Oh what a night! <3With a darkened mini-ramp in place, the LVCS was off the hook Saturday night for the JFA skate rock fiesta happening downtown! Kudos to Blue Tile Lounge Presents for making it all happen, and to Tim and the LVCS for putting that ramp in - finally! Next time there may even be some lighting in there so that the skaters can see what they're doing and what they're skating on. It was a great turnout; enthusiasm and energy levels in the place was at an all time high, and if it wasn't for those dickheads in Roid Rage it would of been a perfect gig.
They were 2nd band up on the bill, they knew they had an 8:45 start time (us bands were given the set times days earlier), and yet they didn't go on until 10:00, basically am hour and a half wait. Yeah, people were leaving and if I didn't have to play I would of left too. Because of them every bands set got cut short, with G.F.I.
getting ROBBED because they were the out of town band, I guess. Their short set sounded spectacular, though, and I hope that 'this is our final gig ever' BS isn't true. Every other band sounded great. Guilty By Association
sounded excellent from the hallway where I was setting my drum set up. IDFI
were fucking crazed in their musical onslaught, and Mersa
were intensely moody, sounding like Amebix
on an angry day. Loved it. And J.F.A.
, oh my goodness, J.F.A.
were glorious, feeding off the crowd's enthusiasm and circle pit action from the opening song to the last one played with a kick ass set chock full of everything and anything that you could think of. At one point they were just taking requests from the audience, playing whatever was being called out on the fly. Such a fun night. Expect a write up real soon. :-)
The Ditch Dust BBQ 2013
was a blast! Thanx again to Blue Tile Lounge Presents
for putting it all together, and to Steve and Double Down Radio
for the appropriate soundtrack to everything. Excellent turnout, the Hawaiian hot dogs were worth the drive, and there were some kick ass skaters tearing shit up out there, including the guys from J.F.A.
, all of them making the most of the spot until way after the sun went down. Basically we all went straight from Boulder City to the gig Downtown, stopping only to drop people off and to grab the gear. It was a fun time, and I'm looking forward to the next one. Everything is updated.
Loads of photos coming soon. I'm going back to bed. This Punk Rock shit is fucking draining on us old guys. :-)
Well, I guess the question of the hour is if American Buckshot
is going to play this gig on Friday. To be honest, your guess is as good as mine. I'm wracked with pain, but I'm able to walk around for short bursts of time, but it comes with a lot of effort and stress and I'm kind of hunched over when I do it. I feel like a worthless lump but I think I'm making progress. 2 other Local bands, N.E. Last Words
and Roid Rage
, have been added, so if we don't play it won't be THAT big of a deal. I'm taking it day by day, so we'll see. It should be a fun gig regardless. Come out and work off some of that post Thanksgiving day turkey flab by bouncing around while D.I.
plays all the songs you all know and love. There are worse ways to spend a Black Friday night. My recent injury has me Thankful for a lot of things, especially my Friends who have been helping me out as of late, bringing me food and crutches and taking me to the Dr.'s and all that stuff you take for granted when you're no longer able to walk.
I seriously love each and every one of you, and I couldn't do any of this without your help. Again, I'm seriously Thankful for everything you all do for me. I'm also Thankful
that this Aluminum Falcon
recording is officially being released! LOL It's been a long time coming, that's for sure. It's called Finally
, and you can listen to it and purchase it on Google Play by clicking here
, and on CD Baby by clicking here
. The link for Soundcloud is right below here. Check it out and lemme know what you think about it. It was recorded here in town @ Camel Hump Studios
by John "Plastic Bag" Brown and mixed by Paul Miner
, who's worked with Death By Stereo
and New Found Glory
, among others. I'm really proud of how this came out. The actual, physical CD will be available for purchase real soon. The artwork that Andy from Surrounded By Thieves
did for it is incredible.
