Man, when did you ever get so tight with the gossip?? It was an offsetting question that the X-Master Bass Mistress had asked me recently, and now that I think about it, I don't really know when I did. It just sort of happened. I'm all about sharing a juicy, tantalizing tidbit that defames someones character if it's someone I don't like, but if it's someone I know and love, like it is in this case, and she asks me not to say anything about it, then yeah, I guess I'm tight with the gossip then. So be it. I mean, I told her what the gossip was anyways, but only after she told me some better, juicer, idle gossip first... heh heh heh Hey! Today is Thursday! That means that tomorrow is Friday! What does that mean? Well, fuck all really, but what it does mean for this particular Friday is that the Vegascendents are playing @ Bar 702 with a crappy Misfits cover band called Horror Business and a what I can only imagine to be a crappy Social Distortion cover band called The Knock Outs. Le sigh. I'm hoping they'll be sort-of OK as opposed to tolerably tepid. I mean, what are the chances of them just tearing through an intense version of Lude Boy, instead of a predictable crowd singalong, by the numbers version of Ball And Chain? Yeah, zero to none, I know, but still, you give the people what they want and apparently, what some people want these days is to hear cover songs, and if you're one of them, you should stop by and get your fill on what's sure to be a cover filled evening of Bacchanalia, Booze, and Boobs - both male and female! ;-) And then on Saturday, oh yes on Saturday, there's a gig going on Downtown that is NOT to be missed, and that's TheCore, Deadhand and Fredward @ the Bunkhouse. They're all playing with some band called Lariats, who are in town for the weekend, playing an all ages gig out in Hendertucky on Friday as well, and it's gonna be a great gig, to say the least. Babe, I know you read this website, why I don't know, just like I wonder why anybody reads this tripe, but I digress, and babe, I'm telling you, publicly, right here and now, that I cannot miss this gig - no way, shape or no how. Nope! I need a Deadhand fix like, oh so badly, and I've been oh so good as of late, so why can't I get a dosage of some boner inducing, death from above, righteous tuneage from one of my favorite bands ever! So sexy and stinky, sickly sweet, such dirty, nice boys, or is that nice and dirty boys? Hmmmmmm... oh Deadhand, how I love thee! <3 And if anorexic junkie man-boys aren't to your liking, you can always embrace the super sexy teddy bear cuddliness of the bearded, manly men in TheCore. Those guys look like they know a thing or two about snuggling, that's for sure! ;-) So much meaty sexiness in one room! Oh, be still my beating heart! ha ha ha See ya there! Sunday afternoon there's a righteous beer and burger skate sesh going down at a super secret location in North town somewhere, but, in the words of my friend Ena, you can't go. Invite only. I'm sure if you ask around you can find out about it, and it should be an interesting little gathering, to say the least. You just never know who's gonna show up and what they're gonna do, now do you? heh heh heh
Everything is updated - new photos of Unfair Fight just posted, and you can click here to check those out. A Show Review from Karl Bakla on the Eat The Turnbuckle gig that went down a few weeks back, and you can click here to read that. Life is Good. Hope it is with you too. Have a great weekend! :-)

It's Friday. I'm listening to a live feed of the Police and FBI agents storming a neighborhood in search of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, and all I gotta say is that if you believe any of this shit the Govt. and so-called News sources and Media outlets are force feeding you, then I truly feel sorry for you. Sheep. The Al-Queda aspect is being pushed, the troubled teen angle is being played, and, of course, no one will live or be given a chance to tell their side of the story - Christopher Dorner anyone? How's that James Holmes thing working out? Yeah, and while the Sheeple were distracted by the loud noises and bomb explosions and watching the sacrificial lambs do their part, your 4th Amendment rights are on the ropes and about to be taken away? CISPA passed the House and is now on the Senate floor. Do you care? Of course not! let's just get drunk and high and stupid and talk about superficial things like Punk Rock and shitty Black Flag karaoke acts! :-) Last nights gig @ the Beauty Bar was exceptional! Special Thanx to Blue Tile Lounge Events, Nevermore Productions, and Push Forward Skateboarding for making it all happen. And Thanx to Jarret Keene and Seven magazine for the little write up. Click here to read that. Tons and tons of good Friends and Family in attendance, lots of interesting and engaging Artwork all around the place, there was a metal half pipe that was being raged on all night by some pretty talented and wasted skateboarders, and the bands were more than acceptable - they were exceptional! The Swamp Gospel kicked things off with a spiritual set of Cramps tinged boogie woogie voodoo Punk, which include the handing out of free shots of Spirits mid-set and then the obligatory cover of Strychnine by the Sonics immediately afterwords... heh. I missed