I woke up this afternoon to this link in my email: an intelligent story written by my friend Jarret Keene about Curl Up And Die and their most excellent album from like 10 years ago We Are All Robots that reflects a bit on the bands legacy and the whole awesomeness of that seminal release. It's on the Punks In Vegas website, which is a whole contradiction in terms that I don't even wanna get into, but it's definitely worth a read and you can click here to check that shizzle out. It's really good. Oh, I remembered what I wanted to bring up here - the Madness stuff! :-) As you can see, the Pictures are already posted, and you can click here to see those, and I finished the Show Review for the gig too, and you can click here to read that if you're so inclined. I'm no Jarret Keene but I do alright with the words. LOL I'm not a Writer, nor am I a Photographer. I'm just a music fan who wants to let people know about all the cool things that go on here in Vegas, and to give you an opinion on things I know about and observe, that's all. Take it or leave it, I don't give a fuck. Anyways, yeah, the Madness show review is the 1st one of the year that I've made public. I write lots of them, but I don't publish them because they're just gonna cause Drama with whatever band I'm critiquing, and really I just can't be bothered. I got better shit to do. Too many people take what I write seriously. It's pretty funny. Everything is updated. New stuff added, old stuff taken off. I fixed the Videos page and linked everything up to my YouTube channel, which you can find by clicking here. I made Public some videos that I had no info on or didn't hear back from the band about, like the Pigasus @ the Cheyenne video, the Dirty Panties @ Vamp'd video, The People's Whiskey @ Motor City Cafe and a few others I can't remember about right now. Anyways, they are all linked up and available on the newly updated Videos page, and you can click right here to check all of those out. It's a nice way to spend an afternoon at work, or so I'm told... heh heh. I gotta get ready for band practice. Go to that Deer Tick gig @ the Aruba tonight to support Zach Ryan & The Renegades, a bunch of cool guys that now feature Danny, the Prince of Drummers, on keyboards. He may have to relinquish that title pretty soon if this keyboards thing keeps up... heh heh heh
heh heh heh Detroit Rock City - funny movie. :-) And it's 4:20 in the morning... suhhh-weeeet! I did fuck all this weekend and it felt pretty good. I mean, I was doing 2 a day band practices - each practice with a different band, which will definitely keep you on your toes, that's for sure. I broke my drum kick pedal during the process, and by that I mean the steel bar that makes the pedals move just broke, like, snapped in two... weird. Bringing the Thunder each and every time. Yup! Thankfully Sunday's practice with Pigasus was called off, because Jesse & Roxie bid on some trip to Disneyland at some 80's themed auction the night before and they won, so for her Birthday they drove out to Anaheim, and they're even getting the star treatment because of Jesse's association with that Pawn Stars show. That is sooooo funny it's cool! LOL Couldn't happen to 2 nicer people. I'm sure they're gonna have the greatest time there. Not as good a time as when the Loud Pipes went there, but still... heh heh Congrats to Demon Lung on their CD release party. Kudos for whoever kicked the creepy drunk guy in the face at that same gig. I didn't wake up on Saturday morning to read anything about any naked, drunken escapades leading to any arrests in Hendertucky, so I can only assume that The People's Whiskey 420 party went well and stayed within Legal boundaries. Bob tried to tell me about The Dirty Panties gig @ the Double Clown, but he wasn't making any sense, so I'm guessing it was a fun time had by all. That's how it's supposed to be. Everyone Happy and having Fun. :-) Thanks to everyone for your concerns about me, but I'm fine. Seriously. Everything is updated. New photos of Vihan Rytmi were posted last week (click here to see them) but I forgot to tell anyone about them, and I just posted the photos I took of Deadhand @ the Double Clown a little while ago, and you can click here to see them. I'm gonna go back to listening to Stern before I get some sleep. I gotta wake up early to get a kick drum pedal at Guitar Center before band practice. Pigasus is playing @ the Bar & Bistro this Sat. night for Bobby Franks Birthday Party, and then on Cinco de Mayo @ the Arts Factory with the Mapes - get HYPED!! <3
Fuck you Texas de Brazil!! LOL
After driving around for about 40 minutes, up and down Las Vegas Blvd. and Sunset, and missing the majority of the Sharks / Blues game, I finally gave up on finding the place and headed Home. I was supposed to meet everyone up there for Jack from Pigasus' Birthday party, and I purposefully avoided eating all day just so I could scarf down once I got there, but alas, apparently it was not meant to be, as I just ended up grabbing a shitload of grub from Felipilito's and raced Home to watch the Sharks lose 2-1. It's over Johnny. Fire Wilson. Trade Marleau. Clean all the old crap out of the system and start anew. Such a fucking disappointment. Ugh. Oh well. Better Luck next year boys. Enjoy your tee off times during the Summer.
