Nekromantix / Lobo Negro / Black Rose Phantoms / The Loud Pipes / Holy Smokes / Big Rig / Absent Minded @ The Huntridge Theater

Where do I begin to tell you how FUCKED up this show was from the get go? As soon as we walked into the Huntridge it was complete tough guy attitude from all the Psychobilly wankers that were in there, with their gay ass looking hair and their stand up basses. They all thought they were just the hottest thing ever, and I just had a really bad feeling that it was gonna get real ugly before it got pretty, ya know? And then we found out from Tom that instead of 3 bands on the bill, it was now bumped up to 7! What the fuck was that all about? Apparently some bands weaseled their way onto the bill, and you can look at the flyer to the left and figure out which ones were supposed to play, and which ones were just being leeches. I mean, these ball-less ass fuckers had the gall to pick on Brandon from Absent Minded (guess they were jealous of his guitar playing) when I was standing around. They were just talking loud and begging for trouble. Fucking pussies. I love the fact that they pick on the one little guy that didn’t want any trouble, ignoring Jesse and I who were looking for trouble and we were both sizing up victims to beat the dog shit out of when things went sour. Fucking Psychobilly cowards... I piss on the whole lot of them.
Anyways, Absent Minded were up first, and I have no idea why they were OPENING for Big Rig and the Holy Smokes... who the fuck are those clowns anyways? I heard they were Local bands, and I heard they were AZ. bands... in either case, they shouldn't of been on the bill! Not because they sucked (which they did), but because they didn’t flyer for the gig... weren't on any of the ads for the show... NOTHING! Absent Minded were so good (as always) and people dug the shit out of them. They really are my favorite Local band, and when you consider how young they are, it just makes it all the more remarkable. Absent Minded are an incredible band and play around town all the time... go see them NOW!!
Big Rig played next and just totally lost all the momentum that Absent Minded got going with their set. Did I mention that Big Rig sucked? Good. Holy Smokes were up next and the only thing that made them different than all the other Psychobilly bands that were playing was that they had a harmonica player... big whoop. Did I mention that they sucked as well? Good.
We were up next and we proceeded to fuck shit up Loud Pipes style, although nothing got broke, except for my drum sticks! I didn’t think that the crowd was going to like us that much, but the pit was raging our whole set, and all the people who were outside during the previous 2 crappy bands came in to watch us go off... it was so great!! We dedicated the set we played to the memory of Bruce Lee, and to the anniversary of the Apollo moon landing... and Jesse gave a special shout out to some friends in attendance as well. I thought we played a great sounding set, and a big Thanks to all the people who pogo and slam around and pump their fists in the air to us when we play and who know the words to the songs better than Bryan does! Just kidding.
Black Rose Phantoms were up next and I cannot stress the fact enough that they sucked! Pathetic band with a fucking weak ass sissy drummer backing a bunch of stupid looking Psychobilly fucks trying to play like 7 Seconds... talk about an identity crisis! If it wasn't for the fact that they were using the same equipment that the Nekromantix were using, they also would have / should have been the opening band. Did I mention that they sucked? Good.
Even though they too were sharing the same equipment with the Nekromantix, it took forever for Lobo Negro to start playing, and believe me, it wasn't worth the wait. They're from CA., and they had the biggest bunch of pricks / friends / wanna-be tough guys with them, but the funny thing is, once those fucks saw us play, suddenly they lost all their attitude and swagger. Guess they were shocked at how violent and scary we are when we play, or maybe it was the fact that they saw that we walk it like we talk it, hmmmm? In any case... they were a little better than all the other crappy Psychobilly bands that played, but that's not saying much…. heh heh heh.
The Nekromantix played last, but I was so sick and tired of hearing all those other crappy Psychobilly bands that I didn't even pay any attention to them really... sounded boring to me. Besides, I was too busy chatting with everyone outside and hanging out eating the ice creams that Caty bought back from somewhere... they were sooooo good! Big Sticks and Popsicles... yummm. God Bless Caty and the plastic tubing that she now has running in and out of her body... she's the best. Everywhere I went people were like "Where are you getting the ice cream from?" ha ha ha It was funny. After a while the show ended and everybody went home or whatever. So to bring this diatribe to a close... fuck the Psychobilly bands that played this show... fuck the pussies in the audience that liked them, or are friends with them, and a big FUCK OFF to the assholes that were in attendance. Why don't you all go die?

Man... it was very surprising to see who came out to this show and who didn't. Whenever there are a ton of bimbos in one place, it can never be a good thing. LOL At least they were all at Skate City to see the opening band Pendleton, who played a kinda good set of some screaming Emo core with odd timings and unusual stop / starts. The music was good but the screaming was pretty harsh, and made me leave the room holding my ears. Sounded like a hamster getting raped. Sounded much better from the outside though. 200 Scene points for Hank... Katy... Bobby... Marco... Rick... Donnie... all for making the effort to see the show, and 500 more for being that damn cool! At least Bobby didn’t have to hold up my drum set like he did the last show at the Java Joint! LOL After Pendleton, Bide was up next, and I don’t remember much about them, except that I liked them. Reminded me of someone good, but I can’t remember who...hmmmmm. Bullet Train To Vegas were up next and just shredded through a set of fucking great Noise / Pop / Punk Rock that had me standing there in amazement! How can a band be so great? Pitt asked me, and I couldn't answer him. And I still don’t have the answers. I don’t know fuck all about this band, except that they are really really really good and put on a Hell of an intense show. Despite the fact that the bass player was borrowing someone else's bass rig, Bullet Train To Vegas just totally rocked and I wish I didn’t have to miss most of their set to set up my drum kit dammit! While setting up my kit it was funny when Pitt took out Bryan by sliding down the load in ramp and knocking him over though. I’m sure the video Bryan was shooting of Bullet Train To Vegas looks great because of it. ;-) All the girls with the cool cars their parents bought for them left after Pendleton played, and by the time we got up to play a lot more people had left too, but we still ripped through a great set. Lots of fun. Jesse didn’t seem to think so, but he's a Musician, so what are you going to do, ya know? Me and Bryan both loved the fact that the people that were there last night had never seen us before... and they seemed to like us... which is just a few more steps in The Loud Pipes quest for world domination, Pinky! Heh heh heh Good gig.

