Written by GE 138. What a great way to spend the Holiday... getting wasted in the park with your Friends and playing with some really nice bands... not good bands, but nice bands. We got there kinda early to partake of all the free food and drinks waiting for us in our backstage tent area, and ran into Hank and his brother... Brett... Brittany... Katy... all the usual suspects! Didn't catch the name of the first band, and was too busy adjusting to my new surroundings to notice what they sounded like... sorry. By Death's Design got things started with an alright set of some quasi Emo / Metal songs that didn't seem to really go anywhere, but maybe it was just me though. I ran into Patrick (Pulsar) in the crowd, and he was telling me and Hank (fresh from Portland!) about his trip to Atlanta for some debate finals he was in for school, and about the girl with pink hair that he likes... awwwwwww!! We (The Loud Pipes) were up next, like an hour before we were supposed to be playing, and quickly got up on stage and fucked shit up... literally! ha ha ha The drum set they gave me to use was a piece of shit that didn't hold up to the beating I was giving it, and broke down halfway through the first song. Booooooooo. There were a lot of kids that braved the heat to see us play, and for that I'm eternally grateful, and when they started circle pitting while we were playing, and the fact that Ch. 13 News broadcast a little bit of us playing our set, well Wowsers, it makes all the bullshit worth it, ya know? It wasn't even that hot really (not for Vegas anyways), but once we started playing, I knew we were gonna be in trouble. We came out firing hard and fast, but the heat wore us out quickly. By the last song we were drained and melted, but people liked us, and we sold ALL of our merch! Woo Hoo! Although, to be honest, I think Roxie drank most of the profits by the end of the night! LOL The Happy Campers had the tent next to ours and they had a wading pool in there and tons of beer on ice. Very cool guys to let Roxie lounge around in her bikini and drink all of their beers... heh heh. I have no idea of who played after us or in what order, but I will tell you this... they all sounded the same. Boring... Bland... Predictable. I wish I took the time to get to know their band names, so I could slag them off one by one personally, but they were all so equally crappy I didn't even bother. And that one band that kept thanking X-treme Radio... what ass kissers. They're not gonna play your shitty music dude, no matter how nice you are to them. And that was weird too... every band that played on the bill was super nice... easy to talk to... get along with... but just music wise, I thought they all sucked! LOL I did pay attention to Over It... just wasn't impressed. Watched the Happy Campers play... and every girl I've ever seen in a mall here in town was out to see them. And I felt sorry for the guy in the black bear suit that was dancing on stage with them to their very Lagwagon / Millencollin influenced music. It was also funny watching people backstage make fun of their poppy Punk music while they were on stage. Nice. Like the people in the band Ozma... super nice people, but man, their music SUCKED! I couldn’t believe that the Goth looking chick was playing keyboards... man. The only way I could describe their music is to say that it’s something that Bryan probably listens to...heh heh. Once it started cooling down, I knew it was Stop! Hammer time! so, I left the backstage activity and rushed over to the other stage to catch MC Hammer in all his glory, but man, was I disappointed! No baggy pants... no screwy glasses... nothing! He looked like every other rapper you see on MTV or BET, and he didn’t even play any of the hits, at least as long as I was there!! All his dancers looked like rejects from a Nelly video, but I was having fun watching the drunks in the crowd dancing to the MC Hammer groove, so that was cool. I left like midway through the set, which sounded like mostly stuff from his new album, but I did see Keil & Joie and Spencer and his lovely date smiling at the MC Hammer thing. They all agreed that MC Hammer needed some new moves though... lol. Wandered back to the X-treme stage to catch the tail end of the Yellowcard set... and the only thing that differentiated them from all the other mediocre bands that played before them was that they had a violin player... other than that... big deal. They sucked. The Drummer was a cool guy though. And a lot of people seemed to know the words to their songs, so yeah. After Yellowcard's set the fireworks show began, and apparently so did the fights between the Skaters and the BMX’ers... about 300 of them! The fight completely fucked up the Sub Skates booth, and the tension carried over into The Vandals set, who only seemed to care about getting big titty fat white girls with cut off wife beaters and beer guts on the stage to dance for them. Saw Katy up front taking pictures of The Vandals, but I thought to myself... why? I've dealt with them personally in the past and knew they were assholes back then, and from what I saw tonight, they still are. What a joke. At about 10:30 the plug was pulled on The Vandals and the show was over. Booooo. Those of you that saw the utter BULLSHIT that happened when the Metro Pigs came goosestepping in with their mace cans drawn know how fucked up it was afterwards. The people that got arrested were the ones doing nothing, but the cops didn’t care... all just a body count to them... fuckwads.
