Well shit... cancelled band practice means I actually get some time to do website related stuff. Now all I gotta do is remember everything that I've been posting...
I guess the thing I'm most proud of is the Gig Review
of the Queers
/ Teenage Bottlerocket
/ The Copyrights
get together @ the Beauty Bar
last month. Click here
to read it. I wish I had someone to help me edit photos, because writing this shit up is easy. It's getting the photos done that makes things so sloooOOOOoww. Anyways, the gig was amazeballz. Give it a read and see what you missed out on. I hope that Copyrights
fan boy doesn't take umbrage with what I said about his favorite band ever... ha ha ha
The Music Review
for the Desert Rats With Baseball Bats
compilation, put together by Cody from The People's Whiskey
, John from Battle Born
and Camel Hump Studios
, and Squid Hat Records
, is up and available for reading, and you can click here
to do just that. It's kind of hard not to be a bit biased about this release when a band I'm in is on it, but I tried to give it an honest review, and not too much of a kiss ass one. The releases is really something that everyone involved with should be proud of, because it's really fucking good and it's something that perfectly captures a particularly productive time from the Vegas Scene, even though a few bands on that CD are no longer active and gigging around. Le sigh.
I posted the Pictures of The Inside Outlaws up to the website, and you can click here to check those out. I saw them when they opened for 3D6 @ Bar 702 a while back. Beardcore but they were OK. The Singer was an entertaining nutter, that's for sure.
:-) Everything is updated. California was a blast. Looking back at all the pictures I took just makes me wonder what the fuck I'm doing still living in Vegas... LOL
I came out of practice yesterday, and heard this band raging full on a few blocks away from my house, running through Won't Get Fooled Again
by The Who
, which is a pretty ballsy tune to cover. Then right after that they launched into Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
by Van Halen
. I walked the 2 blocks from my house to where the band was rocking out at, and I sat down on a low brick wall, directly across the street from the house they were playing in. They really sounded good, giving it their all, with lots of shout outs to 'Come on', 'Let me hear ya!', 'Turn it up!' and so on. They announced that they were about to play their last song, and as the perfect Classic Rock trifecta, they closed with Rock And Roll All Nite
. I was a happy camper indeed. The front door of the house opened up, and this motley group of 30-40 year old gentlemen came outside to have a smoke and they saw me sitting on the wall checking them out. 'Were you listening to us? Did you like it?' they asked. Yeah
, I told them, you're pretty good
. We made introductions and I asked them if they played gigs anywhere and whatnot. 'Naaah', one of them told me, 'we do it just for fun'. I thought that was a really cool reason to be in a band, and I hung out with them for a bit before I excused myself from their little get together. As I was walking away from those guys, heading back to mi casa,
I heard this Indie Pop warbling coming from a house about 5 houses down from where the Classic Rock band was holding court. They sounded like The Kills
, The Dead Weather
, The Black Keys
, that kind of lame, nerdy stuff, and they were playing in a garage with the door wide open, not very loudly, of course, and a few of their friends were just hanging around checking them out and bobbing their heads to the music accordingly. Once they were finished with their song, they noticed me standing there on the sidewalk checking them out, and the guitarist/vocalist asked me if I liked what I heard. I lied and said that I did, and that they were pretty good, yada yada yada, and I asked for the name of their band. I swear, every individual band member shouted out a different name, and them and their friends all had a good laugh about it, and someone, the bass player I think, said, 'We're just messing around and having fun.' And that's when it hit me. The Message. I was kind of getting mired down in the machinery and drudgery of The Bands, Band Stuff, whatever, as of late, and I had forgotten that playing music is supposed to be about having fun. That was the message the universe was dramatically reminding me of Saturday night, and for that I am Thankful, because, when it stops being fun, when it starts to feel like a job you don't like doing, then it's time to change things up. It's time to leave. After the Dr.'s on Thurs., and after hearing the message someone was trying to tell me, I'm definitely reevaluating things and getting my priorities straight. I want Music to be Fun again, and it's going to be. Or else. I have got to make that happen again. Or else.
I missed out on Tartar Control. Everyone that was there said they were amazing. The shenanigans I did get into that night instead of the gig were astonishing though. I went from having a quiet romantic dinner night staying in to running wild in the streets until 2 pm. the next day. I was in bed by 3. I think I was doing OK so far. :-)
Up at 8 pm, out of bed by 9. Jeremy and Bob arrive and we're on our way to the gig @ the Double Clown by 10. Commence hard drinking immediately upon arrival. Opening bands were pretty craptacular, but Soto St. was pretty good. They totally copped that China White riff though... heh heh The Vegascendents played a spectacular set, from what I'm told. I missed the girl go go dancing, I missed the pit action and stage diving, but I did see the band head for higher ground when the slamming got out of hand... LOL It was a fun night and Thanx! to everyone for all the free booze and well wishes. As you can see on the front of the website, Bob had a lot more fun than I did though... heh heh heh It was my birthday, and Bob is the one who's passed out and puking on the sidewalk - go figure. And as for the ensuing shenanigans immediately afterwords, the names and places have been changed to protect the guilty, for you see, no one was innocent that night - nope! hahaha Blackmail pictures exist. I'm working with my Lawyer to prevent them from ever seeing the light of day. I'm in bed by 1 pm. Annihilated.