Fuzz SoLow, because I was inside checking things out with my girlfriend, and I missed Crazy Chief because they had to cancel, due to some Family emergency, but I've seen 'em both before, and I know that they're good, so no biggie, but I did get back outside to see Unfair Fight just fucking RAGE through a set of Punk Rock goodness that was captivating and a true joy to watch. Dan's performance was exemplary, with him egging the crowd on via in your face interaction and vocal delivery, and Chris just shredding the riffs away on the geetar sounded great. Everyone was buzzing about Liz's bass playing, and Pete was easily the best Drummer of the evening - as always - no offense Lenny. ;-) Unfair Fight were just incredible and they get better each and every time I see them. My band American Buckshot was up next and we seemed to do OK. I wasn't really paying attention, as I was bashing the ever living fuck out of my drum set while pondering such lofty subjects as Why is there air? and How would you coat the Empire State Building in bananas to deter King Kong? People really liked us, and there was lots of compliments doled out afterwords, so Thanx everyone. It was beyond fun, to say the least. Mersa played after us and I couldn't stick around outside to watch them, as I was soaking wet from just playing and didn't wanna catch my death from cold, so I spent the remainder of the evening at the bar chatting the night away with everyone who bothered to show up. Lots of cool peeps I haven't seen in a while, and Family too, which is always a good thing. Cheers everyone. It was a fantastic night. Surrounded By Thieves are playing with some really shitty bands tonight @ the Motor City Cafe. I'd say more about what a bunch of asshats the other bands they're playing with are, but I've really got better things to do. Improve your lot in Life Surrounded By Thieves. You can do better than that and remember, discretion is a good thing. Same with you Motor City Cafe. Leave those mediocre bands and the inevitable Drama they bring to East Side Joe's. It thrives in that cesspool and is not wanted in our scene. Everyone in the facebook world was all aflutter about this whole Flag gig that went down last night @ the Moose Lodge in Redondo Beach, the exact same spot where Black Flag played their first gig. I always thought their first gig was @ Pollywog Park, but no less than an authoritative source as Spin magazine say different, so it must be true. Click here to read their write up on the whole thing. Now, my pessimistic, opposing view of this whole thing is that, if it's a Black Flag karaoke act you're looking for, then Flag is perfect. I'm not into this whole Nostalgia for Nostalgia's sake thing that everyone else is, because not every band can get back together and still kick ass and write great new material that stands up just as well as to their earlier releases. You wanna make me a believer - release some new stuff and quit slaughtering the cash cow. I mean, they had to bring Dez Cadena into the fold just to have more material to play so they could have a full set and get paid. Lame. I'm not even going to mention the fact that Keith and Chuck have been playing these same songs with the rest of the guys in Off! as the backing band under the name No Flag for a couple of years now as well, because that would just take away from the oh-so-good feeling that reunions for cash bring to the ignorant masses. Those bills don't pay themselves ya know! LOL If you don't believe me about this karaoke act aspect I'm pushing, then check out this video from last night of Flag doing My War, a song that only 1 person - the drummer - played on the record for. Nice. You people in Vegas might remember when bands like the Platters or the Coasters would do the same thing here, playing all the hits with only 1 original member in the group... yeah, well, this Flag thing is just the same - and just as sad as well. The Double Clown has been closed for a week, and I wish it would stay that way. Oh well. There's lots of stuff going on this weekend, including 4/20 related events, like the 3rd Annual World Bong Hit Holding contest going down at SOMEBODY'S house, and the 4/20 Munchie Party with Burning Agrestic and Lambs To Lions and some other bands smoking things up @ the Bunkhouse, and this years munchies will include brownies, pizza rolls and nachos! Oh, and some veggies for the Hippy Hipsters that eat like rabbits. There's also some sick ass Stoner Metal gig going on @ Favorites with The Ultra Electric Galactic, Blakk Heat Shujaa, and some other bands whose names probably sound really witty and insightful when stoned out of your gourd, and, of course, some Record Store Day propaganda, where I will be participating by watching Pet Tigers play with Talib Kweli (who?) @ Zia Records on Eastern, and then afterwords, if my better half is feeling up to it, I'm gonna be at this Pat Todd And The Rank Outsiders gig @ Backstage Bar & Billiards, featuring the return of the Black Jetts, a long and sorely missed musical entity here in the City. And if you don't know who Pat Todd is, just go kill yourself now. If kick ass Rock N Roll is not your thing, then you could always go to Scarlet @ Artifice, or the Highland Games, and be like all the other hipster homo's walking around in a kilt, or you