Just when you think it couldn't be as bad as you imagined it could be, then the proof comes out and it's even worse than you imagined. A Black Flag cover band is the main draw for Punk Rock Posing this year, and people are losing their minds over this? Really? I guess those people didn't see the exact same line up of karaoke stars stumble and plod their way through a few songs at the Goldenvoice 30th Anniversary show a few years ago. Here's some video footage in case you didn't see it. Watch how all the bright flashing lights make up for the fact that there's NOTHING going on on the stage, in the audience, nowhere. Yeah, so let's assume that the band learns every song that Keith actually sang on while in Black Flag (side 1 of the Everything Went Black album and the Nervous Breakdown single), and, like he does in every band he's in, Keith sings a few classic early Punk Rock songs from the L.A. era (something from the Weirdos or the Dils), and he tells his stories about how much he loves Jeffrey Lee Pierce and The Gun Club, well, let's see, that's about a half hours worth of stage time. Perfect to play a set for the Punk Rock sheeple to line up and pay to be fleeced. And no matter how hard you believe in it, I hate to break it to you, but you're not seeing Black Flag. Sucks to be you, I know. And Bad Religion? What a fucking joke. They haven't been relevant since Against The Grain. Same with The Bouncing Souls. Their last records have sucked so badly it's almost embarrassing to admit to ever liking them at one time. Sub/Hum/Ans? The Damned? OK, good choices, but they might cancel out like other bands from across the pond have done every year in the past. And the rest of the announced bands? Extremely lame. The Lower Class Brats are playing here next week @ LVCS, and I have no idea why they're playing that venue. Are they that big of a draw? Seriously? And D.R.I. just played here a few months ago - same with the $wingin' Utter$ - and I'm sorry to say, but neither one of those shows were very well attended. I have no idea why that is. I guess the secret of putting on an event like this is getting together a bunch of bands who don't draw well on their own and putting them on display in a cattle pen for everyone to stand and stare at. Whatever. Some people like seeing bands up close and intimate, and other people like seeing bands in a Cockstar environment only when it's the 'cool' thing to do. Enjoy your Punk Rock Posing sheeple. I'm planning on staying as far away as possible from that thing. :-) If you wanna get a real dose of what Punk Rock is supposed to be about, in both Music and Attitude, then come out tonight to the Artifice and check out Unfair Fight and The Fat Dukes Of Fuck. Yeah, I know the gripes about Artifice, and I'm not gonna rebut a single one of them, but when you got a lot of Friends there, hanging out, having fun, then you can really make it into a good time, which is exactly what's going to go down tonight. See ya there! 6 Comments Sunday's American Buckshot BBQ went extremely well. The libations were cold and plentiful, the fire was bright and red hot, the hot dogs were bacon wrapped and the carne asada was piled high on the plate. Chips and salsa everywhere, and a crazy ass lightning storm to cap the evening. Yup. Pretty fun stuff. And the band practice went well too. Our resident Soundman / Roadie Bob said were finally starting to sound good. I think the three piece line up is starting to kick in. Finally. We have a gig coming up in a few weeks at the Double Clown, and I'm almost positive we are no where near being close to ready, but Dean is an impatient man, and he's itching to play a gig, so there ya go. American Buckshot on the 27th of this month. There's a flyer floating around somewhere but it's too crappy for me to post up on here... heh We're like the 7th band playing on a clusterfuck of a show, but we go on first @ 10, so thankfully I'll only be there for a short while, play the gig, and then get the fuck out of there. My Friend and I from out of town have better things to do. ;-) Speaking of clusterfucks, what's up with that Bane show? LOL It's no longer happening at the Knights Hall, because the venue cancelled it last minute, and so now it's been combined with an already established gig that was happening at the Sanctuary, and Unfair Fight is no longer playing, which is the only reason why I was going to go to the gig. Phooey. No offense to Bane, because they're an alright band, but their fans are some major Tools and Dooshbags, so yeah, no Unfair Fight, no Bane gig for me! It's not worth the trouble. If you are still going though, bring some comfortable shoes because the gig has 9, count them, 9, bands playing. Ouch! Speaking of ouch, does anyone have anything good to say about the Bouncing Souls gig? LOL What did you seriously expect? More songs from Maniacal Laughter? The Good, The Bad And The Argyle? Yeah right. Those days are long gone and over, and the new material the band is touring on is just atrocious. I can't even think of the last new Bouncing Souls release that I enjoyed, and that's sad. Sorry, I guess I'm not a True Believer... hahaha Speaking of sad, the new Green Day single sucks ass. Listen to it here: soundcloud.com/greenday I spent the tail end of my Monday evening listening to Dave interview Haywood J. from the Mapes on No Sale radio (www.nosaleradio.org). The music selection was eclectic, and the chat room lively. It was pretty fun. I