I live for gigs like that one last night. I really do. Small, intimate things with a handful of Friends in attendance, glorified practices really,
and the vibe is just so relaxed, stress free, I dunno, something. The Bands are basically playing for each other and the 2 or 3 other idiots in attendance who have nothing better to do than to come out and check out some bands they've never heard of, on the slim chance that one of them might be worth remembering and maybe worth scrounging some change together to buy some merch off of the band to help their gas funds to get them to the next gig. Yeah, that's what last nights gig @ Yayo Taco was all about, and I loved every minute of it. I only made the effort to see Deadhand
, who I am currently obsessed with, but seeing a band like Razorhoof
just throw down the sickness with their Neurosis
Noise not Music was worth the $5 admission donation price alone. Click here
to check out the bands Facebook page. And what's up with the new changes to the layout of Facebook? Can you say, LAME!! hahahaha Smooth Sailing
were pretty good too, in a Refused
/ At The Drive In
kind of way, shaking the walls of Yayo Taco loose with their double bass playing musical onslaught. Click here
to check their Facebook page out and become their Friend. And I finally got to see G.P.B.
, who are just the cutest bunch of Punk kids ever! They're like a cross between Rancid
and the Pedophilties
, and every one of their songs is, uhhhmmm, how should I put this, "inspired", by bands like the Dead Boys
, Sham 69
and the 4-Skins
. They played a NOFX
cover that never changed tempo once, even though it was supposed to... heh heh heh. Deadhand
played a NOFX
cover too, Linoleum
, and had some random Punk kid sing it and lose his shit while doing so. His buddy helped out on backup vocals too... rad. It was cute and awesome at the same time. Totally laid back night @ Yayo Taco. You should of been there. You missed out. :-)Tomorrow night Pigasus
is playing at the Beauty Bar for some reason, but I couldn't find shit on Facebook about it. I thought it was for something about tattoos or some shit, but who knows. Friday night Danny, The Prince of Drummers, is putting on a show at the place he works at, the Bikini Bar
, that he's calling The Clash Of The Scenes
, and it's featuring the Tinglerz
, Six Shooters To The Sky
, and you can click here
to check out all the info about it on the Facebook event page for it. Isn't Facebook wonderful? Takes all the effort out of promoting a gig! LOL And everybody is complaining about the new Facebook layout but I dunno, I like it. It works for me and simplifies everything. Whatever. And don't forget about this gig happening @ the Hypnotic Lounge this Saturday. It should be a night of Local Music Sexiness!!!! Deadhand
, Aluminum Falcon
and Holding Onto Sound
. I was told that Dead Neon
dropped off... Booooooooooooo. See ya there! XOXOXOXOXO
Robots are SEXXXY!! <3
I had a pretty good weekend planned out. I really did. I was gonna start Friday night out by heading down to the Cheyenne Saloon to catch my Nephew DJ Chis
opening up for Sen Dogg from Cypress Hill
there, and then after that was finished I was gonna head to Vamp'd to catch Green Jelly
and the Vermin
, which I had been hyping my friends about all week. Problem was, a certain band I wanted nothing to do with was opening the gig, a fact that I only found out about when the flyer was finally made available to the public 2 days before the gig. Yeah, I know. Don't get me started. So I told my friends I wouldn't be at the gig, and they tried to talk me into going anyways, but I stood my ground and stayed away. After over sleeping and missing out on my Nephews set, I decided to pursue other non-musical endeavors that evening. Totally worth it too. :-)
Saturday was my plan was all about Football and seeing Nick Razor and G.F.I.
@ the Cheyenne Saloon that night, who were playing with Guilty By Association
and Rule Of Thumb
, I think. Anyways, just like before, a few days before the gig I find out that another band I want nothing to do with are playing the gig that night, and even though they are notorious for booking gigs and not showing up to them, I again decided to stay away and avoid the possibility of any Drama. Again, I got better things to do. Like eat, drink and be merry! :-) So I started the day out with Jeremy testing out some bass pedals he picked up from Cowtown Guitars
, and then it was off to Jesse & Roxie's to watch the game. After watching the Raiders lose to the 40-Whiners I went home with a belly full of enchiladas and a better disposition to deal with the Drama I had waiting for me there. And to do laundry. Yup. Fun stuff.
