by GE 138 Man... it was very surprising to see who came out to this show and who didn't. Whenever there are a ton of bimbos in one place, it can never be a good thing. LOL At least they were all at Skate City to see the opening band Pendleton, who played a kinda good set of some screaming Emo core with odd timings and unusual stop / starts. The music was good but the screaming was pretty harsh, and made me leave the room holding my ears. Sounded like a hamster getting raped. Sounded much better from the outside though. 200 Scene points for Hank... Katy... Bobby... Marco... Rick... Donnie... all for making the effort to see the show, and 500 more for being that damn cool! At least Bobby didn’t have to hold up my drum set like he did the last show at the Java Joint! LOL After Pendleton, Bide was up next, and I don’t remember much about them, except that I liked them. Reminded me of someone good, but I can’t remember who...hmmmmm. Bullet Train To Vegas were up next and just shredded through a set of fucking great Noise / Pop / Punk Rock that had me standing there in amazement! How can a band be so great? Pitt asked me, and I couldn't answer him. And I still don’t have the answers. I don’t know fuck all about this band, except that they are really really really good and put on a Hell of an intense show. Despite the fact that the bass player was borrowing someone else's bass rig, Bullet Train To Vegas just totally rocked and I wish I didn’t have to miss most of their set to set up my drum kit dammit! While setting up my kit it was funny when Pitt took out Bryan by sliding down the load in ramp and knocking him over though. I’m sure the video Bryan was shooting of Bullet Train To Vegas looks great because of it. ;-) All the girls with the cool cars their parents bought for them left after Pendleton played, and by the time we got up to play a lot more people had left too, but we still ripped through a great set. Lots of fun. Jesse didn’t seem to think so, but he's a Musician, so what are you going to do, ya know? Me and Bryan both loved the fact that the people that were there last night had never seen us before... and they seemed to like us... which is just a few more steps in The Loud Pipes quest for world domination, Pinky! Heh heh heh Good gig.

Written by GE 138. What a great way to spend the Holiday... getting wasted in the park with your Friends and playing with some really nice bands... not good bands, but nice bands. We got there kinda early to partake of all the free food and drinks waiting for us in our backstage tent area, and ran into Hank and his brother... Brett... Brittany... Katy... all the usual suspects! Didn't catch the name of the first band, and was too busy adjusting to my new surroundings to notice what they sounded like... sorry. By Death's Design got things started with an alright set of some quasi Emo / Metal songs that didn't seem to really go anywhere, but maybe it was just me though. I ran into Patrick (Pulsar) in the crowd, and he was telling me and Hank (fresh from Portland!) about his trip to Atlanta for some debate finals he was in for school, and about the girl with pink hair that he likes... awwwwwww!! We (The Loud Pipes) were up next, like an hour before we were supposed to be playing, and quickly got up on stage and fucked shit up... literally! ha ha ha The drum set they gave me to use was a piece of shit that didn't hold up to the beating I was giving it, and broke down halfway through the first song. Booooooooo. There were a lot of kids that braved the heat to see us play, and for that I'm eternally grateful, and when they started circle pitting while we were playing, and the fact that Ch. 13 News broadcast a little bit of us playing our set, well Wowsers, it makes all the bullshit worth it, ya know? It wasn't even that hot really (not for Vegas anyways), but once we started playing, I knew we were gonna be in trouble. We came out firing hard and fast, but the heat wore us out quickly. By the last song we were drained and melted, but people liked us, and we sold ALL of our merch! Woo Hoo! Although, to be honest, I think Roxie drank most of the profits by the end of the night! LOL The Happy Campers had the tent next to ours and they had a wading pool in there and tons of beer on ice. Very cool guys to let Roxie lounge around in her bikini and drink all of their beers... heh heh. I have no idea of who played after us or in what order, but I will tell you this... they all sounded the same. Boring... Bland... Predictable. I wish I took the time to get to know their band names, so