Some new stuff added to the website to bring to your attention, like the stuff Karl Bakla has been turning in, Music Reviews
on the latest from the Post Teens
to read that) and the Dee Cracks
to read that), a Ramones
type band from Austria. I finally straightened out my review of the Unfair Fight
7" (click here
to read it), and the photos of The Vermin
playing at the Double Clown were posted. Click here
to check those out. Yeah, lots of stuff coming up on here. There's lots of catching up to do. :-) P.S. Happy Birthday Talitha - I love you! XOXOXOXO
Yeah, I'm a very lucky man indeed! ;-)
I just finished up with a Vegascendents practice, for some gig we have coming up somewhere with somebody, and I was reminded by Senor Tyson that the final mixed down, fully mastered Aluminum Falcon CD was sitting in my inbox, waiting to be heard, and I'm listening to it now, and I gotta say I'm pretty impressed. It's not as good or as cool as your band, of course, but I like it anyways! ;-) Listening to these mp3's replaces those Unfair Fight mp3's I've been rocking as of late, from their upcoming EP release, which is going to be nothing short of incredible. This one's going down in the History books, that's for sure. And those Unfair Fight mp3's replaced those No More Saints mp3's that I got from the download card that came with the Halloween colored orange and black vinyl record they sent me through the mail (Thanks Guys!), and those mp3's replaced the Dirty Panties mp3's I was listening to after buying, yes BUYING, their CD from the Squid Hat Records guys who were manning their merch booth at that Bikini Bar gig. See? I support the Scene! LOL And, bringing this all to full closure, those Dirty Panties mp3's replaced those Fat Dukes Of Fuck mp3's that I was rocking religiously ever since I got their CD Honey From The Lips Of An Angel in the mail. Yeah, all sorts of new Music in my Life, which just makes me a very happy camper indeed. Reviews on all of it forthcoming, just as soon as I find the time to do it all.
The whole point of me coming on here and typing away is to tell you about the gig last night @ Favorites. It was cool, despite the fact there were a few worthless pieces of shit in attendance that I just wanted to level. It took every bit of my being not to just go up to them and spit in their face and smash them one something proper, but I didn't, because it was Dean's first show @ Favorite's and I didn't wanna fuck things up for him with the Drama. Lemme catch you ass spelunkers somewhere else though and things will be different, I can promise you that. Despite all of this BS I had a really good time. Nate and Angie took real good care of us, we got paid a surprisingly large amount of money, and the bands were OK, although I don't think I'll have anything to do with Roid Rage from here on out. Besides all the ex-Deth Kids scumbags they have as fans, friends, whatever, they also have some of the aforementioned worthless pieces of shit in their inner circle, so I'll stay as far away from them as much as possible and avoid that Drama like the AIDS disease it is. Mersa were good but man do they need a singer... lol Watching Bob skateboard around inside the bar is always fun, and after his little disappearing act (where was he and why?) the night ended @ Filipito's eating tacos, with Bob doing his best to get us thrown out of the place by flashing drunken blonde bimbos in the drive-thru and by playing dodge ball inside the joint. Don't ask.
OK. I think I'm gonna go to the carniceria and grab some pollo and get my BBQ on before the Surrounded By Thieves gig tonight @ Favorites. Again, there's a bunch of other cool things going on tonight, like that Abyssinians show @ the Silverton (Fuuuck), Scarlett @ the Underground, the Happy Campers / 3d6 gig @ the Bikini Bar, and I even think Fiona Apple is playing tonight too, but the gig @ Favorite's is the place to be at tonight. A better trio of Local talent you won't find. Surrounded By Thieves exemplify the whole Punk Rock D.I.Y. ethos and this celebration for their latest release should be a fantastic time for all who attend. All the bands are expected to kick mucho ass tonight. I mean, the Tinglerz kill it each and every time they play, as do the Seriouslys, but they will be debuting a new drummer who's pretty darn cute looking, if I do say so myself, so yeah, as if you needed any more incentive to get off your ass and out from behind your computer, come listen to some good music and look at some unobtainable cute band members! LOL Every band member in every band is spoken for, with an assortment of girlfriends, boyfriends and wives as partners, so all you can do is looky looky - no touchy touchy! Well, maybe a little touchy touchy if nobody's looking... heh heh. So yeah, see you @ Favorites tonight. You can't miss me. I'll be the guy up front watching the bands with a camera in my hands. Say cheese! :-)
Art Art Art!! It's First Friday mañana, which means there's lots to do mucking about in the Art scene here in Vegas, what there is of it anyways. I've got 2 near and dear Friends having exhibits of their Art going on tomorrow, and I wanna bring them both to your attention. First off there's Raf, ex-American Buckshot guitarist and gnar skateboard shredder and doggy babysitter extraordinaire, putting some of his artwork up as part of that Bring The Noise group show going on @ 916 Studios, so stop by there if you're in the area, and then there's another ex-band mate of mine, Dan, currently the Vokillist of Unfair Fight and one of the nicest dudes I've ever met, he's having an exhibit at the Josephine Skaught hair salon, right next to the Artifice, so again, if you're in the area for First Friday festivities, stop by and check out their incredible artwork. They're both some talented motherfuckers and worthy of all your support. Go.
