Written by GE 138. I hit the bottle when I don't really feel like killing someone else... now that's a lyric I can get into. Pretty good stuff from The Unwanted Guests - lots of time changes and Punk Rock energy help make this fast paced obnoxious music a nice listen. Reminds me a lot of Guttermouth or NOFX, especially in the lyrics department. Borderline retarded musings on drinking, fighting, fucking and rich kids had me chuckling throughout this disc. The guitars have a bit of a crunchy, metal edge to them and the musicianship on this CD is above average. These guys can definitely play their instruments, and the singer at times reminded me of "Weird Al" Yankovic, if ya can believe that. If all this sounds good to you then check out The Unwanted Guests, and keep an eye out for their new album. Available on The Unwanted Guests website for $7 by clicking here. Written by GE 138. Hmmm... how can I delicately put this? Good recording of a mediocre band? Excellent recording of some generic Punk Rock? Yeah, I like that last one. Poison Ivy said that she liked this band, but I'm having a hard time figuring out why. Re-hashed un-original O.C. drunk Punk that did absolutely nothing for me. Now don't get me wrong... I love stupid brainless Punk Rock, but these guys are weak at best. How they got a record deal is beyond me, since I've seen their live show and now I've heard their record. Sure, a few songs on here are OK (The Fishing Song, Strange Boy, Get Along) but the rest just stink. I'm sure that all the bro dogs that live in Westminster and Fountain Valley and still dress up like Anthrax did in 1987 (band shirts and stupid looking shorts with skate shoes) love these guys but me... I don't see what the fuss is about. Maybe with time they'll get better or maybe they'll break up. Either or I'm cool with. The Dimwits. I'll pass. Written by GE 138. I love compilations. It's a chance to check out some new bands you've never heard stuff from (Demons, The Pattern) and to also get some obscure tracks from bands that you love to death, like The Dragons, New Bomb Turks, and The Hives. I mean, anyone who doesn't know what type of music Gearhead Records is known for is really missing out, because they put out some of the best Punk Rock and Roll music that's available today. The majority of the music on here is straight up no frills working man's Punk Rock, full of bottom end and plenty of 70's riffs to satisfy the most ardent of guitar dweebs out there. A lot of this stuff reminded me of Foghat or Thin Lizzy and of, course, Iggy And The Stooges. Gearhead Records has built up a top notch stable of house bands, and this compilation is a great place to start looking into what the label has to offer. I just saw this band in front of their home town crowd in Philadelphia and I gotta tell ya that they were really good. Real hard sounding Punk Rock that reminded me of Negative Approach or even early G.B.H.. They played this album in it's entirety and it sounded really good live, but it sounds even better recorded. Growled out vocals with nasty guitar riffs all being paced by a nice and tight rhythm section. These songs will get stuck in your head, especially if you read the great lyrics to these songs. Shutdown (about greedy record labels), You Are The Fool (about scene rumors), It's Not Right (about Matthew Sheppard) are all kick ass tunes. This band has something to say and you should listen.