I think I joined another band... LOL My weekend is booked solid with band rehearsals. I need to start learning how to say 'No'... LOL
Dude! It's 420 tomorrow, which means absolutely fuck all to anyone but the pot smoking Hippies and those who emulate said ignorant lifestyle, but, there's lots of ridiculously stupid marijuana themed gigs going on this weekend, including one gig where they're gonna be raffling off a half an ounce of weed. Lots of places are giving away brownies (wink wink) and various paraphernalia which will get you arrested for a Felony if you're caught with said contraband on your person, so be careful or best yet, just avoid the whole thing altogether and stay away from those gigs. After all, if you have to give away free weed and drugs to get people to come to your gigs, well that doesn't say too much about your band now does it? ;-) The only thing worth doing is heading down to Yayo Taco to help Demon Lung celebrate their CD release. The EP is called Pareidolia, and it will be available for your stoned purchasing pleasure at the gig. Support provided by Dead Neon and a few other bands. Click on the flyer below for all the info.
Or, if you're really feeling brave, head out to Hendertucky and see The People's Whiskey play at the Gold Mine Tavern. The jails in Henderson are much better, with tastier food and a much better clientele of criminals in there. Believe me, I know. ;-) Or you could go see Unfair Fight and the Hard Pipe Hitters fuck shit up @ the Cheyenne Saloon. Either or. Do something on 420 besides revel in the ignorance of the holiday. For those of us who smoke weed everyday, 420 is a day the amateurs come out of the woodwork to prove how down they are, sort of like how everyone turns Irish on St. Patrick's Day, but lamer. And gheyer, if that's possible. ;-)
It's all a blur. Can't stay up. Can't eat. Can't drink anymore. It's like 11 in the morning and I got to be at Camel Hump in like 2 hours to go and try to salvage my drum sound on that Aluminum Falcon recording. And after that I got Pigasus practice. Somebody help me... ha ha ha I wish I could write down all the amazing stories and things that happened to me and the things I saw at the Madness gig last night, but I can't. Maybe it will come back to me later, I dunno. What I do know is that I had the most fun I've had in a long, long time. Telling stories, listening to stories being told, sharing drinks, having a laugh, catching up, getting lost, you know, just having fun! :-) Anyways, I'm passing the fuck out. Go see The People's Whiskey tonight at the Bunkhouse. I don't think I'm gonna make that gig... heh
I am soooooooooo in Love with Squeeze right now - even more than I ever was, if that's possible. They were incredible last night, basically playing everything from the Singles - 45's And Under release, with a few obscure songs that were definitely treats for us fans, stuff like In Quintessence, If I Didn't Love You, Heaven and Bang Bang from their very first album. My fucking jaw dropped as I haven't heard them play that song in like 30 years. Fucking Wow!!! In the early days, sure, but now, not really, as the band pretty much sticks to a give-the-people-what-they-want aspect of playing the Hits, although the band gets to stretch it's musical muscle on some newer, latter day material that's almost jam band, Rolling Stones like shit, but I forgave them for that little hippy-ish indiscretion. The crowd was tame, but the waitress service was fun, with the old folks in the crowd standing in nicely organized rows, allowing the waitresses to keep bringing me those splendid 32oz. drafts without any trouble. The more I drank, the better the band sounded. Go figure, right? ha ha ha There I was, a big dude in