You know when things aren't updated on here that I'm up to something. Sometimes it something Silly, sometimes it's something Stupid, and sometimes it's something Serious. These past few days have been amalgamation of all that. Doesn't matter though. I'm always there when I can be, and I know my Friends are the same way. <3 That's why they're my Friends, and that's why some people are not. The other night @ Jesse & Roxie's Jesse asked me if I had ever heard of a movie called Searching For Sugar Man. I told him No, and he proceeded to show me this flick about this 70's recording artist named Rodriguez, who recorded a few LP's in the 70's and then faded into obscurity, except for in South Africa, where he was considered a Legend and his records outsold the records of Elvis, Beatles and the Rolling Stones combined. No one, not even his record label, knew what happened with the artist named Rodriguez. Some said he killed himself on stage after being heckled, some said he committed suicide by setting himself on fire, and some said he was doing life in prison after killing his lover. Lots of rumors but nobody knew anything definite. This movie is about 2 guys from South Africa who go on a mission to find out just what exactly happened to the Artist and the Man named Rodriguez, and it's one of the most enthralling movies I've ever seen. I love stuff like this. Everybody should see Searching For Sugar Man. It's been nominated for an Academy Award. It's that good. So yeah, it's my Birthday this Sat. It fucking sucks getting Old, but much better than the alternative. To add to the morbidity of the event, I'm playing a gig at the fucking Double Clown. Holy Jesus. What did I do to deserve this? I always seem to play a gig on my birthday. Last year it was a gig with The Heroine at the Bikini Bar, where I woke up the morning after with mashed potatoes in my underwear. This year it's at the Double Clown with a couple of bands called Soto St. from CA. and Skull Drug, from AZ., who I've never heard of or know nothing about, and I'm too lazy to Google and find out about. Besides, I like to find out about bands when I'm actually standing there in front of them and watching and listening to them, not from some shitty YouTube videos. Oh well. Should be a fun and interesting night. I'm gonna be there, some of my Friends are gonna be there, and I guarantee that it's going to be a much better performance than the last time the Vegascendents played there, where I ended up in the hospital immediately afterwords. Not happening this time. Nope. :-) Everything is updated. I'm off to dream. Hopefully... Add Comment Well, that was an interesting night! ;-) So as the Cop is pulling me over, literally a block from my freaking house, I couldn't help but smile at what a strangely disappointing night it had all been! LOL It wasn't because of the bands though, because the $wingin' Utter$ were fucking great, playing a shitload of new songs from their upcoming album and every now and then dipping into their amazing back catalog to play some songs that were written, according to Johnny Peebucks, when the band was a bit feistier. :-) It was fucking glorious, even with the turnout being a bit on the low side, but I didn't care. I prefer seeing bands in small, intimate venues as opposed to in a parking lot on a stage 50 yards away from me. I guess all the 'real punx' will see the $wingin' Utter$ play at PRB next year, and brag on Facebook about how epic it is seeing them play in Vegas. Whatever. I saw them at the Bunkhouse in front of an intimate rowdy crowd. It was the shit. <3 Spotted Dick opened up the gig with some crazy ass early So.Cal sounding Punk tuneage that brought to mind bands like the Simpletones or the Skulls. It's made up of Joe and John from 1/2 Ast and J-Sin from the Gashers. They were fucking fantastic and played a set that just had me standing there going 'Wow' the whole time. Looking forward to seeing lots more of them in the future. They were really good. People said we were good too, and I think we played a set that was pretty rocking. People dug it and that's all that mattered. The band nobody dug was that Roll The Tanks band. They played their crappy pop punk music to a disinterested crowd that wasn't impressed and couldn't care less. Oh well. They were one of the few disappointments of the night. I didn't get my ass kicked like I was promised, even though I wore a onethirtyeight.org shirt to make my identification easier, and I didn't fall for the bait that was being thrown my way by that crazy ex-girlfriend of mine, despite her