So I get this call at like 3 in the morning from a really good friend of mine, who was a bit shaken up after dealing with the Police and Paramedics. Her boyfriend had just beaten her up pretty badly, and she was in a bit of a state of shock. She said she called me because she knew I would be up at that time in the morning. I talked her off the ledge she was on, calming her down and assuring her that everything was going to be OK, and just did my best to be there for her in her time of need. Catch me on a good day and I'm the greatest guy in the world. Catch me on a bad day and apparently I'm an asshole - or a prophet. ;-)
Is it Thursday yet? LOL I'm anxiously awaiting Game 1 of the Playoffs and to see Deadhand. :-) They're playing that crazy ass Ignite gig this Saturday, but I can't go to that gig because I'm gonna be at Madness that night, so I'm gonna sneak into the Double Clown tomorrow and see them and then get the Hell out of that sullied establishment. After all, I can't have my stellar reputation degenerate any lower than it already is, now can I?
Yeah, I'm totally gheying out on my 80's weekend but I don't care. There is other stuff going on, like this cool Seriouslys gig @ the Motor City Cafe on Friday night, and, yeah, like I said earlier, that Ignite gig on Saturday. Guilty By Association, the Happy Campers and Deadhand are opening. That gig is gonna be FUN! Steel Pulse is playing the Silverton on Sat. too. Man I'd love to see them, but I got a better chance of seeing them again sometime soon than I do of seeing Madness here ever again. Wasn't the last time in 1998 @ the Texas?? I know I was there... sort of... ha ha ha Whatever. There's that interesting gig @ the Bunkhouse on Sunday with The People's Whiskey, Holding Onto Sound, the Hard Pipe Hitters and some band called The Horn Prayer from Colorado. I just might check that out. :-) Anyways, everything is updated. Pictures of Nests @ the Arts Factory and The People's Whiskey @ the Motor City Cafe were just added. Click here and here to check those out. The weather has been beautiful as of late. It's Springtime. Time to start planning road trips, right? Right!
Ha ha ha ha Don't worry, I'm coming back... maybe! ;-)
Still no Internet, still updating from my phone. Oh well. Congrats to Deadhand, The Quitters, and Holding On To Sound for making the trek out to Tejas to play the SXSW schmooze fest. It's cool that Local bands make the commitment to get out there and play. Wish I was in a band that could do that... hint hint
Kick ass gig tomorrow at the Bunkhouse. You should go, because I'm not. Plus, Larry is moving to L.A. in a few weeks, so this is one of the last gigs for Life's Torment and all the other bands he plays in for awhile. Vegas is losing a cool guy with this one, but I'm happy for him moving to L.A. and doing whatever it is he's gonna be doing out there, like putting out records and playing in bands and all that fun stuff. Lucky bastard. Guilty By Association and Unfair Fight are also playing. Support
Today's the day. San Francisco here I come. See you all when I get back. Cheers! :-)
Dudes! It's Super Bowl Sunday morning, and I could give 2 shits less about the game than ever. No Raiders = No Interest for me. I don't know jack shit about the Giants, and I fucking hate the New England Gaytriots, which is the only reason why I'd like to see New York win. No, today for me is all about the get together, the excuse to party with Friends both old and new and the Family members I hold near and dear here in Las Vegas. I'm sure I'll be texting away with my Family back Home on the Rez, but that's another story for another time. ;-) The celebration starts @ 3 pm. Casa de Amoroso. if you don't know then too bad for you.
