This could be the best news I hear all year.
3 charged in 1998 skinhead killings outside Vegas By KEN RITTER Associated Press
LAS VEGAS -- Three people identified as white supremacists were indicted Wednesday on capital murder and weapons charges in what a federal prosecutor described as execution-style ambush slayings of two skinhead group members who advocated racial tolerance.
Authorities said an investigation that took more than 13 years led to the charges against Melissa Hack and her brother Ross Hack, who could face the death penalty if convicted. A third person, Leland Jones, faces charges including aiding and abetting a crime of violence and committing a crime on federal land.
Jones was 17 at the time of the killings on Independence Day weekend 1998, so he could face a maximum of life in prison without parole if convicted.
Melissa Hack, 35, and Jones, now 31, pleaded not guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Carl Hoffman, who ordered both held in federal custody pending trial in May.
Ross Hack, 40, is serving time at a federal prison in Arizona on an unrelated federal passport fraud conviction. His appearance date wasn't immediately set.
The slayings of Lin Newborn, 24, and his friend and Air Force member, Daniel Shersty, 20, drew national attention on a subculture of moderates within a group usually considered extremist and united by hatred of non-whites.
Bliss said prosecutors will show that the Hack siblings and Jones were affiliated with a neo-Nazi white supremacist group when they committed what she termed as a "deliberate, premeditated, heinous" double-homicide involving two handguns and a shotgun and "driven by racial hatred."
One of the men was left wounded "to linger and die," Bliss told the judge, while the other was chased across the desert and shot to death.
Attorneys Brent Bryson and Gabriel Grasso, representing Melissa Hack, and James Hartsell for Jones, tried to convince the judge to let their clients remain free pending trial. Hoffman deemed them a flight risk and a threat to the community.
The lawyers declined to comment outside the courtroom.
Melissa Hack was the girlfriend of white supremacist John "Polar Bear" Butler, a former leader of the Independent Nazi Skins and the only person previously charged in the case.
Butler, now 40, was convicted in state court in 2001 of murder and other charges, and was initially sentenced to death. His sentence was later reduced, and he is serving a life without parole in at a state prison in Indian Springs, about 45 miles north of Las Vegas.
Shersty, who was white, was from Lake Mary, Fla., and was stationed at Nellis Air Force near Las Vegas. Newborn, who was black, was a body piercing artist in Las Vegas. Prosecutors say they belonged to a group known as the Anti-Racist Action Group, sometimes dubbed Skinheads against Racial Prejudice.
Bliss said the two were lured by Melissa Hack and another woman into the desert on a ruse and shot dead by Butler, Ross Hack and Jones the night before their bodies were found on July 4, 1998, federal land north of Las Vegas.
14 years... Holy Shit Ballz. Doesn't seem that long ago at all, but thinking about it now, it seems like a whole different time and place for a whole different world I used to live in. Revenge is a Dish that is Best served cold. If you don't believe in Karma, than maybe you should re-evaluate your Beliefs. Fuck these pieces of shit. I hope they all get the chair, or lethal injection, or at least a long, miserable life full of suffering, misery and strife behind bars. Spit and I butted heads on all sorts of things, mostly Egos and Punk Rock related, but what happened to him has never sat well with me. I don't know if him and Danny are finally getting Justice, but it's nice to see that some of those responsible are getting what's coming to them. That thought makes me break out into a big ass grin. Maybe now Spit and Danny can finally rest in peace. Lord knows they deserve at least that.
Gosh! So much going on I've been sorely slacking on website shit. Did you see this yet? The Cool In Vegas website with the video about the Local Las Vegas Music Scene, featuring Roxie, Bob Mandoki, some dude from that Vegas Cocks! magazine, and with music by the Scoundrels, Drainage X and the Peccadilloes playing in the background? Click here if you haven't seen it yet. Overall it's pretty good, but to hear one of the Interviewee's spew on about how the Beauty Bar is a great, intimate place for bands to play is a joke. Obviously he doesn't listen to the bands while they're playing there, because if he did, he would notice they sound like wet dog shit in a paper cup. Oh well. Still a cool video. Check it out.The amazing photos that Jesse "The Super Photographer/Roadie" Nabers took of the Loud Pipes glorious return to the Double Down can be viewed by clicking here. And if you haven't read the little blurb the Weekly said about the night, just click here. I like that the girl reporter for that shitty mag interviewed us for like 20 minutes and only 2 lines of anything we said was put in the paper, and even those were taken out of context, misquoted; not being what we said at all... hee hee hee Oh Journalists, you are a funny, funny lot. :-) Depending on whom you ask about it, the Dead Kennedys show @ the Hard Rock Cafe was either an epic event of humongous proportions, or a sad public display of a dead horse flogging. :-) And to think, I got chastised for commenting on how sad it was that the Jerry Only Experience drew hundreds of more people than the East Bay Ray Experience did! LOL And yeah, after the gig, East Bay Ray was hanging out at the Double Down, where I'm willing to venture that more people saw him there than at the Hard Rock Cafe - Ohh SNAPS!! hahahaha Just kidding of course. As long as you had fun at the gig, that's all that matters. How great was that Raiders / Chargers game yesterday, huh? hahahaha I will spare you all the details of how I had to convince a few die hard Raiders fans that we indeed had a chance to beat the Chargers, and after being proven right by the 1st quarters end, the feeling of satisfaction that I'm still walking around with can't be beat. :-) I'm not saying we're playoff bound, but man, with our 4-0 division record, anything is possible, and stranger things have happened - GO RAIDERS!! Tonight I'm staying home and watching the Sharks / Red Wings game. I'm hoping for revenge for our 5-3 loss to them earlier. I'm gonna be trying to catch up on website stuff, so keep your eyes peeled for new things popping up on here. Hopefully.