best efforts. I saw it all sweetheart. I wasn't impressed. No, instead, I just reveled in the moment of being with my Friends and enjoying the night and everything that it brought to me. I ignored the Haters and the people who used to talk to me regularly and who now don't for some reason, preferring the company of people with a sense of humor who could have a laugh at it all and who weren't all PC butt hurt hypocrites. Life's too short, and I got better things to do people - waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy better things to do. ;-) Like this! Going to see the Jesus And Mary Chain! LOL How many years ago was it that the band was supposed to play the House of Boooooo's and then cancelled for no reason? Yeah, those crazy Reid brothers are a volatile couple indeed, but ever since their triumphant return to performing live with their reunion gig @ SXSW earlier this year, the band have been playing some West coast dates sporadically and treating their fans to a set that is just chock full with their feedback laden pop dirges that both captivate your ears and get your head bobbing along to what the band is throwing out there. I'm a fan, and it's been a while since I've seen them play live, so yeah, I'm kind of hyped on seeing them play tonight. Lots of people I know and love say they're gonna be there tonight, so it should be a fun filled event indeed. I know it's not sold out, so if you got the urge to get your 90's alternative music groove on, you can't do much better than the Jesus And Mary Chain. Just Like Honey. Never Understand. Some Candy Talking. Enough said. If I wasn't already committed to seeing the Jesus And Mary Chain, this is the gig I would be at - The Heroine and The People's Whiskey @ the Bunkhouse. There are a couple of other bands opening up the gig that I know nothing about, but still, the price of admission is worth it just for these 2 bands alone. The Heroine just fucking kill it each and every time they play, with their infectious Punk Rock and Roll music guaranteed to get you off your ass and clapping your hands along to the beat, and even though they just played here back in Feb., that is no excuse to not to get off your ass and head downtown to see these guys fuck shit up. They are fucking great and one of my favorite bands gigging around as of late. Same with The People's Whiskey. These guys are still one of the Best bands Vegas has to offer, and with them working on a new album, you're sure to hear them play a few new songs in their set tonight. Hopefully they don't neglect to play some of their better songs, like Fist Fights And Miller Lites, Pills, Empty Promises And Broken Dreams and Tall Cans. It's gonna be such a great gig. I seriously don't think I'm gonna make it out to it though, so I'm envious of those of you who are, you lucky bastards. I don't think I'm gonna make it to Reggae In The Desert today. You see, as the Cops were taking the handcuffs off of me and making me sign the chickenshit tickets they issued to me, some scumbag tow tuck driver was hooking up my car to be taken away to some tow yard that's gonna cost me hundreds of dollars to get it out of. They wouldn't let me drive my car the whole 1 block to my house because 'it's illegal to operate a vehicle with expired tags on any Nevada roadway'. Yeah, I had expired tags and didn't even know it. Oh well, like I said, after everything that went on last night at the gig, and everything that didn't go on at the gig, and Hell, even the things that went on after the gig, I figure this was the least of my worries. And if this is the worse thing that happened to me last night, well, I'm cool with that too. It was worth it. ;-) Besides being deathly ill, which I'm assuming came about from being drunk and soaking wet and running around in the streets of Denver at 2 o'clock in the morning, there's a huge reason why I haven't been updating the website as much lately, a reason that's not involved with my band practice schedule or my lack of sleeping schedule, and that reason is this asshole right here - Bob. If he's not over at my house drinking my beers and soda and eating all the candy from the candy drawer (if you've been to my house you know all about the candy drawer), he's usually around the perimeter of any gigs I'm playing or attending, either as my Roadie or as a Spectator, annoying everyone by talking too much or telling his 'One Up' stories, shooting pictures with his new Kodak camera which I gave him, which he annoyingly sticks in everyone's face, whether they want their pictures taken or not, or he's