Deadhand Flyer
Bucket List... fuck off! ha ha ha

Don't forget about this Deadhand gig happening tonight. I'm not sure why they're playing the Griffin, but I'd like to think it's because they're trying to pay off some drug fueled, hooker filled, 3 day long drinking binge, but I'm sure the real reason they're playing there is not as cool as what I imagined, but you never know. Anyways, go check out Deadhand tonight, and if I can get out of the studio tonight on time I just might venture downtown to check this out. It's an intimate setting that gives me the opportunity to see at least 1 good band before the Punk Rock Bowling snore fest oozes it's way into town. Sorry folks, but I'm just not feeling it this year. Who's playing this year that's worth getting worked up about? Rancid? NOFX? The Belltones? LOL Fuck all that ghey shit. If I wasn't playing the 2 gigs I'm playing with Guilty By Association I wouldn't even be anywhere in the vicinity of any gig happening this weekend. Le sigh. I'm always hanging out during the actual bowling aspect of it though, and this year I'm on the Vegascendents bowling team! Aaaaargh!! ha ha ha  Oh, BTW, Lane 1 @ Noon on Sat. - Roll Out and Support! :-)

And now it's the Calm before the Storm, the Punk Rock Bowling storm. I finally caught up on all the Flyers for the Gig Calendar page, and I've been nerding out big time on applying all the changes that Weebly have made to the software that makes this website possible. Did you see the new layout for the Videos page? I love it. It's all categorized and alphabetized and you can click on any bands name and it takes you to a page that contains all the stuff I have from that band on one page. You can comment on everything individually now, which is awesome too, and I found an old Thirteen34 video on my old Myspace page that I threw on there that I don't even have a hard copy of myself anymore. I lost it on a computer I used to have a long ass time ago. Click here to check that video out. I did the same with the Music Reviews page. I just added the review for the new Ministry CD, and you can click here to check that out too. I got a lot more but I've been busy adding all of this years photos I took to the Pictures page, which also has the new layout applied to it. I feel energized. I feel alive. Everything with all 5 bands I'm in is going great, almost... heh. I'm loving the physical drain of practicing and playing drums every day, and I got a bunch of new website merch on the way that I'm pretty hyped on. Stickers, badges, tee shirts, y todo! Things are going good with me, and I hope they are with you too. Most of you anyways. ;-)

I am soooooooooo in Love with Squeeze right now - even more than I ever was, if that's possible. They were incredible last night, basically playing everything from the Singles - 45's And Under release, with a few obscure songs that were definitely treats for us fans, stuff like In Quintessence, If I Didn't Love You, Heaven and Bang Bang from their very first album. My fucking jaw dropped as I haven't heard them play that song in like 30 years. Fucking Wow!!! In the early days, sure, but now, not really, as the band pretty much sticks to a give-the-people-what-they-want aspect of playing the Hits, although the band gets to stretch it's musical muscle on some newer, latter day material that's almost jam band, Rolling Stones like shit, but I forgave them for that little hippy-ish indiscretion. The crowd was tame, but the waitress service was fun, with the old folks in the crowd standing in nicely organized rows, allowing the waitresses to keep bringing me those splendid 32oz. drafts without any trouble. The more I drank, the better the band sounded. Go figure, right? ha ha ha There I was, a big dude in a Sharks jersey, jumping around and rocking out to Squeeze, singing along to almost every gawd damn song they played and just having the time of my Life in a crowd where there was seriously no one under the age of 30 in the place. Ha Ha Ha Ha I did not give a FUCK because sometimes it's good to be an old dude because you can appreciate the songwriting Genius of Mr's Difford and Tilbrook and the Music that they have created. The band was incredible. It was the same line up of players that I saw when Squeeze played the Crown Theater inside the Rio a few years ago (click here to see the photos I took that night) and like a fine wine, they've only gotten better with age. <3 Gawd damn do I love me some Squeeze. I bought all kinds of swag as I left the place. It was gaudy and all over-priced and I didn't care. :-)

