.. .and the Lamb opened the third Seal, and I heard the third living Creature say "Come and See" and behold a Black Horse, and upon him sat Death, and in its hand a pair of Scales... Piece of shit sentenced to Death for Murder
Yeah, it's definitely a weird day today. Chimpanzees running crazy in the streets, Curl Up And Die announcing their getting back together, which I 'kind of' heard something about a while ago, and, of course, the Killers have a new song out called Runaways. Barf. I used to make massive fun of the Killers back when they were first starting out, but then I stopped because it bored me, but after my recent trip to the KISS mini golf place, and seeing those dooshbags in that band up on the wall as some sort of offering to ascertain the status of some of the legendary people who put Vegas on the map (like Bugsy Siegel) just makes me despise that band even more than I already do, which is saying a LOT! heh heh I thought Slaughter would of been more appropriate, but what do I know? LOL I seriously can't wait to go back to KISS mini golf - hopefully with my camera this time! Time... time to talk about some gigs. First one is this Random Orbits / Deadhand / TheCore gig going down at Yayo Taco tonight. This one totally slipped through my fingers as I had been sent the flyer weeks ago, but just never got around to putting it up on the website for whatever bong hit induced reason. It's fucking FREE and you ain't got nothing better to do tonight, so come on out and represent! :-) And then tomorrow night, besides that Bouncing Souls gig @ the HOB, there's this little interesting gig happening at Favorite's, a venue which apparently nobody likes! LOL What did you people expect? Change? Really? Same Idiots, same Drama. You can't teach an old dog new tricks, and believe me, there are some real old dogs and real old tricks inhabiting that place. Anyways, The People's Whiskey will be providing musical accompaniment to the sexy shenanigans of the Battle Born Burlesque, featuring my dear friend Lou Lou Roxy, so if you're feeling adventurous stop by. Everything's updated. I gotta run. Too Hip - Gotta Go. See you at the gigs! :-)
I woke up this afternoon to this link in my email: an intelligent story written by my friend Jarret Keene about Curl Up And Die and their most excellent album from like 10 years ago We Are All Robots that reflects a bit on the bands legacy and the whole awesomeness of that seminal release. It's on the Punks In Vegas website, which is a whole contradiction in terms that I don't even wanna get into, but it's definitely worth a read and you can click here to check that shizzle out. It's really good. Oh, I remembered what I wanted to bring up here - the Madness stuff! :-) As you can see, the Pictures are already posted, and you can click here to see those, and I finished the Show Review for the gig too, and you can click here to read that if you're so inclined. I'm no Jarret Keene but I do alright with the words. LOL I'm not a Writer, nor am I a Photographer. I'm just a music fan who wants to let people know about all the cool things that go on here in Vegas, and to give you an opinion on things I know about and observe, that's all. Take it or leave it, I don't give a fuck. Anyways, yeah, the Madness show review is the 1st one of the year that I've made public. I write lots of them, but I don't publish them because they're just gonna cause Drama with whatever band I'm critiquing, and really I just can't be bothered. I got better shit to do. Too many people take what I write seriously. It's pretty funny. Everything is updated. New stuff added, old stuff taken off. I fixed the Videos page and linked everything up to my YouTube channel, which you can find by clicking here. I made Public some videos that I had no info on or didn't hear back from the band about, like the Pigasus @ the Cheyenne video, the Dirty Panties @ Vamp'd video, The People's Whiskey @ Motor City Cafe and a few others I can't remember about right now. Anyways, they are all linked up and available on the newly updated Videos page, and you can click right here to check all of those out. It's a nice way to spend an afternoon at work, or so I'm told... heh heh. I gotta get ready for band practice. Go to that Deer Tick gig @ the Aruba tonight to support Zach Ryan & The Renegades, a bunch of cool guys that now feature Danny, the Prince of Drummers, on keyboards. He may have to relinquish that title pretty soon if this keyboards thing keeps up... heh heh heh
Hahahahaha! Not only did we have fun at the Curl Up And Die show last night at the Crystal Palace (click here to read all about that) but it's Roxie's B-Day as well! Call the Club House or me to find out what the fuck we're gonna be doing tonight! Cheers!