Hey! Through the magic of the Internet I just found out that the Apocalyptics are playing @ the Double Down tonight with the Shakes and Season Of The Nightmare. Go out and support a great band that deserves it, in a place that I wouldn't be caught dead in... heh heh
I just added a shitload of upcoming gigs to the Gig Calendar page, stuff like, oh, I dunno, Youth Brigade, Zeke, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Voodoo Glow Skulls (now moved to the Beauty Bar... UGH!), Fu Manchu, the Adicks, CH3, the Pixies, Agent Orange, Angry Samoans, D.I., that American Carnage Tour with Slayer / Anthrax / Megadeth (siiiiiiiiiick) and lots and lots of Local gigs too. Check it out and plan accordingly. Interesting things are a brewing, that's for sure. ;-)
So you probably noticed the tiny changes I've made to the website. It all came about after checking out my website on a few different computers and analyzing the data from those of you who come here to check this shit out. What looked good on my 19" flat screen monitor just wasn't happening on someone's 15" monitor set to a 800 x 600 resolution. Not that this layout does either, but it helps out a little bit with the viewing. I posted the Show Review of Tsar - The Black Jetts - Suite 666 @Matteo's Underground Lounge, and you can go here to check it out. Michelle took some great Pictures of us in action and you can go here to check those out. We did our first Interview (for Smash Magazine) after practice last night, so keep an eye out for us in their "Up and Coming Bands" section. I'd like to think that our Interview came out better than the Luv-Taps did, but I could be wrong. I mean...we were pretty drunk. Apologies to all the bands who have been bugging me to check out their shows or to Interviewthem. I'm gonna get around to doing them all...just give me some time. 50 people at a Death By Stereo show? Basically nobody @ the Dead Kennedys show? (like that's surprising? They were giving away those tickets by the handful on various websites and shows around town and still couldn't get anyone to go) What the hell is going on? I guess what the problem is is that these promoters in town have to get a fucking clue and start doing more to support the local scene here in town. Quit putting the same 3 bands on the bill and if you promise a band that they can have the opening slot, keep your word and give it to them. Is that so hard to do? Apparently so. The only place actually doing something for the scene is The Cooler Lounge (God bless Rick H.). They will book any type of music (they were doing rap shows long before Revenge Therapy weaseled their way into that market) and they support and treat the musicians like equals, not like commodities. Rick has been booking Thrash / Metal bands there for a while, and now I hear that Moss @ the Double Down wants to start booking those type of shows as well. Fuck I despise Moss. Him and his Drinking Sperm With Moss TV show can both suck a dick. Anyways, there's a shit load of Music Reviews posted (The Black Jetts, New York Dolls, The Lucky Stiffs, Thinking Aloud, Les Hell On Heels, New Order, Two Man Advantage, Queens Of The Stone Age) and you can go here to check that shit out. Suite 666 finished recording our 4 song demo in one day and the word is that it sounds great. Special hugs, kisses and beer soaked bratwursts to Joe C. for hooking that up and putting up with our shenanigans. The last band I was in took 4 months just to finish 4 songs, so imagine my shock when we finished them all in one day. That's how it's supposed to be done. The White Stripesrecorded their album in 2 weeks. We'll probably do the same. Anyways, we're booking our West Coast tour and various weekend jaunts out to AZ. and CA. so keep your eyes peeled for those. Thanks to everyone that's been signing up to the Suite 666 Myspace group (the link can be found below) and hello to all the new friends of mine that have joined up to the onethirtyeight.org myspace group. I've been doing this website for 3 years now, and I don't see an end in sight. Oh yeah, some cool Interviews coming up with some kick ass local bands.Ballerina Backwards is my new favorite local band...just thought you should know...heh heh heh
I'm not really sure why we ended up drinking at The Cheyenne Saloon last night. Maybe it was because we ended our costume shopping run at Savers... maybe it was because we all had never been there before. In any case, we watched the end of the World Series game and played pool and drank Newcastle's and Jagermeister all by our selves while pumping the juke box full of our eclectic musical tastes... AC/DC... Bauhaus... Johnny Cash... Dead Kennedys... Abba, and Guns 'N' Roses. I'll leave it to you to figure out who listens to what. But we did get our costumes together... had a nice little dinner... and just had a good time hanging out with each other, taking a break from our practice schedule... and just having FUN!