riding around on his skateboard, doing tricks and bombing hills he has no business trying to ride down, with the usually predictable results. As soon as I can get a copy of that video from Bob from Guilty By Association, I'll show you what I'm talking about. ;-) And now he's got me hooked on playing video games for hours upon hours, anything and everything but usually some sort of racing game, which we play until the sun starts to rise, so yeah, if you're wondering why everything has come to a crawl around here, it's because of Bob - sound man extraordinaire, skateboarding maniac, and all around good guy. He has a fan page called All Hail Bob, and you can become a fan of his by clicking here. That guys gonna take over the world someday - wait and see. OK, there's a whole bunch of shit going on this weekend, including Reggae In The Desert 2012 on Sat. which has a terrible, terrible lineup this year. Any show that has one of Bob Marley's illegitimate do-nothing kids as a headliner is not in the cards for me. I'm not even sure if I'm going to the thing this year. I do know I'm going to see the Jesus And Mary Chain at the HOB on Sat. with a super rad chick that makes me smile, so that should be fun. :-) Hopefully the band decides to show up this time and not cancel like they did last time they were scheduled to play Vegas. If I'm lucky I can convince my friend to go with me after the show to head downtown to see The Heroine and The People's Whiskey blow the roof off of the Bunkhouse Saloon. That gig is going to be AMAZING, with 2 bands that are kick ass playing on the same stage. Is there anything else of merit going on in Las Vegas? LOL Yeah, that's the beauty of living here - either there's absolutely nothing going on, or there's so much going on that you have to make plans and decisions to see either this band play or that band play. It kind of sucks but whatever. At least we have the options, ya know? A lot of places don't. Which brings us to this gig right here, going down tonight. Oh, the Drama and Shenanigans that will take place here tonight will make you want to be there to witness it all, even if you don't like the bands playing! LOL I've gotten no less than 3 threats of ass beatings waiting for me tonight at this gig, and if even one of them gets handed to me, I would be kind of impressed - finally, someone who does what they say they're gonna do on the Internet - how Punk Rock of you! ha ha ha Not to mention the fact that a stupied ex-girlfriends of mine and all her shit talking cunt friends will be there in attendance too and well, you can just kind of foresee the Drama that is forthcoming, right? LOL Oh, this is what the $wingin' Utter$ do to us when they play here, but the beautiful part of all this is that I'm actually going to get to see them play this time, as opposed to the last time in SF when I had to babysit some drunken fool who went out of her way to embarrass me and ruin what was supposed to be a fun filled evening in the City by the Bay. Oh well. Like I said, it should be a very interesting evening indeed. The $wingin' Utter$ are a fantastic band, the band I'm playing in is pretty good too, and I don't know anything about the other 2 bands. I'm gonna get there early to see how they weaseled their way on the bill though. It always pays to have friends in high places and in headlining bands, don't it? ;-) Everything is updated. Jesse from Cowtown Guitars is being interviewed by Donny Osmond later this morning on TV somewhere, and I can't wait to see that footage. Jesse's being interviewed about this Guitars For Autism thing that they're spearheading, and you can find out more about it by going to the Cowtown Guitars website by clicking here. I added some pictures of Kids On Fire playing @ the Aruba a few weeks back, and you can go here to check those out, or just go to the Pictures page to see what you've missed out on. I also added the photos I took of Surrounded By Thieves playing @ the Double Clown a while back, and you can go here to check those out. Yeah, I'm slowly but surely catching up on things here, so expect a whole bunch of stuff to be added up here soon. As long as Bob doesn't distract me, that is... heh heh Wow, what a weekend. 