a Sharks jersey, jumping around and rocking out to Squeeze, singing along to almost every gawd damn song they played and just having the time of my Life in a crowd where there was seriously no one under the age of 30 in the place. Ha Ha Ha Ha I did not give a FUCK because sometimes it's good to be an old dude because you can appreciate the songwriting Genius of Mr's Difford and Tilbrook and the Music that they have created. The band was incredible. It was the same line up of players that I saw when Squeeze played the Crown Theater inside the Rio a few years ago (click here to see the photos I took that night) and like a fine wine, they've only gotten better with age. <3 Gawd damn do I love me some Squeeze. I bought all kinds of swag as I left the place. It was gaudy and all over-priced and I didn't care. :-) Right before the gig I was watching the live feed on YouTube of Coachella 2012, and I gotta say, it was pretty sweet. I watched Jimmy Cliff's set, which was fantastic, despite the presence of that dooshbag Tim Armstrong in Mr. Cliff's backing band. It took me a while to recognize that Jimmy Cliff was doing a Rancid cover, but once I did... BARF!! ha ha ha I Can See Clearly Now was great, with the storm clouds off in the distance over the mountains, and, of course, The Harder They Fall, which is a Spiritual fucking classic. The set ended too quickly for me. The crowd seemed to dig it though, so that was good. And then came Madness. They sounded a bit ruff during the opener One Step Beyond, and they were missing Bedders on bass, but I gotta say, they sounded GREAT!! Suggs voice was in fine form, Woody is always on the beat, Chrissy Boy was playing Johnny Thunders riffs in between songs, Mike was pounding the keyboards in the back and Lee is just a madman, coming out dressed like some Chinese citizen from 1792 and just acting like the lunatic that he is, jumping around and up on the monitors, and mugging for the camera whenever possible. Best line of the night came from Chas, who said "I'm too old for this shit." LOL Second best was Lee asking the crowd "Does anyone have any drugs?" ;-) The highlight of the set was when they did Night Boat To Cairo, with the dual horn intro that sounded SICK, and that fucking crazy kid in the audience who was dressed up like the band were in the video for the song, crowd surfing with the biggest smile on his face while Madness played. That's what going to gigs is all about - having FUN!!! Oh my gawd I cannot wait to see Madness tonight. <3 If you're not going to the Madness gig tonight (I can't imagine why you're not though) there's other stuff going on. I had the date wrong about the Seriouslys gig @ the Motor City Cafe. It's tonight, not yesterday. If you're not going to that you should go to the Ignite / Guilty By Association / The Happy Campers / N.E. Last Words gig at the Aruba. Deadhand dropped off the gig because they don't do Pay to Play. Good for them. I couldn't be prouder. :-) And oh, I lost that video I shot of them doing Singing For You @ the Double Clown on Thurs. My iPhone took a shit, and when I took it down to the Apple store for them to fix it, they said they didn't know what was wrong with it, because it didn't show any signs of abuse/damage. It just couldn't be accessed, so I lost everything on it. Oh well. I got a brand new iPhone out of it, which will be majorly used tonight at Madness. I got Pigasus practice beforehand, so I'm gonna go try and get some sleep. These past few days have been AMAZING, and tonight is just going to be the capper of it all. It's always good seeing your old Friends. :-) Have a great weekend everyone. I know I am! Oh, and go see The People's Whiskey and the Hard Pipe Hitters tomorrow night @ the Bunkhouse!