After the Game, if you can avoid the D.U.I. checkpoints that will be up everywhere all around the city, head downtown to the Bunkhouse to see Banner Pilot with Deadhand, TheCore, Holding On To Sound and Murder Majesty, if ya can believe that. Yeah, apparently they're still a band and yeah, Pulsar gave them the slot on the bill instead of my band. Phooey. Anyways, it should be a good gig and you shouldn't miss it, although being too drunk and wasted to make it down there is perfectly acceptable. It is Super Bowl Sunday after all... heh heh
The Bronx are playing a Special 'Invite Only' gig next week and you can't go. I'm just saying... ;-)
Everything is updated (I think). Have a great day. Go Giants! Fuck the cheating Gaytriots!! I hope Tom Brady get's Theismann'd during the game. If he does, remember that you read it here first! ;-)
If I have to hear one more dooshbag football announcer say how "The Bills are for Real", or that "It's time to Bill-ieve", I think I'm gonna puke. Buffalo got majorly lucky catching Tom Brady on what was possibly the worst game of his career. Fucking Bastards. Fuck you Canadian Bills. And again, Fuck You Danny!! Enjoy it while it lasts motherfucker!!! hahahahahahahahahahahaha The Raiders looked good yesterday in beating the Jets. Sanchez had no time to be eating no hot dogs on the sideline this game... heh heh heh. People are calling it an upset. I never had doubt, but that's just me. I think the Raiders can beat anyone on any day, New England, our next opponent included. They're gonna be scary good once they get their starting receivers back. McFadden - leading rusher in the NFL - Yup! :-) And if this doesn't illustrate how out of control the Refs are in the NFL right now I don't know what does. Click here to watch the video. Where was the hold? Seriously?Criminal Trespassing? Vandalism? Really? Wowsers. You have GOT to be kidding me!!! I'm still waiting for some verification / proof, but if it's true, I'll be ecstatic to have been right about that idiot and his shitty ass Metal club. The last night of Deadhand's month long residency @ the Hypnotic Lounge came to an intimate end this past Saturday, in front of a group of Friends and Fans which ran the gamut from under age, over age, and middle age. I'll leave it to you to guess which one I was! ;-) hahahaha Deadhand played an amazing set, as always, but it was a bit awkward to see Brendan struggle with playing The Cowboy Song by Thin Lizzy, a song he's obviously bored to tears playing. Yuck. Playing covers sucks - trust me I know! hahaha Aluminum Falcon played some Descendents covers, which, of course, sucked, because we hadn't practiced them in a little while, but I think they came out OK. Bikeage and I'm The One I think. We played them for the Punk Rock kids that I saw at the last Deadhand gig @ Yayo Taco. They had come out to support, and they were jumping around and slam dancing while we played. Rad. Holding On To Sound sounded great from the outside of the Hypnotic Lounge, where I think there was more people outside just chatting and chilling than there were inside checking out the band playing. Booooooooooooooooooooooo. Oh well. There was Skittles outside. :-) It was still a fun as fuck night, with the gig ending early Da Falcon flew around the Naked City after dropping off the band equipment in search of Food, Music, Drugs, Drink, Debauchery and Guys with eye patches. We were successful on all counts. ;-) Friday night I was hanging outside of the Bikini Bar, enjoying a nice Chicago style Polish sandwich combo that I had scored from the Sausage Fest food truck, fighting off the urge to go to that Pussycat's strip club and get into trouble when my partner in crime George strolled up. After he made fun of me for eating and not drinking we ventured inside for beers and Babilos, a band that I've always promoted but never seen before, and now that I have, I gotta say they were pretty good. Old school Big 4 Metal ala early Metallica and Slayer played by a scary looking group of hombres who were either Mexican, or Indian, or Filipino or a combination thereof, just pulverizing the crowd with their brooootaaal ass Metal music. They brought out a lot of people, a lot of really good looking people, like, chicks in club attire and the Jersey Shore types they attract, who all immediately left after Babilos was done blowing the roof off the joint. Sad to see but whatever. Poor Tinglerz played right after them to a virtually empty room, which always sucks. It didn't deter them from playing a great set though, but it just would of been nice if there would of been a few more people there to see it. Six Shooters To The Sky fared a little better in the opening slot, they had a few Friends there checking them out, and after watching them play I was a bit peeved that they broke up in the first place. They are sooooooooooo fucking good!! I don't remember them being that good, but then again, I can't remember the last time I saw them before Friday. University Theater? Slanted Clam? I dunno, but it's been too long. I hope they keep it together and do something with this. I was talking to them all before they played, and I asked them why they broke up, and they all gave different answers but all typical band shit - Sex, Drugs, Money, Drama. When I asked them why they got back together they couldn't give me an answer. But it