I really don't think I can do it. I really can't. There was just too much fun stuff going on this past weekend for me to even compute what all happened and how fun it was! LOL From running into supposed 'mortal enemies' who just came up to me and were like 'Hey Gilby - what's up?', to making people run away from where I was at and hide from me (seriously, WTF???), the oriental Angel that fell from Heaven right into my lap @ Carl's Jr. (ask Bob about that one), and oh, the people who tip toed around me and acted like I wasn't even there, acted like they didn't even see me, that was the funniest shit of them all. Yeah. There was Music involved this weekend too, with me catching a fantastic set from D.I. @ the Aruba on Sat. night, and also that opening band Kids On Fire were fucking cool too. I think they're from Seattle, check them out. Death By Stereo were pretty sick as well, and I watched their set from the backstage area while breaking my kit down. I saw a few of the Mapes at the Aruba as well, checking out the Maxies, who everybody told me were really good. Coming all that way from Iceland, CA., they better be! ;-) Oh, and that band Trash Monsters, from CA., total ass clowns. They fucking sucked big time. I played 2 gigs this weekend with Guilty By Association, and I think I did OK. At least that's what people told me anyways... heh. I was totally spazzing out about playing the songs right and at the right tempo, but the important people who know the bands songs said we sounded great, so I felt pretty good about it all once things were said and done. Again, don't ask me because I don't know what my status with the band is. Mike told the crowd at the Aruba that I was filling in, so whatever. At both gigs I couldn't hear shit, couldn't see shit, and was totally floundering like a fish out of water trying to play everything correctly. I did the best I could. :-) Somebody from the band Break The Cycle filmed us playing at the Double Clown Sun. night, so check it out and see for yourself what we sounded like, and you tell me - is it good? Oh, and I bowled with the Vegascendents this year too, and we made it to the 2nd round, which is pretty rad for a team's first year. We dragged our sorry asses to the bowling alley at 10 in the morning on Sunday, just to lose to some cool team called the Los Angelaskans, who beat us by like, a zillion pins or so. I was running on absolutely NO sleep and still drunk and stupid. That's my excuse. I can't speak for my Teammates, who went to bed early and were well rested and bowled the worst games of their lives... ha ha ha It was fun and I'm looking forward to not doing it again next year... heh heh Bowling on the other side of us were the Sharp Objects, that band I saw on St. Patrick's Day @ Thee Parkside in San Francisco a few months ago. They had an interesting viewpoint of what went down that night with 'Her' and her drunken, pill'd out 'stupiedity', and after talking to them and hearing them tell me what they saw and heard, I love those guys even more! LOL Yeah, she was there. People saw her. Some of them told me. Some of them didn't. Whatever.
Oh, and you know what else some people told me? Lots of Jokers tried telling me how "awesome" and "epic" the bands were this year, and after watching a few videos from pretty much every band that played this year on YouTube, I have to wonder what some of you out there are smoking, and how can I get some of that, because it's better than what I'm smoking, that's for sure! LOL Gawd, the bands were just terrible this year. Rancid blew, as usual. NOFX is just phoning it in at this point and should just give it up already. They were just sad. Oh, it was convenient of them to announce this past Fri. that they will be playing poolside @ the Hard Rock next month. How many of you Local suckers would of bought tickets to see NOFX @ Punk Rock Bowling if you knew they were playing the Hard Rock next month? Probably the same amount but I remain forever optimistic that it's not so. Oh, let's see... the Adicks, well, you've seen them once you've seen them a zillion times - no biggie. Adolescents? I'll see 'em the next time they play here Locally within the next few months or so and without a crowd of drunken tourists and dooshbags all around me. Punk Rock Bowling really has turned into the Viva Rockabilly weekender. It's the same shit but with different music and costumes. Dwarves played without He Who Cannot Be Named, and the video I saw of them looked pretty boring. Plus Blag is a wife stealing dick, so enough said about that band. Youth Brigade was lame. A drunk Shawn Stern is sad to watch. People were raving about the Dickies but I didn't see it. They were OK but I've seen 'em better. And to those of you bitching about the Angry Samoans, didn't you learn your lesson from the last time they played the Beauty Bar? Guess not, but whatever. Pennywise? ha ha ha ha Yeah right! New singer, old singer, they have always sucked. The Generators? Youth of Today? 7 Seconds? The Belltones? STFU with that noise. Those bands all sucked and you know it. Look, it wasn't like there wasn't some cool bands that played some great sets this weekend. Cockney Rejects - AMAZING! They were the only band I was tempted to see this year, but the thought of dealing with the sheep and herd of cattle mentality with the crowd there to see them had me staying as far away as possible. Everyone and their dead Uncle was telling me how incredible Municipal Waste was, but they were just as incredible opening up for Gwar a few months ago @ the Hard Rock cafe. I heard Dr. Know kicked ass, but I knew that when the same reunion with Kyle happened in Ventura last year. Good Riddance I heard were incredible, same with Word Salad, but everyone else? Yawn. And that whole Beard Core thing with the acoustic shows happening is a fucking joke. Acoustic guitars are for Hippies like Jim Croce or John Denver. It's the antithesis of everything Punk is and stands for, and if you like it you're just stupid. And if you went to any of those Beauty Bar shows you're incredibly stupid as well. Matt Skiba is a joke. Tim Berry is a fucking cock smoking fag, and so is Tom Gabel, or Laura Jean Grace, or Crazy Confused Cunt, or whatever it's calling itself these days. I'm sooooooooo sick of hearing about that shit, like it's so revolutionary or original. What? Has no one ever heard of Wayne/Jayne County? Genesis P. Orridge? Yeah, didn't think so. The fact that he announces this in Rolling Stone magazine, which hasn't been relevant since they put Britney Spears on the cover the week that Joe Strummer passed away, shows you that it's all just an attention grab, like a baby that smears shit on itself, looking for someone to acknowledge it. Jan Wenner, the Publisher of Rolling Stone, is a well known Queen, so I hope his panties got all gushy and wet when he heard that Tom Gabel wanted to come out in his magazine. I hope he at least got a blow job from Laura Jean Grace for all this free publicity he gave him, her, it, whatever. It's just stupid. Who fucking cares? Seriously. Male or Female, your music still sucks. And if you think any of that Beard Core shit is relevant than you suck too. This shit has got to go. I fucking hate Hippies, I hate Beards, I hate Acoustic music. Just go die already. Go die. Gawd, I hate that I've wasted this much time and effort on Punk Rock Bowling. I'm gonna go look at some new camera lenses on Amazon to calm myself down. LOL Yeah, Punk Rock Bowling fans, fuck off you Poseurs. Get the fuck out of here. Go back where ya came from! Gee, that sounds so cliched coming from a Native like me. :-) Everything is updated. Yada Yada Yada. I added the Pictures I took of Battle Born @ the Bunkhouse at their CD release party, and you can click here to check those out if you wish. Here's hoping I can get some rest this week, because I could definitely use it. I still never found a masseuse...

