Free time? What's that? LOL
In between incessant girls demanding that I watch their videos the instant they post them, or the constant Skyping, or people popping in to see and hear what I'm working on, or band practice, which, although I'm taking it easy with that because of my leg, is still a bit of a drain, with all that going on, I really don't have time for shit! Although I'm only in 4 active bands at this moment, they're all in a spirit of Creativity right now, which has me both brain drained and physically wiped out. Then I spend hours and hours on end mixing and remixing stuff I record at these band practices, trying to get the best sound I can out of what I'm given to work with, staring at the florescent green glow of the Adobe Audition workspace until my eyes bleed and I'm tone deaf from hours of listening to the same thing over and over and over again. Then I have to break them up into MP3's and post and share them with the bands so that we can work on and expound upon these ideas and bring them to fruition. And then the cycle starts anew. I try to sneak in a gig or a hang sesh with Friends and whatnot when I can, but that's waaaaay too far and in between happenings to be comfortable for me. Whew! Not that I'm complaining, mind you, but it's just that with all this going on, the website kind of suffers by being relegated to the bottom of the totem pole of Importance. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.I think I need a vacation. Hawaii or Seattle? Hmmmmmmmm...
I bought a bag of oranges from some Mexican street vendor last week, and I've been eating them non stop ever since. Best oranges I've eaten in a long ass time. :-)
Hey! Neon Reverb is in town, and I could give a fuck less. Fredward is playing the kickoff thing tonight @ the Bunkhouse with Silver Snakes and the Marquees, so if you're in the mood for some Downtown carousing, then stop by and see what's up. Those 2 tracks the band does on that Cash For Clay compilation are cool. If you haven't heard that collection of Local musical greatness, then please click here and grab yourself a copy post haste. Tomorrow night your new favorite band the Pluralses are playing with a band called Lenguas Largas @ Hellpop! comics, and if I'm feeling up to it after band practice, I may just stop by. Friday night Fuzz SoLow is playing the Clydesdales CD release party @ the Bunkhouse, Brendan from Deadhand's beardcore project Mercy Music is having his CD release party @ the Beauty Bar on Sat., playing with Old Man Markley (ugh), and Sun. Milk Music is headlining a 2 stage blow out going down @ the Beauty Bar on Sunday. And that's about it for Neon Reverb. The rest of it can go fuck off. But it isn't like there's nothing else going on this weekend that isn't Neon Reverb related. Nope! There's plenty going on, and it's a varied grab bag of stuff to do. Tomorrow night is the Shotguns & Gasoline CD release party @ the LVCS with Shotguns & Gasoline and the Quitters, that should be pretty cool. Fri. there's a killer gig @ the Double Clown with the Fat Dukes Of Fuck and the Seriouslys, who, just like Fredward, have a couple of great songs on that Cash For Clay compilation I was talking about earlier. Have you bought it yet? If you haven't, shame on you! Then on Sat. Slow Children , from Riverside, CA. is playing with Unfair Fight and the Randoms, who I'm pretty sure are not THEE Randoms who sang the classic Dangerhouse single Let's Get Rid Of New York, but you never know. ;-) It doesn't matter because I'm going to be there regardless, and so should you. If you're not, you should go see the return of S.F.T., who are playing with Three Chord Radio, who feature Cody from The People's Whiskey, @ Favorites. So you see, there's lots of stuff going on this weekend musically, so choose wisely and get off your ass and have some fun! :-)
I got this a few days ago, and I can't stop laughing about the absurdity of the wording. I know press releases are nothing but hot air and hype, but whoever wrote this one is a fucking Shakespeare! LOL
This year, we are very excited to announce our initial lineup for the 15th Annual Punk Rock Bowling and Music Festival which will feature one of the first full performances of none other than the godfathers of west coast punk rock themselves! Taking their cue from the black flag of anarchy, let us present Flag. Long may they wave. Featuring original members Keith Morris (vocals), Chuck Dukowski (bass), Bill Stevenson (drums 1981-1985) along with SST label mate and Descendents guitarist Stephen Egerton (guitar) performing the music of Black Flag. Morris (whose post-Black Flag career includes fronting the Circle Jerks and, most recently, hardcore revivalists Off!), Dukowski (who, after exiting Black Flag in 1983, founded SWA, Würm, United Gang Members, October Faction, and, his current outfit, the Chuck Dukowski Sextet), Stevenson, and Egerton decided to extend the legacy, working up a repertoire of 30 classic Black Flag songs with an eye toward future live performances.
