if you don't believe me, you can click here and read for yourself what he had to say about it all. Oh, and just ignore all that talk about Puckered Starfish... heh heh

Everybody was at the Double Clown this weekend, which would explain why NOBODY was at CH3 on Sat. night! lol It was almost embarrassing to see them play to a room full of nothing and nobody, but hey, I guess everyone here in Vegas is waiting to see them play @ Punk Rock Posing, where it's cool to watch bands in a pen outside where the bands are on a stage yards and yards away from you and the beer and water are far from cheap. ;-)

I've been on Facebook all afternoon, commenting snarkily on the latest announcement from Punk Rock Posing about the latest bands added to the line up. I think the fact that some of the fools on Facebook were commenting on why Devo was on the bill says it all better than I ever could. Turbonegro... yawn. Weirdos... interesting. Same goes for Funeral Dress and Tartar Control, who are all bands better suited to be seen in a smaller, intimate venue, but whatever. I'm bored with bashing on it. I'm embarrassed that people are hyped on it. It's cool to see the Dirty Panties and Surrounded By Thieves on the bill though. Congrats people. You'll do Vegas proud I'm sure.

Anyways, I gotta cut this short. A band practice I wasn't sure was going to happen has come to fruition, and I must attend to these matters otherwise the ladies in my band will get their panties all in a bunch, and I just hate when that happens... heh heh Everything's updated. Make sure to check out the Pictures of The Fat Dukes Of Fuck that I just posted by clicking here. I took over 300 photos of their visual spectacle, and my photos don't do justice to the lunacy that ensues at their performances, but I try anyways... heh heh

Agent Orange
Just to address a few of the rumors I've been hearing about myself lately:

  1. I don't care what that picture supposedly shows. That could be anybody's ass in that picture.
  2. I can assure you that the kitty cat was totally of legal age, and that her resemblance to Kim Kardashian was nothing more than coincidental at best.
  3. The blood bag had no identifying marks on it, thus, it could of been anybody's fluid in that sack.
  4. The staph infection in my right leg might cost me my foot, not my Life.

Yeah, the putrid, festering bloody wound on my right leg was apparently something that required immediate medical attention, what with me being a diabetic with high blood pressure and all. I neglected it, as I am want to do with a lot of things medical, and despite being in a horrific amount of pain, still managed to play some incredibly mediocre sets of music to a few lucky people in attendance at the aforementioned gigs. The less said about last Fri.'s gig @ Favorite's the better. American Buckshot played to a room full of nothing and no one, because everyone cleared out and went home right after Agent Orange played, pretty much like I knew they would. The sound of the crickets in between songs was deafening, and we played like shit because of it. At least that's what I'm blaming it on anyways. ;-) I guess the moral of the story is to NEVER play after the headlining band, no matter how much your singer tells you it's going to be great and how packed it's going to be. And what was up with that drunken idiot who was racing around, burning out and spinning doughnuts in the parking lot of Favorite's in that tricked out Pontiac or whatever it was, almost crashing into cars while doing so, and who attracted the attention of every limp dick cop within a 3 mile radius, and who then tried to hide out inside the bar... Idiot! I hope they arrested him. Anyone know what happened with that?

Screaming Images
Sat. my leg was fucking killing me. Playing the gig the night before didn't help, and plus my ongoing battle with the flu had me on the losing end of things once again. I had to play this grand opening of a place called Screaming Images, which I only found out hours before was in Hendertucky, and I had to play it in a Vegascendents set, which, according to my account, the band hadn't practiced playing in over 263 days or so, but I doped myself up pretty good by downing half a bottle of DayQuil and a handful of pain killers and managed to stumble my way through a set that people seemed to enjoy. Thanks to everyone for coming out to that and helping themselves to all that free food and drink, ya bastards! lol After playing that set, my band mates were sooooo concerned for my general welfare and the festering wound oozing sickness on my leg that they thought it would be a good idea to play another set somewhere else, basically barnstorming our way onto a bill we had no business being on. We tried Favorite's, but for some reason we didn't play there. Instead, we ventured down the street a bit to play at the Double Clown with Geezus Cryst & Free Beer. At least that's what I was told anyways. I was listening to them from in the van, where I was mentally getting ready to play the gig and cursing my band mates for putting me in this predicament. If better prepared, I could of done it, but as it was, under prepared and sans drugs and medication, I was dead meat in the water. Dead. Fucking. Meat. So after playing, both Jeremy and Bob convinced me to go to the E.R. which, in hindsight, probably saved my life. The Dr.'s said if I had waited another 24 hours or so I probably would of died. Scary stuff, right?

