Well, I guess the question of the hour is if American Buckshot is going to play this gig on Friday. To be honest, your guess is as good as mine. I'm wracked with pain, but I'm able to walk around for short bursts of time, but it comes with a lot of effort and stress and I'm kind of hunched over when I do it. I feel like a worthless lump but I think I'm making progress. 2 other Local bands, N.E. Last Words and Roid Rage, have been added, so if we don't play it won't be THAT big of a deal. I'm taking it day by day, so we'll see. It should be a fun gig regardless. Come out and work off some of that post Thanksgiving day turkey flab by bouncing around while D.I. plays all the songs you all know and love. There are worse ways to spend a Black Friday night. My recent injury has me Thankful for a lot of things, especially my Friends who have been helping me out as of late, bringing me food and crutches and taking me to the Dr.'s and all that stuff you take for granted when you're no longer able to walk. I seriously love each and every one of you, and I couldn't do any of this without your help. Again, I'm seriously Thankful for everything you all do for me. I'm also Thankful that this Aluminum Falcon recording is officially being released! LOL It's been a long time coming, that's for sure. It's called Finally, and you can listen to it and purchase it on Google Play by clicking here, and on CD Baby by clicking here. The link for Soundcloud is right below here. Check it out and lemme know what you think about it. It was recorded here in town @ Camel Hump Studios by John "Plastic Bag" Brown and mixed by Paul Miner, who's worked with Death By Stereo and New Found Glory, among others. I'm really proud of how this came out. The actual, physical CD will be available for purchase real soon. The artwork that Andy from Surrounded By Thieves did for it is incredible. Some new stuff added to the website to bring to your attention, like the stuff Karl Bakla has been turning in, Music Reviews on the latest from the Post Teens (click here to read that) and the Dee Cracks (click here to read that), a Ramones type band from Austria. I finally straightened out my review of the Unfair Fight 7" (click here to read it), and the photos of The Vermin playing at the Double Clown were posted. Click here to check those out. Yeah, lots of stuff coming up on here. There's lots of catching up to do. :-) P.S. Happy Birthday Talitha - I love you! XOXOXOXO
What a perfect weekend! :-) Friday night @ the Sand Dollar Blues Lounge was great! I played both sets without any problems, and my band mates almost had me feeling accomplished! LOL I don't know why we practice as long as we do, just to get up on stage and forget the basic fundamentals that we worked so hard on perfecting, but such is Life in a band. Technical difficulties and booze were definitely factors in every bands performance that night. Opening band The Nasty were a train wreck! The band is comprised of Rich and Ryan from Six Shooters To The Sky and 2 other dudes and the technical difficulties and piss poor sound made watching their set MAJORLY awkward. The silence after each song was deafening. Their performance wasn't very good. I don't think anyone in the place liked their playing, and that's being polite about it. Then American Buckshot played. Mistakes were made is all I'm saying. Then these lame ass attention whores, who were dressed up like zombies and whatnot, got up on stage and acted like they knew how to work the cat walk. It was awkward watching them also. Then the Vegascendents played. Again, mistakes were made! LOL Then Horror Business played and I was stunned stupid and silent. They were horrible. The drummer was playing the songs all wrong, they were playing the songs all slow and lethargic, they were missing the changes from verse to chorus, and I think they even played a few songs in the wrong key! I'm a Misfits fan - I know! LOL But all of that didn't matter, because everybody in the place loved them, and I was ashamed to see a few of my band mates enjoying them as well. Booze makes everything better, right? ha ha ha Oh, it was a fun time despite it all, and I really, really had a splendid night. Thanx to Danielle @ Nevermore Productions for putting it all together, and Thanx to Hawaiian Hot Dog for the delicious grub afterwords. Then Saturday, it was all about the Voodoo Glow Skulls @ the Bunkhouse. Whodovoodoowedo? FUCK YOU!!! ha ha ha They were pretty good once they got warmed up and used to playing outside in the cold Las Vegas night air. They were playing everything a little bit slow, but maybe that's just me. Playing slow worked for some songs, like Left For Dead, but really didn't for songs like El Coo Coi and Insubordination. And oh my gawd - they played Closet Monster! I haven't heard them play that song in a long ass time. I was giddy! It reminded me of how far these guys have come from their salad days, and I've proudly been there with them every step of the way. The Voodoo Glow Skulls are always a good time. Always. :-) The opening bands were an ecclectic lot, that's for sure. You had us, Aluminum Falcon play, and even though our set's momentum was killed by technical difficulties, I think we did OK. Time Crashers were in interesting concept but really bad