Long story short - I'm out! Yaaaaaaayy!
Tonight! Go and see the Batusis, featuring Sylvain Sylvain and Cheetah Chrome, playing tonight @ Roxie's 1st Annual Bitchin' Halloween party. Local support is being provided by 1/2 Ast and the Vermin. It's $7 to get in, but absolutely Free if you come dressed up in Mad Max attire, which is the theme for this years party. It sounds like it's going to be a great time. If I had a car I would soooooooooo be there.
Don't forget about the Resistant Culture gig happening @ Yayo Taco tonight as well. Local support is coming from Life's Torment, Blatant, and Eyesore, a new band featuring Senor Adrian, who is an Airbag veterano and ex Third World War roadie. ;-) I think it's their debut performance, but I'm not sure. Every crusty, wanna-be squatter fuck rich kid slumming in Las Vegas will be in attendance tonight, and I'm sure the smell inside the place will be almost as bad as it was at that Star Fucking Hipsters gig a while back. Bring a clothes pin for your nose and you'll be fine. Avoid the inevitable Drama at all costs. :-)
Lots of stuff going on this weekend, maybe a bit too much, but it's all up on the Gig Calendar page. Plan accordingly. I'm off to celebrate my freedom by watching the sun rise from outside of the CCDC, something I didn't think I'd be doing 24 hours ago.
Oh man, I hate when shit like this happens. Gregory Isaacs passed away yesterday. To say it came as a bit of a shock is an understatement. The King of Lover's Rock. The Cool Ruler. The Lonely Lover. And now he's gone. Fuck. He was scheduled to play Oct. 8 @ the Hard Rock, but cancelled. Now I know why - the lung cancer he died from. Man, Life is Fragile, isn't it? All Respect due to Gregory Isaacs. Your journey is over. Jah bless. May you find your way home to Zion.
Ari-Up from the Slits passed away a few days ago as well, but I didn't really care too much about that, because the Slits have always, always sucked, figuratively and literally, in my book. How do you think they got that opening slot on that Clash Tour? It sure wasn't because of their musical talent, that's for sure! hee hee hee
Busy weekend. Fri. I dragged my tired ass out to see S.F.T. play on the hallowed Holy grounds of the Sanctuary, which is apparently a church of some sorts. It was my first time seeing the band play, and I really dug what I was hearing from them. True 'Hardcore" punk rock played really well, with snarling guitar riffs, scaling bass runs and fast and furious punk rock drumming, all lead by a singer who apologized for the band being as sober as they were! LOL As good as the band was, it didn't beat what was the highlight of the night was, and that was the opening band. Comprised of a bunch of 15 and 16 year old kids playing through little 20 watt practice amps and a tiny ass drum set, they pretty much nailed it perfectly when they came off the stage and walked out the back door and announced for all to hear 'Dude, we sucked!'. hahahahaha It was brutally honest and a perfect summation of the bands set. How could you not love that?
Sat. night was the dual debut performance of Aluminum Falcon and Last Night's Heroes, opening up for Betting On Tomorrow and the Sex Slaves, who apparently thought it was cool to have spinner rims covering their amplifier speakers. Don't ask. Last Night's Heroes were the best thing about the evening, with their set full of songs that were only Punk in the broadest, most general of terms, but still played a fanfuckingtastic set of mid-tempo tunes that had me standing there in my Storm Trooper costume rocking along to every note played. Jeremy standing right next to me in his Jabba The Hut costume must of made us quite the eye catching pair standing front and center during Last Night's Heroes set. They were really good, and I'm looking forward to seeing a whole lot more of them in the future. Bands like them keep me optimistic on the future of the LVMS.
Yeah, my new band Aluminum Falcon played as well, and for some reason we thought it would be a great idea to perform our debut gig in full regalia Star Wars costumes, as if we needed something else to make the task before us more difficult. What seemed like a good idea at the time turned out to be an almost an epic fail when things like singing and playing and jumping around in costumes was taken into account, not to mention the absolute horror of trying to breathe in one of those things. I myself almost passed out twice behind the kit, but kept the damn costume on for the entire duration. Yaaaayyy me! I can't say the same about one of my other band mates though... coughcoughJeremycoughcough. :-) Anyways, I had a blast, people seemed to like us, whether it was because of the tunes or the costumes I don't know, but I do know this - we will NOT be playing every gig in costume, that's for sure! hahaha The pictures Jesse 'The Super Photographer" Nabers took that night looked amazing, as usual. Can't wait to see the rest of them.