Right before the gig I was watching the live feed on YouTube of Coachella 2012, and I gotta say, it was pretty sweet. I watched Jimmy Cliff's set, which was fantastic, despite the presence of that dooshbag Tim Armstrong in Mr. Cliff's backing band. It took me a while to recognize that Jimmy Cliff was doing a Rancid cover, but once I did... BARF!! ha ha ha I Can See Clearly Now was great, with the storm clouds off in the distance over the mountains, and, of course, The Harder They Fall, which is a Spiritual fucking classic. The set ended too quickly for me. The crowd seemed to dig it though, so that was good. And then came Madness. They sounded a bit ruff during the opener One Step Beyond, and they were missing Bedders on bass, but I gotta say, they sounded GREAT!! Suggs voice was in fine form, Woody is always on the beat, Chrissy Boy was playing Johnny Thunders riffs in between songs, Mike was pounding the keyboards in the back and Lee is just a madman, coming out dressed like some Chinese citizen from 1792 and just acting like the lunatic that he is, jumping around and up on the monitors, and mugging for the camera whenever possible. Best line of the night came from Chas, who said "I'm too old for this shit." LOL Second best was Lee asking the crowd "Does anyone have any drugs?" ;-) The highlight of the set was when they did Night Boat To Cairo, with the dual horn intro that sounded SICK, and that fucking crazy kid in the audience who was dressed up like the band were in the video for the song, crowd surfing with the biggest smile on his face while Madness played. That's what going to gigs is all about - having FUN!!! Oh my gawd I cannot wait to see Madness tonight. <3

If you're not going to the Madness gig tonight (I can't imagine why you're not though) there's other stuff going on. I had the date wrong about the Seriouslys gig @ the Motor City Cafe. It's tonight, not yesterday. If you're not going to that you should go to the Ignite / Guilty By Association / The Happy Campers / N.E. Last Words gig at the Aruba. Deadhand dropped off the gig because they don't do Pay to Play. Good for them. I couldn't be prouder. :-) And oh, I lost that video I shot of them doing Singing For You @ the Double Clown on Thurs. My iPhone took a shit, and when I took it down to the Apple store for them to fix it, they said they didn't know what was wrong with it, because it didn't show any signs of abuse/damage. It just couldn't be accessed, so I lost everything on it. Oh well. I got a brand new iPhone out of it, which will be majorly used tonight at Madness. I got Pigasus practice beforehand, so I'm gonna go try and get some sleep. These past few days have been AMAZING, and tonight is just going to be the capper of it all. It's always good seeing your old Friends. :-) Have a great weekend everyone. I know I am! Oh, and go see The People's Whiskey and the Hard Pipe Hitters tomorrow night @ the Bunkhouse!

I'm sorry, but I had to. It was like I felt compelled to do it, like something deep inside of me was just yearning to break out and pontificate upon this travesty that's being thrust upon my Friends and Family, and the sad part is, some of them are actually getting into it. They're actually HYPED on it, which just boggles my mind. I mean, really? REALLY??? Am I that far out of the loop, or are all of you just that stupid? Maybe a little of both?

Worst. Lineup. EVER!!!
Wowsers. I am beyond disappointed in this. They better hope that the late night club shows are interesting, because if not, then I really got no reason to be anywhere near this stink fest. Lemme break this down for you band by band, to better illustrate what a farcical gathering of Poseurs this thing is going to be - just based on these "headliners", or "West Coast Heavy Hitters" as the Punk Rock Bowling website is billing them as. Le Sigh. Fucking dooshbags, and BTW, that chick on the poster looks totally 'Punk Rock', doesn't she?

Rancid:
My hatred for this band is Legendary, because, let's face it, they suck big wet donkey balls and ask for seconds when they do. Biggest bunch of jokes I've ever had the displeasure of seeing play live, and their songs are just terrible. There's just nothing there and Tim's pronounced farcical English accent is nauseating. Rancid is about as Punk Rock as Hot Topic is. Enough said.