Taking their cue from the black flag of anarchy, they’re calling themselves Flag. Long may they wave. hee hee hee That "black flag of anarchy" line is forever going to crack me up. Anyways, again, for those of you who think you're finally going to see Black Flag play live, I love to burst your bubble by telling you that you're not. What you're gonna see is a band called Flag, who are a Black Flag cover band, and they're headlining Punk Rock Posing this year. You all should be so proud! ;-) But don't worry! If you can't make it out to the fleecing, just wait until the fleecing comes to you! They're gonna play other gigs in other places. You think they'd learn 30 Black Flag songs if they weren't? ;-)
And since they were mentioned in the press release, why isn't Off! playing? Are they not Punk enough? They're basically Black Flag part 2, right? And why isn't Greg Ginn's new band (with skateboarder Mike Vallely on vocals) Good For You playing? I'm sure they're going to try to sound very Black Flag like, and they got a new album coming out next month. And why isn't the Chuck Dukowski Sextet playing? They're basically My War era Black Flag with a chick on vocals. Well, I guess the answer is that nobody gives a shit about the present; only content to roll in the nostalgia of the past like pigs in shit. How sad. All these new bands carrying on the Black Flag legacy, and they couldn't get booked to play Punk Rock Posing if their life depended on it, but yet Old Man Markley and shitty bands like that play every year. Pathetic.
Speaking of pathetic, you can come out to Favorite's tomorrow night and watch a band I play in, American Buckshot, play mop up to a bunch of other bands, including Agent Orange and Surrounded By Thieves. According to Dean, loads of people are going to hang around after the headliners are done performing, and I, of course, say that we're going to be playing to an empty room, so come on out if you can and see which one of us is right! LOL And on Sat. the Vegascendents are playing some private party somewhere with open bar and free food. This could be interesting... ;-) Everything is updated. Have a great weekend.
Oh my fucking GAWD!! If this isn't enough to make you throw up whatever you had for breakfast or lunch today, then I don't know what is. I thought the thing had jumped the shark before, but now, not only has it jumped the shark while wearing flaming hot pink booty shorts, but it also crashed into Arnold's Chicken Wings shack after landing on the other side... heh heh heh
What a fucking farce! All these bands are more suited of playing the Double Down, Bunkhouse, or any other small club here in town, which most of them already have. Remember when Sham 69 played the Emergency Room a few years back? Probably not, because nobody was there. But now that they're playing a big festival, all the sheep in Vegas are baaaaa-ing about how awesome it is that Sham 69 is finally playing Vegas. Fucking tools. Just like how a few of the 'Cool Kids' here in town were crowing about that Bronx show at the Double Clown a few days ago. "The Bronx never play on a weekday in a small club." Really? Didn't I see the Bronx play at the Beauty Bar on a Weds. night just a few months ago? Whatever. I guess unless Sailor Jerry sponsors it, it doesn't happen. Fuck off. And I love that Old Man Markley is playing PRB AGAIN. After Shawn Stern himself told a friend of mine that PRB doesn't let bands play the festival 2 years in a row, I can't help but laugh at his hypocrisy. Must be nice to be the Stern's fluff girls. ;-) Anyways, much like last year, I'm gonna be staying the fuck away from this public Fleecing of the Sheep. "Plus more great bands to be announced." it says at the bottom of the line up. Me? I'm still waiting for 1 great band to be announced... heh
Tomorrow night I have a dilemma. Do I go see the Darkness @ the HOB, or do I go see T.S.O.L. @ the Bunkhouse? That Pixies tribute show @ the Royal Resort is also going on tomorrow night, but I was never that big of a fan of the Pixies, so Meh. I thought the Naked City Romeos were playing the Motor City Cafe on Sat. night, but I think I got the dates wrong. 3d6 and The Fat Dukes Of Fuck are playing @ the Bikini Bar on Sat., but I dunno if I'm gonna make that. Same with that Orgy show @ the Aruba on Sun. That place is doing a whole bunch of stuff show wise, but now that I found out that Brian Saliba is behind it, all I can say is enjoy it while it lasts. University Theater - anyone remember that? No, probably not, and that's just the way Las Vegas likes it. Forget your Past. Celebrate what's happening Now, no matter that it's neither Original, Interesting or Cute the 2nd, 3rd or 4th time around. Keep the Masses distracted and you can get anything done and approved. That's the American Way!! ;-)