was Liz, the bass playing Goddess, who after their set came up to me and said You know why we got back together? Honestly? It was because we were bored. That sentiment is the reason a lot of the great bands did it, and Six Shooters To The Sky may become one of the great Vegas bands, that is, if they don't kill each other first. Great little gig @ the Bikini Bar last Friday. That place needs some drink specials though... OK. I've on babbled long enough. Everything's updated, new Pictures of Unfair Fight, Tinglerz and Deadhand from their gig @ Hypnotic Lounge a while back are up, and I'm just getting around to doing those Motor City Cafe photos, which started off with the Seriouslys. Those chicks are kick ass and you should check them out whenever you get the chance. Lots of stuff coming up this weekend, so check out the Gig Calendar page and plan accordingly. I think I'm gonna go grab a pastrami sandwich. :-)
I live for gigs like that one last night. I really do. Small, intimate things with a handful of Friends in attendance, glorified practices really, and the vibe is just so relaxed, stress free, I dunno, something. The Bands are basically playing for each other and the 2 or 3 other idiots in attendance who have nothing better to do than to come out and check out some bands they've never heard of, on the slim chance that one of them might be worth remembering and maybe worth scrounging some change together to buy some merch off of the band to help their gas funds to get them to the next gig. Yeah, that's what last nights gig @ Yayo Taco was all about, and I loved every minute of it. I only made the effort to see Deadhand, who I am currently obsessed with, but seeing a band like Razorhoof just throw down the sickness with their Neurosis / Eyehategod Noise not Music was worth the $5 admission donation price alone. Click here to check out the bands Facebook page. And what's up with the new changes to the layout of Facebook? Can you say, LAME!! hahahaha Smooth Sailing were pretty good too, in a Refused / At The Drive In kind of way, shaking the walls of Yayo Taco loose with their double bass playing musical onslaught. Click here to check their Facebook page out and become their Friend. And I finally got to see G.P.B., who are just the cutest bunch of Punk kids ever! They're like a cross between Rancid and the Casualties, and every one of their songs is, uhhhmmm, how should I put this, "inspired", by bands like the Dead Boys, Sham 69 and the 4-Skins. They played a NOFX cover that never changed tempo once, even though it was supposed to... heh heh heh. Deadhand played a NOFX cover too, Linoleum, and had some random Punk kid sing it and lose his shit while doing so. His buddy helped out on backup vocals too... rad. It was cute and awesome at the same time. Totally laid back night @ Yayo Taco. You should of been there. You missed out. :-) Tomorrow night Pigasus is playing at the Beauty Bar for some reason, but I couldn't find shit on Facebook about it. I thought it was for something about tattoos or some shit, but who knows. Friday night Danny, The Prince of Drummers, is putting on a show at the place he works at, the Bikini Bar, that he's calling The Clash Of The Scenes, and it's featuring the Tinglerz, Six Shooters To The Sky and Babilos, and you can click here to check out all the info about it on the Facebook event page for it. Isn't Facebook wonderful? Takes all the effort out of promoting a gig! LOL And everybody is complaining about the new Facebook layout but I dunno, I like it. It works for me and simplifies everything. Whatever. And don't forget about this gig happening @ the Hypnotic Lounge this Saturday. It should be a night of Local Music Sexiness!!!! Deadhand, Aluminum Falcon and Holding Onto Sound. I was told that Dead Neon dropped off... Booooooooooooo. See ya there! XOXOXOXOXO Robots are SEXXXY!! <3
If I was staying in town, I'd be be checking out some of the kick ass gigs happening this weekend. That Riverboat Gamblers / Deadhand / Holding On To Sound / Dead To Me gig @ the Bunkhouse tonight is going to be AMAZING! I plan on being ballz deep in a cleansing, hallucinogenic world of my own accord at about the same time the gig is happening, so drink a few for me, will ya? Saturday I'd have to be at that Swenson St. 4th of July on Labor Day party with the Apocalyptics and the Seriouslys and the Scoundrels, and then afterwards I'd be avoiding that D.U.I. check point that's gonna be on Tropicana / Paradise to head downtown to see Pigasus and the Tinglerz playing with Flexx Bronco @ the Beauty Bar. Then if I wasn't in jail the next day, I'd be standing around with all of the other Poseurs @ Yayo Taco for that Bloody Phoenix / Alarido / Equal Opportunity Destroyer / Die Laughing gig, and then once that was over I'd head to Meathead's to see the Quitters with Confused Little Girl, who are all the way from Orlando, FLA. But I mean, shit, there's other gigs happening too, like Deadhand & The Akashic Record @ Hypnotic on Sat., or even that gig in Pahrump with Reel Big Fish / Guilty By Association (who's playing drums???) / Haleamano and Tuesday After School on Sunday. When it rains it pours with Gigs here in Las Vegas. Either they're all happening at the same time on the same day, or they're not happening at all. Phooey. If I was in town this weekend, I'd have a lot of deciding to do.