musically. Travelers through time like Nikolai Tesla and Leonardo DaVinci form a band. Whatever. Burning Agrestic were really good, in a Taking Back Sunday / No Use For A Name kind of way. Shotguns N Gasoline might of been good, but you couldn't tell because of the shitty sound the soundman gave them. Their canned stage banter between songs schtick should go though. You don't need to remind the crowd every chance you get as to who you are. Some other really pro sounding band played after Shotguns N Gasoline, but they were too mellow and laid back sounding for me to dig though. Didn't catch their name. And then the Voodoo Glow Skulls brought it all down to a close, playing a pretty sweet set dressed up as the Village People. They didn't do the Y.M.C.A. dance though... boooooooooo. Ha Ha Ha They played a great set and I was glad to see 'em. Thanx to all the new friends I made that night, and to the old friends I caught up with, and fuck off to the Haters who were just making me el oh el. :-) And then there was this. That's a picture of the Captain flogging some chick with a whip while the Vermin played. Don't ask. Since my band mates were in no mood to go home yet, after the Voodoo gig they dragged me to the Double Clown, where the Vermin were holding court and where Pussykat Tattoos were celebrating their 50th Anniversary by throwing a Halloween party. As I walked in the Vermin were using the old ploy of 'Show us your tits and we'll give you a tee shirt' on the drunken girls in the crowd, and the sad part is that it was working. No where was that old cliche about Halloween just being an excuse for stupid girls to dress up like sluts more evident than at this cesspool on a Sat. night. Gawd I fucking hate this place. If it wasn't for the awesomely cool people I know who were there like Sarah and Jen and Darran and Shawn and Jesse and Tess, I probably would of been miserable. The Vermin were drunk and messing up songs left and right, covers included, and if it wasn't for a pretty funny drunken girl fight, involving Marianne from the Luv Taps, if you can believe that, then I think the Double Clown experience would of been a total bust... LOL Life's Torment, who had played with Phobia earlier @ East Side Joe's, were setting up their gear to play another set for whomever was still standing, but the guys and I left to go grub at Felipito's before calling it a night. Thanx to all my Friends and the new faces I became acquainted with in the parking lot, and again, fuck off to the Haters who were in full effect at that dump of a place. I'm Teflon people. The fact that you think I give a fuck about you is the funniest thing ever. I wasn't gonna let any of you pathetic fucks ruin my excellent weekend - Nope! :-)
She's the only girl I want her to be...
And on the darkest nights She occupies my time I can't wait for the day to make her, make her mine
And I'll tell you that's it's OK So many things I wanna hear you say...
Lemme get back to that later. ;-) First off, let's talk some FOOTBALL!! hahaha YES!! How fucking SICK was that Raiders game yesterday??? Gawd damn do I love my team! To all of you who were talking shit to Jarrod and I @ Favorite's on Saturday - SUCK IT CHUMPS!! hahaha I told you guys... on any given Sunday, anything can happen. The Vikings can beat the 40-whiners, and the Raiders can beat the Steelers. Oh how sweet it is! I'd like to think it was my 2 Nephews who flew up there to see the game that brought us good luck, but it was probably more the fact that Duane The Main Brain McClain was wearing his Raiders jersey yesterday... heh heh
The Autumn wind is a Raider Pillaging just for fun He'll knock you 'round and upside down And laugh when he's conquered and won
Man, I'm just full of poetry today, aren't I? LOL OK, I'm sure this is all old news by now, but the Billie Joe from Green Day flip out is pretty funny. It's totally staged, but I think the point was made. It takes a while for Billie Joe to break his guitar at the neck, while Mike snaps his entire bass body in half. I think the best part is when Billie Joe just throws his microphone in the air, where after about a 5 second ascent/descent, it just thumps to the ground with a solid Ooompf! heh heh heh And he's not drunk or stoned or tweeking either. Believe me, I know. ;-)
Hey man! Did you hear about all the cool gigs this weekend? Neither did I! LOL But, Saturday's gig with Deadhand, Battle Born, Christian Martucii and East Of Sweden was pretty sweet. I'm listening back to the Deadhand set I recorded with my trusty Tascam DR-07, and the new stuff they played was incredible!! Please record and release that soon guys! And Battle Born played great as well, even though Chad was a bit under the weather from some bad Mexican food he ate earlier. They played a new song called The Killers, because the Killers released a new album called Battle Born. :-) You can hear the new song by clicking here, and please go to the band's website by clicking here. They talk some shit about the Killers on there, which is pretty funny. Apparently, all of their good press comes from me... heh heh heh That band Christian Martucci was OK, Psychobilly Rock N Roll stuff that got boring after a bit. Their drummer was sick though. And East Of Sweden were total shoegazer rock that would of went over big at the Beauty Bar. That's all I'm saying... And about what I was saying earlier, well, I think this chick is rad! She's fucking smart, beautiful, killer body, college graduate AND she has all her teeth! What a deal! hahaha I don't know where it's leading, but I'm definitely enjoying the view and the ride. ;-) Pictures of Jack Grisham's Lost Soul and The Vermin were just added to the website. You can click here to check out those J.G.L.S. photos, and you can click here to see those Vermin pix. And get fucking HYPED on this weekends Unfair Fight EP release party going down on Yayo Taco. You do NOT want to miss this. It's going to be Epic. Everything's updated. I'm gonna go call her now and let her make me Happy. :-)