NOFX:
They just played here like last month, so for them to be headlining one of the days is a bit of a slap in the face to their fans here. I'm not even sure that HOB gig was sold out either. It's just a bit of lazy booking that they're even on the bill. Not to mention that they've been running on fumes for years, and that the schtick has been stale and old for years now. Years.

Pennywise:
Even if you ignore the fact that they're currently gigging around with a new singer that sucks, these guys have no business being on here. I've never understood what anyone likes about this band, and the Braah's that do like this band make me stay away from them even more. I never liked Jocks. :-) But even when they had their original lead singer, they fucking sucked anus, and with this new guy they're parading around, I'm sure they've only gotten shitty and more sucky, if that's at all possible. Bro-Core invades Punk Rock Bowling and all of you won't give a shit, because you all like it. Sing loud when they play Bro Anthem dooshbag. Yeah, I'm talking to you.

The Adicks:
Oh man, this one, wowsers. These fucking Rockstar pieces of shit got chased out of town with their pussy ass tiny English puds tucked firmly between their clown faced painted ass cheeks after what they tried to pull on Roxie and the LVCS. Anyone remember that? Probably not, and it doesn't matter. Punk Rock Bowling feeds on the ignorant few like you. Nostalgia for Monetary Gains. You're all gonna be there dancing along to Viva La Revolution, acting like you're so original and hardcore and whatnot when really, you're just a fool, a fucking sheep in the crowd. This band is not worth supporting and should be loudly Booooo'd and pelted with feces when they take the stage. Fuck them. Do you remember the last time the Adicks played here in Vegas? I do! It was at Diablo's. There was like 20 people there. Pathetic. And now they're one of the headliners, sneaking back in to play Vegas through a little loophole, a favor from a friend, acting like everything's cool and like they are loved here. Fuck that, and Fuck them. What a fucking farce. Fuck off Wankers!

The Briefs:
I really got no beef with the Briefs. Heroin's a Hell of a Drug, ya know? I mean, if you've never seen the Dickies, 999 or the Devil Dogs before, then I guess I could see why you like them. Unoriginal. The Briefs are just a yawn inducing snooze fest to me.  I saw them play a Punk Rock Bowling awards ceremony opening up for Manic Hispanic @ Pinky's many, many moons ago, and was just nonplussed while watching them. I guess the biggest thing with them being announced on here is the fact that the Briefs are being put onto the same level as NOFX and Rancid when they clearly are not. They're not very good, and they never were. Definitely nothing to be hyped about.

So yeah. If these are the best bands that are going to be playing Punk Rock Bowling, then count me out! I'm gonna stay as far as fuck away from it as I possibly can. There's a reason why Motörhead has never played Punk Rock Bowling. Think about it. ;-) And, on that note, I'm gonna step off my soap box and get back to editing the photos I took on my trip to Cali. Everything's updated. Yada Yada Yada. I hope Punk Rock Bowling gets some better bands playing, otherwise I got better things to do, like check out the new water park that's opening that weekend. Hyped! :-)

Steve The Liar
It's not like I forgot about Steve's passing, because I didn't. I know it hit a lot of people in a hard way. I wasn't as close to the guy as everyone else in town was, because the Double Clown wasn't my hangout during the Steve era, but the few times I was there when he was there he was always cool to me. I knew the guy, I respected him, had nothing bad to say about him, and when I heard that Steve The Liar had passed away, I was a little bummed. Getting old sucks ass. I'm learning this each and every day. Steve was a really nice guy, he was definitely well loved and revered in this town, and I felt like I had to say something about the guy's passing because he was a integral part of the Las Vegas Music Scene. Here's to you Steve. Long may your memory live. Salud!

