I saw these guys Reliance play at the Navajo Nation Outreach Festival that Headnoise played on the Navajo Indian Reservation a while ago. They stood out in the lineup of Rappers and other Alternative bands that played that day by doing an Operation Ivy cover, which went along well with their Fat Wreck Chords melodic Pop Punk sound. They were pretty good, and I made sure to grab one of the free CD's they had lying around all over the place and threw it into my purse and pretty much forgot about it. Once I gave this 6 song EP a listen I was impressed with how good the vocals were, very strong and passionate, with lots of gang screamed backup vocals ala 7 Seconds and bands of that ilk. Music was a bit Metal-y in some parts but it still sounds good, and overall the band reminds me of Good Riddance and ALL in a big way. Not that that's a bad thing right? 😎 These motherfuckers can play. This release is very well produced. It sounds great. It's very melodic, just dancing near the edge of being Emo, and it's full of riffs and melodies galore. Standout tracks on here include Not This Time, Reborn, and Once Blind. This is a rerelease of some sorts, as it was previously put out on Raven Faith Records, and it was now being re-released on Thumper Punk Records, which is the home of A Broken Line and the almighty Until We Die!. Sweeeeet. I don't know what's in the future from Reliance but hopefully it's something good. The scene could use a lot more bands that sound like this than the current crop of sycophantic new bands living for the fumes coming out of the old Punx assholes. Released by Thumper Punk Records. Available digitally from the band by clicking here, and also available on iTunes (click here). "Like" Reliance on Facebook by clicking here.
