Written by GE 138. The problem with Hype is that sometimes you just really wanna believe it, ya know? You just keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best, hope that it's true, whatever. All the Hype on this new Ace Frehley release was pretty much saying that this Space Invader release was 'the best thing he's done since Side 4 of Kiss Alive II', and you read that online somewhere and you go 'Wow! Could it be?', and then you hope for the best, because again, you wanna believe, because that album, and THOSE songs, meant soooo much to you growing up, and get the new album as soon as it comes out, because Rocket Ride is one of your favorite all time songs ever, and if there's anything even close to sounding like that song on here, then it's a winner, no matter how much you paid for it, and you take it out of it's child proof case and slap it into your CD player in the car and you hit 'Play' and the first song, Space Invader, comes on, and your just kind of... underwhelmed. Yeah, that's pretty much my first impression of this CD when I heard it. Phooey. Sounds like Frehley's Comet shit, which, if you weren't around in the 80's, was Ace Frehley's solo band / project that was just a Sunset Strip poofy haired mediocre musical mess. Click here to see what I mean. They were on Megaforce Records, which was... odd. Anyways, I tried skipping over songs on here with weak beginnings, searching for that one elusive kick ass song, and my search came up fruitless. Seems like every song on here is just an excuse for Mr. Frehley to solo over a glorified cock rocking mess of a tune, which isn't THAT bad of a thing, but again, based on the hype, I was expecting more. A LOT more. Oh well. At least Ace sounds great on here. His fret work is beyond fantastic, and the feel he has for sounds and movement and feel in his playing is phenominal. It's easy to see why he's been such a huge influence on countless generations of guitar pickers and noodlers all around the world. I'm not even a guitar player and I will say without hesitation that Ace Frehley is one of my favorite guitar players EVER, and yeah, I know he's no fucking Kerry King, but whatever, I like him, but this release could of been a bit better. MUCH better. That song about Vegas, Toys, with it's Take me to Vegas / I wanna have fun / I wanna shoot craps / I wanna play cards / Stay up late / So bizarre lyrics is just the worst... LOL Not that Ace has ever been known for his lyrical prowess, but still... ha ha ha Oh, and that cover of the Steve Miller Band's The Joker on here?? Weak. As. Fuck. Who thought that was a good idea? Seriously? LOL Oh Ace, I love you, but I think you could of done a bit better with this CD. Better luck next time, oh Rock God Guitar Idol of mine. Available on iTunes, with a few exclusive songs available on it, by clicking here. The album was put out by eOne Music, and you can click here to buy the release from them. It's also available through Amazon, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Zia, and anyplace else that music is sold as the commodity that it is. "Like" Ace Frehley on Facebook by clicking here.

Ace should have passed on the Steve Miller song and played a Rolling Stones cover instead, He covered '2000 Man', when KISS played unplugged. He plays it well. You can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC9xjboGmsk

It just occurred to me that KISS covered '2000 Man' on Dynasty. Covering it again could be viewed as counterproductive.