So I get this call at like 3 in the morning from a really good friend of mine, who was a bit shaken up after dealing with the Police and Paramedics. Her boyfriend had just beaten her up pretty badly, and she was in a bit of a state of shock. She said she called me because she knew I would be up at that time in the morning. I talked her off the ledge she was on, calming her down and assuring her that everything was going to be OK, and just did my best to be there for her in her time of need. Catch me on a good day and I'm the greatest guy in the world. Catch me on a bad day and apparently I'm an asshole - or a prophet. ;-)
Is it Thursday yet? LOL I'm anxiously awaiting Game 1 of the Playoffs and to see Deadhand. :-) They're playing that crazy ass Ignite gig this Saturday, but I can't go to that gig because I'm gonna be at Madness that night, so I'm gonna sneak into the Double Clown tomorrow and see them and then get the Hell out of that sullied establishment. After all, I can't have my stellar reputation degenerate any lower than it already is, now can I?
Yeah, I'm totally gheying out on my 80's weekend but I don't care. There is other stuff going on, like this cool Seriouslys gig @ the Motor City Cafe on Friday night, and, yeah, like I said earlier, that Ignite gig on Saturday. Guilty By Association, the Happy Campers and Deadhand are opening. That gig is gonna be FUN! Steel Pulse is playing the Silverton on Sat. too. Man I'd love to see them, but I got a better chance of seeing them again sometime soon than I do of seeing Madness here ever again. Wasn't the last time in 1998 @ the Texas?? I know I was there... sort of... ha ha ha Whatever. There's that interesting gig @ the Bunkhouse on Sunday with The People's Whiskey, Holding Onto Sound, the Hard Pipe Hitters and some band called The Horn Prayer from Colorado. I just might check that out. :-) Anyways, everything is updated. Pictures of Nests @ the Arts Factory and The People's Whiskey @ the Motor City Cafe were just added. Click here and here to check those out. The weather has been beautiful as of late. It's Springtime. Time to start planning road trips, right? Right!
ha ha ha Was Surrounded By Thieves heckling me from the stage??? Those bastards! LOL Yeah, I don't know exactly what they were saying about me on stage, but I'm hoping it was all in jest, because if it wasn't, Ohhhhh, I'm gonna get those guys! ;-) But seriously, I was having too much fun just hanging out with everyone who came out to the gig to either see Aluminum Falcon, The People's Whiskey or Surrounded By Thieves, or to hear me dole out details on what happened between Shawna Lynn and me to really pay much attention to what the band was playing... heh heh Sorry guys. Look, I know you all want me to blast her on here, and just do to her what I did to Athena or Debra, but it's not gonna happen. She isn't even worth the effort, and the fact that her name and reputation are now dog shit in this town, I'd prefer to just leave her as the walking dead piece of shit that she is and let her sleep in the mess that she made of her Life. I'm over it. it's done. It's all Comedy to me. And yeah, that thing that happened with her kid could be considered Karma to those of you who believe in that shit. I don't but whatever. Bad things happen to bad people. Sad but true. What can I say about the gig @ the Motor City Cafe that you probably don't already know? The People's Whiskey just keep on impressing the Hell out of me with their amazing catalog of work, and each set I see them play is different and never boring. They are seriously great and I hope they just keep getting more and more popular here in the City, and that some wise record label swoops them up and gives them a boat load of cash to support their Rock N Roll dreams and wishes. <3 Everybody said that we, Aluminum Falcon, were good, but I don't