Also, Congratulations to mi compadres Jamie Jackson and Rob Ruckus for signing some big to do record contracts this week. I'm not sure just what that entails nowadays but still, it's a big deal and again, Congrats to both of ya old bastards! Let the weekly stipends and apartments in LES NYC be in your immediate future like they were after I signed my first record contract way, Way, WAAAAY back in the daze! LOL And about the scuttlebutt that arose because of these signings, I say to you both to ignore it and let the Haters hate. Pettiness and Jealousy is a motherfucker, believe me, I know. ;-) Let the shit talkers say whatever, because they'll never say it to your face and besides, it's only the Internet, which has nothing to do with the real world, right? Right!
Another thing I forgot to mention in passing is this very notable and worthy gig for an excellent cause going down this Saturday, so if you're not at the gig @ the Bikini Bar you should definitely be in attendance at this little get together going down at the Cheyenne Saloon. Yeah, yeah, I know... let it go. It's a benefit show for a little girls fight against cancer, because fighting cancer is majorly expensive, and the show is appropriately named 'Fuck Cancer'. That sentiment is both near and dear to my heart, and something I can definitely get behind 100%. Those of you who know me personally know why that is. But anyways, there's some good people involved with supporting this, and there's some good bands playing too, like Rule Of Thumb, Last Rites, Roid Rage and a few other bands I know nothing about, and all these bands are playing to help out with a little girls fight against cancer, so if you're in the area you should stop by and support a good cause and check out some cool bands. Who knows, you may even make a friend while you're there, or have an friend of your ex monitoring your every move and texting all the juicy details to your ex... heh heh heh Gawd I love this city. :-)
Ace Frehley is coming to the Santa Fe Station Casino in February!! HYPED!!! <3
Yeah, I didn't go to any of the Gigs I was hyping up last week. It wasn't that I flaked, per se, but I just chose to spend my time this weekend with the most Beautiful, Awesomest girl EVER, so yeah, sorry to all the Bands I was supposed to Interview and hang out with. Trust me when I tell you this that as much as I love going to Gigs, I love hanging with this chick even more, so I'll probably have to cut down on my going out on the weekends. Maybe. ;-)
Yeah, my fucking Raiders choked on the big one yesterday, losing a real winnable game against the Miami Dolphins, and I didn't even give a fuck. Hanging out with Her all night was worth everything. Sharks choked this weekend too, giving away an easy 2 points to Florida. Bad weekend for my Sports teams, but no matter what, I still laugh at the Anaheim Schmucks firing their Coach last week... ha ha ha ha
Speaking of stuff I'm laughing about, what happened to Roid Rage playing that Verbal Abuse gig? I guess Promoters here in town don't realize that Roid Rage have a notorious problem of booking gigs and then cancelling, but I'm not even sure if that's the case here - it's just my assumption. The Hard Pipe Hitters took over the Opening Slot and definitely made it a better gig because of it. Once those guys ditched that asshole from Infestshit, they instantly became a band worth supporting - go figure! LOL So how was the gig anyways? Did anyone go? I know I didn't. I was drained from the weekend, and it didn't help that I twisted my knee at Del Taco... heh heh How were any of the gigs that happened this weekend? Anyone?
