March 18, 2011: Barrington Levy / Haleamano / The Remedies / Lady Reiko & The Sin City Prophets @ The Bunkhouse
I was driving down 11th street heading towards the Bunkhouse when I realized I had forgot my wallet back at my house. Instead of being there early, I was now going to be late. Phooey. I wanted to get there early to get something to eat and to check out Lady Reiko & The Sin City Prophets, because I had heard some good things about them, and they were always nice enough to keep me in the loop as far as when they were playing gigs and whatnot. After grabbing my wallet up off the floor of my bedroom where I had left it, I jumped back in my car and raced downtown to try to get there early to secure a good spot in what I assumed was going to be a packed house full of Reggae fans and Rastafarians from both near and far. I could not have been more wrong if I tried. The place was near empty. There was no one here. You would of thought it was another Thursday night gig from what the turnout of parked cars looked like. This did not look good, but it was kind of early. I mean, I got there in time to catch the beginning of Lady Reiko & The Sin City Prophets, so that was a plus.

Lady Reiko & The Sin City Prophets are a mainstay of the Local Reggae scene here in Vegas. They used to bug me a lot about coming out to see one of their gigs, but I never did, unfortunately. After getting myself an armful of drinks I settled in and checked out the band and really, really liked what I was hearing. They were really rock solid, hitting the notes and grooves that make Reggae music so damn addicting without the least bit of effort on their part, letting it all flow out of them naturally, like you're supposed to, like how it's been done.
The Remedies were up next, and I went into hibernation mode. I was just bored to tears and falling asleep while they squeaked and squirmed their way through a boring ass set. I wanted to cry. They couldn't get off the stage fast enough for me. Phooey.
After being woken up by N.J. Pete towards the end of the Remedies snooze fest, I got ready to watch Haleamano, a band I'm really, really starting to like. These guys have an easily apparent Love for the music they play, which is some really catchy Reggae infused happiness sounds. They incorporate all the little sub-genres of Reggae music, Dancehall, Dub, Ska, whatever, and make it all their own, utilizing the talents of everyone in the band to their fullest potential. Each one of these guys is fantastic at what they do, whether it's the rock steady bass player, the crunchy up stroking guitarist,