don't know if it's a weekly ongoing thing or what, but if it is, you should definitely tune in next week and give it a listen. You can even request stuff! My requests for KISS and the Germs could not be fulfilled. Maybe next week, no? ;-) hahaha Everything is updated. Lots of Gigs going down this weekend - including N.J. Pete's Birthday Party happening this Sat. at Motor City. The Fat Dukes Of Fuck and The Civilians are playing. Should be a fantastic time... ...and the Lamb opened the third Seal, and I heard the third living Creature say "Come and See" and behold a Black Horse, and upon him sat Death, and in its hand a pair of Scales... Piece of shit sentenced to Death for Murder Yeah, it's definitely a weird day today. Chimpanzees running crazy in the streets, Curl Up And Die announcing their getting back together, which I 'kind of' heard something about a while ago, and, of course, the Killers have a new song out called Runaways. Barf. I used to make massive fun of the Killers back when they were first starting out, but then I stopped because it bored me, but after my recent trip to the KISS mini golf place, and seeing those dooshbags in that band up on the wall as some sort of offering to ascertain the status of some of the legendary people who put Vegas on the map (like Bugsy Siegel) just makes me despise that band even more than I already do, which is saying a LOT! heh heh I thought Slaughter would of been more appropriate, but what do I know? LOL I seriously can't wait to go back to KISS mini golf - hopefully with my camera this time! Time... time to talk about some gigs. First one is this Random Orbits / Deadhand / TheCore gig going down at Yayo Taco tonight. This one totally slipped through my fingers as I had been sent the flyer weeks ago, but just never got around to putting it up on the website for whatever bong hit induced reason. It's fucking FREE and you ain't got nothing better to do tonight, so come on out and represent! :-) And then tomorrow night, besides that Bouncing Souls gig @ the HOB, there's this little interesting gig happening at Favorite's, a venue which apparently nobody likes! LOL What did you people expect? Change? Really? Same Idiots, same Drama. You can't teach an old dog new tricks, and believe me, there are some real old dogs and real old tricks inhabiting that place. Anyways, The People's Whiskey will be providing musical accompaniment to the sexy shenanigans of the Battle Born Burlesque, featuring my dear friend Lou Lou Roxy, so if you're feeling adventurous stop by. Everything's updated. I gotta run. Too Hip - Gotta Go. See you at the gigs! :-) See this handsome kid over here to the left of these words? Well, he's not a kid anymore but he's always gonna be one to me, but you see him, right? I fucking LOVE him and consider him one of the brightest bulbs in the Lite Brite board that I call my Life. I've seen him through Good times, I've seen him through Bad times, and we've always remained tight through it all, so it was with a huge grin on my face and a beautiful song in my heart when I saw the text message telling me that he was getting married in a few minutes! LOL It was all a spur of the moment kind of thing, which is kind of appropriate considering we live in a City where you can get married by a Chinese Elvis impersonator or a Jewish Mr. T impersonator at 3 in the morning if ya want to, and as badly as I wanted to be there, I couldn't, because I was stuck at band practice until late, but I'd like to think I was there in Spirit! LOL Brendan is an amazing person, and I can't help but be Happy that he found someone that he loves enough to get married to, although if I would of had the opportunity I would of tried to talk him out of doing it, but that's just because I'm a bitter old homophobic poseur, and it has nothing to do with my personal beliefs on the sanctity of Marriage! LOL Anyways, congrats to Brendan and Ashley on getting hitched, and many, many happy returns to the both of ya. XOXO I know it's a bit late in being announced on here, since everyone and their Mom was commenting about it on Facebook yesterday, but anyways here's the new video from the Gashers. It's for a song called Panic off of their upcoming release Law Is Not Order. The video debut had it's own Facebook event page, but that was a bit of a disappointment as the video didn't show up at the announced time it was supposed to. Oh well. It's out now, so enjoy. :-) Anyways, everyone is bitching about it being overtly hot right now, but I mean come on, it's fucking July in Las Vegas - it's always ferociously hot here at this time! LOL Unless you just moved here like, last week, then STFU about the heat and just turn your air conditioning up a bit more. or go swimming. That's what I'm gonna do right now! Everything's updated, and there's no way in Hell I'm going to that Bouncing Souls gig on Friday, but I put the flyer up on the front page because it's the PC Punk Rock thing to do! hahaha Yeah right. I'm not going to that gig because the new album SUCKS and the Bouncing Souls have been coasting on fumes for years now. Years. I'm sure next year when they play Jock Rock Bowling it will be "Epic" and "Amazing" and all that, but maybe it's just the bitter old poseur in me talking, but I miss when the Bouncing Souls were a GOOD band, and they were liked for what they did, and not what they've done... heh heh Hahahahaha... first off, Sorry that I said I was off to see the Uninvited in my last