could even see that ol' Chickenshit Conformist Hypocrite himself, Jello Biafra, with his farcical band Jello Biafra And The Guantanamo School Of Medicine, a reference to something that wasn't funny or interesting then and is still neither now. He'll be playing all those Dead Kennedys hits that he swore up and down in numerous interviews that he would never do, because he believed he was such a creative musical force that he didn't need to resort to that to get people to come see him play live. Yeah, glad to see Mr. Integrity is true to his word, and all after coming off of performing at Coachella this year too. Way to play by the rules and conform like all the other sheeple Mr. Biafra. I used to admire and revere you. Now I just pity you and aspire to be everything you're not with my Integrity intact. Cheers you old queen. Cheers. Everything is updated. Damn I've written a lot. I don't have the luxury of writing as much as I'd like to, but it's always fun when I can sneak the time in. Did I tell you about the 3D6 Music Review I did? Click here to read that. Did you see the photos of Lenguas Largas that I posted? Click here to see those if you haven't already. I took them @ Hellpop! Comics when the band played there like a month ago. Timely I know. Oh, I also posted the photos I took of Nü Sensae that I took that night as well. Click here to check those out. I love all the Drama going on with the Arts Factory and the Bar & Bistro closure. Seems like that owner of B & B and the owner of Yayo Taco share that same 'I'm being persecuted' complex. Whatever. That place sucked anyways. Uhhhmmmm... I corrected the Jimi Hendrix review for his latest release People, Hell And Angels, and you can click here to read that. I'm sure there's more to tell you about, but I'm tired. I was up all night. I need a nap. See ya at the gigs! :-) Time is definitely not in my favor as of late. Stretched thinner and thinner with every passing day, I think I may have reached my limit. Something's gotta give. And soon.
I was supposed to play a gig tonight @ Favorites tonight, but it got cancelled for some reason, but it doesn't matter, because that place SUCKS as far as Promotions and letting people know about what bands are playing there go. I played a gig on Tuesday @ the Bunkhouse that didn't suffer from no promotion - it had plenty of that - no, what it suffered from was a lack of sets of breathing lungs and beating hearts. There was NOBODY there except for the bands that were playing, which was a shame, because the Bass Line Bums were pretty good, wrangling up the Spirit of '77 without sounding too much like a Rancid rip off. And they did it all after spending the previous night running around the Strip tripping balls on acid, which they made a great effort to let everyone know about... heh There is absolutely dog ends going on this weekend. Nothing but fucking beard core shows, 80's dance parties, and anniversary celebrations. Phooey. Lots of gigs happening all around town, even at Boomers if ya can believe that, but none of it interests me. The gig @ the Double Clown with S.F.T. and I.D.F.I. would be cool if it was at any other place. Sunday's gig with The Selecter and Lee "Scratch" Perry should be tits. Can't wait. Meanwhile I'm going to go back to doing a whole lotta nothing with my better half and loving every minute of it. ;-) Everything is updated, I think. New photos of Audacity playing @ Hellpop! were added (click here to see them), as well as some photos of TheCore playing @ Backstage Bar & Billiards a while back, and you can click here to see those. My camera was acting weird that night, and I'm still not sure why. Poltergeists perhaps? Who knows. All those reviews I promised are coming. I just gotta find the time to format them and double check them... What a weekend, huh? ;-)
I think it was on Friday that I heard from somewhere or somebody that Holding On To Sound had announced their imminent breakup as a band via the Interwebz. While I wasn't the biggest fan of the band, their lack of presence in the Scene will definitely be missed. I've seen them play some magical shows before, fascinating factions of Friends, Family, and Fans in venues both small and large, and it's not gonna be the same without them around, that's for sure. If there is a plus side to all this, it's that I hope they all remain close and keep on making music in whatever future endeavors they may peruse. Farewell show perhaps?? First Friday was beyond fucking packed this month, and with the narrowing of Charleston Blvd. down to 1 lane before the 15 underpass, it seriously took me 2 hours to find a parking spot, and by the time I did, I got to Cowtown Guitars just in time to see Crazy Chief play their last song. Booooooo. There was no food or booze left in the place, so my girl and I went off in search of Food and Art and Adventure. It was great seeing all of you for the short time that I did while I was there... heh heh I think it was on Sat. that somebody told me that Squid Hat Records had just signed Guilty By Association to their label, and after I stopped laughing for about 15 minutes straight I was pretty happy for the guys. Congratulations GBA! I know you guys will make the most out of this wonderful opportunity you've been given. Do Vegas Proud! :-) I didn't even make it to the Skatalites on Sat. I suck. I know. And on Sun. I had 3, count them, 3 band practices set up, one right after another, starting at high noon of course, and thankfully one band took the chickenshit route out of it and cancelled practice hours before it was scheduled to begin (was the celebration to being signed to Squid Hat too much to bear the next day? LOL), so I caught a break, kind of, but man, am I sore and fucking tired today. And I gotta do it again tonight. And again tomorrow night for this gig @ the Bunkhouse that I know nothing about. Yeah. Being a Drummer is fantastic... heh heh heh Everything is updated, I think. I don't really care. I'm going back to bed. It's Friday - I'm in Love L-U-V! ;-)
