I haven't been in a recording studio that wasn't Camel Hump (RIP) in a long time, especially while out of town. Reminds me of when bands would do on the fly recording sessions back in the days, like good Punk Rockers should. 😉 I was at Doll Hut Studios in Anaheim the morning after a Vegascendents gig the night before at Gallagher's Pub in HB to lay down a few demo tracks for one of the upcoming Headnoise releases we have planned. The songs are called La La La (crowd favorite) and Turn It Up, a very Peni-ish tune I'm pretty hyped about. Can't wait for you all to hear them. After that, while the rest of the Vegascendents were at that ghey Surf City Blitz thing, I went back to the hotel room for some room service and to watch the Dodgers choke to the Red Sox in the World Series. Giving Mohawk Carlos from Lean 13 grief over it was just the icing on the cake and a perfect way to end the night... ha ha ha Go Doyers! Better luck next year!

The Vegascendents - memmer them? You memmer... memmer? 😁 Anyways, that band of merry string twangers and drum beaters will be spreading the Descendents love of ALL things musically in AZ. and CA. this weekend, at the Yucca Tap Room in Tempe on Friday with a bunch of crazy cool cover bands, and at Gallaghers Pub in Huntington Beach on Sat. with the Tiki Bandits, and I expect to see NOBODY I know there because people in general are flakey like pie crust, even when you go out of your way to put them on the guest list... heh heh Looks like it's going to be an interesting one... hope the #fakeskins don't catch me slipping! LOL
I've never had a kid, as far as I know of anyways, 😉so I don't know what that joyful feeling is like to be a parent of something, to be responsible for something. I have been married before, ugh, and while that was a great feeling at the time, it was great like the great you feel when your team wins the championship game in double overtime, nice but fleeting. But to an old guy like me, who's been watching The Simpsons since it first debuted in Dec. 1989 (I used to record it on VHS tapes! LOL), to actually go into a magical place like that, a place that's come to life from a friggin' cartoon series, was just awe inspiring and mind blowing. I ate at Krusty Burger. I saw the Aztec Theater. I had a beer at Moe's Tavern. I saw King Toot's Music Store right next door to Moe's as it should be. I got a Squishee at the Kwik-E-Mart. I grubbed at Lard Lad Donuts! I had more beer at the Duff Brewery!! hahahaha I ate and drank soooo much, and I did it all on badly blistered bloody feet - no regerts! And The Simpsons Ride itself, inside of Krustyland, was just life affirming. Couldn't tell you what it was all about, or what the storyline was, but I had the greatest time ever on it. Sure, everything else in Universal Studios was cool too, The Revenge Of The Mummy ride, the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem ride, the Kung Fu Panda thing, The Walking Dead attraction, but for me,nothing's gonna ever be better than seeing my cartoon dream town come to life, a town where I can walk around and see things and hear things and be overwhelmed and bathed in all things Simpson related. I loved it. A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man. Now I can die happily ever after. ❤ |