But I'm not. Instead, I'll be here on Friday...
It's been 40 years already... Wowsers... Yup! Back Home amongst the trees and more drunk than any man should ever be, I will be lost in a fog of Singing, Dancing, Drinking, Drugging and Eating until my face falls off permanently stuck in an Idiot Grin. I'm hoping I live to tell the tale but if I don't, that's cool too. I'm at peace with it. :-) Pow Wow's RULE!!
Oh, but I will be tearing myself away on Saturday to be at this gig in La Mirada. It's Youth Gone Mad / The Backdoor Preachers / Death On The Radio and the Blabber Mouths. I have no idea about any of the other bands but it really doesn't matter. It's going to be interesting. I get to see some dear old Friends, jam on some Tunes, and most importantly, support a really worthwhile cause. If you're in the area, stop on by! I would Love to see you...
I'm a sucker for any cause that sells Cupcakes to raise funds! <3 Yeah, I can't wait to feel the Love! L-U-V! Crash out in Whittier, grab some Pizzamania for the road and then it's back to the Rez for the remainder of the Pow Wow. Sunday night is the best night, because that's when they award all the prize money to the winner's of all the different dancing competitions, so you see some amazing footwork going on out there, and then the 49 afterwords is always the best, because most people split and can't hang and only the true Hardcore can make it through that. Again, if you're in the San Diego area and wish to feel threatened by standing amongst a bunch of Mad, Drunken Indians just looking for a reason to do anything that includes Violence, then please stop by and hang out with me. I'll be the Drunk Punk passed out in the Tree. Seriously. Everything's updated. I added the Pictures of that band The Lips that I mentioned in my last post, and by the time I go Live with this posting I'll probably have finished those Pictures I have of The People's Whiskey, so look for that somewhere on here. I got all sorts of shit to put up here, like Videos, a whole shitload of Music Reviews, and a bunch more Pictures, but I just don't got the time. I did the math while chatting up some Bird recently, and I told her I was in 6 bands, but in reality it's 8 - 4 that are actively gigging, and 4 that are just sort-of Projects. The rehearsal schedule is maddening, to say the least. I don't know how I got into this position, and I'm not sure if it's the best thing for me to be doing, but you know what? I'm having fun, and in the long run, that's all that matters. I'm gonna be on Vacation for a bit, obviously, but I'll be back soon. Maybe. Hopefully... heh heh Have a Great Weekend! :-)
Hey! I have a working website again! LOL
RollerCon is in town, and there's shit jumping off all over the place this weekend! Tomorrow night there are some great gigs happening around town, like Sloka @ the Double Down, Deadhand @ the Beauty Bar, and the Departures (straight outta Jersey!), Holding Onto Sound, the Quitters and Battle Born @ Yayo Taco, but the best place to be is Casa de Amoroso for Danny, the Prince of Pinche Drummers B-Day extravaganza! Bring your swimming outfits and some CAKE or something else to eat because this one may be going all night long! hahaha Happy Birthday Sir! keg Stands will be mandatory this evening! :-)
If you're still alive on Sat. and not in jail, the place to be that night is the Toxic Holocaust, Blatant, F.S.U., Krum Bums and Dead Neon gig @ the Bunkhouse. It should be an interesting gig to say the least. The Tinglerz are also playing that night @ the Motor City Cafe, so if you're not @ the Double Down trying to pick up on chubby drunk roller girls then you should be at 1 of those 2 gigs. Remember, going to see a band won't give you a disease. Maybe... heh heh
Sunday it's all about Deadhand, Signals Midwest and TheCore at Hypnotics, and if you're up early enough you can stop by there and catch Ministry Of Love with Broken End Stereo and a few other bands playing an All Ages gig for the kids. Oh, and Monday, the Black Jetts and the Tinglerz are playing @ the Bunkhouse with Unko Atama from S.F., so yeah, like I said, it's gonna be a busy weekend - hope to see you all somewhere!
