Cut Throay Pirates - A.I.D.S.
I found this CD by the newspaper rack @ Inner World in Oceanside, CA. With the words 'Oceanside Hardcore Punk' on the front, and A.I.D.S. as the title, I just had to grab this CD to review it for the website. Any band ballsy and/or stupid enough to call their release A.I.D.S. gets a listen in my book! LOL So I put this on not really expecting much from a band called the Cut Throat Pirates and that's exactly what I got - nothing much! ha ha ha Metal tinged Punk with lots of shouted out mass vocals with nothing new or even interesting being played. Sounds a lot like H.F.L. or even Madball. Lots of breakdowns to mosh to. It reminds me of that band your friends had in high school that you knew in the back of your mind sucked, but because they were your friends you would go to their gigs and start a pit while they played, just because you were drunk and bored. Yup! With song titles such as Smash Some Heads, We Want Blood, and Violent Massacres, you just know these guys are some violent ass thugs, some straight up G's, leaving a pile of dead bodies everywhere they go in the hoods of O-Town. ha ha ha I dunno. I'm just fucking around. These guys aren't that bad. I've definitely heard worse. Check out the Cut Throat Pirates . What do I know about anything, anyways?

You can listen to some of the songs from the  Cut Throat Pirates CD on the bands Reverb Nation page, and you can click here to check them out. They also have a Myspace page you can check out by clicking here. Go to either one of those pages and tell them to get a Facebook page like every other band, dammit.

Unfair Fight - Destruction Of Words

My, such an angry, powerful album - I love it! :-) This follow up EP to 2012's We Are The Dead release  from Unfair Fight called Destruction Of Words is nothing short of amazing. It's packed full of emotions, some good, some scary, all of them as intense as anything you've ever seen or heard, and the musicianship has grown by leaps and bounds on this release from the last one. The unorthodox time signatures and monumental momentum shifts that musically shouldn't work, but somehow do, make this album a true work of Art. Seriously. Even the packaging that came with this is spectacular, with the cover art work and the lyrics being put on display, and they're both sensational. I don't know what the lyrics mean half the time, because they read like poetry, but every now and then I get it. Love that line Seems like I've been in this place / Before so familiar yet so unsure. Le sigh. And the music? Oh my, the music is breathtaking. Opening track I'm My Worst Enemy sets the marker high and every song afterwords meets or excels beyond it. Fucking brilliant. Some songs hit hard and fast like lightning, and others make you feel like you're being run over very slowly by a steamroller, like on the start of my favorite song on here, The Price Is Blood. The give and take between Dan and Chris is one of the many strong points of Unfair Fight, the passionate, pleading vocals from Dan get perfectly offset by the angry, Fuck You! screams from Chris, like on the song Newspeak, and they compliment each other perfectly. New guitarist Derek adds some depth to the guitar sound, and the formidable rhythm section of Liz and Pete put together a chunky thick foundation of musical thunder that everything gets built on. Pete's drum lines are hard hitting and precise, like a machine, and he makes me never want to play drums ever again. Ever. There's not enough stars or thumbs up or whatever to tell you how crucial this release from Unfair Fight is. This is one for the History books. This is the best Local release of the year. Believe that.

Available from the band at every gig they play, and from Crucial 45 Records, which has no web site presence whatsoever. Truly underground. ;-) There's an unreleased song on the bands Reverb Nation page called Sleeping Through The Revolution, and you can click here to give it a listen.