know what set they were listening to! LOL I never hear anyone else, but I know I kept losing sticks and sucking wind behind the kit, and somebody introducing one of our songs as being about a girl and having her leave you in San Francisco for a dirty squatter punk was not funny, assholes! ha ha ha Everybody had something to say about her, and I heard each and every one of you. Seriously. I wish I could comment on how Surrounded By Thieves sounded, but I was too busy socializing outside with everyone which, according to the band, is where I always end up watching them from. Who knew? LOLThe gig ended early, so we jumped into the Tour Van of Death and headed off to Favorite's, hoping to catch us some Deadhand, Tinglerz or the Black Jetts. We got there long after the bands had finished playing, unfortunately. The Tinglerz were already gone and Deadhand and Roy and Gabe from The Black Jetts were just hanging out in the parking lot. Deadhand had an extremely large butt plug device, pink in color, heavy in weight, among their gear that was sitting on the sidewalk. I wanted badly to ask them why, but I was too scared too... heh heh The Black Jetts didn't even play, because they just lost their bass player Roy, so if any of you bass players out there are looking to join a kick ass Punk Rock And Soul band, please contact the band here or here and be prepared to sell your soul... heh heh We all hung around a bit before calling it a night. Hanging out with your Friends is always fun. It's always a good thing. :-) Yeah, everything is going awesome right now. Minor speed bumps aside, the ride is smooth, the view - beautiful. Everything's updated. Check out the Pictures I took of the Sharp Objects @ Thee Parkside in San Francisco. This is the band I was watching while the ass clown I was with was getting mad at people bumping into her, and then confronting them by saying 'Do you know who I am? Do you know where I come from?' LOL What the Hell was I thinking?? ;-)
Big hugs and kisses to everyone who came out to Amber Watson's memorial get together @ the Bunkhouse last night. More than enough money was raised to cover all the expenses, which just goes to show you how beloved that girl was to people here in town. The place was packed, the mood a bit somber. The band Stereo High did an excellent job playing for everyone, and they sounded pretty good while doing it. I'd check them out again if the circumstances were different. It was good seeing sooooo many people I haven't seen in ages there, but it sucked that we were gathered together for all the wrong reasons. It was what it was, and I was there, and that's pretty much it. It was a great show of Love for someone who was taken away from us at a much, much too early age, and I can only hope that the rumors aren't true. Death. Phooey. The night ended up with a group of us heading off to the Artifice, and since we were in the neighborhood, a private after-hours tour of Cowtown Guitars... LOL Jesse & Roxie's new place is fucking magnificent, and conveniently located next to a gay porno shop full of glory holes and desperate men. I mean, that's what I heard anyways. I would never frequent such an establishment. ;-) ha ha ha Congrats to Cowtown Guitars for their new posh digs. The new place is incredible. I can't see anything but a bright and rosy future ahead of them. <3 And I was pretty drunk last night, but I think I joined Pigasus... LOL Anyways, everything's updated. Aluminum Falcon is playing a gig @ the Motor City Cafe tonight with our good friends Surrounded By Thieves and my 2nd favorite Local band The People's Whiskey, so if you're not going to see The Black Jetts / Deadhand / Tinglerz gig @ Favorites, stop on by and hang out and have a few drinks and socialize. We're going on 2nd, so get there appropriately. It should be a fun time. It usually always is. ;-) See ya there.