post when I meant to say the Unidentified. When I write this shit, I'm half way whacked out of my gourd, so you'll have to forgive me because mistakes do happen. I blame the pills. :-) Anyways, click on the Unidentified logo to get more info on what the band is up to and when their next gig is. Make sure you Like them as well. I'm kind of bummed that I missed out on the 12 Volt Sex extravaganza that went down @ the Beauty Bar last Saturday, but the appeal of standing around outside in the cold was a major deterrent. I like the band a lot, but not enough to stand around outside waiting for them. And besides, I had a Surprise Birthday party to go to, for Mike from Guilty By Association! hahaha It's always fun trying not to giggle in the dark while waiting for the Birthday boy to come into his house so you can surprise him. Mucho booze was consumed, and many a story was told / shared. Good times. Happy Birthday Sir! I hope you get that Special PBR wish you're hoping for! And speaking of Birthday's... Guess who's Birthday it is today!!! Yeah, that's right... hahahahaha Yup! It's Senor Pitt's Birthday today, and although he looks nothing like this anymore, it's this picture that, to me, best sums up what this Homo is all about... LOL Oh, the Stories I could tell but I won't, because it's all still going on. New chapters are being written every time we get together and do what we do, which usually consists of us hanging out somewhere and talking shop about Music and Bands and shit we got going on. The guy knows his shit, and even though he's a Corporate Whore for the Man now, I still Love him like a Brother. Happy Birthday Pitt, you old Queen! Many Happy Returns Sir! XOXOXOXO So yeah, Punk Rock Bowling. It's got everyone talking, that's for sure. I understand the gripes, I see what the criticism is all about, and I know the good (very little) and the bad (a whole LOT!) of it all but you know what? It doesn't matter, because I'm gonna be there, and you're gonna be there, and that's that. Unless something else comes along more fun to do, then that's my plan for Memorial Day weekend, just as it's yours. Last year I didn't sleep, last year I didn't see 1 band that played, and I didn't give a shit because I was too busy drinking and hanging out with my Friends. I expect it will be much of the same, if not more so, this year, now that PRB isn't happening in Hendertucky this year, thank Gawd. If it wasn't for the Descendents, and maybe Killing Joke, then I wouldn't even be bothering to buy a ticket to get in. Every other band SUCKS or just has no reason being on the bill. Black Pacific? Really? The Krum Bums? Flask And His Flask? Dirty Filthy Mugs? Who's dick did they take in the ass to get on the bill? LOL Maybe it's because most of the bands announced so far have played here in Vegas to like, 10's or sometimes 20's of people that I'm not hyped on seeing them on a big stage from like, thousands of feet away (Citizen Fish @ East Side Joe's: 20 people there. The Dwarves @ Boomer's: 75 people there. Off With Their Heads @ the Bunkhouse: 50 people there) or maybe it's the fact that I saw some of these bands in their prime when they were good, and I can't imagine them getting better with age (Stiff Little Fingers, Cock Sparrer? Really? 3 good songs they have, and that's being generous. The Bouncing Souls? Do people still like them? And don't get me going on how ghey the Dropkick Murphys are, and the Undertones without Feargal Sharkey is just a cover band farce). Personally, I'm hoping that all the Drama that I think is going to ensue @ PRB will happen, with the contingent of loser punk kids who will come out of the woodwork to see craptacular bands like Leftover Crack who will either try to avoid paying to get in, because, let's face it, paying to get into a gig is sooooooooooo not Punk, or the smelly dirt bags will be giving Security their grief, in their never ending quest to Smash the State and Overthrow the Government from the safety of their Mommy and Daddy's house in Green Valley. Fucking Poseurs. So yeah, that's my take on Punk Rock Bowling. It's the 13th Annual. Let's hope it's the last one ever because let's face it, most of you wouldn't even bother attending if it was held out in California, now would you? Of course not. Neither would I. Wowsers! Jillian's is a pretty cool place! Thanks to everyone that came out, especially Jenn and Devon & Aaron and Rick, my "Drum Tech from Hell"... heh heh heh. Now he's got a new drum set to learn to break down and set up. Our new tour van is incredible, and I can't help but think about all the fun times we're gonna have coming up while driving that thing 'till the wheels come off! And yes, Pitt is paying for it, but consider that without his PARENTS help, he'd have no van to pay for! And besides, he's gonna be the one to fuck it up and break shit on it, so it's only fair that he pay for it, since he doesn't pay for ANYTHING else, especially bumpers! hahahahaha The new Loud Pipes shirt designs look amazing, and they will be available at the next shows, along with the 4 song demo. We played a new song as an instrumental last night, and I'm not sure I liked doing that. The Billy Idol cover was cool though... heh heh heh. More updates to the web site include the ability to click on Pictures now, and Music Reviews on the latest from the Bouncing Souls... MXPX and Ziggy Marley. The BBQ last night was super fun, even though we didn't play Wiffle Ball... oh well. |