 Best. Flyer. EVER!!! :-)
Fuck the Warped Tour. Seriously. I'm glad that Battle Born is playing it and all that, but gawd damn is that shitty lineup some of the WORST bands I've ever heard of in my Life. It's no wonder that only dooshbag chicks, ghey ass scene kids, and Hank! are hyped about it happening today... hahaha That was a joke. Sarcasm. Not meant to be taken seriously. I'm talking to you Pulsar and Jarrett...After band practice I usually grab Mr. Wizard and look to veg out / chillax in front of my big ass computer monitor on anything but music, like reading about the differences between serial killers and mass murderers or watching videos on YouTube about how to make ebelskivers. In any case, I always find cool stuff out there, like this teaser about the new Jesus Lizard Club DVD that's coming out in Aug. Seeing David Yow work the crowd gives me the shivers. That dude is psychotic and frightening. I cannot wait to get my paws on that DVD. Jesus Lizard is one of the greatest bands I ever saw live. Seeing them destroy this seedy little dive bar called the Shamrock in Hollywood on a Thursday night is something I will never forget. It was scarier than anything I ever saw GG Allin do, that's for damn sure. Saw them at Club Lingerie, Raji's, the Palladium... what the Hell was I thinking back then? LOL Oh, to be Young and Stupid again...
Speaking of bands I saw a lot back in the Daze, Jane's Addiction have a new album coming out pretty soon that I'm hyped about, especially after seeing the video of them performing in Brazil or some crappy place like that, debuting songs off their upcoming release down there. Well, one of the songs they played, End To The Lies, is the first single off the new album called The Great Escape Artist, and this is the official video for it. Do you remember when videos used to be watched on T.V., and not on the Internet? Yeah, me too... womp womp womp womp. Cue the sad trombone! hahaha Yeah, I'm always gonna have a soft spot in my heart for those guys, just like I'm always gonna have a soft spot in my heart for puppets, explosions, fire, cartoony violence and face shredding Metal, and all of those can be found in this Mastodon video from the Adult Swim channel for an unreleased song called Deathbound. Why on there? I don't know. All I know is that it's a great song and I love watching this video... heh heh heh
And what does all of this have to do with Las Vegas or Punk Rock? Well, the answer is, NOTHING! hahahaha Except for a few Birthdays that happened these past few days (Happy Birthday Bob! Happy Birthday Patty Cakes! Happy Birthday Ainjil! <3), it's been a pretty quiet week. Band practice is killing me and I could care less. I'm getting comfortable with the loss of movement I'm gradually building up. ;-) 4th of July weekend is here, and besides this awesome Wedding party gig with the Loud Pipes / The Southside Gashers / The Unidentified on Sat. @ Yayo Taco, there's other stuff going on as well.
I just hope there will be CAKE!! <3 You also have this pre-gig happening on Saturday afternoon with the Happy Campers and Surrounded By Thieves, going on right before the Face To Face / Strung Out gig @ the HOB. I saw this exact same Face To Face / Strung Out gig in Seattle when I was just there, and was bored to tears. Don't ask why I was there... heh heh
Sunday will be recovery day, and Monday is the 4th! What's everyone doing? Is the Annual Swenson Street 4th of July Party going down? Anybody know? Let me know if it is. I'll be at Casa Amoroso drinking fluids, charring dead flesh and blowing stuff up, and hopefully not choking on my own vomit in the front seat of my car like I almost did a while back! hahaha Have a great weekend! Good Luck to Guilty By Association on their upcoming Tour! Same with Holding On To Sound! Knock 'em dead guys!
