Soooooo... did I miss out on anything exciting or fun that went down this past weekend? Well, I guess that would depend on what your definition of the word 'fun' is, now wouldn't it! ;-) Big Congrats! to Dean and Blue Tile Lounge Events for pulling off the unthinkable with the only event truly worth attending this weekend, and that was his Skate Punk Reunion gig @ the Atomic Liquors with too many awesome bands playing to mention. If you missed out on this, and I know you did, then just kick yourself in the ass and make plans to attend the event next year. Yes, there will be another one next year. Wait and see. Just the fact that it's a big middle finger 'Fuck You' to the Sterns and PRP is more than enough reason to support this Locally centered, Locally supporting music event. Look, if anyone deserves to get rich from this whole 'Punk Rock' thing it's Dean, not those dooshbags the Sterns... hahahaha It was both an Honor and a Privilege to participate in the inaugural event. Looking forward to the next one, and for the many more for years to come. Not to say that Rawkmom's Gutterball Bash was no slouch either! It's always a pleasure to play her events (I think we've done 3 of them now) and this last one was no exception from the other amazeballs events she's done before. Good bands, good friends, good times. I think it was her persistent asking (and our general contempt over what passes itself off as 'Punk Rock' or a 'Good' band nowadays) that got the Loud Pipes back together and rolling again, so big Thanx to her and to everyone else who showed up to welcome us back in a big, big way. Lots of ghost from the past were in attendance, and some rad new people were there too. ;-) You guys all rule! Seriously. And yes, of course, Jesse 'Photo Joto' Nabers was there, and he took a whole lotta photos of us playing both sets, so you can click here to check out the photos he took of us playing the Double Clown by clicking here, and you can check out his photos of us playing the Skate Punk Reunion gig @ Atomic Liquors by clicking here. Next Loud Pipes gig is June 6th @ the Dive with Nashville Pussy and The Black Jetts. Get Hyped!!

Still sucking that Stern dick, huh? You've probably grown accustomed to it by now, even enjoying the taste, Hell, I know some of you out there look forward to sucking that Stern dick every year, and you love giving them all your money while you do it. OK, you can justify it any way you see fit, because if you're a Local, and you don't know how to scam your way into any of the events going on, then you're an idiot that deserves every bit of fleecing that's coming to you, but seriously? Is it that hard to avoid this thing, to realize what a sham it is? Do the math, add up the numbers, and figure out who's getting rich off of this and who it benefits... it sure ain't the band, that's for sure. Le sigh. The Emperor is not wearing any clothes, and not only does everyone not care, but they justify it somehow... phooey. Whatever. My out of town friend is awakening. I got better things to do. See you at The Loud Pipes gigs tonight! :-) Sung to the tune of Halloween by the Dead Kennedys.
So it's Punk Rock Bowling And you feel like dancin' And you feel like shinin' And you feel like letting loose Whatcha gonna be? Babe, you better know And you better plan Better plan all day Better plan all week Better plan all month Better plan all year You're dressed up like a clown Putting on your act It's the only time all year You'll ever admit that I can see your eyes I can see your brain Baby, nothing's changed (repeat) You're still hiding in a mask You take your fun seriously No, don't blow this year's chance Tomorrow your mold goes back on After Punk Rock Bowling Pool parties for days After gig parties tomorrow Shitfaced tonight You'll brag about it for months Remember what I did Remember who I saw Back at Punk Rock Bowling But what's in between Where are your ideas You sit around and dream For next Punk Rock Bowling Why not everyday Are you so afraid What will people say Why not everyday Are you so afraid What will people say After Punk Rock Bowling Because your role is planned for you There's nothing you can do But stop and think it through But what will the Punx say to you And what will your girlfriend say to you And the Poseurs out on the street they might glare at you And whadya know you're pretty self-conscious too So you run back and stuff yourselves in rigid business costumes Only at night to score is your painted leather jacket exhumed Why don't you take your Punk Rock