Death comes ripping. I know this and you know this. Death comes in many shapes and sizes, whether it's the death of a friendship or the death of a friend, in either case it sucks and all you can do is deal with it the best you can. Right now I'm up to my elbows in death, and I gotta tell ya, it's a major downer. On the one hand, I'm glad that one particular person is Dead To Me, but on the other hand I gotta question why someone that I've known for years just up and died. He was a good dude and was gonna come out to see us play when we were in CA., and now he's gone. I knew him since Jr. High school, and he was happy that I was still "hardcore punk" (his words) and doing what I love to do. Phooey. And a friend of mine right here in town was given the Last Rights on Saturday, and luckily he pulled through but still... he's gonna die, it's just a matter of time. The last time we hung out he called me a "ROCKSTAR" and was happy that the band was doing so good. We drank and had a good laugh or 2. I fucking hate having my friends pass away and feeling like this, but I guess this is what they call being a grown up, right? Right. And as they say, life goes on. The Loud Pipes refuse to die, despite the shenanigans of certain psycho bitches, and we're gonna rock the fuck out of AZ. when we get there. I'll be doing it cuz I can, and for my friends who have passed away, and I encourage all of you not to take your friends for granted. You never know when they'll be leaving you, so enjoy them while you can. Oh yeah, I think I can finally tell you the first of the 3 legendary U.K. bands that we're playing with - Friday April 30 with The Business! Woo Hoo! And we're playing with our good friends Infestshit who are also on the bill. (See, I told you we'd play a show together!) All you working class Oi! people better polish your boots and break out your braces cuz this show promises to be a fun filled evening indeed. I'll give ya more details as I get them and oh yeah, FUCK THE SMOOTHIE KING! It's war baby, so ask me or Roxie for the details. And I don't think we're doing the Curl Up And Die - Terror show, since we can't find a place that wants to hold it, so now all you hardcore kids will just have to bitch and complain about how there's no good shows here in town when in reality it's your fault that places won't hold gigs. Sad but true.
Wowsers ! We sure do have a lot of shows and stuff going on with the band. After a quick update from Miss Roxie I can tell you the following things.
1. A guy from Thrasher Magazine e-mailed the Club House to tell us that they're doing a CD Review on us and that they're printing a Review on a show we played there with Deadbolt a few months back. And if that wasn't awesome enough, they also want to interview us before our show on April 15 @ Ziggy's in Tempe. What a deal. I for one am HYPED !!!
2. We're gonna be playing a show with Curl Up And Die and Terror on April 23 @ The Crystal Palace Skate Rink that I guarantee won't get broken up by The Man, so everyone please come out and check out these 2 great bands and then us...heh heh heh.
3. I think we're gonna be playing @ Rumor's in North Hollywood on April 24 (Roxie's B-Day) and then on the 25th we're going to the opening of the Twilight Zone ride @ California Theme Park ! Special thanks to Caveman for hooking that up.
4. All of the above is on top of our other shows coming up, like the 3 pending shows with some legendary U.K. bands, and the Tour we're going on with The Half Empties, plus the show on June 24 with Defiance. And in the midst of all this gigging we're supposed to finish up the 7" and print up a shitload of merch and keep our wits about us. Yeah right. Like that will ever happen.
5. I don't think we're going to be playing @ Smoothie King anytime soon. They were busting our nuts over our guarantee. It seems their policy is that they don't pay bands to play there, but yet the bands themselves have to pay to play. We told them if they don't pay us that we don't play. They had Brendan from Absent Minded call Roxie to try to get us to play for free, and when that didn't work they had SOMEONE in N.Y.C. call the Club House claiming to be the "Smoothie King's Business Partner" try to talk us into playing for free. We asked them to send us some paperwork on this great charity that all the proceeds go to, and of course they never sent a thing, so phooey.
We're working on a totally gay new song, and we're gonna try to have it ready for the upcoming AZ. shows, and even though Jesse The Super Roadie didn't get us those Darkness tickets he was supposed to, we're still gonna have fun when we get there. My liver hurts at the thought. See ya at the shows on Sat.