Oh what a weekend! My liver hurts - literally! ha ha ha It was nice waking up and making coffee for someone in the morning again. Haven't done it in a long time. It felt good. :-) And oh, silly Facebook drama, you're not getting anywhere near me! I really don't care what you say or do, and you don't have to de-friend me before you talk shit about me. That's just chickenshit. If you say it, mean it, and have the balls to stand behind it. Losers. Ha ha ha ha I was having waaaayyyy too much fun this weekend to let anything bother me. Jane's Addiction on Fri., which was fucking HORRIBLE! Man that band just needs to give it up. That place sucks as a venue too. The sound was good, nice layout to see bands at, but it's sterile and promotes douchebaggery. At least it did on Fri. anyways. Phooey. And I didn't make it out to any of the PRIDE celebrations either, which sucked, because it sure did look like fun. Probably too much fun for a bitter, old homophobic poseur like myself though. ;-)
Sat. I played a gig @ the Bikini Bar that was pretty fucking fun. Every band that played was a wee bit drunk and definitely a little bit off their game, but sometimes that just makes things more interesting, like it did on Sat. The Dirty Panties probably played the best set of all the bands, which I guess is expected because they're a 'signed' band... LOL Plus I only say that because I can't say that our set kicked the most ass, even though it did. ;-) Yeah, The People's Whiskey played a pretty rollicking set, taking a while to get locked into their groove and flubbing up on of my favorite songs by them (Pills) but making up for it with the new songs they played, which sounded amazing-incredible. Lose that gawd awful La Bamba intro to that one new song though... heh heh And Surrounded By Thieves powered through their set without lead guitar slinger Andy because he was off becoming a first time Daddy to a beautiful baby boy! Awwwwwww!! Congratulations Sir! I hope that your first child, be a masculine child. ;-) hahaha Again, it was a great night that, for me, didn't end until the damn sun was up and irritating me from high in the sky. Nice. Last nights gig @ the Bunkhouse was interesting, to say the least. The Hard Pipe Hitters didn't play, which was a bit of a bummer because I was looking forward to seeing those dudes play, and the Quitters played without their bass player because apparently he's a sissy girly man who would rather do stuff with his girlfriend than play a gig with his friends. Da Gheyz. Phooey. It was cool that they played without him though. That band is so good it's nauseating, even without a bass player. The Vermin were spot on though, reaching a bit back into the vaults and playing some stuff that even they admitted they hadn't played in a while, like that song Pick A Sin. Good call on that one. I missed a lot of their set because I was out side partaking in illegal substances with a lot of my Friends who were in attendance. This Jack Grisham's Lost Soul thing brought out a lot of Local Scenesters, Hipsters and Weirdos, including some chick with a tattooed glow in the dark vagina that she took great pleasure in showing anyone and everyone that wanted to see it. At one point she was using her iPhone to videotape the band playing Code Blue and her vagina thrusting in time to the music. Weird. And yeah, Jack Grisham's Lost Soul played quite a few tasty T.S.O.L. tidbits, and even had Mike Roche come up and play World War III with them, which just made the crowd go nuts. The turnout wasn't great, which didn't make Pulsar happy unfortunately, but the intimate gathering was cool. Jack told lots of funny stories about stuff like jacking off into socks in the tour van and the Do's and Do Not's of Forced Analingus. Go Deep. Go Hard. Go Fast. His words not mine... LOL If it wasn't for the T.S.O.L. stuff they played, I would of been bored to tears. I would of rather of heard a bit more obscure stuff like Fuck You Tough Guy And Sodomy as opposed to Dance With Me or Code Blue, which Jack related to Sammy Davis Jr. singing Candyman. Yeah, Code Blue is Jack Grisham's Candyman. Yeah, again, just a fucking fun night out with a bunch of cool peeps, including April, who drove all the way in from AZ. just to see the gig! :-)
OK, it's Monday, and Grosse Pointe Blank is about to begin, followed by Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels. Sounds like a good day to just sit on the couch and relax before tonight's Raiders game. It's gonna be a slaughter. Party at Casa de Amoroso for those in the know. See ya there!