So yeah, fun weekend at the Motor City Cafe for the S.F.T. CD release show. It was entertaining, to say the least. I bought a kick ass S.F.T. embroidered hat that looks really cool. I'm gonna be sporting that shit everywhere I go. L.V.H.C. :-) The band sounded OK, debuting their new drummer who, uhhhmm, how should I say this, needs A LOT more practice. Maybe it's because I know the songs like the back of my hands, but seriously, the guy was a mess. I hope he gets better, I really do. That band needs a good drummer. The front 4 of S.F.T. were great, with Bryan working the crowd up on the mic, Carlos and Tom drinking beer and playing guitar, and Jamie just prowling around back and forth rocking the bass. People were digging them, and the band seemed to be having fun, which is always good to see. Break The Cycle  from San Diego played too, but they sounded too much like Rancid (they covered Radio) for me to care too much about them. Jeremy says that if you don't play Matt Freeman's bass lines right, then you shouldn't play Rancid covers. Yeah... enough said. And the Vegascendents didn't play their best set, but I'm told it either sucked or was really, really good, depending on your level of intoxication. I was too busy vomiting in between songs to notice or care. All liquid no chunks. I haven't done that in years, and that will teach me not to go all day without having anything to eat before playing a gig. Lots of people came out to see us play, and then they all left right after we were done playing, the frivolous finicky bastards. Ha Ha Ha We played a few new songs, Zack sang a couple of them, and people stood far away from us while we played. It makes for a boring read, but trust me - we were all having fun! Thanks to everyone for coming out, and Congratulations to S.F.T. for putting out one cool sounding CD. Kudos!

Everything's updated. Melt Banana Show Review posted (click here to read it), same with the December Music Reviews, featuring the latest from Jesus Lizard, TheCore, Culture Shock, The People's Whiskey, and Nirvana. Click here to read that. Better late than never, right? Lots of stuff going on this weekend. In true Vegas fashion, it's all happening at the same time and on the same days. Le sigh...

I live for gigs like that one last night. I really do.

Small, intimate things with a handful of Friends in attendance, glorified practices really, and the vibe is just so relaxed, stress free, I dunno, something. The Bands are basically playing for each other and the 2 or 3 other idiots in attendance who have nothing better to do than to come out and check out some bands they've never heard of, on the slim chance that one of them might be worth remembering and maybe worth scrounging some change together to buy some merch off of the band to help their gas funds to get them to the next gig. Yeah, that's what last nights gig @ Yayo Taco was all about, and I loved every minute of it. I only made the effort to see Deadhand, who I am currently obsessed with, but seeing a band like Razorhoof just throw down the sickness with their Neurosis / Eyehategod Noise not Music was worth the $5 admission donation price alone. Click here to check out the bands Facebook page. And what's up with the new changes to the layout of Facebook? Can you say, LAME!! hahahaha  Smooth Sailing were pretty good too, in a Refused / At The Drive In kind of way, shaking the walls of Yayo Taco loose with their double bass playing musical onslaught. Click here to check their Facebook page out and become their Friend. And I finally got to see G.P.B., who are just the cutest bunch of Punk kids ever! They're like a cross between Rancid and the Casualties, and every one of their songs is, uhhhmmm, how should I put this, "inspired", by bands like the Dead Boys, Sham 69 and the 4-Skins. They played a NOFX cover that never changed tempo once, even though it was supposed to... heh heh heh. Deadhand played a NOFX cover too, Linoleum, and had some random Punk kid sing it and lose his shit while doing so. His buddy helped out on backup vocals too... rad. It was cute and awesome at the same time. Totally laid back night @ Yayo Taco. You should of been there. You missed out. :-)

Tomorrow night Pigasus is playing at the Beauty Bar for some reason, but I couldn't find shit on Facebook about it. I thought it was for something about tattoos or some shit, but who knows. Friday night Danny, The Prince of Drummers, is putting on a show at the place he works at, the Bikini Bar, that he's calling The Clash Of The Scenes, and it's featuring the Tinglerz, Six Shooters To The Sky and Babilos, and you can click here to check out all the info about it on the Facebook event page for it. Isn't Facebook wonderful? Takes all the effort out of promoting a gig! LOL And everybody is complaining about the new Facebook layout but I dunno, I like it. It works for me and simplifies everything. Whatever. And don't forget about this gig happening @ the Hypnotic Lounge this Saturday. It should be a night of Local Music Sexiness!!!! Deadhand, Aluminum Falcon and Holding Onto Sound. I was told that Dead Neon dropped off... Booooooooooooo. See ya there! XOXOXOXOXO