YES! The drum tracks are done! Me and Jesse tracked them in a few hours time, and although we kept nothing that was recorded on the first takes, what we captured on tape sounds killer, if I do say so myself, and I do, since this is my web site, and I'll say what the fuck ever I want, dig? You young kids get off on your Friendster / Face The Jury / Dreambooks shite... I get off on my web site, so sue me. I finally got around to reading the currently ongoing novella on Airbag, and all I gotta do is laugh about it. We are playing the Punk Rock Prom this Saturday with The Mapes, so those of you smart enough not to go to Rancid should cruise by... just to see who dresses up "Punk Rock" and to see who dresses up 'Prom'. I'm wearing a suit myself... and maybe a pimp ass hat with a big feather in it... who knows. The site's format has been updated and made uniform... I posted some Pictures of Curl Up And Die from the Hella-Ween show... threw up a couple of the old Show Reviews... re-posted the With Honor and Thunderfist Pictures... and that's about it.
YES! Our trip to California was fun... except for the fact that Pitt drives like an old Jewish woman! All we did was eat tacos for breakfast, lunch and dinner... read... sleep... eat candy and bullshit. Our Treasure Hunt came up with a beautiful 32 track 1 inch tape machine... which means that now we should be sounding like the Rock And Roll Nightmare that we are! I mean, Ry Cooder recorded on this machine, ya know? He's a stickler for good sounding equipment, so if he likes it, that means it's a good fucking machine! We're gonna be beginning our new rehearsal space project sometime this week... and we're practicing real hard with Tony to get a great sounding set for our Halloween show with Curl Up And Die... and Roxie mentioned another show that The Loud Pipes will be playing at The Troubadour in Hollywood on Dec. 14... should be fun! Oh yeah... in case you didn't notice... I bought a new digital camera the other day! Woo Hoo! This thing is so sick! I take Pictures of everything now... and the quality is simply AMAZING! Click here to see for yourself... that is, if the Pictures are loading up properly... I hate the way my web site / Pictures load up, but I still have no idea how to use DreamWeaver, so until then... I guess you'll all just have to bear with me please.... thank you... and remember... it's all about the PARTY DUUUUUUUDE !!! heh heh heh
To say that last night was just fun would be doing it a grave injustice... last night was THE BEST!!! Our new singer Tony pulled through like a champ, and everyone was really impressed with him. To do what he did in the short time we had to work with him was simply amazing. Cheers to you bro, and to many more shows just like this one! Someone told Pitt that the show was filmed for the Nicole Sligar show Your Underground, and I'd love to see the footage... I wonder if you could even see us through all the fog that Schwab had going on around us while we played! You would of thought by the crowd's reaction and by the strobe lights and fog machine that we were the headliners! And I do think that we had a bigger / better pit than either the $wingin' Utter$ / Youth Brigade did, but it could have been the booze though. Uhmm... other than that... we got a new shirt design for the Halloween show with Curl Up And Die ... we might be doing an un-announced secret show somewhere in the City and now we're gonna focus on getting a proper demo done. Hopefully Tony isn't as hard to work with as Bryan was! heh heh heh
The Psychedelic Furs show was pretty fun... only because it was a band outing, not for the crappy music the band was playing. We've been working really hard on trying to get our shit together before the Youth Brigade / $wingin' Utter$ show... we've been practicing until like 4 in the morning every fucking day! Our new singer Tony is working out sooooo good it's not even funny. It's like he's one of us, ya know? Hanging out with the guy just assured it. We're going to be printing up some new merch this week, as well as trying to see how many more PA speakers we can cram into our practice space! Roxie was totally right about that damn Sonic The Hedgehog game stopping productivity... now that we've discovered the Dr. Mario-type game on it... we'll never get anything done! I also added the Curl Up And Die Pictures from Utah...
OK... while my personal life is disintegrating into nothing, on the band front we're doing OK I guess. We just finished playing 2 great shows with Curl Up And Die and after the next upcoming shows the search for a new singer begins. I'm totally happy that the split with Bryan is amicable... we ask A LOT from our singers, and it's not that easy to dedicate your life to this band 24-7... and add the fact that everyone in this band is an asshole and it doesn't help... LOL. Lots of people have stated that they wanna try out, so who knows? Our motto has always been that we always improve with changes no matter what, but jeesh... what does it take to get a kick ass singer in this town? Show Reviews are up... I haven't been reviewing anything CD wise 'cuz all I've been listening to is Johnny Cash... but I feel better now... I don't mourn the loss... I celebrate the Life. Uhhhm... more to come later?