Well, there's some cool Shows and Concerts coming up this week, like Jane's Addiction @ the Joint, but I'm not going to any of them. I have some surgery scheduled this week, and I'm kind of nervous about it but not really. Doctor's seem optimistic about it, so there's no reason why I shouldn't be, ya know? It was caught early enough and hopefully this will take care of it and I'll never have to deal with this ever again. It really fucked my head up something fierce, but thanks to my Friends and Family I was able to get through this with a generally cheery disposition. It was a false front, but I didn't wanna let too many people know about what I was going through. I'm stubborn like that. ;-) So anyways, I won't be back around until Friday, so things will slow down here for a week or so. December is generally a really bad month for me, but I'm gonna try to get through it like I always do by putting on the best fake front you've ever seen. It always works and rarely do people notice, which is how I like it.
See ya around somewhere. :=)
ha ha ha ha Where have I been? Where have YOU been? LOL All I'm hearing as of late is queries about the website being broken or why I am not updating it and why I'm not talking shit about so and so's website and how come there's no Drama going on here? hee hee hee I mean, seriously? I don't know why any of that is and I really don't care. All I know is I'm Happy and I got way more other important stuff going on right now that I can't be bothered by no jibba-jabba. And for the record, we all know that website sucks, right? Right? ;-)
In typical Stupied fashion, there is like 27,843 amazing gigs happening this weekend, starting tomorrow @ the Attic where Ministry Of Love are playing some fundraiser type thingy, so get your ass down there and support a good cause, whatever that is or whatever it is. And Friday, fuuuuuuuck, there is some seriously fantastic gigs happening. It starts off at First Friday with the almighty Pigasus making an All Ages appearance at the Gypsy Den, and then after that it's all about seeing Deadhand at the Arts Factory for another All Ages gig for the kids to go to. While you're downtown make sure to check out the Pee Wee Herman exhibit at Blackbird Studios that makes it's Grand Premier on that night too. Then you gotta be 21 and over to join in the celebration that is going to be going on for the EP release from The People's Whiskey who are, without a doubt, one of the Best Bands gigging around Vegas right now. I think the release is called 4 Tracks And Dub Sacks, but I'm not sure, and the teaser tracks I've heard from it are infuckingcredible. I can't wait to get my hands on this CD, 7", whatever it is, and just blast the shit out of it while I dance around to it in my tighty whities. :-) Yeah, that's how I roll at 4 in the morning.
In continuing with the Record Release Party them of the weekend, on Saturday it's all about partying with Surrounded By Thieves for their record release show, featuring support from their Friends and Comrades in Battle Born and the Quitters. This show is NOT to be missed and I just hope that they actually pressed this on vinyl, since it says it's a 'record release show'. Yeah, I'm a nit picker like that. ;-) Anyways, the new release is called Prophecies Of Greed and I've played a few gigs as of late with Surrounded By Thieves and I can tell you that the stuff on here sounds phenomenal. They're a really Ace band who deserve all your Love, Support and Money, so pick up their new release and buy the band some booze. You'll get a much better show if you do. ;-)
Sunday! Sunndaaay! Sunnndaaaaay! It's all about the fucking Legendary Verbal Abuse burning the Bunkhouse down to the ground in an ugly display of Power and Vulgarity all in the name of Punk Rock. Pretty awesome. Local support is being provided by Unfair Fight and Roid Rage who are apparently the coolest band on the planet, according to Pulsar, who's the Promoter for this thing. How and Why he books shitty, drama filled, gang associated trouble making shithead bands on his gigs is beyond me, but that's probably why I'll stay away from this one, which sucks because I'm a HUGE fan. Apparently, those "bands" sell tickets real easily, so I can understand why those bands get asked to play the good shows, as opposed to bands who actually play good at shows, like, any band that I'm in... LOL
Yup! It's gonna be a great weekend of Punk Rock chicanery, so dress warm, drink lots to stay warm, and get off your ass and have some FUN! :-)
