Andy from Surrounded By Thieves sent me this flyer for his upcoming gig, and I post it up here to make a point. Bands, you need to promote! I hate turning down invites to gigs that I get sent 24 hours beforehand, usually because I've already made plans days or weeks ahead. And I definitely ain't gonna track down flyers to promote your gigs on my own time, so get off your apathetic asses and send that flyer you took a whole 3 minutes putting together out! LOL Facebook invites aren't the only way to spread the word about your upcoming gig. Stop being lazy. Promote! And go to this gig @ Yayo Taco next month with Surrounded By Thieves. ;-)
Rastafari! Haile Selassie! Praise Jah! :-) It's Tuesday, which just means more videos from Reggae In The Desert this past weekend! Woo hoo! Here's Mykal Rose performing the Black Uhuru classic Shine Eye Gal. The Man is smoooooooooooth personified. And here's another one from Freddie McGregor, performing a medley of some of his classic hits Let Him Try, Loving Pauper, and I Was Born A Leader. This is the Legendary Don Carlos performing Rude Boy (Go Easy). The Man still has some dance moves! ;-) The annoying bitch screaming couldn't be avoided. She was standing right next to me. My photo camera is broken, which is why I've been shooting nothing but video lately. I gotta find a place here in town that fixes cameras, although I'm really getting burned out on taking them. The limits of the format are getting to me. As of now, I like doing video more. It's a simpler, easily shareable, more accessible format that really allows you to get a feel of how the gig was and what it was all about. I bought a Sony HD Webbie camera back in 2009 and it sat unopened in a box on a shelf for over a year before I touched it. I have no idea why. My Brother Victor gave me a Flip camera for Christmas, telling me the website needed more videos on it, and I'm starting to embrace the idea. We'll see how long it lasts. And go to this gig @ Yayo Taco next month with Surrounded By Thieves. ;-) Just like yesterday, I'm gonna leave you with a video I've been sitting on for a while now, shot @ Jake's Bar in Lake Havasu when 3 Las Vegas bands invaded that place for a night of drunken shenanigans last month. Here's the Happy Campers doing a song called Buried Alive, and Thanx to Mr. Charisma himself Chad for telling me the name of it. <3 And The Heroine and The People's Whiskey are playing @ the Divebar tonight! Should be a fun gig. See ya there! Add Comment You know it's a good Birthday when you get so wasted that you have to leave your own Birthday party because you're too drunk to party! hahahaha Yeah, Mel's B-Day @ the Bunkhouse this past Sat. was a fucking blast! Six Shooters To The Sky killed it, Stereohigh fucking played for about an hour and a half too long, and the Vegascendents thrashed our way through an almost impressive set. New songs were played, and old songs were forgotten - it was great! LOL And Kudos! to whoever kept screaming at me to get naked... LOL It was a ruff ride for me after what I had been through at Reggae In The Desert earlier that day though. Wowsers. Drinking in the bright sunshine sure is draining! First off, anyone who tells you that the Indians don't rule the front stage area of Reggae In The Desert is a bald faced liar! LOL It's getting so bad now that we all are starting to remember each others names. ;-) And how they're able to get full bottles of booze into the place undetected is beyond me - hahaha The searches this year were terrible - I almost didn't get all of my drugs in! LOL And, they served Guinness there this year! Woo Hoo! It was Heavenly! And the Music, oh the Music was glorious! Don Carlos was incredible, and Mykal Rose just fucking killed it, leading the crowd in a hair raising version of Natty Dreadlocks that was just awesome to see and hear. And Freddie McGregor, the King of Lover's Rock, just OWNED the place with a waaaaaay too short set of hits including Bobby Babylon, Just Don't Want To Be Lonely, Big Ship, Africa and If You Want To Go. He even did a few of his Brother Dennis Brown's songs mid-set, which was just sick as fuck. Ending the night with a couple of old school Ska songs, which had him High Steppin' and Skanking and out-dancing guys in his band who were 30 years younger than him! hahaha It was great to see. I tried to dance but my back and legs weren't having it... LOL Reggae In The Desert 2011 was the shit! Rastafari! Praise Jah! King of Kings! Lord of Lords! Lion of Judah! hahaha That was for Jeremy, because he loves that stuff. :-) Deadhand are my new favorite band. Seriously. They're fucking incredible. <3 I saw a tiny bit of video, heard some glowing reports from a few people who's musical opinion I value, and I used to share a rehearsal space with them, so I know about what I speak of! LOL Congrats on a spectacular CD release show. I fucking wish I could of been there. :-( Everything's updated. Butthole Surfers are coming to town. Go to the Gig Calendar page to read all about it. While uploading the videos I took this weekend, I found this S.F.T. video I never posted before, so I thought I would leave you with that. It was taken last month @ the Divebar, and I think the song is called D.U.I., but I'm not sure. Enjoy! |