I'm up at 2 pm. On the way to Jesse and Roxie's by 3. Next thing I know is I'm splitting a bottle of Pendleton with Brandi Lynn, Zak's better half who also had a birthday this weekend and she was at the Double Clown on Sat. and celebrating hard too. We had an amazing beef brisket dinner with Family and Friends and ate purple cake and watched Sugar Man and The Who - Live in '75 videos. The cool kids played Super Mario Bros Wii. The rest of us watched. The bad kids were outside smoking. The rest of us drank. I was in bed by midnight, after Bob stopped by to unload the van and apologize for dropping the ball. I told him to shut up and not worry about it. I was hallucinating and seeing double by the time I passed out. Seriously.
And here we are today. I woke up at 1 pm, finished off that beef brisket Roxie sent me Home with, caught up on Facebook crap and Thanked everyone for the birthday well wishes, and sat in front of my monitor and watching Howard Stern roasts and trying to make sense of it all. Thanks to everyone for all the fun. I wished for nothing and got everything. It was the best. <3
Today is November 11th, 2011, which means...
We're only making plans for Nigel...
Yup! Today, everything gets turned up to 11!! Who wants to think about what our War Veterans have done for our Country, let's just bask in the warming ignorance and brilliant stupidity that is Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap. He has an armadillo in his trousers and it's really quite frightening. :-)
And... speaking of the Veterans, here's the #1 Reason Why Nothing's Getting Done On The Website:
There are actually NO black people in this Military force, just like in real life!
Yeah, shit's come to a grinding halt around here, with pretty much all of my free time devoted to playing this. Well, that and going to the Hospital for a bit of an emergency visit. They did give me a bit of unsettling news while I was there, but I'm not putting too much into it right now. P.M.A., right? Right!
When I'm not yelling profanities at inanimate objects or throwing up blood for hours on end I'm trying to get stuff up on here, and since I'm usually snookered off my gourd half the time I write this, the occasional mistake or 2 or 7 will pop up on here, and I made a doozy in my last posting concerning that High On Fire gig @ the Beauty Bar this Sunday. It's not Dead Neon that's opening up that gig - it's Demon Lung! Damn that O.G Sour Kush! ha ha ha Anyways, it's Demon Lung who will be rattling the walls of the Beauty bar on Sunday and I'm assured by the Band that they will play NO Black Sabbath covers in their set! LOL They have new songs to play now, and I for one can't wait to hear them. See ya there!
Demon Lung is opening... Demon Lung...
And another thing you will see me at is that Mapes gig @ the Arts Factory on Saturday. It's something for the Grand Opening of 3 new stores inside of there, including
Lord Baron Von Dong-Dong's new comic book store, HellPop!
, and there's a bunch of bands playing, like My First Rodeo
, The Who's Next
, Electric Hessian
, The Cowboy Luggage Salesman
and Sheep On A Cliff
, and it's FREE and it's All Ages, so nobody has an excuse not to be there. Nobody! I'm blowing off the live cast performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show
@ the Sci-Fi Center
to see the Mapes
, because I can't even think of the last time I saw them, and that's not a good thing. :-(
Is that Capt. Whiskey on this flyer??
I mean, what else are you gonna do on a Saturday night? Hang out at the Grand Opening of the new Goth Club here in Vegas? ;-)
Yeah, apparently Scoundrels has been doing sooooooo good with their little twice a month Goth night that now Artifice
is looking into tapping some of that crowd to hang out at their bar downtown, which I personally don't mind. I love hanging out at Goth bars, and I got nothing but Love L-U-V down there at Artifice
, so it's a win-win for me! Woo Hoo!And speaking of winning...
I think that's all that needs to be said about that... heh heh heh The Raiders are #1 in the AFC West, and I for one couldn't be happier. :-)
I'm not gonna be at this gig, but maybe you should be! :-) I only post this flyer because I got nothing but Good Good Things for the critters in the Civilians, so if you're into Kevin Seconds or chicks from L.A. playing crappy covers of some English punk band, then stop by the Bunkhouse on Sunday. Hoist a few pints for me, won't ya mate? Oi! ha ha ha
We don't censor shit around here, i.e Cunt Sparrer.
Well, the sun is hiding behind the gray clouds. My buzz is wearing off. It's 7:45 in the morning. I gotta get back to playing video games and watching The Three Amigos. :-) Have a great weekend everyone. I'll be around. Promise!
Phooey! The hard as fuck work has begun. We're currently undergoing a major search for a new singer... and although we have an idea about what we want / demand from a singer, to find someone who actually fits the criteria is a whole different matter entirely. Me and Jesse and Roxie went halves on a killer JBL monitor from Guitar Center... thank Allah for employee discounts! We figured since we were gonna be trying out singers that it would be nice to be able to hear them, ya know? I heard about what happened at The Office Bar the other night... damn crazy Punk kids... and to the JACKASS that put a dent into our brand new tour van, you better pay up now! I still haven't gotten the Pictures
from Utah back yet, but I did correct the story and it displays properly now. Other than that... I got nothing to say.
