First off, you can go to this gig tonight: The Mentors @ the Cheyenne Saloon And tomorrow night you can go to any one of these gigs, the Flatliners with the Hard Pipe Hitters @ the Box Office, Deadhand playing that Nirvana tribute show @ the Royal House, or TheCore playing @ the Double Clown. And then on Saturday you can venture out to Hendertucky if you're feeling brave, because the Aquabats are pretty sick, and the Voodoo Glow Skulls are always amazing, or you can go Downtown to see Pigasus and Dude City. If you ask me, the only place to be is the Bar & Bistro for Bobby Frank's Birthday get together, but I'm a little biased in that appraisal. :-) Yeah, busy weekend planned. Hope to see you all somewhere. :-) 2 Comments Guess who has their Internet back? Yeah, this guy right here! :-) I was awoken up at like 4 in the afternoon yesterday by a phone call from Cox cable telling me that they could be by in an hour to establish my Internet service if I was available. And this was just after they had told me on Monday that it wasn't going to be until the 30th that they could fix my wiring or whatever the problem was. Fucking competence exemplified I tells ya! Anyways, the Internet is back on for me, and I got lots of catching up to do. I'm downloading porn at 15 Mbps now!! ha ha ha Man, I wish this thing was on in time to tell you about that Vermin taping that went down at the Double Clown last night. It was for the pilot episode of Dirk Vermin's reality T.V. show, and I heard it was pretty fun. Can Vegas stand another reality based show? I hope so, because if anything, a T.V. show about Pussykat Tattoo and Dirk Vermin would be entertaining at the least. :-) Hey - I can tell you about this though - one of the newest bands on the scene here in Vegas is playing their last show tonight @ the Arts Factory. Yeah, Vihan Rytmi has the strange honor of playing their first show and their last show all in the same month! LOL Yeah, another band being affected by the 'Larry B. is moving' thing here in Vegas, which is a shame, because this band is really, really good. Check out the video below to see what you're gonna miss out on if you don't make it down to the Arts Factory tonight. Yeah, this whole thing with Larry moving out of town is a trip. He's moving to the Southern California area for some gawd forsaken reason... Ugh! He leaves behind quite a legacy, that's for sure. I think that all the bands he's played with or helped out with here in town make up like 40% of the Vegas Music Scene! LOL His Drummer Bob is making the trek with him as well, so I'm sure Die Laughing will continue in one form or another. The gig tonight @ the Arts Factory is their going away party and Die Laughing's CD Release Party, so get yer ass downtown and let's give him a proper sendoff. I'm sure he'll be back in town sometime in the future, but who knows when that will be, ya know? He is certainly going to be missed around here, but you can't help but be happy for him because you know the L.A. scene that he's moving into just got a Hell of a lot cooler, that's for sure. I raise my glass in a toast to you Larry - Big, Big Cheers Brother! All the Best to ya! See ya tonight! I gotta cut this short, because I just found out via Facebook that Guilty By Association is playing some cancer benefit gig just down the street from my pad at some motorcycle shop on Russell, so I'm gonna go check that out and get my grub on. Neon Reverb is in town, and just doing horribly from what I'm hearing, and I couldn't be happier. It's not tanking and stinking up the joint like the Pastel Project is, but still, I'm glad both of these so-called music festivals are doing shitty, because let's face it, the bands playing these things are shitty. Over-hyped bearded hipster scum playing 70's acoustic pablum to rooms full of scenester sheep. Fuck off with that shit. Seriously. Shit! I almost forgot to tell you about the February Music Reviews that were posted recently, so that's what I'm doing now! LOL I talk shit about the latest releases from Moon Women, Cerebral Ballzy, Metallica, Famous Last Words, G.P.B., the Nirvana tribute CD Newermind from Spin Magazine, Van Halen and Corrosion Of Conformity. Click here to read them. Also, I forgot to mention that The People's Whiskey @ the Bikini Bar photos were just added as well, so go to the right of these words and click on the photo of their guitar player who's name I don't know or you can just click here to check them out as well. Nothing much more to say really. Band practice has been killing me as of late, getting hyped up on recording this weekend @ Camel Hump Studios. It's gonna be fantastic! If you're in a band, click here to check out all the things they have to offer you. It's a pretty sick set up they got going there, so take advantage. Oh, and I don't think Aluminum Falcon is gonna be playing that gig @ the Cheyenne Saloon on Friday. We still haven't gotten a flyer from the Promoter and it just doesn't seem like it's worth it to play a gig that nobody knows anything about. We got better things to do with our time, like record a masterpiece! ;-) Man, those Long Island Ice Teas sure are tasty! :-) A really boring Super Bowl game yesterday. The last 5 minutes were pretty good, but other than that? Blecch. I was too busy eating and drinking and catching up with what's going on with everyone's Life right now to pay too much attention to the TV. I'm glad the Giants won, because as a Raiders fan, my motto was "Anybody but the Gaytriots". Loved that Tom Brady's bitch Gisele Bündchen complained about the receivers dropping some important passes in clutch time. She's absolutely right. They catch those passes and New England wins. Oh well. Congrats Giants! 