This is definitely going to be one of those, 'too much to say so I'm saying nothing' posts. My trip to California was extraordinary. The Pow Wow was even better than I could of imagined, and the Spiritual cleansing I was searching for was definitely found on top of the hill in a grove of tall oak trees. I went to the secret waterfall too, which was amazing. I haven't been there in years, and I was definitely having some major deja-vu moments there, I can tell ya! I also did some sightseeing, shopping, took care of some medical stuff, blah blah blah I got a bit of great news though, which was a long time coming, but that was counterbalanced by 3 chunks of bad news that I didn't see coming. I can't catch a break I swear. LOL Whatever. Just another obstacle to overcome in my quest for world domination. I need a Brain though. Being Pinky by yourself is no fun.
I just commented on this Facebook phenomenon where I logged on today after being away for a while and on Sept. 5th, 2012, 4 of my friends went from 'being in a relationship' to 'single', and one idiot went from being 'single' to 'being in a relationship'. What? Did you guys all get together and decide to do this all at once, or is it a weird coincidence? ha ha ha Relationship Status Day Holocaust!! OUCH!!
Yayo Taco, the Rattus gig, booooooooooooooo. Yeah, I heard all about it. So is this the end of that venerable All Ages joint? I hope not. I didn't support every gig that went on there, but I definitely support their right to throw them. And plus, if Yayo Taco stays closed, then where are the bands gonna play? Yeah exactly. I was gonna go by there this afternoon to see if it really was closed or not, but I blew it off, meaning I got too buzzed and forgot. I got too much stuff to do anyways. So yeah, I'm back, bigger and better than ever, and ready to get shit done. Starting with the gig going down this Sat. @ the Bikini Bar. A shitload (meaning 4) Local bands all playing in the same place on a Saturday night - Dirty Panties, Surrounded By Thieves, The People's Whiskey and me and the boys in Aluminum Falcon. That's a pretty good representation of what the Local scene has to offer. You just know that shenanigans will ensue. You know that some shit is going to be talked, and you know that some asses will be rocked, so stop on by, if you're not too broke from the Jane's Addiction gig @ the Cosmo the night before that is. The gig at the Bikini Bar should be a very interesting time, that's for sure.
Oh shit - I forgot about that Jack Grisham's Lost Soul thing going on Sunday @ the Bunkhouse. Palo from S.F.T., 1/2 Ast and a bunch more Local bands was just asking me what was going on Downtown this weekend and this gig popped into my head. I don't know what it's all about, and I don't know why it's on a Sunday but it should be interesting nevertheless, especially the turnout. Who comes out on a Sunday night to hear T.S.O.L. and Joykiller songs? LOL Me and hopefully a few others! Will we hear some Cathedral Of Tears or Tender Fury songs as well? hahaha Not bloody likely, but still, it should be fun. What else are ya gonna do on a Sunday? Stay home and watch Simpsons and Family Guy? Fuck that. That's what DVR was invented for, although, that Robot Chicken DC Comics Special airing Sunday looks funny as fuck, but I digress. The Vermin, Quitters and Hard Pipe Hitters are opening and again, this is a pretty good representation of some great Local bands. It's gonna be fun - hopefully no Drama, OK? ;-) I'm gonna be there, and you should be there too. Even you. Yeah you, the one with no school the next day and the 18 year old boyfriend... ha ha ha If it's not on Facebook then it's not True Yaaaahhh... ha ha ha
My Disease has been getting the best of me these past few days, and I'm kind of worried. It's not stopping me from getting things done and manning up to my responsibilities, but still, I'm starting to worry about the cost of what it's doing to me physically. Very strange indeed.