Robots are SEXXXY!! <3

So how did your weekend go? Mine's went craptacular! hahaha It's a long story that I'm sick of telling, because I've pretty much told everyone I know what happened, but needless to say I didn't make it to the Pow Wow... Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. I spent the weekend decompressing and dealing with all the detritus that came from the whole Pow Wow experience. Yaaay! In the end everything worked out, so no biggie.

I'm usually not the guy to get all into posting videos on a famous persons birthday, but this thing that Google did for Freddie Mercury's Birthday this past Monday was soooooo good I have to post it here just for posterity's sake. I fucking LOVE Queen and it's one of Life's great tragedies that Freddie is no longer with us. Booooooooo. Check out the video - it's rad! And I'd like to point out it's exactly 1:38 seconds long... heh heh
In case you didn't already hear it, the Iggy & The Stooges gig this Sat. was cancelled, making that Atari Teenage Riot gig all the more of a draw. I doubt that the cool people who were going to Iggy will make it to ATR, but you never know. ;-)

Hey! The Black Jetts are in need of a bass player! George, Paolo, I'm looking at you! hahahaha Chad and Tom left the band to pursue their other musical entity, and so the band got their original drummer Jay back, but now they need a bass player. If you think you have the chops, and I kind of think that having some big ol' chops on the side of your face might be a requirement at this point, then you should contact Roy at the band's Facebook page by clicking here and telling him you wanna kick out the jams, motherfucker! If you tell him you read about the bass player thing on onethirtyeight.org, you will get absolutely NOTHING for that mention, except for some ridicule and pity and being pelted by some sort of body fluid.

Speaking of fluids, Bobby Franks, Sophisticated Cool Guy Around Town, and ex-front man for Local Hardcore Legends Of Faith And Fire (<3) has started a cool little blog about something he really knows something about - Drinking! hahahaha It's called The Bar Hack and you can go to it by clicking here and reading the first entry, which is about him creating a drink and flavoring Rebel Yell whiskey with blueberries or some shit like that... Sacrilege! hahahaha

Everything is updated. I added a whole bunch of stuff but damned if I can remember what it is. The Shakedown gigs info, some Show Reviews, Videos, whatever. Everyone and their Mom is at Rancid tonight, and I don't know if that's funny or sad. Different strokes, I know, but Man... really? LOL Oh well. I'm gonna hit the town running, since apparently all the bands I currently play with couldn't practice tonight because they're all gheying off at the House Of Boooooo's... Homos. Hahahaha I leave you with this video of Guilty by Association performing their last song ever with Bingo Billy behind the drum kit @ Yayo Taco a few weeks back. The song is the title track from their latest release American Decay. Enjoy!

YES! The drum tracks are done! Me and Jesse tracked them in a few hours time, and although we kept nothing that was recorded on the first takes, what we captured on tape sounds killer, if I do say so myself, and I do, since this is my web site, and I'll say what the fuck ever I want, dig?  You young kids get off on your Friendster / Face The Jury / Dreambooks shite... I get off on my web site, so sue me. I finally got around to reading the currently ongoing novella on Airbag, and all I gotta do is laugh about it. We are playing the Punk Rock Prom this Saturday with The Mapes, so those of you smart enough not to go to Rancid should cruise by... just to see who dresses up "Punk Rock" and to see who dresses up 'Prom'. I'm wearing a suit myself... and maybe a pimp ass hat with a big feather in it... who knows. The site's format has been updated and made uniform... I posted some Pictures of Curl Up And Die from the Hella-Ween show... threw up a couple of the old Show Reviews... re-posted the With Honor and Thunderfist Pictures... and that's about it.
