Written by GE 138. Ya know, I can't recall the last new Reverend Horton Heat album that I've heard. Was it Revival? Spend A Night In The Box? I dunno. Never kept up with what the Rev was doing, but was glad he was still out there doing it, if that makes any sense. Last time I saw him perform live was easily back in the It's Martini Time era, so when I was offered the chance to review this new release from the Reverend Horton Heat simply called Rev, well I jumped at the chance. I'm a fan, just not a very good one, and free music is free music, so what the Hell. It's kind of good / sad that this album sounds just like every other Reverend Horton Heat album that has come before it. Surf tinged instrumental? (Victory Lap) Check! Crappy song that the record company is pushing as a single? (Mad Mad Heart) Check! Funny, tongue in cheek song that gets made into a video? (Let Me Teach You How To Eat) Check! Again, I guess it doesn't really matter, because if you're a fan, you're a fan, and you're gonna love this album. Sonically, sounds great, and as far as releases goes, this definitely isn't the worst one the guys have ever done. The Reverend Horton Heat has become like the Ramones and AC/DC, releasing the same album over and over again, and I for one, don't think it's that bad of a thing. :-) Released by Victory Records, and you can buy it from them directly by clicking here. It's also available on iTunes by clicking here, and wherever else music is sold at nowadays. Add the Reverend Horton Heat as a Friend on Facebook by clicking here.