wow! really??? who the fuck are you to say anything about any of these bands? you are probably a lonely little fuck who sits in his room playing star wars video games all day in his mothers basement. nobody cares about your comments and im sure i speak for everyone. The fact that you even spent time to talk shit about every band that played is mind blowing. Everyone is different in this world and we all have different tastes of music, clothes and sexual preference, that is the beauty of life! we can all be different and be who we want to be.....if everyone in this world were like you then there would be no point in being in this world... Its people like you that cause hate and war....again keep your closed minded comments to yourself...

I was there from Day One, 14 years ago when they first started PRB - were you? Didn't think so. And I was also there this year as well, but no where near the cattle pen where they put the suckers who paid for this farce. My point was exactly that - who cares if you're a Dyke, a Fag, a Communist or a Republican - if your Music sucks, your Music sucks. Now I gotta get off my Grandma's computer, because she wants to log in to her Golden Girls chat room...

If sexual orientation means nothing to you, then why are you ranting about it? If it's Laura Jane Grace's music that you dislike so much, then maybe talk about the music. You said it yourself: "My point was exactly that - who cares if you're a Dyke, a Fag, a Communist or a Republican - if your Music sucks, your Music sucks."
And I LOVE Grammar Nazi's! :-) Is Nazi's a proper Noun, or is it more of an Adjective? Please enlighten me - I'd LOVE to hear all about it...

This was my first time at PRB and I got to say I though Nofx was awful! The Adicts stole the whole show. Municipal Waste was rad but none of the bands were good enough to deal with the crowd. Beers getting thrown people vomiting fighting I bated almost everyone of you. All go back when the Clash come with Joe Strummer. I don't get to see most these bands were I live so it was a treat to see Agent Orange, The Dickies, and English Beat. But this guy reminds me of a Hipster been there done that seen better. That attitude also is just moronic being said I fucking hate Vegas and drunk punk rockers.
Reply
Yeah, if you haven't seen any of those bands before, I guess I can see the appeal of all those crappy bands playing in one place at one time, but I guess we're spoiled here in Vegas because those bands play here all the time - usually in Clubs or small Venues where you can really get into it and interact with the Bands, as opposed to standing around in a parking lot while the band plays on a stage far away you can't get close to. Fuck that. That's not Punk. That's fucking Cock Rock bullshit.