rules and regulations And shove 'em up your ass Why don't you take your Punk Rock rules and regulations And shove 'em up your ass Why don't you take your Punk Rock rules and regulations And shove 'em UP YOUR ASS!!! OK - here's all you need to know about what's going on this weekend. This will be your Friday. Dive bar. False Confession is no longer playing, and Luicidal has taken their place on the bill. Enjoy the packed like sardines feeling while you're there. Worth it for Ill Repute alone. There's an updated flyer floating around Facebook somewhere, but if the bands are too lazy to promote their own gig, then why the fuck should I? LOL Then on Sat., you have 2 events where attendance is mandatory. First the Double Clown, then Atomic Liquors. Bring your ear plugs, because by the time The Loud Pipes are done playing, your ears will be bleeding. And remember, it's a desert out there - drink wisely and keep hydrated. Sun. is a day of rest/recovery. There's a house party / after party / skate sesh / BBQ / swim party going on that day, you're not invited, but I suppose if you were feeling like going out and doing something that isn't Punk Rock Posing related, you could go to the Buzzcuts / Yeastie Boys / Circus Jerks gig @ the Double Clown, OR, you could go to this noisy looking gig here with Gigan, a band named after a Godzilla monster who has hooks for hands and feet, and a saw blade sticking out of his belly. Brilliant. And on Mon., if you're still alive, I suppose you could go to this gig and stand around and act like you give a fuck, act like you couldn't see that exact same line up any day of the month here locally, and act like the Voodoo Glow Skulls didn't just play here a few weeks ago at a better venue with better sound in a better part of town. Oh, I forgot that all the cool kids will be Downtown this weekend for Punk Rock Posing - my bad! You're all the same as every other shitty convention that brings fucking Tourists to our town and fucks it all up. You all dress and look the same, you're no better than Shriners. I hope you're proud of yourself.
Here's a cool little write up from Seven magazine on the return of The Loud Pipes... big Thanx! to Jarret Keene for the kind words. If you wanna read it on their website then please click here. The Machine has just begun to warm up. The Curse has arisen and struck again. The Haterade is freshly tapped, finely aged, and flowing freely. The Game has reared it's ugly head once again. Train's just leaving the station... you should jump on and get ready for one Hell of a ride!! :-)
In case you didn't know, well, now you do! :-) The Loud Pipes are now playing the Skate Punk Reunion gig @ Atomic Liquors on Sat. If you don't get enough of us playing @ the Double Clown earlier on the same day for Rawkmom's Gutterball Bash #6, you can follow the caravan of us Downtown to blow up what's left of the stage at the Blue Tile Lounge Presents event. Yeah, Dean was hesitant for some reason to announce that we were playing, out of fear of upsetting Moss, if you can believe that, and after a bit of poking and prodding we finally got him to tell everyone we were playing the gig. Why 2 gigs on the same day, you ask? Well, because we can, and because we're stupid like that, and because we believe in making a loud, grand entrance everywhere we go. The Spectacle is part of the Fun. :-) I believe this quote that was uttered the other day after a particularly blistering set pretty much sums it up. "It's called The Loud Pipes, not The Quiet Pipes." --Jesse Jerk We, and by we, I mean, Tony and I, we made a video to promote our return, and almost every single picture in the thing was taken by Capt. Jesse "Don't Call Me PhotoBoy" Nabers, except for the one pic of Dave playing the Double Clown, and the other one of him naked and pointing at gawd knows what was taken by me! hahahaha Boy, was THAT a fun night! LOL Anyways, here's the video - enjoy! Share it. Promote it. Take the word to the streets. The Party Starts NOW! :-) I needed this weekend. I really did. Waking up in Laughlin, after that crazy ass gig in Bullhead City the night before, just seemed perfect! LOL It seems no matter where ya go, there's always gonna be drunken shenanigans at any gig. I'm still not sure what happened, and I really don't care, but it was funny to watch. And I'm told the gig was broadcast over the Internet, which would of been nice to know beforehand, because I would of totally told people to watch us play, and the guy who was responsible for doing the broadcast told us we had