Speaking of fun stuff, think this pretty much says it all. I love the title of the email - reads like a newspaper headline! hee hee hee This Gilbert Astrada dude is in serious trouble! ;-) And please note that he sent a copy of the email to "702cop112", but yet tells me if I don't comply with his wishes he will turn the matter over to Metro when, apparently, he already has. Cute.GILBERT ASTRADA CAUGHT VANDALIZING LOCAL BUSINESSMark Hornsby email@example.com to ge138, 702cop112 show details Sunday August 21 11:31 PM (15 minutes ago) Hi Gilbert Astrada~My name is Mark and I have you on video surveillance tagging my club up with your stickers. In the real world that's called VANDALISM and it's against the law. You obviously didn't look up at any of the 15 cameras I have in my bar. The date was on Sunday, August 14 2011. I suggest you come in and explain why this happened to me or this will be turned over to metro and you can explain to them. You have 48 hours to get this handled or it will be dealt with legally. Truly.*M Mark HornsbyMHC (LLC)Yeah, I don't think I'll be supporting the Cheyenne Saloon anytime in the future, to say the least, which is just fine. I got better things to do and if he's serious about pursuing this legally, then I guess we'll go that route. He told his Cop friend. I told my Lawyer. We'll see how this plays out.
I Heart Nirvana, which is the only reason why this picture is here. :-)
Ahhhhhhh, such a beautiful Monday morning. I think I'll go out and enjoy it and see what kind of mischief I can get into. Pretty quiet week musically, with the weekend having only one must see gig, that being the Mapes
gig @ the Motor City Cafe. If you're feeling brave you can venture out to Hendertucky to see the Tinglerz
, but I wouldn't advise it, and neither does my Lawyer. :-) There's some Thrash shows @ the Sanctuary, Yayo, the Bunkhouse, whatever, happening this weekend, and you can check out the Gig Calendar
page for all the info, and then there's that Butthole Surfers
gig happening @ the Palms on Sunday, which, I dunno, just bums me out to no end. The last time I saw the Butthole Surfers
, they were playing a big stage, during their MTV Alternative Nation moment in the sun, and they seemed kind of lost up there, and it definitely didn't feel like a Butthole Surfers
gig from where I was standing. Good but not Essential like it used to be. I can't imagine it will be any different at the Palms. Oh well. Could just be the 'Old Guy' in me, but I'd rather not see it. Have fun if you're going though. :-) Everything's updated, all the Pictures from the Pentagram
/ Dead Neon
/ Demon Lung
/ 21 Strong
gig @ the Cheyenne are up, and hopefully they won't be the last pictures I take there but if they are, oh well. :-) I got some video from that night too, and I'll upload that later.
The Maxies are from Greenland people - GREENLAND!! :-)
I am sooooooooo in Love with Deadhand right now that it's not even funny! <3 I finally saw them play last night @ Hypnotic Billiards (in the same shopping center as Tony's, which makes some of the bombest Mexican food in the City!) and it's almost 24 hours later and I can't stop thinking about what a great performance they put on! Hypnotic Billiards sucks as a venue, because the stage is almost dead set against the front of the circular bar, leaving pretty much the entire prime viewing area directly in front of the stage non useable, forcing everyone to watch from either the left or the right of the stage, and the room's a bit bright as well, sucking up all the bottom end and making everything sound a wee bit trebley, but as far as a viable option for bands to play in a City that sorely needs one, Hypnotic Billiards will work! LOL Plus it's All Ages as well, which is always a plus here in town. I got there just as Ministry Of Love started to play, because the gig MOL was playing before the Signals Midwest gig was running late, and they were sounding really good for the first half of their set, but then I think technical difficulties killed the momentum midway through. It was either that or it was the slower, mid paced songs that they played towards the end of their set. Either or, but Hey! What do I know, right. The kids dug them. That's all that matters. :-)
Signals Midwest were pretty good, with a drummer that was absolutely KILLING IT while the band played their energetic punky pop music!! I love watching good drummers and this guy was really, really good. The rest of the band were no slouches either, but the drummer was the Star. Seriously. I wish Signals Midwest would make Las Vegas a regular stop, because I'd definitely go check those guys out again. Good stuff. I've forgotten how great TheCore are, what with Sal and his whole 'Beardcore' thing keeping the band from playing as often as they should, but man, those guys haven't lost a thing since the last time I saw them play. Just fucking fantastic, although I think they played pretty much the same set as the last time I saw them. Not that I'm complaining, mind you, just saying. :-) They're one of my favorite Local bands and one of the bands I point out to others as a perfect example of what a good band is supposed to be like. I tried to take pictures but there were a couple of dooshy "professional photographer" types (1 of whom was Steve from punksinvegas.com... LOL) running around and getting in the way of my shots, so I just gave up and enjoyed the rest of their set from a distance. Soooooooo good TheCore are. :-) Oh, and did I mention that Deadhand were fucking AMAZING! hahaha Playing a great selection from their debut CD and a bunch of stuff they haven't even released yet, they were just fucking stellar and I seriously couldn't be prouder of Brendan. I've been with that kid through thick and thin, and with this latest release he's just beginning to hit his stride with his songwriting. Just fantastic stuff and they sounded sooooo good last night. Deadhand. Fuck yeah. Buy their new CD immediately and become a fan on their Facebook page by clicking here.
