I took it as a thing of Honor, but my band mates didn't... LOL
So yeah, a few days ago there was an announcement about the record release party for the Jizz Hat Records Desert Rats With Baseball Bats II compilation, and I couldn't help but notice that the 2 bands I'm officially a member of, The Civilians, and S.F.T., were not on the bill of bands scheduled to play. Every other band was, and even a few bands that weren't on the compilation were playing, but not my bands. Like I said, I thought it was hilarious and took it as a thing of pride... can't say the same for others around me... hahahaha Yeah, me mates got a bit peeved about it, but only because they weren't given the chance to turn the gig down themselves! lol It wasn't like there was a snowballs chance in Hell I was gonna dignify that gathering by playing it, but my friends were upset because they weren't informed of it, and it is kind of a dick move to not contact the band and let them know what was going on, but what do you expect from the 2 forces behind the event, a so-called record label more content to push their Britney Spears cover band than any 'Punk" band on their label, and a Promoter involved with one of the biggest joke bands in the City who's content to put on gigs with shitty bands that nobody wants to see, and he wonders why he can't get more than 20 paid at any gig he does... LOL I was given the chance to pre-order a copy of the limited edition, only 500 pressed in green vinyl copy of the record, a record that I'm on, not once but twice, for the amazeballs price of $14.99, and I didn't even get one because I'm embarrassed to be associated with the mediocre lineup of Local so-called "talent" on that compilation. I think the first compilation pretty much nailed the best of what the Vegas Punk Scene had to offer, per se, and yeah, there was some obvious filler on that CD, but this record, looking at the line up of bands on it, well, this one is pretty much all filler,no killer, the GMO's of Local Punk bands. The backlash has begun, but those involved turn a deaf ear to it. If you listen, you will hear it... it's out there. I'm glad to be a part of it.
Tomorrow night the only place to be is at this gig that's going down @ the Artistic Armory. Not only is it the grand debut of new Local super group New Cold War, a band so good that it's already scheduled to play @ Punk Rock Posing, a prestige that sometimes is only bestowed upon bands that have actually done something, or bands with a track record or a proven draw... hahaha Plus, it's their CD release party as well, so there is no place else to be on this particular evening except at this gig. They're doing something cool too, something about giving out free CD's to kids under 16 that show up, and that's rad. DC Fallout are OK, not my cup of tea but whatever, and the Happy Campers have a new album out, so they should be pretty good, and I don't know a thing about the C.G.'s, except for the fact that they're part of that mess of bands that are going out to Lake Havasu to play under the bridge this weekend, but whatever. I might have to drag my ass to this gig and see if New Cold War lives up to the hype, and you should too. :-)
Everything's updated. Tomorrow night Qui is playing with the Fat Dukes Of Fuck, who are debuting a shitload of new material, guaranteed to make you shit your pants in excitement and fear. Plus they're having that Chicken Shack thing afterwords, so you can get drunk and get fed, all in the same dirty place! On Sunday my band The Civilians are playing the St. Paddy's Day Festival in downtown Hendertucky, and all I can say is that I'm glad I'm not driving! hahaha There's a whiskey drinking contest I plan on owning, and some carnival food that I plan on grubbing! Not to mention all the glorious Guinness I'll be imbibing... <3 I might as well just stumble across the street and check myself into the jail and just get it over with, because the odds of me coming out of Hendertucky on the same day are long. Oh well. I got my Lawyer on speed dial. I'm not worried about it. ;-) Have a great weekend everyone!
