Written by Colin Oscopy. Photos by Amyxcarla for the Hardcore Collective. ![]() So I roll into Ventura, Thanks to Joni and Double J, on Friday. We quickly meet up with Michelle and Jeremy Nardcore to head to a benefit show to support the wife of the lead singer for The Missing 23rd. All the bands that played were fucking amazing. The last band to play were The Fucking Wrath. Let me tell ya, these guys blew the roof off the mother fucker with their set. My hat goes off to them. After that we head back to Jeremy and Michelle's for McDeathburger and beers. I myself indulged in the beers and percocets but didn't get way outta hand like I did the last time I was in Ventura!!! aahhaha ![]() Anyhoo, we wake up and roll to the Majestic Ventura Theater just in time to catch the film Clean Cut American Kids - The Story of Ill Repute. It was a really good film that told the story of Ill Repute and their influence on the people and bands in the Nardcore scene. After that The Rotters played. If you don't know who they are, they were one of the first bands in the Nardcore scene. They played such a rippin' set. After that I gallivant and do a couple Interviews and take pics with some of the bands and people in the crowd. ![]() Up next were Agression featuring Big Bob. They started the set with Cat Killer and ripped into the classics one after another. They ripped through the set. Big Bob came out and did songs like Dear John Letter, Salty Leather, Money Machine, and others, and he said a few words to the youth in the crowd. It was amazing. The Missing 23rd and The Grim played fucking BLAZING sets. Bodies were flying, kids were slamming - HARD. Good shit. Ill Repute hit the stage next and tore it up, starting the set with none other than Oxnard and rippin' into Look At Me and other classics off of their Oxnard - Land Of No Toilets and What Happens Next releases. ![]() False Confession were up next and played everything off the Left To Burn 7" and also some of their 1983 demos. I was given a copy of the False Confession LP which contained their '83 demos (thank you Izzy). Also, lead guitarist Freddy Matatquin, who also played lead guitars with Dr.Know on Plug In Jesus, played during F.C.'s set which fuckin blew me away. They totally ripped. Then Stäläg 13 hit the stage and they played all the classics and some gems. During their set I had a little run in with somebody, and that took up 20 minutes from me catching the whole Stäläg 13 set ahahahaha ![]() After I return Dr.Know hit the set and after about 6 -7, roughly, Jack and Cokes, I'm feeling loose as a mother fucking goose and I head towards the pit. I slam for a couple songs, like my favorite Life Returns, and Mastermind, with my broken arm and all. After that I watch their set from the side and just stare at the pit in amazement. A giant tornado of slamming bodies Young and Old, rejoicing to the sounds of classic Oxnard Punk Rock. It was beautiful. Enlightening. Inspiring. After the gig I wait outside and get the rest of my stuff signed and finish Interviews and take Pictures and then head out. My time spent in Ventura catching this show, meeting the people I met, was one of the greatest experiences in my Life, and I'd like to thank Joni, Jackson, Michelle, and Jeremy Nardcore for putting up with me and giving me a spot to lay my head for the night, and I'd also like to Thank all of Ill Repute and original drummer Carl Valdez for doing Interviews and taking pics, Izzy and Freddy of False Confession for the record and pics, and Mike Purdy, Tim Harkins, Kyle Toucher, and Larz White (thanks for the record!!) for taking pics and signing my records.