I was gonna go to Saturday's Krum Bums / Dead Neon / Blatant / Toxic Holocaust gig, but I didn't have the $$$ to get in, and by the time Pulsar got back to me and said I would be on the Guest List, I had already made other plans. Sorry. I heard nothing about the gig though, if it was good or not. I'm sure it was though. I heard good things about that Hemlock / Klunk gig that happened @ the Cheyenne Saloon, which is cool. Hemlock has been around forever. Everyone in town has a Hemlock story, either good or bad, and who can forget those classic freeway off ramp wooden board gig announcements, huh? LOL Friday's birthday party for the Prince of Pinche Drummers was splendid. We didn't kill the keg because we were all concentrating on smoking ourselves retarded and shooting whiskey and chugging tequila! LOL There's Pictures of the night in the usual place, but the funny thing is, I don't remember taking or being in any of them! hahahaha Oh Tequila, how I Love thee!! <3Everything is updated. I don't know if I ever said anything about it on the website, but I'm back to playing drums in Youth Gone Mad, and we have a great gig block party thing going on this Sat. in Torrance, CA. with the Yeastie Boys, Million Kids, the Von Steins and a bunch of other cool bands. Yeah, not only am I a Drum Whore, but now I'm doing it in different states! LOL It's an All Day, All Ages extravaganza that is not to be missed! I'll be taking lots of photos, that's for sure! LOL And speaking of photos, the Hell Ride Music Festival posted a bunch of Pictures of the Vegascendents in action when we played there in Fullerton a while back, and you can go here to check them out on their Facebook page. They're pretty good and Thankfully, not centered on me! LOL The guy in the Double Down tee shirt dancing around and singing along was just some random drunken dude having fun. I thought the shirt was ironic, to say the least... heh heh. I'm not gonna make it to tonight's Black Jetts / Tinglerz / Unko Atama gig @ the Bunkhouse because I gotta go help a friend set up their Etsy.com web account, but if you got nothing better to do than please go support a couple of great Local bands and some band who's name translates to 'Shit Head'... heh heh heh It's gonna be a great week! Can't wait to see all my Friends and Family in CA. again!! Woo Hoo!!
A pretty P.F.R. flyer, right?
Hey! I have a working website again! LOL
RollerCon is in town, and there's shit jumping off all over the place this weekend! Tomorrow night there are some great gigs happening around town, like Sloka @ the Double Down, Deadhand @ the Beauty Bar, and the Departures (straight outta Jersey!), Holding Onto Sound, the Quitters and Battle Born @ Yayo Taco, but the best place to be is Casa de Amoroso for Danny, the Prince of Pinche Drummers B-Day extravaganza! Bring your swimming outfits and some CAKE or something else to eat because this one may be going all night long! hahaha Happy Birthday Sir! keg Stands will be mandatory this evening! :-)
If you're still alive on Sat. and not in jail, the place to be that night is the Toxic Holocaust, Blatant, F.S.U., Krum Bums and Dead Neon gig @ the Bunkhouse. It should be an interesting gig to say the least. The Tinglerz are also playing that night @ the Motor City Cafe, so if you're not @ the Double Down trying to pick up on chubby drunk roller girls then you should be at 1 of those 2 gigs. Remember, going to see a band won't give you a disease. Maybe... heh heh
Sunday it's all about Deadhand, Signals Midwest and TheCore at Hypnotics, and if you're up early enough you can stop by there and catch Ministry Of Love with Broken End Stereo and a few other bands playing an All Ages gig for the kids. Oh, and Monday, the Black Jetts and the Tinglerz are playing @ the Bunkhouse with Unko Atama from S.F., so yeah, like I said, it's gonna be a busy weekend - hope to see you all somewhere!