Hey - there is a good gig happening tonight @ the Royal Resort, featuring Local misanthropes Deadhand, playing with Punk Rock's musical version of Don Rickles The Vermin, and also on the bill are the noisy sludge masters Dead Neon. There's another band playing the gig that I'm not mentioning because they have a member of their band who's a little weasel faced liar that I want nothing to do with. God forgives, I don't. I would post the flyer for the gig on here, but I didn't wanna go through the effort to edit that bands name off of the flyer like I usually do, but seriously, it's gonna be a cool gig tonight @ the Royal Resort. If that band wasn't playing I'd be there front and center.
A gig I can post a flyer about is this one tonight @ Boomer's. Guttural Secrete is playing, along with The Genocide Architect (back from the dead and leaving Las Vegas apparently), God's America AKA Seeds Of Rape, and that's about all I can read off of that flyer! LOL Whatever happened to the concept of WANTING people to be able to read who's playing on a flyer? I guess that's as antiquated a notion as bands actually getting off their asses and promoting their gigs... heh heh That flyer might as well be in Klingon for as elitist as it is. ;-) And BTW, that God's America AKA Seeds Of Rape has got to be one of the stupidest band names I have ever heard of. I think someone from Jesus Fuck The Sun has something to do with that band, which would explain a lot. Anyone remember that band? Good. Believe me - you didn't miss out on a thing.
Hopefully I'm feeling good enough to make the trek out to Silverton to see Don Carlos play at the Sway Pool on Saturday. The Man is a Reggae Legend! Don't believe me? Watch this video I took at Reggae In The Desert 2011 directly below all this BS. Him opening up was a bit of a travesty, but whatever. I loved it and I'm hoping he's just as good when he plays on Sat. I also hope I'm not surrounded by drunk Indian girls hooting and hollering like I was last time too... heh heh
Well, I gotta go to band practice - of course. Then bowling. Then maybe a social life if I'm lucky. ;-) I added the Pictures I took of The Fact Remains and Surrounded By Thieves up to the website, and you can click here and here to check those out if you haven't already. It's gonna be a cool weekend - assuming I live through it of course. :-)
Guess who has their Internet back? Yeah, this guy right here! :-)
I was awoken up at like 4 in the afternoon yesterday by a phone call from Cox cable telling me that they could be by in an hour to establish my Internet service if I was available. And this was just after they had told me on Monday that it wasn't going to be until the 30th that they could fix my wiring or whatever the problem was. Fucking competence exemplified I tells ya! Anyways, the Internet is back on for me, and I got lots of catching up to do. I'm downloading porn at 15 Mbps now!! ha ha ha
Man, I wish this thing was on in time to tell you about that Vermin taping that went down at the Double Clown last night. It was for the pilot episode of Dirk Vermin's reality T.V. show, and I heard it was pretty fun. Can Vegas stand another reality based show? I hope so, because if anything, a T.V. show about Pussykat Tattoo and Dirk Vermin would be entertaining at the least. :-)
Hey - I can tell you about this though - one of the newest bands on the scene here in Vegas is playing their last show tonight @ the Arts Factory. Yeah, Vihan Rytmi has the strange honor of playing their first show and their last show all in the same month! LOL Yeah, another band being affected by the 'Larry B. is moving' thing here in Vegas, which is a shame, because this band is really, really good. Check out the video below to see what you're gonna miss out on if you don't make it down to the Arts Factory tonight.
