It's almost like I don't know where to begin. These past few days, from about Thurs. onwards, have just been, oh, I dunno, eventful? Tumultuous? Heartbreaking? Exhilarating? It's definitely been a strange run, that's for sure. After the Streetwalkin' Cheetahs gig (and if you didn't read Homeless Dyke's comment about what I wrote, and my rebuttal to that, then click here) it was all about getting ready for the Katy Jeluso benefit gig @ Triple B's. Personal drama aside, I was a bit worried about playing good for the gig for some reason, but once we all got to the venue things definitely took a turn for the better. Great fucking turnout. The crazy amount of Love being shown by everyone in the room for Katy was stunning. When she took to the stage to thank everyone for coming together to help her in her moment of need, more than a few people in the room got teary eyed. It was a night of Magic, full of amazing things and wonderful feelings. The silent auction had all sorts of cool stuff, and the raffle prizes were incredible. I bought $40 worth of tickets and lost them in about 10 minutes, so if you found them, and you won something with them, you're welcome! ;-) Oh, and the bands fucking KILLED IT!! Gawd damn were TheCore fucking great, playing old songs, new songs, and just getting the crowd going with their catchy Punk tunes. It's been a while since I've seen them, and I was digging the shit out of everything they were throwing down. I think this was the first time I've ever seen them play without Brian fucking up or having his back turned to the audience! hahahaha Just kidding! But yeah, TheCore were great, but man, was Battle Born the better band of the night. Battle Born, with fucking Nick pounding the ever loving shit out of his drum kit, just blew me away with the set they played. It was probably the best I've ever seen them perform, which is saying A LOT, because I've seen these guys numerous times over the years. Just a great set from them. Guilty By Association played a good set too, despite Tom's mechanical shortcomings for the first few songs. All the practice payed off and we turned in a stellar performance, or so people told me afterwords anyways. Again, it was a good way to end my time with them, and it's been a blast jamming with some guys I consider my good Friends. :-) The night ended in a blaze of Fuku Burgers, Jazz Fries, Sex, Drugs, Booze, and other Rock and Roll stuff like that. Fantastic night. Thanx to everyone for hanging out and just having fun with me and everyone else that was there. It was great to see sooooo many people come together to help out Katy in her time of need. This is what the real deal Las Vegas Music Scene is all about. <3 Sat. was all about keeping myself occupied and keeping my mind off of things, so Tony was escorting me all around town, starting the night off with us going to some All Ages gig at the Southern Nevada Sports Center, which is kind of right down the street from my house. We checked out some bands called We Gave It Hell and Imperial Tide, 2 up and coming Metalcore type bands who were OK. I liked Imperial Tide better than We Gave It Hell. We were definitely some of the oldest people in the place, but at least there was a fully stocked bar next door at the all ages Rave that was going on, so that made things a bit more easily tolerated. We left there to head off Downtown to meet up with Jesse & Roxie and crew @ the Beauty Bar to catch the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, which was a bit laid back and mellow, with everyone on the stage just kind of standing around, pretty much like everyone in the crowd was. White people swaying around drunkenly while listening to pseudo-Blues music held no appeal to me, so I just hung around and drank. After the JSBE were done playing, we tried to catch some band that was playing @ the Velveteen Rabbit, some band that Crazy Chief played with when they were at SXSW, but we just missed their performance, so we hung out for a bit, had fancy drinks, and then called it a night. We all had stuff to do bright and early the next day. While some people were out buying vans, my day started off bright and early with an S.F.T. band practice, who were opening up the Powerman 5000 gig @ the LVCS later that night. Why practice the day of the gig, you ask? Because they're a bunch of insecure girls, that's why! LOL After practice I kippered a nap before Tom showed up to haul the gear down there, and after unloading the stuff in our allotted area in the hallway, Bob and I headed off for some bomb ass sandwiches at some pricey Mediterranean joint across from the Heart Attack Grill. Our order had barely arrived before we were summoned back to get the kit ready, being moved up an hour and a half from our scheduled set time for some reason, and once we got the kit together we bum rushed the stage, did a quick sound check, and then proceeded to kill it as the only Punk Rock band on a bill full of shitty Nu-Metal poseurs and chicks that couldn't sing. Ugh. We stood out like sore thumbs, but at least a lot of people dug us, and we would of sold a Hell of a lot of merch if someone would of bothered to bring it... LOL Oh well. It was a fun gig, and I watched everyone rock out while Powerman 5000 put on an interesting stage show that was comprised of bright shiny lights, shouted out songs, triggered samples galore, and some monotonous drop D tuning. My night ended with me standing at my bar listening to a drunken conversation between Tom and Bob about the professionalism of the PM5K stage show, the awesomeness of the guitar players and about how cool they were, and other ass kissing shit like that. I kicked them out after a bit and passed the fuck out, sated and sedated and tired like a motherfucker. It had been an interesting run of days, that was for sure. One door closes, another one opens. Life is funny like that. :-)