The thing that would of killed me was a staph infection, a hideous staph infection, according to the Nurse who first saw me. They admitted me immediately and spent the next few days pumping me full of antibiotics and morphine, which just reminded me of why I love heroin so much... LOL Right now I'm in the middle of a battery of tests to determine how much damage has been done to my leg. If the infection has gone to the bone, then I'm gonna be losing my foot and about to become the world's first peg leg drummer. ;-) Anyone that knows me knows that I'm all about that PMA, so I remain forever optimistic that everything's going to be fine and that I'll be kicking ass with both feet attached for many years to come now. The final prognosis comes down on Friday. It sucks getting old. It really does.

Everything is updated. The photos of Unfair Fight playing @ Artifice can be seen by clicking here. The big Squid Hat Records showcase is going down this weekend, but I'll be nowhere near the Double Clown when it does, but Good Luck to everyone that's playing or involved with it. If my sources are correct, the 2 bands to be the next to be signed have already been chosen, so I'm curious to see who comes out victorious in this weekends events. If that's not your thing you could always go see CH3 play at the LVCS on Sat. If I'm able to that's where I'm going to be. Keep your fingers (and toes) crossed! PMA all the way!

It's Tuesday morning, I'm catching up on emails that I'm like a few months behind in answering, and I'm checking out the video of the Queen concert that went down this past weekend in Russia somewhere. The band had Adam Lambert, some homo that's apparently only famous for being gay and being on American Idol I think, standing in for Freddie and the bands performance is just terrible. Everything is played too slow, the 2 founding members Brian and Roger who took place in this farce look terrible, and yeah, it just sucks. That dude Adam Lambert can sing, but he sounds more like Tim Finn from Split Enz than the fabulous Mr. Mercury. Ugh. Oh well. Sometimes it's just sad to see a band you adore look so out of place. The smell of Desperation is deep. 14:58 and counting...

My last post included a new video from The Dirty Panties, and today I have a new video from Demon Lung to talk about! :-) I shared that Dirty Panties video on the onethirtyeight.org Facebook page, and was surprised that I got those 2 negative comments about it. Oh well. I dunno how people will react to this video after seeing it, but it should be interesting, because this video is twisted! ha ha ha It's from the just released album called Pareidolia by Demon Lung, and it's for a song called Lament Code. I have no idea what the song is about, but it sounds slow and heavy ala later day Corrosion Of Conformity or even Type O Negative, I dunno. The video for the song is just nightmarish, and a great job of using CGI effects and cool puppetry to create one amazing looking video that I'm almost sure was not too expensive to make, although it sure does look like it. Kudos on a job well done on this one Demon Lung. You've certainly set the bar very high for the next Local band who does a video, that's for sure. :-)
Speaking of videos, the Gashers are going to premier their new video Panic, from their upcoming Squid Hat Records release called Law Is Not Order, next Tuesday @ 11 am on Facebook, and you can click here to go to the Events Page for it and get yourself in the loop. I'm told I won't be disappointed. I doubt that I shall be. ;-)

Hey! Did you see the piece that Jarret Keene did on Battle Born in last weeks Seven magazine? Click here to read it if you haven't already. It's a pretty good piece on a hard working band that definitely deserves it. And like it says at the end of that write up, there is a little bit of a 4th of July shindig going down there on Weds., and you're all invited. BBQ, Beer, Bands, and they're gonna be filming a promo video too, so get your ass down there and have some fun and get drunk and blow stuff up. The view of the strip from there is pretty sweet, so you can watch those fireworks too if you're sober enough to remember to... heh heh heh

hahaha OK, just one last thing from the emails before I go. Apparently, a few weeks ago the L.A. Times posted a fluff piece by some dooshbags about the 20 Greatest L.A. Punk Rock Albums of All Time (click here to read it for yourself), and their choices were more than a bit baffling, to say the least, and just as a point of reference, I jotted down their Top 20 list and then made one of my own, and here's what I came up with. Took me all of 10 minutes to do so. I think my choices are pretty good. Of course, I'm nothing but a Homophobic, Bitter Old Poseur, so take anything I say with a huge grain of salt, because what do I know, right? ;-)