Yeah, this whole thing with Larry moving out of town is a trip. He's moving to the Southern California area for some gawd forsaken reason... Ugh! He leaves behind quite a legacy, that's for sure. I think that all the bands he's played with or helped out with here in town make up like 40% of the Vegas Music Scene! LOL His Drummer Bob is making the trek with him as well, so I'm sure Die Laughing will continue in one form or another. The gig tonight @ the Arts Factory is their going away party and Die Laughing's CD Release Party, so get yer ass downtown and let's give him a proper sendoff. I'm sure he'll be back in town sometime in the future, but who knows when that will be, ya know? He is certainly going to be missed around here, but you can't help but be happy for him because you know the L.A. scene that he's moving into just got a Hell of a lot cooler, that's for sure. I raise my glass in a toast to you Larry - Big, Big Cheers Brother! All the Best to ya! See ya tonight!
I gotta cut this short, because I just found out via Facebook that Guilty By Association is playing some cancer benefit gig just down the street from my pad at some motorcycle shop on Russell, so I'm gonna go check that out and get my grub on. Neon Reverb is in town, and just doing horribly from what I'm hearing, and I couldn't be happier. It's not tanking and stinking up the joint like the Pastel Project is, but still, I'm glad both of these so-called music festivals are doing shitty, because let's face it, the bands playing these things are shitty. Over-hyped bearded hipster scum playing 70's acoustic pablum to rooms full of scenester sheep. Fuck off with that shit. Seriously.
Yeah, look at what you missed out on... heh heh
I know! A new Mapes song! And it rules!! ha ha ha It's worth watching just to see Haywood J. putting his mouth around a beer can and guzzling it down with no hands involved! LOL Now that's Sexy times 12! ;-) Oh man, Friday night was sooooooooo much fun. Yeah, I know everyone and their Mom went to that Adolescents / Youth Brigade / Vermin gig @ LVCS (sheep), and I heard it was a pretty OK show (what was up with TheCore cancelling?) but the gig @ the Arts Factory had better bands and a record swap meet, with lots of crates and boxes full of colored vinyl goodness! I was in Heaven!! ha ha ha I easily blew hundreds of dollars stocking up my vinyl collection with stuff I used to have and stuff that I never had before. F-U-N. Phooey to the elitist record collecting scum dogs who wouldn't take my money for their records. I lost out on a few choice pieces of vinyl because of it, but that's OK because it was their loss. :-) All the Bands that played were cool. Vanish Twin from AZ. were easily the highlight of the night, playing some twisted Neurosis type ambient noise grind-core shit. Here's a video of them doing a song called Looking For Flames. I stopped recording at the end of the video because I thought they went into a different song. ;-) They continued playing for like 3 minutes after I stopped filming... heh.
Yeah, I was just hanging out and walking around doing my thing and observing the happenings and goings ons and whatnot. Life's Torment kicked things off with a blistering set of Noise not Music that was just broooootal as fuck. Why don't these guys just pack the places they play in with fans going ape shit over their music is beyond me, but whatever. I'm all about catching small, intimate performances with little to no one there, as opposed to big HOB corrals full of automatons and sheeple. Lame. Watching Bob play drums is a trip, because he's a lefty, but his technique is destructive and he's got a good sense of timing and fills which is cool to watch. Larry looks like he's channeling demons when he plays his guitar and screams into the microphone, and Travis acts like he's being tortured and mutilated while he shreds the bass and screams along. Life's Torment are fucking Ace and they just get better and better every time I see them. They're pretty fucking sick and you should check them out each and every time you get the chance. If you like your Punk music chainsaw fast and just as delicate, then look no further than Life's Torment. They bring it each and every time. I posted the photos I took that night already, and they're over to the left of these words. ------------------------>
Speaking of checking things out, check out this thing that Fuzz, one time bartender extraordinaire at the Legendary Cooler Lounge (R.I.P.) has going on. It's a solo project called Fuzz So Low (get it?) with Fuzz playing guitar while accompanying himself on a kick drum and set of high hats. It was pretty cool stuff and it's always fun watching Fuzz kick out the jams. Kick out the jams... get it? Oh, the puns are flying fast and furious today! :-)
Fuzz So Low played inside, and everyone else played outside. Good Greens ( a total Sublime rip off band) played inside, and Spotted Dick And The Love Stew cancelled. Again. Do those guys just sign up to play gigs and then don't play them or something? LOL Sabertooth Snatch (from AZ.) played, and they were pretty good, in a Victim's Family kind of way. I don't think they went over too well with the majority of the crowd, either because they were a bit different then what Die Laughing and Life's Torment threw down, or because everyone was inside checking out the Record Swap Meet. Either or, not a lot of people were checking out Sabertooth Snatch, which was a shame because they were pretty good. Check them out for yourself and see.
