Friday night, I'm standing outside the Badlands Saloon, talking to Bob about how he's going to get down to the Onyx Theatre in time for the Premier of the movie he's in, Stripped, which is a documentation of one guy's obsession of photographing various interesting people naked, and I'm standing there chatting away while all the time watching various transexual, transvestites and cross dressing males go in and out of the bar. My kind of place. I make a mental note to check it out later on. I tell Bob I'm on my way to pick him up and bring him to the venue. We smoke a shitload of Bubble Kush before we go in. And so the fun begins.
I haven't seen her in years, since the Buzzcocks played that Sailor Jerry's Bash @ the Celebrity Theater downtown a while back. I watched her walking through the parking lot, Beauty and Style and Smarts combined into one Hell of a package. I just love looking at her. It makes me happy. This movie is her baby. She's a Co-Producer. Who knew? LOL I have the greatest Friends ever. In a surreal moment, I'm watching her on the big screen, talking about her involvement in the movie, all the while listening to her crack wise behind me. I'm in a theater full of many of the people who took part in this Stripped project, and it's definitely odd seeing them fashionably dressed and sitting around me, and then seeing them completely naked and vulnerable on the big screen. Definitely a 'Vegas Only' moment.
Yeah, this movie Stripped, has been on my mind all weekend. In a nutshell, it's basically about people getting naked and being photographed, and the process involved therein. Being naked and having yur picture taken is not as easy a thing to do as it sounds. If you've ever taken photos of yourself mid-coitus, or freshly out of the shower, then you know how harsh a reality that can be to see ones self au-natural. The movie itself is great; well written, fast paced, and full of surprising emotions and revelations and information. I liked it for all the wrong reasons. If you take the whole 'nudity' aspect of this movie away, it would still be a great watch. That might be the hook but it's in no way what keeps you compelled to keep watching. It's funny how the nudity thing takes a backseat to the story being told, when it's that everyday aspect of Life that's brought all of these people together - housewives, gay couples, school teachers, showgirls, lawyers, cross dressers, casino dealers and, of course, an Elvis impersonator, all with the courage and will to be weird to do something like this. The man behind the film, David Palmer, does an amazing job of capturing what one aspect of the whole 'Vegas Experience' is about - the crys for attention, the need to be heard, the telling of their own story in their own words, and in a city full of people full of stories, from the Freaks, Lovers, Normals and Gamblers, all the way down to the Homeless, they all bare themselves, not to be judged, and not to be understood, just to be. No matter the reason why these people did this thing, the stories as to what brought them to this particular point of their lives where they were comfortable enough to pose naked for the camera's eye, that's the real meat of the story. Mesmorizing stuff. Even more mesmorizing when it's people you know or are mildly acquainted with. The man behind the books, Greg Friedler, is a great photographer, with an eye for capturing people at their most beautific, horrific, and most honest, and his charm in getting people to participate in the project is amusing to watch. Click here to see the Promo video about the film. It will definitely peek your interest in seeing this flick. I loved it. I'm a fan. This movie is going to be broadcast on Showtime all this month, with the first showing happening on the 18th, so definitely check this film out if it sounds even the littlest bit of interesting to you, or you can go here and buy the DVD. You can still catch it @ the Onyx Theater, every Wednesday night, and seeing Bob's package on a theater screen is worth the price of admission alone. Miami, BITCHES !!haahahahahahaa
Vegas, Yeah. I think I might miss you...