I could slag them off one by one personally, but they were all so equally crappy I didn't even bother. And that one band that kept thanking X-treme Radio... what ass kissers. They're not gonna play your shitty music dude, no matter how nice you are to them. And that was weird too... every band that played on the bill was super nice... easy to talk to... get along with... but just music wise, I thought they all sucked! LOL I did pay attention to Over It... just wasn't impressed. Watched the Happy Campers play... and every girl I've ever seen in a mall here in town was out to see them. And I felt sorry for the guy in the black bear suit that was dancing on stage with them to their very Lagwagon / Millencollin influenced music. It was also funny watching people backstage make fun of their poppy Punk music while they were on stage. Nice. Like the people in the band Ozma... super nice people, but man, their music SUCKED! I couldn’t believe that the Goth looking chick was playing keyboards... man. The only way I could describe their music is to say that it’s something that Bryan probably listens to...heh heh. Once it started cooling down, I knew it was Stop! Hammer time! so, I left the backstage activity and rushed over to the other stage to catch MC Hammer in all his glory, but man, was I disappointed! No baggy pants... no screwy glasses... nothing! He looked like every other rapper you see on MTV or BET, and he didn’t even play any of the hits, at least as long as I was there!! All his dancers looked like rejects from a Nelly video, but I was having fun watching the drunks in the crowd dancing to the MC Hammer groove, so that was cool. I left like midway through the set, which sounded like mostly stuff from his new album, but I did see Keil & Joie and Spencer and his lovely date smiling at the MC Hammer thing. They all agreed that MC Hammer needed some new moves though... lol. Wandered back to the X-treme stage to catch the tail end of the Yellowcard set... and the only thing that differentiated them from all the other mediocre bands that played before them was that they had a violin player... other than that... big deal. They sucked. The Drummer was a cool guy though. And a lot of people seemed to know the words to their songs, so yeah. After Yellowcard's set the fireworks show began, and apparently so did the fights between the Skaters and the BMX’ers... about 300 of them! The fight completely fucked up the Sub Skates booth, and the tension carried over into The Vandals set, who only seemed to care about getting big titty fat white girls with cut off wife beaters and beer guts on the stage to dance for them. Saw Katy up front taking pictures of The Vandals, but I thought to myself... why? I've dealt with them personally in the past and knew they were assholes back then, and from what I saw tonight, they still are. What a joke. At about 10:30 the plug was pulled on The Vandals and the show was over. Booooo. Those of you that saw the utter BULLSHIT that happened when the Metro Pigs came goosestepping in with their mace cans drawn know how fucked up it was afterwards. The people that got arrested were the ones doing nothing, but the cops didn’t care... all just a body count to them... fuckwads.
Written by GE 138. I'm not really sure how you have a CD release party, especially since there's no CD released, but since (I believe) that the hold up is The Loud Pipes fault, I will say no more on the subject... heh heh Anyways... The Java Joint! Definitely the best smoothies in town! I had so many I was full for days afterwards! The Shaws got things going with an OK set of badly played Punk Rock that had lots of their friends goofing around with them while they played. I was too busy drinking the first of many smoothies to really pay attention to them, sorry. I do know that they played waaaayy too long though. Absent Minded are the band that really got the show started with an great sounding set of Punk Rock music that had the kids bobbing their heads and singing along to what Brendan was shouting out to them. Their drummer Adam was really good, even if he was a trying a bit too hard to put on a show, shaking his Bo Derek beaded hair around and all. But still, an awesome set from Absent Minded, who are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands here in town, and they're all a bunch of nice guys too! Stuck Naked set up quickly and started rocking the Java Joint with their NOFX / Sublime party music, and the bass player reminded me of the guy from NFG when he took his shirt off... and that's not a