The Bitters And The Fat Dukes Of Fuck - High 'N Dry CD cover
So I'm sitting outside of MDV Rehearsals, on a smoke break, when someone's car comes barreling in. It was the Legendary Jeff Murphy, looking for his lost cell phone. After he finds it, he goes back to his car and hands me this CD, and I start laughing at the cover, because I know what it is, and I get it, and it's stupidly funny, right down to the crappy Metal font used. Look at it closely and see how many Local faces you recognize. :-) If you don't know, the cover is a parody of the Def Leppard High 'N Dry album, but this cover is for a split CD featuring 2 Local Vegas bands, The Bitters and The Fat Dukes Of Fuck, recorded live @ the Double Down Saloon one evening, and it's really fucking good. For a live recording, it's tits, and big time Kudos to Frank Klepacki for capturing and mixing this. Sounds fantastic. How you got that good of a sound out of that cesspool I'll never know. And the performances from the band are simply marvelous. I'm not a fan of Instrumentals, per se, but the 3 songs on here from the Bitters are absurdly brilliant, and the musicianship shown on their songs Entrapment (from their self-titled 1st release) and Vinnie vs. His Garage Door (from their 2nd release Grudgement Day) is mind blowing. Holy fuck are those songs good. These guys are seriously one of the most under appreciated bands around. Hopefully this release changes that and gets more people into the band. They deserve it. Jeff Murphy, what a guitar player. Damn! And the 3 songs from The Fat Dukes Of Fuck are all top shelf, unreleased stuff, with the long time live favorite Let's Have A Threesome, with it's catchy chorus of 1 vagina and 2 dicks / That is what I like starting their 3 songs off, and their song after that, the mountain shredding, Metal infused sickness called Grandma Mormon vs The Beast In Jason's Dick has got to be heard to be believed. It's seriously hard hitting and disturbing, both at the same time. And their last song, Bafomitorium, features Jeff Murphy on guitar. Well, technically, the last song on here is Put That Son Of A Bitch In My Mouth, but that's only 40 minutes of Brent saying the word 'Mouth' over and over and over again. Don't ask. I don't know how you can get one of these CD's, and there's no Label or Contact Info anywhere on there. I'm assuming you can get one from the bands when they play a gig, but  I don't even really know if these are for sale or not, but if you see one of these lying around somewhere, do not hesitate to grab a copy of this when you get a chance. Beg the members of the Bands to give you one if you have to. It's an excellent release that captures 2 of the better bands here in Las Vegas, The Bitters and The Fat Dukes Of Fuck, at the the top of their game. Crucial stuff here, a landmark release, and an essential find. Good Luck!

Audacity 7
Straight outta Fullerton, CA. comes the catchy Power Pop of Audacity, a band made up of a bunch of kids who grew up enjoying that laid back Southern California suburb lifestyle while listening to the Buzzcocks and The Beatles, with maybe a little Nirvana thrown in for good measure. Reminds me a bit of King Tuff too, for some reason. The 2 songs on here, Finders Keepers, and Onomatopoeia, are chock full of catchy, jangly guitar work and dreamy, melodious vocal lines, with a danceable, snappy back beat to it all, well played and well structured, and the warm, lo-fi production sound to both songs only enhances the listening experience. This stuff will get stuck inside your head if you let it. These guys already have a couple of albums released, but this was the only piece of vinyl available from the band when I saw them @ Hellpop! Comics a while back, so I grabbed it and I've been listening to it non stop ever since. A very notable release from Audacity, and I'm looking forward to hearing more from these guys. Check it out and hear for yourself how good this release is. Available from Suicide Squeeze Records. First 500 on green vinyl, second 500 in orange vinyl. I got green :-)