6 months until preseason Football starts. Aug. 11 Raiders vs. Cardinals. YES!!! <3 The only good thing about Football season being over is that I can now focus on Hockey! :-) The Sharks are on fire right now, and I for one couldn't be happier. I'm going to San Francisco in a few weeks and I'm catching a couple of games while I'm up there, against Anaheim and Boston. One door closes and another one opens. Time to switch out the silver and black jerseys for the teal and black jerseys. Go Sharks!! Hey, my band Aluminum Falcon is playing our first gig of the year this Weds. @ the Bikini Bar with The Heroines from San Antonio, TX., not the Local group of malcontents who were once led by Kelly Benway. It's my Birthday party show, and we're playing with The People's Whiskey and the Quitters, who are 2 of the better bands gigging around the City right now. I wish I had a flyer to show you or to use to promote the gig, but apparently the Promoter didn't get my text messages about sending me one, so whatever. And please, when you create an event on Facebook, would it kill you to post the flyer for the gig on the page, or at least a link to the full size flyer on there somewhere? Fucking lazy bunch of bastards, myself included. I could of made a flyer for the gig myself, but what for? There obviously was one already made, and besides, that's the Promoter's job, right, and I don't wanna do the Promoter's job. That's why they get the big, big bucks, right? LOL If you're into kick ass Punk Rock and Roll music, then get your ass to the Bikini Bar and check the gig out. Birthday shots are always appreciated, but only AFTER I'm done playing. Yeah right. ;-) Happy Monday! Everything is updated. New Pictures of Vanish Twin and Fuzz So Low added to the website. It's gorgeous outside. Get off your ass and do something! Me, I'm going out back to work on the yard. It's always good to get a little sunshine on your face. :-) It's not like I forgot about Steve's passing, because I didn't. I know it hit a lot of people in a hard way. I wasn't as close to the guy as everyone else in town was, because the Double Clown wasn't my hangout during the Steve era, but the few times I was there when he was there he was always cool to me. I knew the guy, I respected him, had nothing bad to say about him, and when I heard that Steve The Liar had passed away, I was a little bummed. Getting old sucks ass. I'm learning this each and every day. Steve was a really nice guy, he was definitely well loved and revered in this town, and I felt like I had to say something about the guy's passing because he was a integral part of the Las Vegas Music Scene. Here's to you Steve. Long may your memory live. Salud! So yeah, fun weekend at the Motor City Cafe for the S.F.T. CD release show. It was entertaining, to say the least. I bought a kick ass S.F.T. embroidered hat that looks really cool. I'm gonna be sporting that shit everywhere I go. L.V.H.C. :-) The band sounded OK, debuting their new drummer who, uhhhmm, how should I say this, needs A LOT more practice. Maybe it's because I know the songs like the back of my hands, but seriously, the guy was a mess. I hope he gets better, I really do. That band needs a good drummer. The front 4 of S.F.T. were great, with Bryan working the crowd up on the mic, Carlos and Tom drinking beer and playing guitar, and Jamie just prowling around back and forth rocking the bass. People were digging them, and the band seemed to be having fun, which is always good to see. Break The Cycle from San Diego played too, but they sounded too much like Rancid (they covered Radio) for me to care too much about them. Jeremy says that if you don't play Matt Freeman's bass lines right, then you shouldn't play Rancid covers. Yeah... enough said. And the Vegascendents didn't play their best set, but I'm told it either sucked or was really, really good, depending on your level of intoxication. I was too busy vomiting in between songs to notice or care. All liquid no chunks. I haven't done that in years, and that will teach me not to go all day without having anything to eat before playing a gig. Lots of people came out to see us play, and then they all left right after we were done playing, the frivolous finicky bastards. Ha Ha Ha We played a few new songs, Zack sang a couple of them, and people stood far away from us while we played. It makes for a boring read, but trust me - we were all having fun! Thanks to everyone for coming out, and Congratulations to S.F.T. for putting out one cool sounding CD. Kudos! Everything's updated. Melt Banana Show Review posted (click here to read it), same with the December Music Reviews, featuring the latest from Jesus Lizard, TheCore, Culture Shock, The People's Whiskey, and Nirvana. Click here to read that. Better late than never, right? Lots of stuff going on this weekend. In true Vegas fashion, it's all happening at the same time and on the same days. Le sigh... 17 years ago... damn. Has it really been that long? I remember like it happened yesterday. I woke up at my usual 2 in the afternoon. I had passed out watching Beavis and Butthead on the tube the night before, and when I woke up the next day and flicked the TV on to have something to watch while I ate my Froot Loops, it was all over the news. Footage of the people gathering outside of the house and from the helicopters circling overhead let me know that someone important had died, but when I saw that it was Kurt Cobain that they were talking about, I was floored, to say the least. I kind of knew the dude. Hung out with him many times. I was a huge fan and had seen Nirvana play like, at least 25 times. The image of all those thousands of people losing their shit @ the Del Mar fair grounds when Nirvana opened for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, right when Smells Like Teen Spirit was breaking big, is something I will never forget. The last time I saw them @ the Forum is something I wish I could forget! Phooey! LOL They were a fucking great band and for someone who supposedly had it all and was on top of the world, the suicide came as a major shock. Yeah, I knew about the previous attempt in Rome weeks before, but still, I just chalked it up to rock star indulgences and left it at that. The guy I casually chatted with all those times before and after a gig seemed like the last person I would ever suspect of killing himself, that's for sure. Yeah, that last time I saw him in Costa Mesa @ Club With No Name for that Melvins / Cows gig, he had his handlers with him and yeah, he looked a fucking mess, but he was still talkative, he seemed OK all things considered, and after talking to him for a bit and realizing he didn't remember me or have a clue as to who I was, I left him alone and wandered off to check out the bands, never thinking that was gonna be the last time I saw him, but it was. What a fucking shame. Such a fucking loss. I'm gonna go listen to my Chosen Rejects Nirvana box set and just revel in all Nirvana's brilliance. makes that With The Lights Out box set look like the piece of shit it is. |