59-14. Against the Broncos. It could not have been any sweeter, nor could it have happened against a more deserving team. :-) Raider Nation Por Vida! In Hockey Land, I'm still of the belief that Niemi is a cocksucker who gives up soft rebounds and sloppy shots and who won't be a Shark next year. I think his signing was a mistake. Nittymaki is much better suited to Team Teal. 7 points in 7 games gives us 82 for the season, much worse than last year, and no where near what's needed to make the playoffs. I am not optimistic.
In conclusion, I got Court tomorrow, and I don't think I'm walking out of there. When your own Lawyer tells you to bring your toothbrush, it can't be good, right? LOL Ahhhhh... I'm forever optimistic, but just in case, if you don't hear from me by Weds. afternoon, well, see ya next year! hahaahhaaa Happy Halloween everyone!
FUCK! All this legal fanagling (Urban Dictionary: Fanagling. 1. To Fanagle or the act of fanagling would be to pull an extreme hustle, to change the winds of Fate into your favor.) I've been doing this week has been keeping me busy. Looking for a costume for tonight's gig hasn't been helping either. Discarded ideas: Teletubbies (I know, RIGHT?), the guys from the Hangover, and comic book heroes. I was gonna be Rorschach, of course! ;-) I probably shouldn't of eaten those mushrooms either, but that's another story. All of this means is that I've been too busy to properly keep up on things here on the website. I haven't even had time to promote my own damn gig happening tonight! LOL Let's get that out of the way then, shall we?
Yeah, in case you missed it on the way in, my new band Aluminum Falcon, is playing our debut gig @ the LVCS tonight with Betting On Tomorrow, who are good, and Last Night's Heroes, who are also making their debut tonight at the gig! How cool is that? Liz, bass player extraordinaire, and all around amazing girl, is playing bass for Last Night's Heroes, so come out to the gig tonight and witness the future of the Las Vegas Music Scene. In a perfect world, both bands will have massive drug habits, loads of sexually transmitted diseases, and lots of fans and friends who will document their ascent and descent in the music world within the next 6 months... hee hee hee
Speaking of drug habits and sexually transmitted diseases, Grandpa Spooky is back in town! hahahaaha Just kidding... or am I? ;-) But seriously, there's no Mexican Ghoul I love more than that man, and no matter the circumstances, it's good to have him back among his friends who love nothing better than to make fun of his ass... hee hee hee
Speaking of ghouls, tonight's the Zombie Walk! It's starting @ the Luxor, and I'm not sure if it's gonna make it downtown or not like it was last year, but if it does, all of you Zombies are more than welcome to come upstairs into the LVCS for a nice warm serving of blood and, of course, brains, served chilled or slightly warmed up, to simulate the body's natural temperature. And no filler here buddy - all brains served tonight are 100% fresh human brains, with not a hint of formaldehyde in them, nope. We take pride in the freshness of our human brains. Stop on by tonight and get yourself some. I'll be the dork in the nerdy movie character costume, with 3 others of the same ilk. ;-) See ya there. Everything is sort-of updated, new Pictures of 400 Blows added, and Zeke too, for all of you who were clamoring to see those. Enjoy!