Hmmmm, I'm pretty sure that everyone is entitled to their own opinions. If you don't like Gilby's opinions, stay off of his site! I didn't go to PRB this year because I was not enthralled with the lineup and have heard similar stories to what Gilby is referring to, so it's not just him.

I agree with you on one thing here.... Things really have changed in 14 years of prb. But seriously, doesnt EVERYTHING change in that span of time? Its the one time of year we ditch our mundane real lives (dont get me wrong, motherhood is awesome - but ...), hang out with friends that I either met at prb in years past or friends that Ive known forever and never make the time to see and listen to the music of my youth. The music that sucks is just background noise to this amazing backyard type party going on around me. Nothing in LIFE should suck so bad that you take time out of your life to rant on the internet about it. Umless your whole life just pretty much sucks? If you would lighten up a bit, I think, maybe, you might be able to have a little fun at prb too. Maybe. Let go of your "I have to have a negative opinion because things arent exactly the same, musics changed, people have changed, the scene has changed ..." Seriously kid, it was a good time. Watching stuff on youtube is far from living it. Maybe youre not aware since you seem to at your grandmas computer a lot.
Reply
I would hope that everything changes over time - if it didn't, we would still be listening to Fleetwood Mac and watching Laverne & Shirley! :-) My Life isn't mundane, I go to gigs all the time and see my Friends like every single day. I didn't take any amount of real time posting that rant. Just something I rambled on about while sipping my morning coffee and pulling hits from the bong. My Life is pretty damn great actually. I'm not one to take anything too seriously, I'm definitely not PC, I'm forever Optimistic about everything, and I love my Grandma's computer! It smells like cookies... heh

ha ha ha But nothing I say is valid! Johnny Rotten is in a grave? Was He buried alive?? Quick, someone help him out please! I was hoping to see P.I.L. at Rebellion in August. ;) Not my top priority of bands to see there, but it will be cool to meet him. Imagine the stories that bloke could tell. I have fun at PRB every year, Last year I was a little bummed out that they put Citizen Fish on so early in the day when hardly anybody was there yet. I know they're not Subhumans, but it's Dick fucking Lucas. They came all the way from England! What an insult. This year I had an okay time. Missed the Dickies 'cause the line was so fucking long. Even though I didn't need a ticket, by the time would have got in, their set would have been almost over. Never heard of La Plebe, but got to see them and glad I did. They were great. Saw prb & non-prb shows- (Adolescents, Youth Brigade, Riverboat Gamblers, Real McKenzies, La Plebe, Manic Hispanic, Sic Waiting, Guilty By Association, D.I. & GBH) and I enjoyed them all. I do think PRB is too high priced...not just the fest shows, but the bowling as well, especially for "punk". Overall, I had fun and will probably go back next year, if I can afford it.
Reply
Great point - PRB is waaaaaayyyy over-priced, and no one seems to care about it. They just pay their ticket fees and queue up like Sheep and stand around and post updates on Facebook, trying to look more Punk than everybody else in the place. And the Bowling aspect of it is a joke! Bands have ringers bowling for them, and everyone turns a blind eye to it all. Everyone wants to win at any cost. The whole bowling thing has a very Jock like mentality about it, and that's not very Punk now, is it? All I saw at PRB this year was dollar signs over every team in every lane - $500 a pop for the privilege of bowling. 2 sessions a day over 2 days, in 2 different places too, with 58 lanes in both places - you do the math. Grand Prize this year was $5000 - where did all the rest of that money go?

If the Sterns and BYO had kept PRB as an intimate party, you'd be complaining that they were being elitist. Don't you think it might cost them a whole lot of $$ to secure the sites, stages, blocks of hotel rooms, etc? Perhaps that might be where all the money goes? Sure it'd be cheaper for everybody if it was still as small as it was when it first started, but it's not....They've put together a great party year after year and given a lot of people the chance to see bands that maybe they wouldn;t have had the chance to see wherever they live. If you were so anti PRB, why did you bother to devote a pretty big column to it? @ Bobby - I'm not ranting about it, per se, but it's more like I'm commenting on something that's such a non-issue that it's annoying. Everyone was making a big deal about it, like it was the first time they had ever heard about such a thing happening. I would of been more impressed if Tom would of made that decision when he was poor and not a rich rock star. And I thought I did comment on the Music? Against Me! has always sucked, and this Hippy Beard Core shit that Laura Jane Grace is playing sucks too. If I wanna hear a chick rock out on the acoustic guitar, I'll listen to Charo! LOL

Why are people so posses about another persons opinion the only reason people are here is that PRB put this on Facebook so sheep would follow and fight there fight for them. I enjoyed viva in 2000 but know its a shit fest! Like PRB is a money collecting filled with ass clowns! Its a cool sight and I don't agree with it all but its just opinion. All be out tonight checking out local bands like most people fucking should.

