Nests are one of those bands that I'm always raving about, and yet nobody seems to know who the fuck they are. I saw them a couple of times and was just completely floored as to how 'Punk Rock' the band was, both in sound and attitude, and as I hyped them up, telling people that they had to check them out ASAP, the band sort of... disappeared. They went a bit underground as personal things were dealt with, and not a peep was seen or heard from them for awhile, although I saw the singer Jordan around at gigs every so often. Now the silence has been broken and Nests have reemerged and are back and gigging around as of late, and with that new surge of enthusiasm towards playing again comes a new 5 song release called EP, and it's a fucking scorcher. Clocking in at a little under 2 and a half minutes, every song on here is just pure, unadulterated Punk Rock genius. Loud. Fast. Hard. Abrasive. Guttural. Thrashy. Noisy. Real. I wish I could tell you what songs like Demons (my fave), Hardcore Is Gay And I Could Care Less, and Gasoline Speed are about, but I have no idea what's being said/screamed/growled/whatever, and that's pretty damn cool. The music is a massive wall of noise, with guitars, bass and drums all seeming to fight it out over who's going to be heard the loudest. Recording is really Lo-Fi - it's even worse sounding than their last release - but that's OK, because that's how Punk Rock is supposed to sound. Stuff like this gives me hope for the future. It's heartwarming to know that a band that sounds like a cross between early Corrosion Of Conformity, Jerry's Kids, and Negative Approach exists, let alone exists and is alive and well in my city, and fucking Nests are the ones doing Las Vegas proud. Somebody please put these kids in a proper studio and watch them record a masterpiece that will send shock waves around the world. Seriously. Nests. I fucking LOVE IT! :-)
The Nests EP release is available on the bands Band Camp page, which you can go to by clicking here. The band has a sort-of website, which you can go to by clicking here. I don't think there's a Nests Facebook page yet...