people from Australia and Switzerland digging the Vegascendents, so there ya go! ha ha ha It was a fun night. Didn't see too much of Reject Riot, who were just finishing up by the time we got there, and Turbo Snail were a drunken train wreck of awesomeness that was cool to watch. If it was really their last show ever, then they went out on a good one. Cool bands. Cool people. Thanx for all the generosity and hospitality everyone. Looking forward to coming back there soon. Oh, and praise Allah for whoever was handing out those whiskey shots in plastic bags... heh heh Playing the S.F.T. gig the next day @ Pair-A-Dice tattoo was a bit of a challenge. Tired, hung over, hungry, it was almost like being on tour! LOL Mike had gotten some Canadian band to open the gig, but I totally missed them because I got there late. Funny listening to them talk though. :-) IDFI were just starting as I got there, and they ripped through a blazing set of Punk tuneage, and they just get better and better every time I see them, and closing with that Fang cover is always a great way to end a set. It's criminal how underrated that band is here in town. Seriously. We played next and despite the obvious shortcomings that go with playing outside, like not being able to hear yourself or anybody else playing, I think we did pretty good. Tom had his head stuck into his speaker cab, and it didn't help his playing one iota! LOL Some really mellow, quiet band played mop up after us, providing a soundtrack to everyone who was saying goodbye, breaking down their gear and packing stuff up and heading Home. Thanx to everyone for coming out. It was fun, and a cool event to be a part of. Thanx to the Juggalette chix for making things interesting afterwords. :-) On Sun., love 'em or hate 'em, the mighty and powerful Black Flag played @ the Hard Rock Live, and the mere mention of their name and them playing seemed to set off a nuclear hot discussions among all the scenesters here in town. All the Old Punks chimed in with their resentment and hatred about how it's not really Black Flag, the young punks chimed in with their adoration of Rollins and nothing else, and people like me were willing to give the band the benefit of the doubt and see what Black Flag was all about nowadays. I didn't make it to the gig, despite the amazing efforts from Naomi and the Management and Promoters there, but reading all the vitriol filled comments and poisonous barbs about what went down was a treat. IMO, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I liked it. It was certainly better than the Ron Reyes fiasco that went down last year as Black Flag, that's for sure. Yeah, Mike V. is a Rollins worshiping devotee, and that theremin thing that Ginn does is annoying at it's worst, but whoever the rhythm section was this time around really nailed the material, and even gave some of the songs a much needed injection of energy and intensity. Look, I saw Black Flag a few times towards the end there, and they were a slow, shambling husk of the musical monster they used to be. I loved how like, how everyone on Facebook was bitching about them 'jamming' so much... did any of you see later year Black Flag, either in person or on YouTube? LOL They would play extended jam versions of all their songs, and there was nothing more insufferable than sitting through a 15 minute version of Beat My Head Against The Wall... ha ha ha And those comments about how it's not the real band, because there's only 1 original member, well, I got news for all of you Sheep going to Punk Rock Posing this year - lots of the bands you're all so cuckoo about only have 1 original member in them, but it's OK for them, right? Because they're playing PRP, and all the 'Cool' people like you go to PRP, right? The Sterns are just the Saviors of the Punk scene, and without them and their yearly fleecing your little insignificant Life wouldn't be complete, would it? I mean, how will people know how PFR you really are unless you check in on Facebook that you're there or post photos on Instagram of some band you love playing on a stage from hundreds of yards away from you? Oh, and let's not forget the crappy cell phone video footage with the blown out sound! hahahaha Whatever. Climbing off my soap box. Rant over. In closing, here's a few videos of Black Flag playing last Sun., including a video of Zack doing a stage dive and fucking up some dude's camera. Of course he got kicked out for doing so, and if this keeps up, he won't be able to go anywhere in this town to see a gig! LOL |