Hey! It's Friday! Lots of stuff going on this weekend, like that Holding On To Sound gig happening @ the Gypsy Den tonight. They're going to play their first album in it's entirety, but since I don't have it, I can't tell you if that's a good thing or not! LOL I'm sure it will be pretty cool. TheCore are opening. I love those guys. If that's not your cup of tea, then you can head over to Talk Of The Town to see the Seriouslys and the Fremonts play in the parking lot there. Tell Treasure and Troy that I said Hi! <3 And for some cool Thomas Miller comic book artwork, head over to Jason from the Mapes new comic book store called Hellpop Comic Studios, located in the Arts Factory. Suite 222. Bring him booze and/or narcotics please. :-)
Saturday it's all about the Mighty Diamonds and Haleamano @ the Silverton. Yeah!! Pass The Koutchie! Afterwards if I'm not too out of it I'm gonna head over to the Beauty Bar to see KRS-ONE spit wicked hot fire. It's not very Punk Rock, I know, but if you wanna get your Punk Rocked and Rolled, then head over to see the Black Jetts rip shit up at the Double Down. Yup! Everything's updated. Have a great weekend. I know I will. :-)
"I feel sooo old right now." "Seeing all these kids here makes me feel old." "I have never felt more old than I have at this show tonight."
hee hee hee This sentiment seemed to be shared by everyone over the age of oh, I dunno, 25 I'm gonna say, and taking it all in was a bit of a laugh. The highly excitable contingent of Punk kids who came out to make the Guilty By Association 10th Anniversary gig the event that it was had the Vegas music scene Elders feeling every bit of their age apparently! And in that rare as fuck occurrence, I wasn't the oldest guy at the gig! LOL I think all the kids were there to see the opening band Permanent Failure, who were a bunch of young Punx playing some Casualties style of music. They massacred a Bad Religion song, but it was OK because at least it was off of How Could Hell Be Any Worse? LOL Holding Onto Sound are just incredible, and they added a second guitarist to assist in their sonic aural landscape painting. They sounded great and I could watch Vanessa play drums all day. Gawd damn she's good. Battle Born always impress the fuck out of me with their melodic face punches that had the kids inside Yayo losing their shit. They're such a good band it's sickening, and getting to watch Nick play drums is always a treat as well. Seeing Bob heckling him from behind the glass while he played was just an extra treat. ;-) Bingo Billy from Guilty By Association is fun to watch play drums too, and his brand new shiny black DW set was pretty sick sounding. I'd lose the rack though, because racks on drum sets is ghey. ;-) GBA brought the place down to it's knees with a rev'd up animated set that had everyone in the place feeding off of what the band was throwing down and making sure to keep the energy levels in the room maxed out into the dangerous red area, giving the kids something to bash into each other to, and keeping the old people standing off to the side and hiding in the back vying for a better vantage point to take it all in. Watching that guy in the wheelchair wrecking fools in the pit was funny as fuck. Man, it was a fantastic night. Guilty By Association have made it through thick and thin for 10 years, which is no small feat, and they should be commended as such. Anybody who's been in a band for any amount of time can tell you about how tedious and self destructive it is, and the fact that GBA is still here, still Gigging and Touring and Recording, says a whole Hell of a lot about the Love these guys have for the Music they create / play, and the Belief that they all have in the Band. Congrats to Guilty By Association on their 10th Anniversary. Let's hope Tom Jones holds on for another 10 more years! LOL
So how about that shooting @ Area 702 this past weekend? Of course, it happened at a Hip-Hop event, naturally. It's just like the Rock all over again. Remember that club the Rock on Maryland Parkway? Yeah, things were going just fine and dandy at that place with live Local music, and as soon as they started putting on those bullshit Hip-Hop and Rap gigs, then the place went to shit and was closed within weeks. Let's hope the same thing doesn't happen @ Area 702. Although I don't go to the gigs there, because most of the bands that play there SUCK, but at least it's an option for kids looking for something to do, in a town where those options are far and few in between.
Everything is sort of updated. I gotta go help set up a new P.A.. Later.
