Written by GE 138. Finally! After being talked about for years on end, and making the rounds on the Indie film circuit for a while now, this long awaited documentary about one of the most seminal bands to ever grace the Punk Rock scene, the Descendents, is finally seeing the light of day and made available publicly, and I have got to say that it was worth the wait and worth every penny you're gonna pay to see this, and trust me, you WILL want to see this. This film is amazing and one of the best films about a band I've ever seen. The story of the Descendents is the stuff of Legend, what with the revolving door of band members, the whole Milo leaving/rejoining/leaving/rejoining the band, the story of the ALL thing that resulted from the Descendents initial breakup, and just every little nuance of the band that you could think of, every angle you could want to discuss / know about the band, is addressed and brought up in this movie, all backed up with plenty of killer archival footage and interviews with some of the people who were actually there during the bands conception, and interviews with some people just seem to be in the movie because they're just sycophantic narcissists who feel they have to comment on everything going on musically in the world (Dave Grohl), or they're just the condescending boring ol' curmudgeon know-it-all that has to remind anyone that will listen to his burned out ass that he was there "back in the days" (Keith Morris). Other people they talk to in here will just have you scratching your head repeatedly and wondering why they were included in this thing. Mark Hoppus? Joey Cape? Tim Mcllrath? Mike Herrera? Really? Fuck off with those clueless hacks. The demos featured in here are amazing (listen for them playing in the background) and some of the video stuff on here is mind blowing. I mean, where did that pro shot video for Kids come from??? Holy shit is that great! So are the cartoon illustrations of some of the interview segments. Good call on that one, because the interview segments are mesmerizing and informative, filled with amusing, heart breaking stories of both the good times and bad times of being on the road, drinking coffee, recording, dealing with band stuff, blah blah blah. There's never a dull moment in this film, and by the time the end credits get to rolling around, you'll stand up on your feet and applaud until your hands bleed, and if you have any semblance of a heart, you'll probably wipe a tear or two from your eye, because once you see the trials and tribulations that the Descendents have gone through, it just makes the fact that the band is still around and performing today all that more incredible and nothing to be taken for granted. Packed with loads of extra stuff, like the Bonus Cut stuff, which is comprised of more of the Interview footage from everyone, and a few interviews that didn't make it into the movie, like the chat with Legendary photographer Glen E. Friedman about how he once tried out to be the singer of the band, and segments like The Lombardo Short, and The Stevenson Monologues, which are 10 minute video vignettes about the eccentric Descendents founding members, and a way too short pro shot live clip filmed in San Francisco, this essential collection called Filmage, is one of the best band documentaries ever made, about one of the best bands ever to be. <3 Available of any and all formats on the Filmage website, which you can go to by clicking here. Written by Colin Oscopy. This 2012 release, Go Home!, by Hank Wood And The Hammerheads, is a straight ripper. This is some slammin' shit right here. I first heard these guys along with Dawn Of Humans, The Men, Nude Beach, and more on the New York Rules comp, and was immediately drawn into this jangly, guitar driven, incoherent, loud hootin' and a hollerin', murky ass recorded Punk Rock. This ain't that stupid ass "thug" shit, this is real deal Punk Rock shit. PICK THIS UP !!!!! Originally released by Toxic State Records, this seminal release, along with any other Hank Wood And The Hammerheads release, should be sought out immediately. Their latest release, Stay Home!, is available for absolutely FREE just by clicking here. You're welcome. :-) |