3 people I know got arrested this weekend - 2 of them for some serious charges, 1 for just being an idiot. It wasn't a good weekend for them, that's for sure. Me personally, I blame the solar eclipse or whatever that stupid thing was that everyone was all gaa gaa over for the abnormal behavior. It's always amazing to me that people feel the need to re-post over and over ad nauseam on Facebook things that are all over the media. You're not a news reporter people. Hey, let's keep people's minds off the important stuff like what's going on in Chicago at the NATO convention by bombarding them with inane stuff that's vapid and meaningless like a solar eclipse! Fucking sheeple I swear. This gig flyer just popped up this weekend. I fucking hate the Griffin but I love Deadhand, so you can see my dilemma. I don't know who Rusty Maples are, but I'm sure I won't like them... heh heh I made the trek out to the Silverton on Sat. to see Don Carlos, only to find out the gig had been moved to the Hard Rock and that it had started an hour earlier. Fuck. I didn't feel up to making the trek to the Hard Rock on a Sat. night so I just called it and went Home. Band practice has been killing me of late, so I need all the rest I can get. It's the calm before the storm known as Punk Rock Bowling, which has now achieved the same dooshbag gathering of Poseurs status that the Viva Rockasilly thing has. Whatever. The band that I think I'm officially now a member of, Guilty By Association, is playing 2 gigs for PRB, and it sure would be nice to see a few familiar faces at either one of them... hint hint Robin Gibb passed away this weekend, which was sad. The dude fought the good fight. Donna Summer passed away a few days earlier. Both of those artists music was like the soundtrack to the 70's. It was everywhere. You know you're getting old when Disco stars start dying off. ;-) And, just to show you they always die in 3's, Chuck Brown preceded them all. Damn. You can even do another recent three celebrities with Carrol Shelby, the car dude, Vidal Sassoon, the hair dude, and George Lindsey, aka the Goober dude on The Andy Griffith Show. *Le sigh* And Abe Vigoda laughs at them all. Everything is updated. I added the Surrounded By Thieves photos to the website, and you can click here to check them out. Weebly just did some kick ass improvements this weekend, so I've been redesigning and reconfiguring everything on here. You can now comment on everything individually, so I re-added all the photos in the new format, as well as a bunch of Music Reviews that I don't think were up before, stuff from bands like The Heroine, Too $hort, The Toy Dolls, Anthrax, Metallica, Die Laughing, and a few other bands I'm not remembering right now, so go to the page and check all that out. I'm up early so I'm gonna get back to updating everything to the new format. It's a Monday, a day like any other day, a day to nerd out on my website and get shit done! :-) I am gonna try to recount the past week's nocturnal activities, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to fail miserably. I really can't do any of it justice. It was soooooo much fun! :-) Let me just Thank everyone for participating, and making my 38th Birthday one of the best ever! LOL Hmmmmm, so let's see. My Birthday celebrating started on Weds. playing a gig where I broke my kick drum skin from kicking it so hard. It's been a while since I've done that... heh heh Anyways, If you missed out on seeing The Heroine tear shit up last Weds. @ the Bikini Bar then you're seriously retarded. Seriously. They were fantastic. Check out the video below for proof. The People's Whiskey played a phenomenal set, with everyone in the place (except for a drunken old skateboarding sound guy from the Double Clown) loving everything that they played. They blew the roof off of the joint and I was right there up front and center to watch them do it, loving every minute of it. The People's Whiskey. Check them out if you haven't already. Their Facebook page is right here. :-) The Quitters never cease to amaze me with their fantastic sounding songs of Punk praise, and they've added a second guitar player to the mix, although, to be fair, he was playing through some crappy equipment or something, because he could barely be heard, and when he was heard, he sounded like crap. Oh well. The Quitters still melted faces, but I could of done without the drum solo from Micah. Drum solo? Really? At a bar? LOL And I finally got to see the Reverend Lord's Unholy Saints, and could see what everyone was saying about them. Me personally, I couldn't tell if it was yodeling or Rockasilly, so I just called it Yodelbilly and left it at that. Yeah, it was a fun night @ the Bikini Bar. Thanks again to everyone for coming out - and just who was that crazy girl who kept rrrrrrolling herrrrrr prrrrrrronunciation of the letterrrrrrrrr 'R'rrrrrrrrrr? ha ha ha ha Thursday was all about Recovery. Friday