_And last but not least is Die Laughing. They were pretty good but their set kind of just meshed into the Life's Torment set, because they played back to back from each other and they're basically the same band but with a different bass player. How Bob pulled that one off I'll never know. ;-) The music they play is kick ass though, so it makes it worth it. Their set was short but sweet, ending with a Black Flag cover that brought Travis from Life's Torment back on stage to handle lead vocals. Check out the video and see how well they did thrashing out Gimme Gimme Gimme. So yeah, there's my little video wrap up of everything that was going on at the Arts Factory last Friday night. It was a great time and if you weren't there, then you're lame. And if you were at that gig at the LVCS instead of this one, then you're stupid - real stupid. :-)
Yeah, I realize the irony in protesting censorship of the Internet by self-censoring myself ON the Internet, but still, pretty funny stuff. It's also funny how the news about the censorship of the Internet movement was spread via the Internet as well. Oh the delicious irony! The fact that some people out there optimistically believe that they have any say in what the Government is or isn't going to do is laughable to me, although this little censorship issue apparently caused 30 Senators and Congressmen to flip-flop on their position on this, so who knows? Maybe the People can have a say in what goes on in their Government? Or maybe this is feeding the masses just enough to keep them from starving. Giving the dog a bone. Whatever. I thought it was interesting. I participated. The End.
Hey! I don't know if you saw the flyer on your way in here, but there is this pretty fun looking gig happening this Friday at the LVCS: Adolescents / Youth Brigade / The Vermin / TheCore It should be interesting, to say the least. I haven't seen either headlining band in a while, so hearing them running through their 'Greatest Hits set seems like a pretty good way to cap off a Friday night. My Friday night is going to start at the Hellpop Record Swap Meet, where I'm gonna have a grip of cash to buy records with, and if I'm not too busy drooling over some pretty colored vinyl, I might check out some of the bands that are playing, which includes Life's Torment, Die Laughing and, of course, The Mapes. <3 There's some new band playing that's composed of members of 1/2 Ast, but those guys don't like me anymore, so phooey to them. Check them out if you're there though.
Speaking of things you should check out if you're so inclined, tonight @ the Double Down Deadhand are playing some AVN kickoff party or some shit. They're playing with some shitty bands that aren't worth mentioning, bands that think that sexual gimmicks and sloppy blow jobs will allow them to 'make it', whatever that means. The sad part is that some of my Friends like them... Jeesh! hahaha Whatever, go check out Deadhand tonight - you will not be disappointed, unless they decide to play some of their shitty acoustic covers they've been doing as of late for that other 'Punk Rock' website here in town. Acoustic guitars are NOT Punk Rock. Neither are beards, for that matter. Get over it already. Seriously.
_Oh, Saturday night this band called Thousand Watt Stare is playing at the Bikini Bar. I'm told they're pretty good and that I might like them, but again, they're playing with some shitty band that's not worth supporting and because of that, I'll be staying at home. Man, I wish these people in these bands would just go away. You can't talk shit about people, run away without paying what you owed them, burning all your bridges in this town and then move away and then come back after a few years and just act like everything is OK and all is forgotten and forgiven. Just because you found new people to believe your bullshit doesn't mean that you're the 'Cool Guy' that those ignorant few think you are. Well, it's either that or maybe I'm just an asshole, I dunno... heh heh Bikini Bar is a cool place, and if you got nothing better to do on Saturday then stop by and check out Thousand Watt Stare and tell me how they were. :-)
Sunday! Sunday!! Sunday!!! Old School Metal comes to the House of Boooooo's when Anthrax, Testament and Death Angel tear shit up there. I've seen all 3 of those bands many, many times before and if I'm feeling all nostalgic I may just stop by and see how well they've aged. Anthrax's new album Worship Music is pretty good, so I may go just to hear how new songs like Fight 'Em Till You Can't and The Devil You Know sound live. And, to watch Charlie Benante play drums. <3
Everything is updated. See you around.