good thing! Playing bass and having large breasts only works for us... sorry! lol We quickly set up before curfew kicked in and played an intense set of Loud Pipes Rock N Roll! We had the kids screaming along to Insurrection... raising their fists and pumping them in the air for Wild Nights... damn mosh pit broke out during The Way... how I don't know, cuz the Java Joint is so small. Bryan knocked my entire kit down jumping up on top of it like a man possessed and knocking all my cymbals over in the process, and if it wasn't for Bobby Franks saving the day and holding my set up while Bryan was jumping on top of it, I don’t know what I was gonna do. But once he got it out of his system, it was an awesome set. Pitt and Roxie hit instruments mid-air and knocked each other out of tune... Jesse broke strings... nice chaotic set! And smoothies were waiting for us right when we were done! What more could you ask for? We took pictures, signed autographs... sold a lot of merch... great way to end a great show! Cheers to Dirty Records for a great night of Punk Rock! Woo Hoo! Can't wait to do it again when the CD actually comes out! by GE 138 Yup! Another beautiful lobby show, brought to you by Tim and Tom and Kim and the rest of the good people at the Huntridge Theater. Waaaaaay too early of a time for this gig to start, but at least they had the air conditioner flowing on the inside, and it didn’t smell like ass in there. Sort of. I got there early and hung out with Damnation... went shopping at Savers... you know, the usual pre-gig stuff. Watched as Bryan used the Huntridge as his own personal skating spot, and as Jesse threw things at him... nice.
The Vague started the day off with a set of songs that sounded just like The Used, but with a good drummer, but still crappy like the Used. Oh well. The Arcade Heroes were up next and played a good set of poppy Punk tunes which sounded just like Scared Of Chaka - it was great!! They were really cool kids and so young that I couldn’t help but like them. Great stuff from the Arcade Heroes. Excellent. Bloodjunkies were up next, and this was advertised as their CD Release show, but they didn't seem to have anyone in attendance into their spooky countrified mood music. Basically, Bloodjunkies are Damnation playing with two crazy Mexican brothers, one looking like Axl Rose and admitting to me and Pitt that he LOVED the new Metallica CD (WTF??) on keyboards and the other one banging away on some congas, plus a Rockabilly kid playing a hollow body guitar with lots of tremolo on it! The sound of complete silence after they finished their first song was awkward and embarrassing. I left... wasn't my cup of tea. Damnation was up next and ripped through a set of Punk Rock and Roll that had a few people moving and shaking, but not many. Poizen Ivy from Sin City Sounds really dug them though. I saw her taking pictures of Shawn... go figure. Shawn has always been a great front man, but I don’t think today was Damnation's day. 2 sets one right after the other is never a good thing. Better luck next time guys. The Loud Pipes were up next and we tried to destroy everyone in the place with a fast and furious set, and I think we succeeded! Kids were singing along... slamming along... and having fun!! It was a blast!! During the beginning of Rock And Roll Nitemare Pitt held up the latest issue of the City Life featuring Roxie on the cover, but I don't think anyone noticed or cared. Whatever. We blew the roof off the joint. Damnation saw the crowd going nuts for us and they packed up and left quickly after their set... booooooo! Guess they were in a rush to get to the Double Down! God knows why though... The Dirty Babies followed us with a great set of fucking pure Punk Rock songs that started off with them playing Up All Night 7 times in a row! Me and Pitt and Jesse were just laughing our asses off, as Jaime would call out a song title, like Bitch Reaction, or County Jail, and no matter what it was, they would play Up All Night... lol. The song was stuck in my head for hours afterwards, dammit! I was laughing so much that I had to leave and head outside to the merch table, where Roxie was holding court with a bunch of Punk Rock kids. The coolest one was like 10 years old and wearing a red Clash t shirt. I finally caught my breath and I walked back inside to watch The Dirty Babies finish their set to a half empty room of Punk kids going crazy while the band played. The crowd of kids really dug the Dirty Babies, and they even played a Pagans cover to end things. How sick is that? Great show! |