night I got arrested for Felony Concealed Weapons charges right in front of Sin's condo complex. Yeah, apparently a Leatherman in the glove compartment and a pair of old rusty scissors behind your passengers seat constitute Concealed Weapons Felonies, so yeah, that was funny. Don't drive suspiciously in the rich part of town is all I gotta say. LOL I got bailed out in a few hours and was back on the streets by 3 am. My Lawyer laughed about it and said not to worry. I told him I wasn't, and that's why I pay him the big, big bucks for. I was telling people @ the Bikini Bar on Weds. that I was going to get arrested on my Birthday. I just didn't know what for. I just had a feeling. It was waaaaayyy over-due. ;-) I woke up Sat. with a bad case of the CCDC flu, and after scrubbing it off of me I picked up Sin from just outside the scene of my arrest and headed down to the Motor City Cafe to catch Pigasus and The Swamp Gospel and Sweet Justice, who cancelled for some reason or another. Boooooooooo. Oh well. The 2 Local bands used the extra time allotted to play some cool ass music, with the Swamp Gospel playing some Cramps derived Rock And Roll, and with Pigasus playing a set that would of had the approval of Iggy And The Stooges. Fun night, which ended waaaaayyy too early in the morning, and led to a steady stream of vomit all the way down Flamingo Blvd. ;-) Sunday, SOMEBODY had stuff to do at 10:30 in the morning, which led me to spending the day avoiding the urge to bite people's faces off, and crashing out early that evening. So yeah, that's my Birthday Binge in a nutshell. I'm leaving out the fine details like the Sex, Drugs, and late night Fellipilito's runs, but you get the gist of what I'm saying, right? Anyways, Thanx to everyone for the Gifts, and let's do it again next year, OK? Everything is updated. Pictures of The Heroine are up and available here for your perusal, and in case you didn't see the flyer on your way in here, The Bronx are playing at the Double Down for Valentine's Day, and it's an Invite-Only event, but that doesn't mean you can't go. Use your brain, be creative, and I'm sure you'll be able to get in. Maybe... heh heh heh Rastafari! Haile Selassie! Praise Jah! :-) It's Tuesday, which just means more videos from Reggae In The Desert this past weekend! Woo hoo! Here's Mykal Rose performing the Black Uhuru classic Shine Eye Gal. The Man is smoooooooooooth personified. And here's another one from Freddie McGregor, performing a medley of some of his classic hits Let Him Try, Loving Pauper, and I Was Born A Leader. This is the Legendary Don Carlos performing Rude Boy (Go Easy). The Man still has some dance moves! ;-) The annoying bitch screaming couldn't be avoided. She was standing right next to me. My photo camera is broken, which is why I've been shooting nothing but video lately. I gotta find a place here in town that fixes cameras, although I'm really getting burned out on taking them. The limits of the format are getting to me. As of now, I like doing video more. It's a simpler, easily shareable, more accessible format that really allows you to get a feel of how the gig was and what it was all about. I bought a Sony HD Webbie camera back in 2009 and it sat unopened in a box on a shelf for over a year before I touched it. I have no idea why. My Brother Victor gave me a Flip camera for Christmas, telling me the website needed more videos on it, and I'm starting to embrace the idea. We'll see how long it lasts. Andy from Surrounded By Thieves sent me this flyer for his upcoming gig, and I post it up here to make a point. Bands, you need to promote! I hate turning down invites to gigs that I get sent 24 hours beforehand, usually because I've already made plans days or weeks ahead. And I definitely ain't gonna track down flyers to promote your gigs on my own time, so get off your apathetic asses and send that flyer you took a whole 3 minutes putting together out! LOL Facebook invites aren't the only way to spread the word about your upcoming gig. Stop being lazy. Promote! And go to this gig @ Yayo Taco next month with Surrounded By Thieves. ;-) Just like yesterday, I'm gonna leave you with a video I've been sitting on for a while now, shot @ Jake's Bar in Lake Havasu when 3 Las Vegas bands invaded that place for a night of drunken shenanigans last month. Here's the Happy Campers doing a song called Buried Alive, and Thanx to Mr. Charisma himself Chad for telling me the name of it. <3 And The Heroine and The People's Whiskey are playing @ the Divebar tonight! Should be a fun gig. See ya there! |