Because having an Opinion is apparently not a cool thing to do! LOL It's much easier to just listen to what you're told by PRB and the Stern Bros. and be a part of the Cool Kids Crowd. Unity! As one we stand together! Baaaaaaaaaaa little Sheep... Baaaaaaaaaaa :-)
Reply
@Joe - Punk Rock was never about being Elitist. It was about bonding with like minded people and listening to good music and having fun. The majority of the so-called 'up and coming Punk Rock bands' who played this year didn't deserve to be on the bill, and were only there because their Agents and Managers thought it would help them to sell some merch. I might be the wrong person to ask about the monetary aspect of PRB, because I know what they pay the bands, what they pay the Workers and how much they pay for the back line musical equipment all the bands use to play. I also know that they make major money off of the hotel rooms and the booze being sold as part of an incentive deal. I know alot about what goes on behind the scenes of PRB but whatever. The majority of people who come to PRB are from California, where these bands play at all the time. There's no need to come out here to see these bands - they can stay in Cali and go to the Punk Rock Picnic, Ink & Iron, or even the Hootenanny if they wanna see those bands play. No, the Sheep come out to Vegas to play the part and partake in whatever debaucherous behavior pleases them, acting in a way they wouldn't dare act like if they were back home at the places where they usually see gigs and where people know them. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? Yeah right. It's pathetic and boring, but whatever.

I went and I left. Everyone was trying to be more aggressive than the next. It was like a bro fest. If we were all there for the music the "more punk than you" game drown that all out. Gilbert is right. Anything can start out in it's purist form but like any organize thinking becomes currupt through greed. Punk is a state of mind which is expressed through music. A belief in free will and individuality. If you saw half the people there who looked exactly the same you saw the whole concept was lost. And am I right or wrong in thinking punk is the voice of the working man. At those prices I would rather visit the record store and enjoy the music on a personal level

Well the show it what it is... but you forget one thing 99% of these bands came from nothing and built a punk rock empire, you really cannot be mad at that. I see so many of my friends that play music and are semi successful but they have to work normal jobs to feed their kids. Some of these band that have played, rancid, nofx etc came from nothing, and built an empire... and there is nothing wrong with that.. you have to remember the people that still support these bands are a younger generation. Can you believe Punk in Drublic came out almost 20 years ago? I was 12, I would never listen to it now, but fuck that was a great album back them. I think people are more pissed that you show no respect towards these people, or what they did in the past. You are making assumptions and acting like these people putting this on and playing are nothing. If the ramones, the clash and sex psitols could have made millions off their music and then told authority to fuck off they would have! You can't hate what the sterns are doing, if it wasn't going to be them it would be someone else. …punk or whatever you think is punk will never be 1977 again, not with technology you either love it or leave it. I wonder if kids thought the clash sold out when Rock the Casbah and should I stay or should I go now were major hits. Just remember these people came up from nothing and did what they love, they play punk rock for living, I would kill for that job and so would you, who wouldn't want to live out there dream. You just came out like a hater in the post as a opposed to giving your view. Rumor was iggy pop was supposed to play, would you have went? But guess what his fancy label didn't want him to play. Bummer cause he paved the way
Reply
Yeah, I can be mad at them, but I'm not - more like disappointed. Like all the Rock Stars they used to whine about when they were nothing and they had nothing, bands like Rancid and NOFX have long forgotten where they came from and what they were all about. Yeah, I can believe that Drunk In Public came out 20 years ago, but I still blast that shit whenever the situation calls for it? Am I being closed minded and living in the past? No, not really. I'm just enjoying good music, and NOFX at one time put out good music. If their new releases were any good, I'd blast those too, but at best you get 2, maybe 3 OK songs, and the rest suck. The Ramones, Sex Pistols and yes, even my beloved Clash made MILLIONS off Punk, but that doesn't make it right. The same Rock Star trappings that felled them all in one big swoop is still doing that with newer bands of today like Rancid and NOFX, who apparently didn't learn a damn thing from their Idols and fell for the same shit they did. The Sterns are no different, and I'm not even against them making money, but don't piss on my head and tell me it's raining when it's not. The Sterns would not be doing this if there wasn't money being made, and that's the bottom line. The Sterns say PRB is all about the Scene and Music and whatever, but if that was true, tickets, bowling team entrance fees, and even those $5 bottles of water would be cheaper - LOTS cheaper. The Emperor is wearing new clothes, and I'm one of the few to say that they're not very pretty or cute or Punk.

Punk Rock became a Corporate thing when bands like Blink 182 and Rancid and the Offspring sold out at any given chance possible. Yeah, throw in Search and Destroy, Flipside, Slash and a few others and I'm right there with you.