Best. Flyer. EVER!!! :-)
Well, I'm back on top of that list. You now, the list that some people have that says 'Jump this person as soon as you see him'... LOL All for talking shit about the Divebar which, by the way, is still open. What is this, the Kiss "Final Tour Ever" bullshit? hahaha Tero from the Divebar said somewhere that they're closing because of financial reasons and for personal circumstances that got out of control. I'll leave it to you to guess as to what those personal circumstances are... heh hehThe sun is coming up on a brand new day, a day in which I went public with a new relationship on Facebook, which, apparently, is how things are done nowadays. LOL She's the best girl ever. You're all invited to the wedding. <3 It was also a day that I got to see Unfair Fight win some Battle of the Bands thing at Diablo's, and, a day in which Area 702's fight to stay alive as an All Ages venue for bands to play at came to an end. Yeah, apparently the City Council or some shit 86'd Area 702's bid to stay open, and I'm kind of mixed about it. I mean, on one hand, it sucks that Vegas loses this venue, but just like the Sanctuary, or the Farm before them, I really don't give a shit because the bands that played at all those venues were a bunch of pitiful poseur scenester bands who didn't deserve a place to play! LOL The few times I ventured into those places and observed that absolute dooshbaggery Rockstar bullshit these bands perpetrated just made me El Oh El! You would of thought these Local bands were already signed to Atlantic Records and had toured the world 3 times over with the way they were acting and carrying on. And I'm not even gonna get started on how shitty most of the bands who played there are, because that just makes me sound like 'that old guy' which I guess I am, but coming from my D.I.Y. background like I do, I just get upset that kids today just expect everything to be handed to them or done for them, while none of them take the initiative to do something themselves. Like Sal did. Sal from TheCore was telling me about this thing he started called Revive Vegas, which is basically a vehicle to set up charity shows and auctions and to help out of state bands book Local shows here, which sounds like a great thing to me. Anything anybody wants to try and do to keep Las Vegas as a viable option for touring bands to consider playing at is cool in my book, and him doing charity shows with Local bands helping those less fortunate than us just makes me wanna give Sal a big ol' sloppy hug and kiss -- with tongue! ;-) But seriously, support Sal in this endeavor. It's pretty fucking epic. If you can volunteer your time, or help out by playing the gigs, or if you have some stuff you can put up for auction, contact Sal at Revive Vegas on their Facebook page right here and let him know what you can do. Kudos to you Sal, Kudos! <3
OK, to get back to the Unfair Fight @ Diablo's story; I had no idea it was a Battle of the Bands thing until I got there. I probably wouldn't of gone if I knew it was. Thank Allah they were selling $1 Heinekens - I was double fisting all night! LOL I got there just as the first band finished, watched Unfair Fight rip through a set of new songs that I didn't recognize or never heard before (Dan later told me that they played a bunch of new stuff, which sounded amazing, BTW), and then afterwords watched this group called Clonk (or maybe Clunk?) that was made up of a bunch of angry Metal dudes (and 1 chick) playing this choppy, headbanging melodic noise while fully decked out as evil clowns, ala Slipknot or I.C.P. or some shit like that. It was interesting, to say the least... heh heh. The way they were judging who won this Battle of the Bands shit was by some sort of decibel reading machine which measured the noise of the crowd, and Unfair Fight won by, and I quote Local Show Joe here, "a nut hair" - they won by only a 1 point higher decibel point reading! Woo hoo! hahahahaha It was pretty sweet that they won, and, I think, a little bit of a shock to the guys in the band. The looks on their face were priceless! Oh well, they won $500 for their trouble and now move on to the 2nd round, and I was happy to be there to see them win it. Congratulations guys, and Good Luck in the next round! :-)
Some interesting gigs happening this weekend. The Double Down will be jumping tonight with the Tinglerz and Dead Birds And Blind Kids, same with the Hard Rock Cafe where Unearth and In Shadows Embrace will be shaking the structure right down to it's shoddy workmanship foundation. If you're in the downtown area tonight, Penn Jillette And The No God Band will be playing @ the Bunkhouse for some UNLV benefit, so check that out if you're interested. I hear they play Punk covers. ;-) Also @ Artifice, Andrew Kiraly, ex singer of old school Vegas punk band Boba Fett Youth, wrote a book about those good ol' days of being a Punk and is having his book release party on Friday. Should be interesting, to say the least.
