Is this the right record? Is this really the new Unfair Fight LP called False Walls? I check the beautiful white vinyl spinning on my turntable and yeah, this is the new album from this seminal band of Las Vegas music scene veteranos. Opening song Hajime (The End Depends On The Beginning) is a moody, mystical chant of sorts, sounding like something the Deftones would do in their most stoned state of mind, but then the next track, Embracing Terror, brings the ol' familiar Unfair Fight sound I know and love back to my ears, a sound full of snarling guitar riffs, menacing shouted out lyrics and pummelling drum beats galore to power it all forward. The record sounds fantastic. Recorded by Paul Miner at Buzzbomb Studios, the new album just grabs you by throat without mercy and screams in your face with a passion and a sense of urgency that's unmatched by any band in any scene today. The album has a, dare I say it, Emo feel to it. I think it's because of the lyrics to the songs that are printed on the inner gatefold of the album. It's cool that the band did it that way, because it kind of forces you to read the lyrics while you listen to the music, sort of like a companion to the album, and it totally enhances the listening experience but man, reading some of these lyrics are truly disturbing!! LOL Who knew such insanity and mind fuckery was going on in Dan's head? ha ha ha His musings and views make me wanna give him a big ol' hug the next time I see him! His lyrics / poetry are frightening and intoxicating. Putting your Heart and Soul on display like that is the bravest thing one can do, and it's truly beautiful and scary to read and hear. Mongo in awe. ;) It's hard to keep up with who's in Unfair Fight lately. There's 2 guys in the band that I don't think I've even seen play with the band yet, but their musical contributions from what I can hear are minimal. The nucleus members of Dan on vocals, the amazing Mr. Pete on drums, and the guy nobody cares about Chris on guitars, are the heart, action, and mind that powers the Unfair Fight machine. Every fucking album Pete comes up with some drum lines that just have me saying 'Oh HELL no! He did NOT just do that!' or just have my jaw hitting the floor with their intricacy and fluidity and hard hitting fury. Chris' guitar work is second to none. I'm not even a guitar guy and I know that. Downpicking with lightning quick dexterity, chugging out hard hitting riffs that would make Malcom Young proud, as well as adding vocals / screams all throughout the music, he's like the triple threat baseball player I can't reference because I don't know the sport. I think I say this with every Unfair Fight release but this album really is too short. The 12 songs on here go by waaaaaaayyy too fast, and I'm not sure, but I think one of them is a rehash of some earlier song. Isn't Inferior Future just In A Room Full Of Lunatics retitled? Doesn't matter really, and I'm probably the only one who will know or care. Still sounds killer, I was just asking. Along with Perverse Revolutions, Lucid Transformations, Lethargic Metamorphosis, Maladjusted Behavior, I mean Hell, every song on here is a standout track - there really isn't a bad song on this album, and that's always been a quality of Unfair Fight that I have loved since the beginning of the band. They're as real as it gets, sometimes real comfortable, sometimes real scary, but always, always, real. This is a life affirming release from Unfair Fight here. It simply doesn't get any better than this. ❤❤❤ Available from the band at every single gig they play. Limited copies available on beautiful white vinyl (the sticker on the shrink wrap says 250, the album says 200), and available digitally at the Unfair Fight Bandcamp page, which you can go to by clicking here. Also available on iTunes (click here), Spotify (click here), Amazon (click here), and some Russian malware bootleg site (click here)... heh
