Written by GE 138. With an opening vibe very similar to a Led Zeppelin or Jane's Addiction song, depending on your perspective, of course, this debut 7" from Crazy Chief lets you know right off the bat just where this crazy musical train is going, and that's straight to the land of hard hitting Guitars, with lots of Sex, Drugs, Rock N' Roll, sick solos galore, and a little bit of Dungeons & Dragons thrown in for good measure. The record sounds great, and turned up loud it sounds even better. Produced and Recorded by Brian Garth (Black Camaro), and it pretty much sounds how you'd expect a record that was recorded inside of Cowtown Guitars to sound, which is incredible. The guitars are thick and overpowering, the vocals atmospheric, the bottom end loud, and the drums sit in the back pocket nicely and push things along. There's only 2 songs on this thing, and the title song is, I think, about smoking PCP and playing Dungeons & Dragons, which is something my D & D friends and I used to do with the Local gang bangers / cholos who would come over to my Dad's house to hang out in the garage and party with us while we rolled the dice and fought monsters all night long. They never really understood how we were able to 'see' what was going on without being on acid, but when they were dusted out of their minds, they saw everything and loved D & D... heh heh heh The B-side to this 7" is a smokin' cover of the Stooges Down On The Streets... Yaaayy! :-) Kudos to Crazy Chief for staying true to their DIY roots by paying for this release out of their own pocket, instead of virtual begging on the Internet via Indidgogo or some shit like that - it's how bands are supposed to put their music out. Younger bands take note. Cool little piece of vinyl from Crazy Chief. Definitely worth checking out. There's only 500 made, all on black vinyl, so grab yours quickly before it sells out and you're paying top dollar for it on eBay. Available at any of the bands gigs. Digitally it's available via the Crazy Chief Bandcamp page, which you can go to by clicking here.

Written by GE 138. It's here! It's finally here! I've only been waiting since like, forever, to let everyone know about this compilation, and now that it's officially available, go out somewhere and buy this thing immediately! It does an amazing job of capturing some of the creme de la creme of the Las Vegas Music Scene, and aside from a few obvious clunkers, this would be an almost perfect set of tunes! LOL Kudos to Cody Leavitt and John Brown for putting in all the hard work in getting this comp together and for making all the bands on here sound as good as they do. Of course, some songs are better than others, like the stand out tracks from Deadhand, Unfair Fight, The Quitters, The People's Whiskey, Surrounded By Thieves, Battle Born, TheCore, The Seriouslys, The Dirty Panties, Burning Agrestic, G.P.B., all those band turned in some stunning songs for this comp, and they definitely deserve a special shout out for doing so. A couple of bands on here don't deserve to be, because they're not really 'Punk Rock', by the longest stretch of the word, but that's OK, because they're still good, and for some reason, Track 14 won't play for me... go figure! hahaha With some superb cover artwork by Andy SBT, and with the majority of the recording for this comp being done @ Camel Hump Studios, you can definitely say that this thing is Home grown and curated, hydroponically cultivated, and an absolute must have for anyone who wants to know who some of the better bands are here in Las fucking Vegas. All bullshit aside, this is seriously a great collection of songs. Everyone involved with this thing should be proud for what they've done, because this thing is that good. Years from now this CD is going to be looked back upon as a Classic, Crucial release. Wait and see. ;-) Available from the Squid Hat Records website, which you can go to by clicking here. |
