I really had nothing to say, mostly because the whole past 4 or 5 days have blurred one into the other. I mean, Casey & Eddie's wedding on Sat. was beautiful, and the gig afterwords @ Yayo Taco was fun as fuck, and with the swimming and partying @ Casa Amoroso for the past few days, well, I've just been a wreck as of late. So as I was awoken yesterday afternoon by the annoying ringing and buzzing of my cell phone, alerting me to numerous text messages and phone calls, I knew something was amiss, and people were dying to tell me about it or find out what I think about it. The it in question was the announcement that the Divebar was closing immediately. Fuck.
I never really had a problem with the Divebar, per se. Lots of people had personal beefs with the place, but I wasn't one of them. I used to go there all the time when it first opened because it was a Sharks bar, and I'd go there to watch the games on the TV, with like 5 other San Jose fans. It was great. They never ripped me off either. Bands were notorious in calling for a boycott of the place, putting the word out that the checks the Divebar paid with were no good, and that's even if they paid the bands that played there to begin with. Never happened to me though. None of my friends got beat up there either, but I know a few of my friends friends did, a couple of times even! LOL I've had a few close calls, but I wasn't stupid enough to let it happen. I've had some amazing times there, seen some Legendary gigs there, played there in a whole bunch of different bands and never had a problem with the place until those assholes who owned it / run it started letting the Nazi's and the chickenshit Cockasillys hang out there and flourish that I stopped going there. Same reason why I stopped going to the Double Down. Sort of. ;-) Yeah, once that tuff guy faggotry took over the place a lot of people abandoned it, and it was pretty much a joke amongst the majority of the Bands here in Vegas. Too many Fights, too much Drama, too many Bands getting ripped off waaaaaaayyy too often. The Divebar had a really bad rep there for awhile. Too little too late they tried to make amends to the Scene, putting the word out that all that Drama was behind them but the damage was beyond repair and I guess the Divebar just gave up on things. All I heard was that the Divebar was closing, but no one actually said why. And I could care less. Big whoop. Good riddance says I, but to see some of my Friends carrying on about it's closing was pathetic. You would of thought their parents had died or that their dog had to be put down. "That is horrible." "This is a major bummer." "I cannot believe this shit." "OMG! Please God No!! Say it ain't so." Fucking really? It was just a bar, and a shitty one at that. If everyone who loved that place sooooooooo much would of went there instead of someplace else to drink, then maybe the place would of survived but who even knows about that. Maybe the Divebar didn't close because of financial reasons, I really can't say. The bartenders were atrocious there too. It would take you hours to get a drink there when the place was jumping, unless you had Tres Flores in your hair or a bunch of shitty 50's flash work all over your body. Yeah, I've had some amazing times at the Divebar, but who cares? Faux sentimentality for some place that's going to reopen in a few months under a new name and hopefully new management just leaves me feeling ill. Phooey. It's kind of sad that looking back on the place, the stuff that immediately comes to mind for me is the Negative, and not the Positive. Everything is updated. New Pictures have been added. Unfair Fight is playing at Diablo's this Thursday, and you should all be there to support one of the Best bands playing in Las Vegas right now. You gotta be on the Guest List though, so contact the band here at their Facebook page to get put on there. These guys are the shit and you're guaranteed to enjoy it. Plus, Diablo's is a pretty cool place to hang out at and see bands at. I'm gonna be there, and so should you. :-) See ya there!
