The press release that accompanies this fantastic release is pretentious hyperbole, like most press releases are, and is best to be avoided. I don't need it to review these girls anyways. ;-) Yes, picking up right where they left off 6 years ago with their 12 Months Of Trash release, Vegas' very own Dirty Panties have put together a superb collection of poppy, hard rocking Punk tunes that will have you bopping your head and tapping your toes to the infectious beats they're throwing down. The record sounds killer - guitars are crisp and loud, drums sound fantastic, the bass is kicking and the vocals sound excellent. The new singer is amazingly good. I'm a little put off by the fact that they included an absolutely horrible cover version of Money (That's What I Want) on here, as well as a re-re-re-recording of their Pretty In Pink song, which they keep re-doing for some reason, but whatever. At least this time they got it right. Those 2 songs, plus a couple of other clunkers, do not deter in one bit from the strength of everything else on this CD. I would of just liked to have heard more of the new, rocking stuff than a cover and an unnecessary rehash, but that's just me. Standout tracks on here include Get Off Your Ass, Confighted, the title track, InTentCity and my favorite track on here, of course, Cheers. :-) The Dirty Panties do a commendable job with their sophomore release, and I can only hope it doesn't take them another 6 years to produce just as good a follow up to this great set of songs. Wow. This is some seriously game changing shit here. Local malcontents The Fat Dukes Of Fuck have unleashed a 9 song accumulation of some of the most disturbing cacophonous sounds ever encoded to disc. Like a giant Metallic spider web, the Fat Dukes Of Fuck's music is an amalgamation of nightmarish screams that are intertwined with computer enhanced double kick drum fills, thick ass bass rumblings, and with the words and lyrical concepts all falling on the strangely interesting side of things to say the least, and it's all being structured by some insanely fat guitar riffs, with everything about this spider web catchy as fuck. It's like chlamydia but dirtier and easier to get. The Fat Dukes Of Fuck sound like a cross between the gas chamber stomp of Ministry, the reckless musical abandonment of Mr. Bungle, with just a dash of the Metal funkiness of Living Color, all served up by some leather clad dominatrix's with fat girl fetishes. Song titles like I Killed A Small Child and Sorry About Your Dick will give you an idea of what this band is all about lyrically, although maybe it's not a good idea to know exactly what it is they're singing about. It might give you nightmares. There's some killer stuff on here, with standout tracks including Prelude To The Greatest Night Of Your Life, Cigarette, The Mighty Bulge, Step Aside And Let That Fucker Dance. Never boring, and always pushing the boundaries of what's acceptable and what can be done musically, the Fat Dukes Of Fuck have created a shining eulogy to the excesses of living in Sin City, and for that they are to be commended! Kudos Gentlemen! This stunning release is available from the band at any gig they play, or by going directly to the band's website which you can do by clicking here. And by the way, is the model used for the cover single? :-) Now this I like! A collection of some of the best stuff that Madness has ever released. Not necessarily the 'Hits', per se, but still their best material, stuff for us real Fans and not the Punters. Our House is nowhere to be found on here. ;-) 24 tracks of pure Nutty bliss and wonder, including 2 unreleased tracks that are covers of songs by Jimmy Cliff and some classical music pratt. The song, In The Hall Of The Mountain King, was covered by the Who on The Who Sell Out. You'd know the melody if you heard it, and Madness does a proper job covering it. Both songs, leftover from the Dangermen sessions, fit in nicely with this collection, which comes with a fold out poster suitable for wanking to and some funny ass liner notes from Chrissy Boy and Lee that had me chuckling at the absurdity of it all. To know those 2 lunatics is to Love them. <3 Yeah, there's some really killer, kind of obscure material on here, stuff that you'd really have to be a fan of the band to remember them playing some of these tunes... In The Rain, Tarzan's Nuts, Don't Quote Me On That, In The City, all standing alongside the better known material like The Prince, House Of Fun, Baggy Trousers, Grey Day, The Prince, etc., and a few head scratchers (Victoria's Garden? Really? UGH!) thrown in for good measure, with all of it sounding remixed and remastered for full sonic aural overdrive; all the original versions of the songs from the albums were used on here, no singles versions, and it sounds especially splendid at a extremely loud volume. Yeah, this is a fantastic collection of stuff from one of the best bands to ever come out of the English music scene - period, and you can never go wrong buying a collection of tunes from these guys. Never. Madness. Fuck Yeah!! Pick it up! Pick it up! Pick it up! Available from Salvo Records. |