Well well well... wasn't last night interesting? hahahahaha There's a great write up of the Streetwalkin' Cheetahs gig coming up, and the funny part is, people will actually read what I have to say about the bands that play, and the opening bands who was talking nothing but shit about me and the website on stage, well, they were basically talking to an empty room! LOL Man, if you have to make a flyer promoting the fact that if people come to see your band play, you'll give them a free joint, well, maybe that's a sign that your band sux and you might wanna think about a new approach to your musical endeavors... just saying! Handing out free joints afterwords as a reward for people suffering through your set wasn't enough. They deserved at least a pound for putting up with that shite. LOL Guess you were too high to notice that there were more people outside ignoring you than were inside paying attention to you. Weed as an attendance incentive. That's reaching a bit, isn't it? Maybe if you're lucky, just maybe, SOMEBODY will call the Authorities on the gigs your band plays, just like you used to do to bands you were butt hurt about, but I doubt it, because you're not even worth the effort to do that. Yeah, pathetic, whatever. I'm done. And I couldn't help but notice, but again, the little person who was drunk and ran their mouth about punching me in the face the next time they saw me, they kept walking right past me and not looking in my direction. Hmmmmm... what's up there little person? Not enough liquid courage to fuel your bravery last night? LOL Go back to the Double Clown with all the rest of your loser friends and shitty "signed" bands and fuck right off. If you're going to do something, just fucking do it. I hate when people never follow through with their threats of physical action against me. My Lawyer has been oh so bored lately... hahahahaha Why do bars and Promoters let these shitty bands play these gigs? Why? They suck and they have no draw and they don't promote. Last nights gig was proof. The only band to get a shout out from the Streetwalkin' Cheetahs was The Swamp Gospel, and there's a reason why... think about it. OK, enough with the negativity, let's move onto something a bit more positive, shall we? :-) Tonight's the night for the Katy Jeluso benefit gig @ Triple B's, with Local support being provided by Battle Born, TheCore, and Guilty By Association. It's gonna be a great night of fun and music and boobs, with lost of stuff being offered off for raffle to raise some money to help take care of all of Katy's upcoming medical bills. It would be great to see some more of my friends there than are already going to be there, and no excuses will be accepted for missing out on this event - not even the dooshy Downtown part of it! Again, as I said before, this is my last gig playing drums for Guilty By Association, because they found another drummer who can pass the Jizz Hat Records Socialist Approval Board Committee To Preserve Artistic Integrity And Encourage Blind Obedience, and I wish the guys in the band the best of luck with everything. I'll always be there for ya guys, because you're my Friends, and it has been more than a blast playing gigs and hanging around you guys doing band stuff. Looking forward to playing a great set tonight. It'd be nice if you out there reading this were there to see it. :-) Everything's updated! I'll be at the John Spencer Blues Explosion gig @ the Beauty Bar on Sat., and I'm playing a gig with S.F.T. @ the LVCS on Sun. (yeah, I know, I know), so, again, if anyone wants to just walk up to me and punch me in the face the next time they see me, I will be available for just that at both events. Looking forward to it. See ya then!! :-) I wish I could go to this gig tonight, but I can't, I just can't, and I love the Streetwalkin' Cheetahs and have loved them long before you did. I mean, I'm physically capable of going to the gig, it's just that the line up of Local bands opening up this gig is just atrocious. With the lone exception of The Swamp Gospel, every other band on the bill is utter shite. It's almost like the Dive didn't want people to come to the gig. They definitely didn't put much thought into it, much like last nights poorly planned and promoted gig with Fang, yes that's right, Fang, the legendary band from SF with the lead singer / murderer front man, the band everyone was a buzz about and asking around about, asking if it was THAT Fang, and yes, it was THAT Fang, and yet, the Dive pushed the event with the band Eat The Turnbuckle as the ones to see. Not that Eat The Turnbuckle isn't a good band, it's just that Fang would of been the better thing to draw people in, and if people would of known about it beforehand, like, more than 24 hours beforehand, then maybe someone would