So yeah, if you ignore the fact that the L.A. Times list has bands from Orange County on their list, and a few compilations from bands that were comprised of singles and live tracks, and a couple that weren't even albums, then I guess it's a good list! LOL Honorable mentions go to Slayer - Reign In Blood, Red Kross - Born Innocent, 45 Grave - Sleep In Safety, Cryptic Slaughter - Convicted, Minutemen - Double Nickels On The Dime, Christian Death - Only Theater Of Pain and everything the Screamers never recorded. :-) I can't wait to do another list for the Top 20 L.A. Punk Rock Singles of All Time - now THAT would be fun!! :-)

Everything is updated - the Peter Murphy gig is happening at the LVCS and not the Beauty Bar as I falsely reported last Friday, all sorts of shit is getting added all the time, so keep coming back. And if I don't post anything tomorrow, I'll wish you all a Happy 4th of July now! Try not to blow any appendages off it at all possible! ;-)

Seriously - how sick was that Nails gig last night? That band was fucking mind blowing, face melting, life affirming, and any other superlative infused adjective sentence that you can think of. Definitely a highlight of the year and if you missed out on it, well, too fucking bad for you. This shit was legendary, and brought everyone and their mother out to the gig. It would of been perfect if it wasn't for the douche bag tuff girl hardcore dancing that was going on. The room just fills up with gheyness when the stupied xHaRdCoReX kids start doing that shit. It's almost embarrassing at this point when it happens. Much like Rockasilly, I can't wait until it just dies and goes away. I don't know the names of any of the bands that were opening the gig, but one of them was some new band with Andres and Cheeze, who used to be in Weirding Way and Vulcans, and was pretty fucking brutal, in a very good way. The bass players pedal or cabinet or both blew up like 3 or 4 songs in, so it was a short but sweet set from them but man, was it fucking good. The night was filled with drama, Drama DRAMA, with both guys and girls getting into fights with each other, and the Ecophagy Records blow up with Crystal, Big Red and some other chick was pretty fun to be in the middle of. A night full of Drama and none of it had anything to do with me! LOL Such a rarity indeed! Great night @ Yayo Taco. Write up coming soon - Hank, where were you at fucker???

It figures that my car decides to take a shit AGAIN today, on the eve of the Punk Rock Weekend going on @ Area 702 skate park, kicking off tonight with the Agent Orange / 7 Outs gig I was going to go to. I went to band practice instead. Sat. I was going to go to a very Special wedding of 2 very dear friends, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen for me. Sorry. After the wedding I was heading over to the LVCS to catch Raw Power rip shit up, but it looks like I'm missing out on that too. Fucking bad timing or what? The Punk Rock weekend had Angry Samoans and CH3 on Sun., but I wasn't even planning on that. I feel sorry for CH3, because the Angry Samoans suck sooooooooo badly now that it's gotta be an embarrassment to gig with them, like it's an embarrassment to gig with certain Local bands nowadays. Funny how the 2 lamest ones to be on those bills were suddenly gone off of them, if they were ever on them at all. It's over Johnny - it's over. Deal with it.

Yeah, lots of things going on, so take advantage. New bands gigging around, Old bands playing that may never be seen in these parts ever again. This is no time to be stuck at home with a defective fuel pump, so get off your ass and see some live music. There's no better way to spend the weekend.

Hey! Through the magic of the Internet I just found out that the Apocalyptics are playing @ the Double Down tonight with the Shakes and Season Of The Nightmare. Go out and support a great band that deserves it, in a place that I wouldn't be caught dead in... heh heh

I just added a shitload of upcoming gigs to the Gig Calendar page, stuff like, oh, I dunno, Youth Brigade, Zeke, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Voodoo Glow Skulls (now moved to the Beauty Bar... UGH!), Fu Manchu, the Adicks, CH3, the Pixies, Agent Orange, Angry Samoans, D.I., that American Carnage Tour with Slayer / Anthrax / Megadeth (siiiiiiiiiick) and lots and lots of Local gigs too. Check it out and plan accordingly. Interesting things are a brewing, that's for sure. ;-)