He acts like he's the only one to get punched in the face for having an opinion... heh heh
Saturday Surrounded By Thieves is playing with the Bogarts @ Yayo Taco, the Seriouslys are playing at the Double Down, and if you're in the mood to dance early in the afternoon, then head over to the Sanctuary to see the Remedies and Tuesday After School play some All Ages dance party. Come on, it's OK if you're the oldest guy there. Trust me, it gets easier to deal with the older you get! heh heh heh Everything is updated. Have a great weekend. I'll be at the Artifice all weekend with my new girlfriend if anyone needs me. :-) Emole, aka Bryan, one of the many ex Loud Pipes singers, is in town from San Fran - Let's party! He and I will be at Artifice on Saturday for the Bike Prom which is going on that night. Click here for more info on the event.
Bicycle Prom... good grief!! What's next? Toaster Sadie Hawkins dance?
Melo - good seeing and drinking and bullshitting with ya Brother! XOXOXO Good meeting your Wife as well! Keep up on that Indian stuff - it pays off I tells ya! hahaah And Hey!!! Where's that Cyanide Blues live stuff at, ya bastard? hahaha Gotta go. It's gonna be a great weekend. :-)
Cows on drugs... you gotta love that!
It's 3 am on a beautiful Tuesday morning. Howard Stern is bitching about something and I could give a shit less. I've had the most interesting past few days ever, and I'm currently in the middle of major rehearsals with 3 different bands that have me not knowing which way is up. The Loud Pipes have a gig coming up soon, same with the Vegascendents, and I got a new band that I'm pretty hyped about. Aluminum Falcon has been 'shelved', for lack of a better term, and this new band helps ease the pain of the frustration of not being able to take Aluminum Falcon to greater heights than we did. Oh well. It wasn't from lack of trying, I can assure you of that. Starting a new band is like getting a new girlfriend. It's always fun in the beginning. ;-)
I heard nothing but great things about the Zombie Prom @ the Bunkhouse on Fri. I don't know if I believe the story Turbo told me, but it still sounded fun! hahaha I love the Tinglerz and I dig the Seriouslys. I was at the sidewalk sale for Cowtown Guitars Sat. afternoon, chatting away and eating hot dogs with the 2 new owners, Jesse & Roxie, and their offspring, Gadzuki, who kept everyone on their toes by throwing around a super rubber bounce ball that everybody took turns chasing after, and by riding a scooter around for hours until he was red in the face. Gawd I love that kid. Great turnout too. Talked to a bunch of people who I haven't seen in a while, and even a few who only talk to me on Facebook - what a shock! hahahaha And it's always awkward when you see someone in person who just added you as a Friend, and they don't say a word to you -- how quickly can you say 'Delete'? ;-)
T.S.O.L. on Sat. - were you there? I wasn't, but everybody I talked to that was there said it was a great gig. I heard that Paolo and S.F.T. just killed it. I didn't go, of course, and not because it was at the Bunkhouse; I got no problem with the place, and it wasn't because of Civet, because those cunts just aren't worth the trouble of even making an effort to avoid, but I didn't go because of the Pulsar thing. Since I love the kid I'll spare him the indignity of airing our dirty laundry in public, but I will say this - I'm not the only one who thinks like this. Others are noticing, and they don't like it but Hey! What do I know, right? LOL
Yeah, nothing but shit talking going on here. I'm gonna go back to burning CD's into my music collection. People who come over to my house and see it or go through it are kind of impressed and shocked, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. :-) Support Local Music. Be More Than A Witness. Fuck Pay To Play Bullshit, and Plan on being at this gig on Saturday!
It's a Wedding Party!!!