I had a pretty good weekend planned out. I really did. I was gonna start Friday night out by heading down to the Cheyenne Saloon to catch my Nephew DJ Chis opening up for Sen Dogg from Cypress Hill there, and then after that was finished I was gonna head to Vamp'd to catch Green Jelly and the Vermin, which I had been hyping my friends about all week. Problem was, a certain band I wanted nothing to do with was opening the gig, a fact that I only found out about when the flyer was finally made available to the public 2 days before the gig. Yeah, I know. Don't get me started. So I told my friends I wouldn't be at the gig, and they tried to talk me into going anyways, but I stood my ground and stayed away. After over sleeping and missing out on my Nephews set, I decided to pursue other non-musical endeavors that evening. Totally worth it too. :-) Saturday was my plan was all about Football and seeing Nick Razor and G.F.I. @ the Cheyenne Saloon that night, who were playing with Guilty By Association and Rule Of Thumb, I think. Anyways, just like before, a few days before the gig I find out that another band I want nothing to do with are playing the gig that night, and even though they are notorious for booking gigs and not showing up to them, I again decided to stay away and avoid the possibility of any Drama. Again, I got better things to do. Like eat, drink and be merry! :-) So I started the day out with Jeremy testing out some bass pedals he picked up from Cowtown Guitars, and then it was off to Jesse & Roxie's to watch the game. After watching the Raiders lose to the 40-Whiners I went home with a belly full of enchiladas and a better disposition to deal with the Drama I had waiting for me there. And to do laundry. Yup. Fun stuff. Speaking of fun stuff, think this pretty much says it all. I love the title of the email - reads like a newspaper headline! hee hee hee This Gilbert Astrada dude is in serious trouble! ;-) And please note that he sent a copy of the email to "702cop112", but yet tells me if I don't comply with his wishes he will turn the matter over to Metro when, apparently, he already has. Cute. GILBERT ASTRADA CAUGHT VANDALIZING LOCAL BUSINESSMark Hornsby xxxxxxxxxxxxx@yahoo.com to ge138, 702cop112 show details Sunday August 21 11:31 PM (15 minutes ago) Hi Gilbert Astrada~My name is Mark and I have you on video surveillance tagging my club up with your stickers. In the real world that's called VANDALISM and it's against the law. You obviously didn't look up at any of the 15 cameras I have in my bar. The date was on Sunday, August 14 2011. I suggest you come in and explain why this happened to me or this will be turned over to metro and you can explain to them. You have 48 hours to get this handled or it will be dealt with legally. Truly.*M Mark HornsbyMHC (LLC)Yeah, I don't think I'll be supporting the Cheyenne Saloon anytime in the future, to say the least, which is just fine. I got better things to do and if he's serious about pursuing this legally, then I guess we'll go that route. He told his Cop friend. I told my Lawyer. We'll see how this plays out. :-) I Heart Nirvana, which is the only reason why this picture is here. :-) Ahhhhhhh, such a beautiful Monday morning. I think I'll go out and enjoy it and see what kind of mischief I can get into. Pretty quiet week musically, with the weekend having only one must see gig, that being the Mapes / Maxies gig @ the Motor City Cafe. If you're feeling brave you can venture out to Hendertucky to see the Tinglerz, but I wouldn't advise it, and neither does my Lawyer. :-) There's some Thrash shows @ the Sanctuary, Yayo, the Bunkhouse, whatever, happening this weekend, and you can check out the Gig Calendar page for all the info, and then there's that Butthole Surfers gig happening @ the Palms on Sunday, which, I dunno, just bums me out to no end. The last time I saw the Butthole Surfers, they were playing a big stage, during their MTV Alternative Nation moment in the sun, and they seemed kind of lost up there, and it definitely didn't feel like a Butthole Surfers gig from where I was standing. Good but not Essential like it used to be. I can't imagine it will be any different at the Palms. Oh well. Could just be the 'Old Guy' in me, but I'd rather not see it. Have fun if you're going though. :-) Everything's updated, all the Pictures from the Pentagram / Pigasus / Dead Neon / Demon Lung / 21 Strong gig @ the Cheyenne are up, and hopefully they won't be the last pictures I take there but if they are, oh well. :-) I got some video from that night too, and I'll upload that later. The Maxies are from Greenland people - GREENLAND!! :-)