Yesterday was not a good day to be a Bay area sports fan. After watching the Raiders lose to the 49er's (UGH!!) and reading about the Sharks losing to Atlanta the night before (WTF??), I decided to give up on sports for the moment and focus on Punk Rock, ignoring the throbbing, misshapen thing that used to be my knee, and popping a few more Lori's to get me through the rest of the day. Wasn't the rain yesterday awesome?? <3
So yeah, Sat. nights gig @ the LVCS was THE BEST!! Zeke just fucked shit up left and right, spraying out an onslaught that was just terrifying in it's musical brutality and stunning in it's delivery, with every song being played in rapid fire succession with no room to breathe in between. It was truly astonishing to witness, and if you weren't there, then, nevermind. You're an idiot and not worth the effort. I missed 1/2 Ast but got there in time to see Pigasus blow the doors off the place, which was pretty cool. They were playing FAST!! WTF?? hahahaha And I got to check out the 7 Outs, who were pretty good. Dirk & Turbo from the Vermin are in the band, as well as some Singer who apparently doesn't pay taxes or something... heh heh They also had the Happiest Bassist In The World playing for them. He was cool to watch. And with their really old school punk rock sound (they reminded me of Chelsea or the Damned, for some reason) I'm looking forward to seeing what becomes of them and what they do musically. Check them out if you haven't already - they're pretty good. Mind blowing night @ the LVCS, much needed and deeply appreciated. Thank you Roxie! XOXO Glad to see so many of my friends in attendance. It's always good when we gather on Fremont Street to partake in some yummy Punk Rock goodness. And how sick is that zip line ride running down Fremont St. going to be, huh? Yeah, can't wait to ride that sucka...
Before I made the trek down to Fremont St., Jeremy and I were at that Roller derby thing that was happening @ the Riviera. Pretty cool stuff. Watching crazy chicks on roller skates constantly turning left while wearing tights is always a fun way to spend the evening. For those of you keeping score, the Tommy Gun Terrors beat the Hoover Damned by a really large margin. They were given quite a good spanking, well, at least in my mind anyways. ;-) Rollerderby has sure come a long way. I don't know if that's a good thing or not. It was also Jeremy's Birthday that night, with lots of booze imbibed and a good time had by all, especially on the ride home... hahahaha Happy belated Birthday Jeremy, my heterosexual Life partner. XOXO
I'm not even gonna talk about how much I hate that the 49er's got their first win of the season against the Raiders. Fucking shit balls. :-( If we had a quarterback, or we could learn how to tackle people, we would be dangerous. And I don't know what's going on with the Sharks. I am soooooooo not a Niemi fan yet.
Since I have no car as of this moment, I'm pretty much housebound right now. Practice sessions for the upcoming Aluminum Falcon debut gig this Sat. @ LVCS has me focused, vigilant and determined to play one Hell of a set for all 3 people who will be there! LOL The songs are really good though. Reminds me a lot of Pulley, or Strung Out... I dunno. You tell me when you hear it. We've been working our asses off getting the music good, and I'm thinking people are gonna dig it. Hopefully. Anyways, as usual, everything is updated. All the Pictures from this year are up and in the new format. I'm happy that's over with. Now on to something else just as banal!
hahahahahaha I've been so busy concentrating on other things not website related that I've been majorly slacking off on doing stuff to it! LOL First off, go to this show tonight - the band Valient Thorr must be sort of good, because they have ads for their current Tour in all the skateboarding magazines that I subscribe to, and we all know that those can always be trusted, right? ;-)
And then Saturday, oh em gee, on Saturday, Vegas is going to get rocked the fuck out when the all mighty Zeke hit the LVCS stage. Do I need to remind you of what an efficient, deadly, killing machine the band Zeke is? Hope not. Needles to say, if you aren't at this gig on Sat., you might as well just cut your nuts off or cut your tits off and hang your head in shame, and bemoan the fact that you missed the chance to see one of the Devil's most astounding creations, in it's natural element, right in your own backyard. Attendance is mandatory, and by the way, how awesome is the Local support for the gig. Pretty sick. Get there early.
Saturday is Roy from the Black Jetts birthday, and him and his band of handsome musical banditos are going to be celebrating the birth of the Man and his Pork Chops by playing a gig @ the Double Down. Should be a pretty fun filled time. Bring the birthday boy some cloves. I hear he likes them. ;-) Happy Birthday Roy! XOXOXO I'd be there myself to wish you a Happy B-Day, but, you know, it's the Double Down, and Zeke is playing, and, uhhmmmmm... yeah... hahaha See you at the gigs this weekend.
