Written by GE 138. Here's an excellent 4 song EP release from a band called The Moms, a 3 piece Pop Punk band from straight outta N.J. Mid-paced songs with impassioned vocals and jingle-jangle guitar work that harkens back to the classic Jersey Shore sound, with influences ranging from everyone to Bruce Springsteen and the Smithereens to newer bands like Against Me!, The Movie Life and The Mezingers. This band reminds me of The Ataris a lot for some reason, but that's not a bad thing. The Replacements too, the more that I listen to this. Simple Rock and Roll played with conviction by kids who still believe in the Power of Music. The songs aren't exactly Punk, aren't exactly Pop, but what they are is good, and I dig them all. The drumming is tasty, the rhythm section solid and groovy, and the vocals are what make this release a keeper. It sounds like the singer is a whiskey drinking, 2 packs a day kind of guy, and his vocal delivery on songs like Viva! and Arrest Me are top notch. Love the lyrics on Viva! too - Say what you will / Will what you say / Because God knows we're all being recorded these days. Cool stuff. Like I said, I dig these guys and think you should check them out and see if you do too. For a debut release this is pretty impressive. I can't wait to hear what their next release is going to sound like. This EP from The Moms is available from the bands Band Camp page (themoms.bandcamp.com) or by clicking here. Check it out and see what you think. :-)
