Twat - Degentrification cover
Holy shit! I love when I get good music like this sent to me, because let's face it - most of the stuff I get sent and have access to pretty much sucks ass, and the stuff that I hear from bands Locally is best described as horribly tepid at best, and I don't even make the effort to slag it off, because I really don't even care enough about those bands to even do that, and  I'm no corporate ass kissing, everything is great!, gimme tickets to your next overpriced suck fest schlub either, running a Ignoritall© type of website, so when I take the time and make the effort to give a band a write up, then you better believe they're worth a listen, and I'm happy to say that this band Twat (or TWAT as the band writes it) from the Bay area is definitely worth checking out.

Someone in the band sent me an email, saying "we love your Reviews, here's our latest release, do with it what you will", and I added it to the queue of stuff to check out later and left it at that for a while, thinking nothing more about it. One night while on a vicious deleting spree, just cleaning out my queue by listening to 30 seconds of each song and throwing it in my recycling bin trashcan afterwords, and I got to this band
Twat's release and remembered, these are the guys from Frisco who wanted me to slag them off publicly, and boy, was I ever ready to do just that, so I opened up the Weebly website editor, got everything set up, hit Play and was just waiting to be underwhelmed, and it never happened. Instead, I was confronted with some guy yelling SANITY BOMB a few times over a catchy little Punk riff, and then it took a great left turn into some very Angry Samoans style territory (this Singer sounds a lot like Metal Mike), with some lyrics alluding to sex and the monotony of being in a band and whatnot, and the song was finished in just over a minute. They reminded me of the Angry Snowmans for some reason, like, a band
trying really hard to emulate that classic 'Punk' sound. Next song kicks in with a wicked drive and pace and a bass player that's just noodling away all over the fretboard like it's his bitch, and then that song was over, and was even shorter than the first song. Well, they got the keep 'em short and sweet part down, I thought, and then this amazing, anthem like song Right To Know comes up, with a hook bigger than King Kong himself and a vocal melody that got stuck in my head for days afterwords. I was impressed. What a great fucking song! These guys were good. Shockingly good. I was loving it all - the solid drumming, the bassist playing like Matt Freeman's little brother, the vocals and "whoah-whoah's" that sounded like they came off an Agnostic Front album, and even the guitar work sounded nice and tight and crunchy, melodic yet loud, kind of like Wasted Youth but better sounding, and that's when I figured out the appeal of this band, and it's not a bad thing in any way, shape or form, but this band Twat sounds like a band you've heard before, but they're not. They're their own glorious thing; Punk Rock done right, and listening to them is like putting on a perfectly broken in pair of Doc's before going to see your favorite band; that same, comfortable, fuck yeah, Life is great - let's slam! feeling you get when you put on that pair of your favorite Doc's for your big night out is the same feeling you get when listening to this much too short, 6 song piece of brilliance put out by a bunch of beer drinking, Punk Rock loving skateboarding lunatics in a band called Twat, of course. Fuck yeah. If short, catchy Punk Rock songs about drinking, knowing stuff, sex, quitting things, bombs, and Bumsex Alley appeal to you, then check out this band Twat - I'm pretty sure you're gonna dig them like I do! Cheers! :-)

Available on CD from the band at every gig they play. Also available digitally on iTunes (click here) or via Bandcamp (click here). "Like" Twat (huh-huh huh) on Facebook by clicking here, and don't miss them when they play the Double Clown on April 24th with some of the shittiest bands this city has ever produced - shitty bands that are "signed" too! LOL