What a great way to spend the Holiday... getting wasted in the park with your Friends and playing with some really nice bands... not good bands, but nice bands. We got there kinda early to partake of all the free food and drinks waiting for us in our backstage tent area, and ran into Hank and his brother... Brett... Brittany... Katy... all the usual suspects! Didn't catch the name of the first band, and was too busy adjusting to my new surroundings to notice what they sounded like... sorry.
By Death's Design got things started with an alright set of some quasi Emo / Metal songs that didn't seem to really go anywhere, but maybe it was just me though. I ran into Patrick (Pulsar) in the crowd, and he was telling me and Hank (fresh from Portland!) about his trip to Atlanta for some debate finals he was in for school, and about the girl with pink hair that he likes... awwwwwww!!
We (The Loud Pipes) were up next, like an hour before we were supposed to be playing, and quickly got up on stage and fucked shit up... literally! ha ha ha The drum set they gave me to use was a piece of shit that didn't hold up to the beating I was giving it, and broke down halfway through the first song. Booooooooo. There were a lot of kids that braved the heat to see us play, and for that I'm eternally grateful, and when they started circle pitting while we were playing, and the fact that Ch. 13 News broadcast a little bit of us playing our set, well Wowsers, it makes all the bullshit worth it, ya know? It wasn't even that hot really (not for Vegas anyways), but once we started playing, I knew we were gonna be in trouble. We came out firing hard and fast, but the heat wore us out quickly. By the last song we were drained and melted, but people liked us, and we sold ALL of our merch! Woo Hoo! Although, to be honest, I think Roxie drank most of the profits by the end of the night! LOL
The Happy Campers had the tent next to ours and they had a wading pool in there and tons of beer on ice. Very cool guys to let Roxie lounge around in her bikini and drink all of their beers... heh heh. I have no idea of who played after us or in what order, but I will tell you this... they all sounded the same. Boring... Bland... Predictable. I wish I took the time to get to know their band names, so I could slag them off one by one personally, but they were all so equally crappy I didn't even bother. And that one band that kept thanking X-treme Radio... what ass kissers. They're not gonna play your shitty music dude, no matter how nice you are to them. And that was weird too... every band that played on the bill was super nice... easy to talk to... get along with... but just music wise, I thought they all sucked! LOL I did pay attention to Over It... just wasn't impressed. Watched the Happy Campers play... and every girl I've ever seen in a mall here in town was out to see them. And I felt sorry for the guy in the black bear suit that was dancing on stage with them to their very Lagwagon / Millencollin influenced music. It was also funny watching people backstage make fun of their poppy Punk music while they were on stage. Nice.
Like the people in the band Ozma... super nice people, but man, their music SUCKED! I couldn’t believe that the Goth looking chick was playing keyboards... man. The only way I could describe their music is to say that it’s something that Bryan probably listens to...heh heh.
Once it started cooling down, I knew it was Stop! Hammer time! so, I left the backstage activity and rushed over to the other stage to catch MC Hammer in all his glory, but man, was I disappointed! No baggy pants... no screwy glasses... nothing! He looked like every other rapper you see on MTV or BET, and he didn’t even play any of the hits, at least as long as I was there!! All his dancers looked like rejects from a Nelly video, but I was having fun watching the drunks in the crowd dancing to the MC Hammer groove, so that was cool. I left like midway through the set, which sounded like mostly stuff from his new album, but I did see Keil & Joie and Spencer and his lovely date smiling at the MC Hammer thing. They all agreed that MC Hammer needed some new moves though... lol. Wandered back to the X-treme stage to catch the tail end of the Yellowcard set... and the only thing that differentiated them from all the other mediocre bands that played before them was that they had a violin player... other than that... big deal. They sucked. The Drummer was a cool guy though. And a lot of people seemed to know the words to their songs, so yeah. After Yellowcard's set the fireworks show began, and apparently so did the fights between the Skaters and the BMX’ers... about 300 of them! The fight completely fucked up the Sub Skates booth, and the tension carried over into The Vandals set, who only seemed to care about getting big titty fat white girls with cut off wife beaters and beer guts on the stage to dance for them. Saw Katy up front taking pictures of The Vandals, but I thought to myself... why? I've dealt with them personally in the past and knew they were assholes back then, and from what I saw tonight, they still are. What a joke. At about 10:30 the plug was pulled on The Vandals and the show was over. Booooo. Those of you that saw the utter BULLSHIT that happened when the Metro Pigs came goosestepping in with their mace cans drawn know how fucked up it was afterwards. The people that got arrested were the ones doing nothing, but the cops didn’t care... all just a body count to them... fuckwads.