Hmmmm... so let's see... there's the Crazy Chief First Friday gig going down tonight @ Cowtown Guitars, with free food and booze to all who attend. Starts @ 6 - see you there. I don't know why you would want to be anywhere else tonight, but if you are, it better be to see Goatwhore @ the Cheyenne Saloon. ;-) Tomorrow night it's all about the Skatalites @ the Bunkhouse, and on Sunday, well, I guess you could go see Spindrift @ Artifice if you wanted to. Updates to the website include Music Reviews on the latest from The Loss (click here to check that out), a split 7" by Stomper 98 and the 45 Adapters that was written by Karl Bakla (click here to read that), a review of a Minor Threat bootleg that was written by Colin Oscopy (click here to read that), who also turned in a Gig Review for The Wreckless, Child Endangerment and Sounds Of Shit gig that went down @ the Motor City Cafe a few weeks ago, and you can click here to read that. I had to put that 'Edited by GE 138' byline on that review to let those dooshbags in Sounds Of Shit know what I think of them. Same with the flyer. If you don't like it, suck it, you little slumming poseur rich kid fucks. Everything is updated. Life is incredible. I'm so above and beyond everything right now that it's more than funny - it's life affirming, and I have her to thank for it. :-) 'Twas the bestest weekend EVER, and that's no April Fool's Day joke! That girl is beyond everything... :-)
I was watching the Hudson Falcons play, giving it all that they had to a super appreciative audience, standing there wobbling around on one leg, because earlier some drunken jackass sent me flying into a drink full of tables during the Civilians set, a set that the Civilians just fucking slayed at playing BTW. I'm So Happy never sounded better. :-) Anyways, I was watching the Hudson Falcons and I was just reveling in the glory of the past 72 hours. I was tired, sore, drunk, hungover, hungry and brain dead and barely breathing. 24 hours earlier I was watching the Gears play to a room full of no one, but that was OK, because the band sounded PHENOMENAL, playing everything you'd wanna hear and more, including my favorite songs by them Wasting Time and, of course, I Smoke Dope. The band that played before them, Galaxy Express, from South Korea of all places, were infuckingcredible, playing this high energy, Punk Rock Soul Psychedelic conglomeration of musical yumminess that was something breathtakingly beautiful to behold. You really should of been there to see them. You truly missed out. And I finally got to see the Seriouslys with their new drummer, who is like, a zillion times better than their old drummer Emma. They sounded great and I bought a CD from Xtal after their set, which, I think she told me has been out for a year or so now. Boy, do I feel stupid. :-/ The surprise band of the night, the Aggravators (or the Aggrovators, depending on the spelling on the flyer or from the band itself) were really fucking good too. Made up of a bunch of Local Musicians both young and old, and lead by the Legendary Danny Breedan himself on vocals, they played a set of Raw and Dirty Punk Rock N Roll that was pretty damn impressive. I liked 'em. And opening band the Tinglerz killed it, as they always do. Those guys need to get a recording out like, as soon as fucking possible, I swear. Yeah, it was a great night and I think that all 20 people who were there had a good time... I think. Don't really matter anyways, because I had a blast. I think she did too. :-) 48 hours earlier I'm barely out of bed at the crack of 6 pm and The Bassmaster General Jeremy is knocking on my window, waking me up with bottles of Mangria in his hand and tickets to see Adam Carolla and Dr. Drew live @ the House of Boooooo's. I had nothing better planned, so I got dressed and off we went. Adam Carolla is a funny motherfucker, and all those glasses of Mangria definitely made him even funnier. Dr. Drew is still a doosh though, and we saw him wandering around the venue before the gig looking like he was trying to find a way in or something. Fun night that I don't even remember ending. I woke up the next morning regretting all that Mangria from the night before, that's for sure. That stuffs got a mean bite to it. It was a good way to kick off the weekend, to say the least. Everything's updated. I've got all sorts of stuff to post this week - Show Reviews, Music Reviews, Pictures, Videos, when I got the time to do it, but I don't know when or where that's gonna be. Patience is a Virtue, and Good Things come to those who Wait... or so I hear anyways... |