of showed up. Maybe. Anyways, have fun at the Streetwalkin' Cheetahs gig tonight. If you miss this one you're an Idiot. ;-) I just like to get drunk, dress up like a Pirate and play music. - Dick Vain, Singer, Bloody Ale And with a sentiment like that, it's pretty hard not to like the guys in Bloody Ale for doing what they're doing, and that's just having fun playing music, and I'm always down with that! :-) Yeah, the gig last night was pretty sweet. Good turnout for a Sunday night. Kudos to the guys in Bloody Ale for being understanding and not butt hurt pussies about what I wrote about them on the website. People told them I was talking shit about their band, but then they went and read what I wrote about them, and then they saw for themselves that I wasn't talking shit. Smart guys. ;-) Piratecore lives in Bloody Ale, and they put on a good show, lots of energy and some good Punk Rock tunes about drinking and fucking, which I can always get behind. Giggity. Not Beardcore, but Piratecore. Bloody Ale. Check them out and see what ya think. And Thanx for the drink Omar! Rule Of Thumb didn't play for some reason, so The Civilians got to play an extended set, full of drum bashing, Oi! shouting, bagpipe playing and bass solos that the crowd ate up from the first note on. It was pretty sweet and I had a fun time playing. We did a couple of new songs, You're Not Alone, and Side By Side, that seemed to go over well with the crowd. We sold lots of merch, which is always a good sign that people dig you. Thanx to Zack for manning the merch table while we were playing. He did a Gig Review of our set, and you can click here to check it out. :-) All us Civilians were hanging out with the guys from Break Anchor until the wee hours of the morning. Who's your Booking Agent? What label are you guys on? they asked us, and once we stopped laughing we said none! LOL Yeah, that Jason dude knew all sorts of stuff about Vegas back in the day, throwing out loving comments about old gigs played at the Caves and the Tubes like they were treasured memories we all shared, and when he started mentioning the old school Vegas skate crew members, Bob lost his collective mind... hahaha Break Anchor are a pretty good band. I knew nothing about them before the gig and came away from it really digging them. Heavy Fifteen / Wynona Ryders vibe, which is always welcome in my musical world. They played a really impressive set, chock full of Pop Punk goodness, and they even threw in an anti-Green Day song just for extra Punk Rock points! ;-) They played great and I dug 'em. After they were done I bought all the merch they had, including a killer white vinyl 7" that will fit nicely in my colored vinyl collection. Fun night. As always, Thanx to Bob for being the worst Roadie ever, and to Zack for the write up, and to the guys in Bloody Ale and everyone else for all the kind words and cool vibes. No better way to spend a Sunday. I dunno how I got the dates for that T.S.O.L. / Reverend Horton Heat gig mixed up, but I did. Phooey. $35 a pop though... I dunno... that's pretty steep, isn't it? Meh. I would of paid it anyways. Bar 702 is closing. Enjoy it being open while you can. I posted up some Pictures that I took while hanging outside the Dive after I got kicked out of the Voodoo Glow Skulls gig last weekend... hahaha I called the photo set the Old Guy Skate Sesh and you can click here to check them out. If I would of been one of the cool old skate guys I could of made it out to Dave Delunatic's B-Day bash / skate sesh to take pictures of that old guy skate around. Despite Bob's best efforts, he could not convince Dean to do an American Buckshot reunion for his birthday party. Gotta give him an 'A' for effort though, right? But of course. I heard Fuzz So Low killed it. :-) The Loud Pipes are playing Rawkmom's Gutterball Bash #6 on Sat. May 24th at the Double Clown. Click here for the Facebook event page. Yeah, I know it says Crazy Chief on the flyer, but Roxie was drunk @ SXSW when she agreed to the gig, and just recently realized that Crazy Chief was not a good fit for that bill. Well DUH! hahaha If we do our math like other bands here in town, The Loud Pipes will be celebrating our 38th year anniversary as a band, so come out and see us play again before one of us ends up in the grave or in prison... LOL There are some cool bands on that flyer though. Should be a fun night, that's for sure. Everything is updated. Lots and lots of stuff going on these upcoming days, so check out the Gig Calendar page to see what's going on. I had to alter the color scheme on the website a bit, because SOMEONE brought it to my attention that the Gig Calendar page wasn't readable on Internet Explorer, which is... weird? Oh well. My band The Civilians will be playing this Sun. @ the Dive with Break Anchor, a band that Jeremy was all a twitter about playing with, and Rule Of Thumb and Bloody Ale, so if you got nothing better to do this Sun., and it doesn't interfere with your Walking Dead obsession, then come out and have some fun before you gotta get back to work on time on Monday morning. Life's a bitch and then you die. Suck it up and deal with it. I gotta get back to mixing band practices and editing those Voodoo Glow Skulls photos I took. Or commenting with Mark Slaughter on the last post about how much I suck... hahahaha |