I know I've been slacking as of late, but it's such a beautiful day today that I'm gonna be running around everywhere, but there's some cool stuff going on tonight, like this:
Chicks on wheels!! What a deal!!
Plus this little bit of Crusty Punx goodness, featuring the Naturals / N.F.F.U. / Paranoid Freakout:
Smells like Dirty!
And the aforementioned Tinglerz / Naked City Romeos / Agent 86 gig happening @ the Double Down tonight:
So long Eddie & Kyla!
I even toyed with the idea of going to Extreme Thing, but then I remembered that there is hair on my balls, and so I would have no interest in any of the bands playing, whoever they are... LOL Everything's updated - check out The Waking Light / Aluminum Falcon / Battle Born pictures from the Cheyenne Saloon from a while back - the Knock Out photos are coming real soon. I gotta do those Barrington Levy pictures first though. :-)
OK, so I've just crashed the Ghost Train into Mexico, using the stolen Spanish Soldiers uniform that I got after I killed those wetters for talking shit to me up North. I can't decode the 4th Treasure Map for the life of me, and running into old friends like Seth, Nigel Dickens, Bonnie McFarlane (even though I blew her Dad's brains out in the barn) and Sheriff Marshall is just like the icing on the cake I can't stop eating. I love killing Chupacabras and I've vowed to never kill another Sasquatch as long as I live. I found the Brokeback Mountain guys, and I loved killing that Nazi store keep for shits and giggles. You probably don't have any idea of what I'm talking about, and if you do, isn't it great? LOL Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare has been consuming my Life as of late, and I'm not minding that fact one bit. I don't go to Gigs, work on the Website, or even venture out of the house for replenishment anymore - everybody delivers nowadays, including Albertsons! ;-) Ahhhhhhhh... this is why I don't play video games more than I do. They take over my Life and make everything else seem inconsequential. Fun as Hell though.I do get out on Sundays to watch the Raiders at Casa de Amoroso though, and with our new Good Luck charm Tony, things have been most festive as of late. Roxie is the best host a group of Neanderthal football fans could ever hope to have, and with our 3 game winning streak going into the bye week, I'm feeling most optimistic that we'll give Pittsburgh a good run for their money next game. And what about what happened to Wade Phillips? hahahahaahahahaha Jerry Jones is a douchebag! The only way the Cowboys are going to the Super Bowl this year is if they buy a ticket! LOL And the Sharks are pissing me off. We do great against the good teams, and we suck ass when we play the not-so-good teams. Niemi Sucks, the Joe Thornton suspension was total bullshit, but you know what - at least we're not the Ducks, the Kingss, or the Sabres!! hahaha Oh SNAPS!
California, we're coming for you... Hide your sheep!!
The clowns are John Wayne Gacy originals!
It made me both Angry and Amused that the Misfits show had such a great turnout. Angry that there are that many stupid people who went to that bullshit, and Amused that there are that many stupid people who went to that bullshit. All of you who have told me about the gig, either positive or negative, I secretly smirk at you for being a sucker and going to that shit - "You ever get the feeling you've been cheated?" heh heh heh I'm not gonna pontificate upon which line up is more of a real Misfits reunion - Doyle and Danzig and some Sunset Strip doods, or Jerry Only and some Black Flag alumni, because, as Jess Stewart said, "It's not 1995 anymore - don't we have better things to complain about?" LOLTime for the Sharks / Ducks game. After that, more zombie killing. Outbreak and everyone's favorite band Murder Majesty is playing @ the Box Office on Thurs., and the Bronx is playing @ the Beauty Bar that night as well. Friday has Bad Taste (new band in town - check out their Myspace page by clicking here) playing @ the Sanctuary, and Dead Neon is playing @ LVCS that night as well. Saturday it's all about Turbonegra, Pigasus (who are actually rehearsing now!!) and the Tinglerz @ the LVCS, but Die Laughing is playing their "last" gig at some place called Hillary downtown that afternoon, and the 7 Outs are at the Double Down that night too! Busy ass weekend of stuff going on. Dress warmly and get your ass out to the gigs! Me, I'll be sitting at home killing zombies; content. ;-) Everything is updated - new stuff added to the Pictures page, as well as the Live Stuff page, including the 2 songs I got of Nails playing @ Yayo Taco, so browse around and waste some time and check shit out. What else are ya gonna do - play Farmville? hahahaha