Shit! I almost forgot to tell you about the February Music Reviews that were posted recently, so that's what I'm doing now! LOL I talk shit about the latest releases from Moon Women, Cerebral Ballzy, Metallica, Famous Last Words, G.P.B., the Nirvana tribute CD Newermind from Spin Magazine, Van Halen and Corrosion Of Conformity. Click here to read them. Also, I forgot to mention that The People's Whiskey @ the Bikini Bar photos were just added as well, so go to the right of these words and click on the photo of their guitar player who's name I don't know or you can just click here to check them out as well. Nothing much more to say really. Band practice has been killing me as of late, getting hyped up on recording this weekend @ Camel Hump Studios. It's gonna be fantastic! If you're in a band, click here to check out all the things they have to offer you. It's a pretty sick set up they got going there, so take advantage. Oh, and I don't think Aluminum Falcon is gonna be playing that gig @ the Cheyenne Saloon on Friday. We still haven't gotten a flyer from the Promoter and it just doesn't seem like it's worth it to play a gig that nobody knows anything about. We got better things to do with our time, like record a masterpiece! ;-)
I am gonna try to recount the past week's nocturnal activities, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to fail miserably. I really can't do any of it justice. It was soooooo much fun! :-) Let me just Thank everyone for participating, and making my 38th Birthday one of the best ever! LOL
Hmmmmm, so let's see. My Birthday celebrating started on Weds. playing a gig where I broke my kick drum skin from kicking it so hard. It's been a while since I've done that... heh heh Anyways, If you missed out on seeing The Heroine tear shit up last Weds. @ the Bikini Bar then you're seriously retarded. Seriously. They were fantastic. Check out the video below for proof. The People's Whiskey played a phenomenal set, with everyone in the place (except for a drunken old skateboarding sound guy from the Double Clown) loving everything that they played. They blew the roof off of the joint and I was right there up front and center to watch them do it, loving every minute of it. The People's Whiskey. Check them out if you haven't already. Their Facebook page is right here. :-) The Quitters never cease to amaze me with their fantastic sounding songs of Punk praise, and they've added a second guitar player to the mix, although, to be fair, he was playing through some crappy equipment or something, because he could barely be heard, and when he was heard, he sounded like crap. Oh well. The Quitters still melted faces, but I could of done without the drum solo from Micah. Drum solo? Really? At a bar? LOL And I finally got to see the Reverend Lord's Unholy Saints, and could see what everyone was saying about them. Me personally, I couldn't tell if it was yodeling or Rockasilly, so I just called it Yodelbilly and left it at that. Yeah, it was a fun night @ the Bikini Bar. Thanks again to everyone for coming out - and just who was that crazy girl who kept rrrrrrolling herrrrrr prrrrrrronunciation of the letterrrrrrrrr 'R'rrrrrrrrrr? ha ha ha ha Thursday was all about Recovery. Friday night I got arrested for Felony Concealed Weapons charges right in front of Sin's condo complex. Yeah, apparently a Leatherman in the glove compartment and a pair of old rusty scissors behind your passengers seat constitute Concealed Weapons Felonies, so yeah, that was funny. Don't drive suspiciously in the rich part of town is all I gotta say. LOL I got bailed out in a few hours and was back on the streets by 3 am. My Lawyer laughed about it and said not to worry. I told him I wasn't, and that's why I pay him the big, big bucks for. I was telling people @ the Bikini Bar on Weds. that I was going to get arrested on my Birthday. I just didn't know what for. I just had a feeling. It was waaaaayyy over-due. ;-) I woke up Sat. with a bad case of the CCDC flu, and after scrubbing it off of me I picked up Sin from just outside the scene of my arrest and headed down to the Motor City Cafe to catch Pigasus and The Swamp Gospel and Sweet Justice, who cancelled for some reason or another. Boooooooooo. Oh well. The 2 Local bands used the extra time allotted to play some cool ass music, with the Swamp Gospel playing some Cramps derived Rock And Roll, and with Pigasus playing a set that would of had the approval of Iggy And The Stooges. Fun night, which ended waaaaayyy too early in the morning, and led to a steady stream of vomit all the way down Flamingo Blvd. ;-) Sunday, SOMEBODY had stuff to do at 10:30 in the morning, which led me to spending the day avoiding the urge to bite people's faces off, and crashing out early that evening. So yeah, that's my Birthday Binge in a nutshell. I'm leaving out the fine details like the Sex, Drugs, and late night Fellipilito's runs, but you get the gist of what I'm saying, right? Anyways, Thanx to everyone for the Gifts, and let's do it again next year, OK? Everything is updated. Pictures of The Heroine are up and available here for your perusal, and in case you didn't see the flyer on your way in here, The Bronx are playing at the Double Down for Valentine's Day, and it's an Invite-Only event, but that doesn't mean you can't go. Use your brain, be creative, and I'm sure you'll be able to get in. Maybe... heh heh heh
